  • why do I feel like this is america today? RON PAUL 2012!

  • In a sense mankind in itself can be obsolete, we need one another to have a feeling of purpose to try and sepereate ourselves from the various animals in the world who's only purpose is to survive and breed. Humans religious or otherwise always desire to have some form of hierarchy over animals, including other humans, the ways we do this vary wether it's helping one another or by demeaning someone else's purpose or make them depend on ones self. So in the end you may ask what is humanity?

  • But what about capitalism? It certainly doesn't care about the rights of man. or God.

  • (cont.) I'm a man of letters and even though I am disappointed in this kind of system, I had to only follow the current trends, because in a capitalist setting, money runs everything. I am not promoting communism here or any other governments. I'm just telling of how this episode in the 60's perfectly figured out how in four to six decades, books and librarians would really be obsolete, and it's no longer fictitious. Books for eBooks, and librarians for IT programmers. I think I'm obsolete.

  • This episode's both still very relevant and very ironic. For one, this promotes democratic principles very American, but it is from the US where capitalism started. Though it is not as blatant and straightforward as communism and socialism, capitalism makes literature and librarians obsolete. Thinking about it, capitalist industries gave us eBooks and the Internet. It renders reading paper books and librarians obsolete.

  • Isn't monotheism every bit as evil and ludicrous as personatity-cult ideologies such as communism and fascism. Believing in and venerating god is as supine and immoral as worshipping a Hitler or a Stalin. This film only advocates one form of idiocy as being superior to a similar one. We don't want totalitarianism - but neither should we tolerate organised religions.

  • @mickigoe Neither should you "tolerate"?

    Well, come kill me then.

  • @joeah100 Not certain what you mean - but I would gain very little from killing you - anyway I'm not sure of your exact address - but rather I wish you long life and good health :)

  • Chancellor reminds me of Bill Maher. Could you just see him biting his nails, counting down the minutes until he crack and says for the love of "God."

  • Twilight Zone and the Outer Limits were so ahead of other tv shows. They truly pushed the envelope with their episodes.

  • I don't fit your formu-LIE. SomewhereONE along the line, there has been a deviation from the norm.

  • Ive watched alot of twilight zones and there is heavy religious overtones in many,i believe very much this is about religion.

  • Rod serling saw humanism, was more than religions or governments could ever help to create. In his story telling he never said 'this is what is,or that is what you should believe." What his stories presented was questioning what we want for a future ,what do we want of ourselves.I grew up on the midnight Twlight Zone ch 5 and although as a kid I didn't always grasp the complete depth of his vision, he always left me reeling in wondrous anticipation.

  • See how the representative of the "State" did a *180 when he had to walk in the shoes of the "obsolete man" Interesting....

  • Why cant you fucking poeple just enjoy an episode of a classic show without getting in a moral debate

  • Communism failed as a totalitarian state because it didn't employ religion. The only way to keep people as sheep is to give them a false reward in death to justify their mindless servitude in life. You want a good example, just sit back and watch what religion does to this country within the next few years. You'll be owned by the state, but it will be a state of smiling pious faces.

  • @starcrafter13terran Communism is itself religious zealotry in the extreme. It is the most murderous, bloody cult in world history. Its ethos is to set itself up as a substitute for Deity, and become the object of worship. Man's life is not his own, but property of the State and its dictator. There is nothing more pious or self-righteous than the modern politically correct socialist.

  • @haypenny You have no idea what Communism is.

  • @haypenny Communism, Fascism all methodological fallout from the trappings of Roman Catholicism and its quintessential perversion, capture and confiscation of Christendom. Mussolini, Castro, Napoleon, Hitler, Chavez, Carl Marx etc.. the most prominent tyrants and advocates of philosophical principles geared towards the enslavement of mankind all have their origins in Catholicism. Being a person of faith should not catalog you into the realm of persons who misused & soiled the word of God.

  • @haypenny I see from your comments that when you say Communism you really mean Stalinism, true Communism (of the kind Marx and Engels wrote about) has no government, no dictator, no state.

  • @ridgetownpimp In other words, it is but Anarchy?

  • @haypenny You're making huge leaps there, Stalinism was not Communism, Communism is not socialism. Allowing a poor man to get antibiotics for free is socialism, does that make you a murderous, self righteous lunatic? there is a whole political spectrum of possibilities, standing one step to the left of centre does not make you the next Stalin.

  • @boing615 You believe that? Nothing is free. If a man needs antibiotics another must pay. Socialism means you are compelled by the State under threat of penalty to pay for another, ultimately just working for the State, and not yourself. Coercion, even for a 'public good', leads always to tyranny, with or without bloodshed. Communism is tyranny by force. Socialism is tyranny by vote. One is murder, the other suicide. It's not the altruistic utopia you think. It is a lie.

  • @HayPennie Yes, free to the end user, not free to society. Also you are saying that legal penalties equal tyrrany? So the government saying that you will go to jail if you rape someone is tyrrany?

The notion of a society that protects those who can't protect themselves is called civilisation, whether that is offering financial support to the poor or legal protection to the powerless, it is the compassionate way to live and it is right.

  • @boing615 That's one hell of a straw man. An idiotic one too. In fact, your entire argument is fallacious. I never suggested that laws protecting citizens be eliminated. You know very well that I'm talking about gov't involvement where it has no place. State over reaching its duties to become the sole arbiter of what is best for all according to its own standards. History shows over growth of the State brings ruin - Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Ahmadinejad, etc. This is what the video illustrates.

  • @HayPennie "Socialism means you are compelled by the State under threat of penalty to pay for another........ Coercion, even for a 'public good', leads always to tyranny,"

No straw man there, you are clearly saying that being forced by law to pay taxes is coercion and coercion leads to tyranny If you explained your point badly that's fair enough, explain what you were saying better and I'll discuss that but I wasn't exaggerating, I was responding to a clear point.

  • @boing615 Rape. You used rape of all things as your example. Hyperbole then? Yes you were exaggerating. Give me a break.

  • @HayPennie Hyperbole? you were comparing having to pay taxes to the tyrrany of Stalin for gods sake!

  • @HayPennie "History shows over growth of the State brings ruin - Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Ahmadinejad"

You are confusing large governments with dictators, the problems of the Nazi party were not it's size but the scope of it's influence and the absence of any democratic process to remove them. I agree that the scope of a governments influence should have sensible limits but I completely disagree with this blind american fear that any kind of left wing politics will lead you to Stalanist russia.

  • @boing615 You know I'm speaking of regimes. But you think semantics = debate apparently. And that so-called "blind american fear that any kind of left wing politics will lead you to Stalinist Russia" projection is also a false argument. I never said 'any kind of left wing politics'. We're talking about intrusive laws that can lead to more intrusive laws, implemented by ever more power hungry Statists. If you agree that gov't should have limits then you should approve of this video's message.

  • @HayPennie Governments should have sensible limits on their power, just as people should have sensible limits on their freedoms. The important word is 'sensible'.

You are not critisising a government for the scope of it's influence you are attacking it for the direction of it's influence. Free healthcare is attacked because it is left wing, even though it's not intrusive. The Patriot Act was defended by The Right even though it's massivley intrusive. Left wing politics are nothing to fear.

  • @boing615 The only limit on freedom is the limit not to interefer in another person's freedom. And free healthcare is intrusive because healthcare can only be provided by the work of another person, and to declare it a right or that it should be free is to declare that the provider has to give it to anyone who demands it, with nothing given in return and no right to deny it to anyone.

  • @sonrouge Copyright infringement, vandalism, drink driving, slander, tax laws, food standards, none of them are about limiting the freedom of others, they are about creating a fair society and decent standard of living. You call healthcare intrusive, but giving a poor man antibiotics is not intruding on your freedom. The providers of healthcare are paid a salary, they are rewarded for their work like everyone else.

  • @boing615 Giving a man antibiotics isn't what I'm referring to; forcing someone to provide them to him against their will is. And the men who were drafted to fight in a certain war they didn't voluntarily choose to participate in were paid as well; did that make the draft any less immoral?

  • @sonrouge lol don't be stupid. seriously. No one is forced to provide healthcare, if they don't like providing it, they can walk out of their job.

Or do you mean freedom to pick and choose who it is given to? Giving people the 'right' to accept or deny providing healthcare to people based on purely asthetic choices such as skin colour allows their prejudice to come forth. Everyone follows the Law, should people be given a right to not adhere if they so wish?

  • @sonrouge I'm surprised you don't balk at the Government in charge of the libraries. Surely, they're in charge of the only real free service that provides reading materials, and can be tampered with to only provide certain materials available? Surely using the internet at there could be a form of control by the Government, as they would be able to monitor your emails/web time much more easily? Surely books can be tampered with themselves, to promote an agenda that only strengthens the state?

  • @kdreamland I support the separation of everything and government.

  • @boing615 Americans are paranoid. They see any form of Government involvement as a form of 'control' a form of facism. And yet they still accept the Emergency services as a form of protection. They still contact the police when a crime has been committed against them, even though they clearly fall under Government Control. It dates back to the American Revolution, and possibly the civil war. It's really interesting to see how American history influences the public opinion of Governemtn today.

  • @HayPennie Ah, so you don't want true liberty where laws protecting citizens are concerned. You still want restricitions based upon criminal activities. You want to pick and choose which laws you want to follow, and which laws infrigne upon your rights. Having the Government dispense medical care, to you is not an area they are needed in, therefore they should stay out. You shouldn't pay taxes towards welfare, right? This is what you believe, yet you still want the states protection. Hypocrisy

  • @kdreamland You clearly have no clue what I believe - but apparently you believe that you can read minds. Let's see...anarchy + zero taxation = "what I believe" - am I close? Your interpretation of conservatism is laugh out loud silly.

  • @HayPennie That's basically what you want. To you Liberty means complete freedom on how to run your business, charging what you want, hiring and firing whomever you want, for nearly any reason, that while not may be totally insane, is immoral and derogotory to the advancement of America.

  • @kdreamland No, totalitarianism is immoral, and is the cause of all decline & mischief. Which totalitarian regime was a corporation? None. They're all governments. No blood thirsty tyrant was a CEO. Corporations don't have their own police force, nor can they send my son to jail or war. Bill Gates is not a threat, Ahmadinejad is. You, my dear, are one brainwashed kid. In all seriousness, if you ever have a moment of clarity, just pm me and I'll gladly recommend some books.

  • @kdreamland Lenin would be proud of you, comrade! Hail to the State!

    Putz.

  • @haypenny "most murderous bloody cult" - nope, that were the Nazis. Unlike communism THEIR worldview included countries with a population that has no other use than to be used as slaves in the future and countries/populations they PLANNED to exterminate completely from the get go.

Communism (as a "philosophy or whatever you may call it) never did that. Sure - Stalin still was a mass murderer, but not *because* he was communist.

  • @haypenny Sigh... Communist != Socialist

    Get your definitions straight, 'merican.

  • @starcrafter13terran. What country are you referring to? America? If that is true, it shall never come to pass. You see, Americans for the most part believe in God, but are not religious (some are, others are atheist) and only a small percentage attend church regularly. Do the research and you'll see that i am right. And every year that number diminishes.

And your comment about religion keeping people obedient like sheep-- is greatly reduce by higher education and the increase of wealth.

  • @starcrafter13terran ..... You don't understand, do you? "the fool said in its heart, there is no God". You don't get it huh? Can't you see the evidence? Idiologies (like communism) who are atheist, do not believe in God; hence, do not get the blessing of God. Simple... NO scientific theory, or political / sociological perspectives to make sense of it..

  • why was this edited????

  • @Solidstryker Because YT only allows each video to be 10 minutes long.

  • Sorry but in this day and age smoking is now obsolete according the STATE/INSURANCE COMPANIES 7:18

  • It is much easier for the STATE to destroy you but let you live the way the main stream media and government do these days when they collaborate. They destroy people with killer words like racist and homophobia.Watch what happens when hate and speech crime laws are enacted. Those laws will eventually backfire on minority members of the STATE.

  • Comment removed

  • also about this whole "obsolete" them unfairly unjustly directed at the christian librarien,i could also rants for ours on end about how judges and the goverment faschism is aslo obsolete

  • orgonite can cure it

  • people should not fear the state but rather the state fear the people

  • 7:53 Dishevelled hair!

  • LET ME THE FUCK OUT YOU FUCKIN LIBRARIAN IN THE NAME OF GOD would be a funnier thing to say

  • @TheDailyTimmy I really don't think so. I think Sterling's version is the best.

  • Why doesn't he just kick the door down? I mean if he has a half an hour, it would be plenty of time to destroy the door. It doesn't look too particularly sturdy.

  • This is not explicitly about God or religion, it's about freedom vs. tyranny; Freedom to practice any religion or no religion is one of the corner stones of a free society. Forced secularism or forced theism are the marks of an oppressed society. If the prisoner in the show had been an atheist and the jailer had been a religious zealot, the result would still be tyranny. When this show was made it just so happens that secular regimes that had been the most recent problem. [Germany, Russia]

  • @haypenny Yes, but the most fascist regimes in history have been the ones who have transformed the State into a God. What is hinted at here is happening slowly but surely in the US. There are atheist and communist forces busily at work to remove God from the state, from the schools, and from the very fabric of American social thought. They've succeeded in the first two, and they're hard at work on the third.

  • @LatinSexyD ...In order to transform the US into the next communist power, completely devoid of any spirituality whatsoever.

  • @LatinSexyD Absolutely. If you're interested, check out Yuri Bezmenov videos here on you tube. He was a former agent of the KGB who defected to the US - he lays it all out how a nation and its culture is subverted and subdued. It's frighteningly prophetic. Once you've heard the truth, you're eyes are forever opened. It'll give you great insight into the leftist mind and motives.

  • @LatinSexyD On the contrary communists love religion. Just not when it is taking power. It distracts from the ideals and the message. After the new guard is in religion calms the people and tells them everything is great and even if it isn't if you work hard in this life you will be rewarded in death. I guess you could say the same of almost any political power.

  • for a long time religeon WAS "{political"power"ie cathoLIK CHURCH!11also about your religoen speech, great description for new AGE!THE RELIGEON OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER/GOVERMENT,and thier PUPPET<the UNITED NATIONS!with thier dsamesd ELF towers

  • @haypenny incorrect! it does not just happen to be a secular regime. it is only a secular regime that can be a COMPLETE tyranny because it recognizes no higher power thsn itself. Even a theocratic, authoritarian regime like that in Iran can never be a total tyranny becasue it must avow a law higher than itself.

  • @stinkymouser You did not read my post correctly. Try again. When this episode was made, we'd just recovered from Hitler and Stalin - which were secular tyrannies. All power to the State, and only the State. Fascism and Communism.

  • @stinkymouser Wrong Stinkymouser, not if the authority above them does not exist and is simply an illusion created to allow those in power to rise above their earthly authority. They don't worship any divine authority, they are liars. Muslims are murderers.

  • The rights of man come....from man.

  • and god.

  • Im sorry but no, god has nothing to do with because any man makes his laws, and when a man thinks of his god he is just projecting his own persona and thoughts in that god.Thats why we still have priests who molest children, terrorists who execute in the name of god...

  • You believe in one messed up god then.

and yeah listen to what haypenny has to say. The only reason i corrected you is because it what is said in the video.

  • Well first of all i dont believe in a god and haypenny is right. But i just wanted to say that people make the laws(see sumerian code or the laws of Hamurabi). And what i say doesnt conflict the video only the last part witch was added.People make the laws and sometimes the laws are a total failure like in this particular form of state in the show.

  • He´s a goast

  • why don't they make tv like this anymore?

  • They do, and its called Fox News

  • wait, you mean the ones who support state torture and preemptive war?

  • Yay

  • Oh, just making sure that you are a troll.

  • Thanks, haypenny! One of my favorite, if not most favorite episodes!

  • P.S.- Absolutely perfect and beautiful way to end this episode: with that quote from JFK. Bravo!

  • It's not perfect, but thank you haypenny. Neat editing work.

  • Reminds me of the scene when Robespierre visited Desmoullins before he took his head. Great video reclamation there Hay.

  • Yes! The tyrant democrat zealot vs. the moderate writer. Both ending at the guillotine. I never really studied the French Revolution in depth - but, is that what you mean?

  • Thanks for posting this haypenny.....

  • Tried to upload a better quality with synced audio - but it failed miserably. It's perfect, until YouTube does stuff to it. Oh well, stuck with this one I guess. :)

  • Thanks hon. I think I'm gonna delete this one to upload one with better synced audio. YouTube sucks sometimes! Please come back and rate the new one if u don't mind... :)

  • if you do let me know

  • A bit out of sync. Apologies. Still understandable.
