Hey, awesome sound from that pedal, and you play is exellent!!
Is there any chanse for me to get hold of the circuit scheme for this pedal??
The sound you get from this one one is about what i was hoping for when i build one from Jack Ormans drawing using op.amps & 1 x 12ax7 valve.. It turned out to be best souted for metal, but ive put an extra pot on its input so now it does acdc wuite well, but still it sounds nothing like yours. Thumbs up!
hey hola, yo tmb soy cristiano y soy guitarrista. He estado leyendo mucho sobre pedales desde que comenze a usar analogos. Me gustaria hacerle algunas preguntas porfavor...
Nice build! I dabbled with the MAT.tube running @9V, but darn! I could not fir the world make it do anything -no glow , not a sound, nothin...lol I dunno how you guys do it! :). Sounds sweet, though!
Wrong. The tubes glow, because of the filaments inside the tube that are basically heaters that get the tube to the right working temperature. The filaments usually require 6V or 12V, so stomp box tubes can 'glow' too, even if the supply voltage of the pedal is 9V.
I know some manufacturers used to try that LED gimmick but Blackstar isn't one of them. You don't need HUGE voltages to make a smaller preamp-type tube glow...but you can't do it with a 9V battery. You need at the very least a "Wall-wart" to power everything up. Blackstar amps ARE hybrid amps in that they have some diode clipping designed into the circuit...but I'm not a purist who thinks that's bad. I think it's funny that people insist on an "all tube amp".and then but a Tube Screamer in front
the pedal that i know from blackstar use the trick i know it for sure, the other guitarist from our band has the overdrive from blackstar. and i know for sure. that the light comes from some led.
but i agree with. ass long as the end stage of the amp are tubes
@0cerpintaxt0 Wrong. The filaments in most tubes are meant to run at very low voltages (12v for 12A*7, 6.3v for EL84, for instance). It's the plate voltages that can go way higher, up to 300v in some cases. The tubes have to glow because they wouldn't work otherwise (it's the heat from the filament that makes them work). You probably can't see the glow because cameras tend to compensate for the ambient light.
@antiuser Yea thats right, and if u run heaters on a12ax7 type tube at 9 volt it will be a lot less aggressive overdrive from it. Ive testet my 12ax7 tube driver (J.orman scheme) using both 9 and 12.6 volt to heaters and the rest of circut and its big diff. in sound. Marshal uses 12.6 volt heating the tube in the valvestates. I think i covered back in black using valvestate 8200 on prettu full gain.. Tubes sounds best when pushed really hard is an old saying..
Wow, excellent sounding pedal.. Very clean and crisp. If you do have a schematic, or even just a run down of what you changed from the original schematic of the valvecaster that'd be so awesome. Great playing and great pedal!
What happens when the foot hits eh tubes? Rather dopey design ain't it?

I dig the sound of this pedal. I just recently built a 12AU7 tube pedal too, I love tubes. :D

Great sound & playing!
I don't really like the three different knobs and IKEA Handle (though having a protection for the knobs and tubes is probably a good idea)

haha I just love the handle which looks like you just tore it of one of your wifes kitchen closets

the tubes in ur guitar amp glow. because they work on much much higher voltage. the tubes that are used in stomp boxes are always with low voltage.
some manufactures like blackstar put a yellow led next to the tube so it looks like it glows.
