Ban the R-Word?

The r-word is not even a medical term anymore. The r-word is not used in everyday language to be offensive (usually). I realize that it is a word that many people have adopted into their vocabulary instead of saying stupid or dumb. Have you ever thought of how it affects those with disabilitiies? We are trying to stop the use of this derogatory term to try and be more sensitive to those around us. They didn't chose to have a disability, but we can choose our words.

The special olympics is not trying to change the movies or anyone's right to say what they like. The campaign is encouraging people to be sensitive to the fact that people with disabilities are being hurt by the word. Its not censorship, its not fascism, its just respect. There are other ways to express yourself without putting those with special needs down.
