@bluedooke Oh God, I wish I was wrong but I'm not. Please prove to me that I'm wrong. Prove to me that gay men's bathhouses don't exist. Prove to me that male to male sex isn't dangerous!
@TheChosenKid Not according to the Center for Disease Control. Gay men are 44 times more likely to be infected with HIV than straights, this is a fact. Why is it against the law in many nations for gay men to donate blood???
Sodomy is a term used in the law to describe the act of "unnatural" sex, which depending on jurisdiction can be one or more of oral sex, anal sex or bestiality.
Sodomy refers to sexual actions, and everybody is entitled to have an opinion about that, but it has nothing to do with love. Let people love whoever they want, respect it and if you do want to refer to the Bible or Koran then read what it means, not what is written! Happiness is relative and different for everyone..Just enjoy life!
In a world where entire families die by natural phenomena, like earthquakes, and floods.there are still people who think love isn´t such a natural thing. Whether it´s love between men and women or same-sex,love is a feeling you can´t dodge, and you certainly can´t control it. A feeling is real and so is love. People who still think love between same sexes isn´t healthy or isn´t natural, are usually people who are not open-minded/tunnelvision.
@danmole78 The risks of catching STDs and HIV are the same, whether or not it is between two women, two men or a woman and a men. There are always risks when having sex. Ill also add thats its people like you that believe homosexuality is wrong that is why so many places are full of hatred towards anyone different from themselves. You should also know that being gay/bi is not a choice, you are born gay/bi.
Why do people think if they don't understand something they are entitled to write it off as wrong? Because they were raised thinking they deserve the privilege of judging other people. Those people thinking they should define what is normal or good for all others are mistaken. Educate yourself.
There is simply no comparison between healthy, natural heterosexual sex & homosexual sodomy. From the moment one man sodomizes another he is destroying the cells in the other mans anal cavity. Furthermore, it is so unhealthy that during the act, one man can actually give the other man a prolapsed rectum. Dont the overwhelming AIDS statistics speak to you liberals?
@phantomsluva I was referring to that: "Furthermore, it is so unhealthy that during the act, one man can actually give the other man a prolapsed rectum.". Sex is good, but you can get VD, STD, HIV. Sex could cause vaginal damage and could be dangerous if you have heart failure or asthma etc... So in my opinion: sex is NOT TOTALLY healthy.
It is not compassionate to let people do what they want when it is harming them. A womans uterus knows her own husbands sperm! It is a beautiful & natural act. It is healthy & natural. Liberalism is based on reason. Why would you want 2 people to engage in unhealthy acts, & want children to grow up in a less healthy environment than what nature intended?
You cant argue something is a right if it is not good for the body.Penetration of the anus causes tearing & bleeding of the soft tissues & can damage the sphincter muscles, causing incontinence and anal prolapse. There is also a high concentration of disease causing organisms in the anus and the introduction of pathogens during the sex act itself, exposing the participants to a spectrum of contagious diseases. The fact it is unhealthy is demonized as bigotry by liberals bc they know they're wrong.
As offended as I am by the so-called "honest homophobe," I think he was trying to start a dialogue. He doesn't seem like the sharpest tool in the shed, by the woman's reaction discourages any sort of dialogue from happening. Sometimes, it's better to have honest straight-talk than politically correct discomfort.
lector0003--- Where is the right setting? Given by the reaction of the man who boasted about trying gay sex, this seems like a meeting of people who are familiar with each other. Making the gay child-rearing issue a non-issue won't ease homophobic tensions. Yes, responsible adults should have the right to raise their own children without having their relationship challenged. But lack of knowledge about what it means to be gay encourages homophobia. Honest conversations can dispell myths.
What I mean, is that it was party and a casual one at that. There are a bunch of gays and lesbians there and tbh I wouldn't even bring it up ...
Anyway, the discussion has been done to death and revealed how much of bigotted fool the fat guy was. I don't get what else anyone was supposed, in what was clearly an awkward situation.
lector0003- The discussion, apparently, still needs to be done. In CA, Prop 8 passed despite the crowds of "enlightened" people. Turns out, many people didn't know why they should vote 'no'. They kept quiet among the gays they knew, even pretending to support them just to prevent awkward situations. A few awkward situations might clarify a lot of confusion. That way, instead of people talking past each other or avoiding the subject all-together, we have a dialogue going on.
that man wasn't trying to start a dialogue, he was trying to attack her. you don't start a constructuve dialogue on the subject by telling a stranger, "i'm sure your parents would rather you not be gay" -- that is however the way to piss someone whose homophobic father just died off -- which is exactly why bette responded that way.
divineaglaia- Constructive dialogues don't always start in politically correct or comfortable ways. Giving someone attitude may be satisfying in the short run, but it is not productive. Gays and enlightened gay-rights supporters aren't the only people who vote, and many heterosexuals act in homophobic ways because they simply don't know any better. Bette had the chance to provide an alternate way of thinking about gay rights, not just to that one "honest homophobe," but to her other party guests
roxusan -- Constructive dialogue doesn't always start in comfortable ways, but you're definitely abating your chances of having one when you offend someone. The onus isn't on every gay and enlightened gay rights supporter to start a dialogue with every uninformed heterosexual, regardless of the insulting insinuations hurled their way. It's not about whether that man knows about gay rights, but whether Bette's reaction was warranted given the insolent way he approached her.
divineaglaia- A hostile reaction may be understandable, but it's never warranted. Even if it's given under a time of extreme stress, that doesn't make hostility acceptable. Children are taught not to be hostile and to work out their problems. Bette is a mother. She should know a few things about the harm hostility can do, and set an example. The man seemed hostile, but that's no reason to be hostile in return. Also, if you believe in something, you should be able to explain it and defend it.
roxusan -- I believe Bette's reaction is completely justified. You say that type of reaction is never warranted, but if you called me a n***** (I'm black), would you really expect me to start a dialogue with you about the perils of racism, or do you think I would be justified in feeling offended and calling you...let's say... "an honest racist" in return. I actually applaud Bette, because she reacted rather mildly considering his combative approach and her father's recent death.
divineaglaia- No one here has called you the N word, and no one has called her a dyke. I'm an Israeli-Amercan Jew, and I've been called plenty of things. But that doesn't give any of us the right to lash out. That person did not address her with a slur; he simply asked a provocative question. Her lewd and hostile answer, while understandable, is not helpful, insightful, or informative. These kinds of answers don't change minds. I pity Bette for her situatuion, but I don't applaud her weak reply.
did I say anyone called me the n word? u may understand my remark better if you read the comment more closely, like u may hear just how insightful bette's answer really is if you actually listen to it entirely. no one's saying bette answered the question with stoic perfection, as you demand, but that given her history and his hostility her defensive reaction was justified. plus, first you said the guy was "hostile", now u say he "simply asked a provocative question." which is it?
divineaglaia- You said "but if you called me a n*****" This refers to me, and I have read each of your posts, noting that very few of them answer mine. I listened to Bette's answer in this scene, and it is angry and vindictive, not insightful. I did not say anything about stoic perfection. Perhaps you should reread my comments. Like violence, hostility is not justified or warranted, even when it is understandable. And, a provocative question can be hostile, the two are not mutually exclusive.
u said he "simply" asked a provocative question, which has a different connotation than "he asked a provocative question with hostility." and there's an "if" in my n-word question, meaning i didn't say u did, but presented a conditional statement. is English your first language? and Bette's not being "violent," she's justifiably defensive. u may get some insight if you listen to her talk about comfort vs. happiness. or were u too concerned w/judging her emotional response to grasp the concept?
divineaglaia- I know the difference between something justified and something sympathetic, as well as the fact that "you" isn't spelled "u." Your prejudice about my "first language" is not amusing, but your grammar is. Saying "if you did" assumes I might do something, or am capable of doing it. Yet, what if I were African American? You probably did not take that into account. You also did not address my point that one cannot be "justifiably defensive" in response to a provocative question.
roxusan -- I must say I'm disappointed. I'd believed you would respond to my "simply asking a provocative question" about your English with the same welcoming affectation and unaffected wisdom that you so decidedly demand of Bette. But your refusal to answer the question and mocking criticism of my shorthand doesn't lend to a "constructive dialogue" on the matter. I hope you're holding yourself to the same standard that you hold Bette, or could you be graciously proving my point?
divineaglaia- I am not a hypocrite. I answered your question by pointing out examples that show how my English is better than yours. I don't know what else you were expecting. I did not have an Israeli friend mock you (like Bette's gay friend), or call you a bigot. Yet; why did you ask a question you already had the answer to? If I didn't speak English fluently or understand it, I wouldn't be debating you for several days on end. My answer is not hypocritical, and you have yet to show how it is.
roxusan- I'm happy you've decided to finally live up to your own standard, in part, and engage in a constructive dialogue on my question on your English, though you still lack that unaffected wisdom you demand of Bette. I asked because I thought it was common knowledge that conditional clauses can be used for hypotheticals not likely to happen. You didn't understand this, which either meant English is not your first language or you were being intentionally dense to conjure up a red herring.
I never demanded unaffected wisdom; I criticized Bette for lashing out. I did not lash out at you, I pointed out that you were wrong. Lashing out is never a warranted/ justified way to answer a provocative question. Also, hypothetical clauses imply something is capable of happening, not that something won't happen. They simulate a potential situation; by using this clause, you assume the situation you are referring to can or might happen. That's why "you" is rarely used in hypothetical examples.
roxusan- Here's a little English lesson on conditional clauses for you. It's called an "unreal or hypothetical condition," used when "when you want to discuss an unlikely situation." Here's little English lesson on the use of you: it can be used for the person you're addressing or "any person: equivalent in sense to indefinite one, ex: you can never be sure!" Get a dictionary. Read it. Get a Strunk and White. Study it. Get the L Word on DVD. Watch it....or just use Google.
roxusan-you have yet to address two of my points. write verbatim what "provocative question" brad asked. and what did you think about bette's comfort v. happiness comment. did you find it insightful?
and also, i'm realizing now why you may hold so many of the beliefs you do. do you even watch the show? that is not bette's gay friend, that is Kit's (Pam Grier's) boyfriend and Bette only recently met him. He's just helping Bette deflect an uncomfortable situation since she's the only out and adhering homosexual present at the time of the exchange, and gay men are being attacked despite the fact that no gay men are there to defend themselves.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
divineaglaia- I am judging this scene, not the entire show. It doesn't matter how long Bette knew Pam's boyfriend, just that she condones his behavior as acceptable (and by behavior, I mean crudely-bragging-about-gay-sex, not the having-gay-sex-part.) Pushing your sex life in peoples' faces is not an answer to an argument... it's just uncalled for, whatever someone's sexual preference is.
Haha, I have to say I have read through your very entertaining debate here, and it had me hooked (although I doubt that was the purpose). You two bring up some very interesting points, although I must say - divinealgaia, you've won every point. I agree with you completely about the scene and Bette's stance, but well played to both of you. Always refreshing to see that intellectual debates are alive and well!
divineaglaia- Finally, this scene misses out on any big concept for gay rights. Bette was asked a provocative question which deeply hurt her feelings. It's not clear if the asker intended this, but he definitely did cause hurt feelings. Yet the questions he asked are still on peoples' minds (like the blonde.) It's better to inform people and answer questions than it is to further a comfortable atmosphere where questions remained unresolved, and people remain misinformed.
roxusan - No "provocative" question went unanswered, b/c Brad never even asks a question at all. This was simply an opportunity for him to express his narrow-minded views about homosexuality to a homosexual. You also never addressed Bette's steering the exchange more constructively than Brad started it with her comfort v. happiness comment. And, unlike you, I believe people have the right to be angry and express that anger in controlled way, like becoming "justifiably defensive" when offended.
divineaglaia- Brad professed he is open to the prospect of having a gay son. He might not have every politically correct detail in place, yet he is not narrow-minded. He's more open-minded than many Americans. And he did ask a question: What if the child doesn't want gay parents? What if children with gay parents want to live with their sperm donor/surrogate? Those are not homophobic; they are fair questions. Bette's answer: calling him a homophobe, and encouraging a friend's gay sex account.
roxusan- wrong once again. the blonde lady asks a question and Bette answers her in a polite exchange. Brad jumps in, "I'm sure your parents would rather you not be gay." As offensive a remark as if he'd said "I'm sure your parents would rather you be a better Christian, a boy, or white." If he asks a question, quote it verbatim. Brad is narrow-minded because he assumes Bette's parents would rather she not be gay, though he doesn't even know her, never considering her parents could accept her.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
divineaglaia- Bette is narrow-minded assuming the guy is a homophobe. Homophobic behavior does not turn someone into a homophobe any more than an insult turns someone into a bully. He does not know Bette's relationship with her parents, and offered an assumption as a weak example for his point that some kids may not want gay parents, and some parents may not want gay kids. His inferred question was the same as the woman's: What if the child chooses to live with the sperm donor?
Okay it is either, they are okay with it or not, you can't be like 'I am okay with girls and girls is hot but two guys are just not for me'. Honeslty, I would send them both home.
ok, I think that reply was uncalled for since what I gather from your comments is that you're the opposite of a homophobe. If I was Tina, I would have thrown these guys out. They behave like ignorant and dumb frat boys.
I love how they all handled that situation, from Bette being calm, to Tina just sayin 'Bette' when he made the remark about her parents to Angus just bein hilarious. Fuck the homphobes!!
Heh. He played a self-loathing gay serial rapist in an episode of L&O SVU. It was kindof weird in light of this scene (and his role in The L Word in general), but I totally prefer him as the biflexible Kit-lovin' cutie in The L Word.

You should also know that being gay/bi is not a choice, you are born gay/bi.
bandfan1234 1 year ago
Why do people think if they don't understand something they are entitled to write it off as wrong? Because they were raised thinking they deserve the privilege of judging other people. Those people thinking they should define what is normal or good for all others are mistaken. Educate yourself.

There is simply no comparison between healthy, natural heterosexual sex & homosexual sodomy. From the moment one man sodomizes another he is destroying the cells in the other mans anal cavity. Furthermore, it is so unhealthy that during the act, one man can actually give the other man a prolapsed rectum. Dont the overwhelming AIDS statistics speak to you liberals?
danmol78 1 year ago
@danmol78
Since when ANY kind of sex is healthy? And since when homosexual sex isn't natural?

@neonka070889 You really believe that sex isn't healthy?
phantomsluva 1 year ago
@phantomsluva I was referring to that: "Furthermore, it is so unhealthy that during the act, one man can actually give the other man a prolapsed rectum.". Sex is good, but you can get VD, STD, HIV. Sex could cause vaginal damage and could be dangerous if you have heart failure or asthma etc... So in my opinion: sex is NOT TOTALLY healthy.
neonka070889 1 year ago

Sometimes, it's better to have honest straight-talk than politically correct discomfort.
roxusan 2 years ago
it was the wrong setting to have that debate ...
lector0003 2 years ago
lector0003--- Where is the right setting? Given by the reaction of the man who boasted about trying gay sex, this seems like a meeting of people who are familiar with each other. Making the gay child-rearing issue a non-issue won't ease homophobic tensions. Yes, responsible adults should have the right to raise their own children without having their relationship challenged. But lack of knowledge about what it means to be gay encourages homophobia. Honest conversations can dispell myths.
roxusan 2 years ago
What I mean, is that it was party and a casual one at that. There are a bunch of gays and lesbians there and tbh I wouldn't even bring it up ...
Anyway, the discussion has been done to death and revealed how much of bigotted fool the fat guy was. I don't get what else anyone was supposed, in what was clearly an awkward situation.
lector0003 2 years ago
lector0003- The discussion, apparently, still needs to be done. That way, instead of people talking past each other or avoiding the subject all-together, we have a dialogue going on.
roxusan 2 years ago
that man wasn't trying to start a dialogue, he was trying to attack her. you don't start a constructuve dialogue on the subject by telling a stranger, "i'm sure your parents would rather you not be gay" -- that is however the way to piss someone whose homophobic father just died off -- which is exactly why bette responded that way.
divineaglaia 2 years ago
divineaglaia- Constructive dialogues don't always start in politically correct or comfortable ways. Giving someone attitude may be satisfying in the short run, but it is not productive. Gays and enlightened gay-rights supporters aren't the only people who vote, and many heterosexuals act in homophobic ways because they simply don't know any better. Bette had the chance to provide an alternate way of thinking about gay rights, not just to that one "honest homophobe," but to her other party guests
roxusan 2 years ago
roxusan -- Constructive dialogue doesn't always start in comfortable ways, but you're definitely abating your chances of having one when you offend someone. The onus isn't on every gay and enlightened gay rights supporter to start a dialogue with every uninformed heterosexual, regardless of the insulting insinuations hurled their way. It's not about whether that man knows about gay rights, but whether Bette's reaction was warranted given the insolent way he approached her.
divineaglaia 2 years ago
divineaglaia- A hostile reaction may be understandable, but it's never warranted. Also, if you believe in something, you should be able to explain it and defend it.
roxusan 2 years ago
roxusan -- I believe Bette's reaction is completely justified. You say that type of reaction is never warranted, but if you called me a n***** (I'm black), would you really expect me to start a dialogue with you about the perils of racism, or do you think I would be justified in feeling offended and calling you...let's say... "an honest racist" in return. I actually applaud Bette, because she reacted rather mildly considering his combative approach and her father's recent death.
divineaglaia 2 years ago
divineaglaia- No one here has called you the N word, and no one has called her a dyke. I pity Bette for her situatuion, but I don't applaud her weak reply.
roxusan 2 years ago
did I say anyone called me the n word? u may understand my remark better if you read the comment more closely, like u may hear just how insightful bette's answer really is if you actually listen to it entirely. no one's saying bette answered the question with stoic perfection, as you demand, but that given her history and his hostility her defensive reaction was justified. plus, first you said the guy was "hostile", now u say he "simply asked a provocative question." which is it?
divineaglaia 2 years ago
divineaglaia- You said "but if you called me a n*****" This refers to me, and I have read each of your posts, noting that very few of them answer mine. I listened to Bette's answer in this scene, and it is angry and vindictive, not insightful. I did not say anything about stoic perfection. Perhaps you should reread my comments. Like violence, hostility is not justified or warranted, even when it is understandable. And, a provocative question can be hostile, the two are not mutually exclusive.
roxusan 2 years ago
u said he "simply" asked a provocative question, which has a different connotation than "he asked a provocative question with hostility." and there's an "if" in my n-word question, meaning i didn't say u did, but presented a conditional statement. is English your first language? and Bette's not being "violent," she's justifiably defensive. u may get some insight if you listen to her talk about comfort vs. happiness. or were u too concerned w/judging her emotional response to grasp the concept?
divineaglaia 2 years ago
divineaglaia- I know the difference between something justified and something sympathetic, as well as the fact that "you" isn't spelled "u." Your prejudice about my "first language" is not amusing, but your grammar is. Saying "if you did" assumes I might do something, or am capable of doing it. Yet, what if I were African American? You probably did not take that into account. You also did not address my point that one cannot be "justifiably defensive" in response to a provocative question.
roxusan 2 years ago
roxusan -- I must say I'm disappointed. I hope you're holding yourself to the same standard that you hold Bette, or could you be graciously proving my point?
divineaglaia 2 years ago
divineaglaia- I am not a hypocrite. My answer is not hypocritical, and you have yet to show how it is.
roxusan 2 years ago
roxusan- I'm happy you've decided to finally live up to your own standard, in part, and engage in a constructive dialogue on my question on your English, though you still lack that unaffected wisdom you demand of Bette. I asked because I thought it was common knowledge that conditional clauses can be used for hypotheticals not likely to happen. You didn't understand this, which either meant English is not your first language or you were being intentionally dense to conjure up a red herring.
divineaglaia 2 years ago
I never demanded unaffected wisdom; I criticized Bette for lashing out. I did not lash out at you, I pointed out that you were wrong. Lashing out is never a warranted/ justified way to answer a provocative question. Also, hypothetical clauses imply something is capable of happening, not that something won't happen. They simulate a potential situation; by using this clause, you assume the situation you are referring to can or might happen. That's why "you" is rarely used in hypothetical examples.
roxusan 2 years ago
roxusan- Here's a little English lesson on conditional clauses for you. Watch it....or just use Google.
divineaglaia 2 years ago 2
roxusan-you have yet to address two of my points. write verbatim what "provocative question" brad asked. and what did you think about bette's comfort v. happiness comment. did you find it insightful?
divineaglaia 2 years ago
and also, i'm realizing now why you may hold so many of the beliefs you do. do you even watch the show? that is not bette's gay friend, that is Kit's (Pam Grier's) boyfriend and Bette only recently met him. He's just helping Bette deflect an uncomfortable situation since she's the only out and adhering homosexual present at the time of the exchange, and gay men are being attacked despite the fact that no gay men are there to defend themselves.
divineaglaia 2 years ago 2
This comment has received too many negative votes show
divineaglaia- I am judging this scene, not the entire show. It doesn't matter how long Bette knew Pam's boyfriend, just that she condones his behavior as acceptable (and by behavior, I mean crudely-bragging-about-gay-sex, not the having-gay-sex-part.) Pushing your sex life in peoples' faces is not an answer to an argument... it's just uncalled for, whatever someone's sexual preference is.

divineaglaia- Finally, this scene misses out on any big concept for gay rights. Bette was asked a provocative question which deeply hurt her feelings. It's not clear if the asker intended this, but he definitely did cause hurt feelings. Yet the questions he asked are still on peoples' minds (like the blonde.) It's better to inform people and answer questions than it is to further a comfortable atmosphere where questions remained unresolved, and people remain misinformed.
roxusan 2 years ago
roxusan - No "provocative" question went unanswered, b/c Brad never even asks a question at all. This was simply an opportunity for him to express his narrow-minded views about homosexuality to a homosexual. You also never addressed Bette's steering the exchange more constructively than Brad started it with her comfort v. happiness comment. And, unlike you, I believe people have the right to be angry and express that anger in controlled way, like becoming "justifiably defensive" when offended.
divineaglaia 2 years ago
divineaglaia- Brad professed he is open to the prospect of having a gay son. Bette's answer: calling him a homophobe, and encouraging a friend's gay sex account.
roxusan 2 years ago
roxusan- wrong once again. the blonde lady asks a question and Bette answers her in a polite exchange. Brad jumps in, "I'm sure your parents would rather you not be gay." As offensive a remark as if he'd said "I'm sure your parents would rather you be a better Christian, a boy, or white." If he asks a question, quote it verbatim. Brad is narrow-minded because he assumes Bette's parents would rather she not be gay, though he doesn't even know her, never considering her parents could accept her.
divineaglaia 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
divineaglaia- Bette is narrow-minded assuming the guy is a homophobe.
