It also depends on the font style, if you use courier new it looks like there are bullet points, but if you use what is standard on Office 2007 (Calibri) or Times New Roman its not too noticeable.

Well, if you are a 10th grade teacher then surely you would be sure to use capitals for the beginning of sentences and for proper nouns, and use full stops, and also have the ability to spell "triple" correctly.

lol, i watched this video a while back, i ended up submitting a regular paper, then i got it back to do a good copy, this is when i applied the technique i watched, she actually thought i had made changes because it was so much longer. she ended up comparing the two papers i handed in and found they were the same words, font and size but couldnt figure out how i had managed to make one so much longer than the other.

Also, you can not use apostrophes so instead of typing "couldn't" you type "could not" and it will add a little extra wordage into your paper, it may not sound like a good idea but I actually went back on one of my papers and I changed all my abreviated words to non-abreviated and I went from a 489 word count to a 507 word count... And my paper had to be 500 or more words. So yeah...

This turned my 25 page paper into 28. I was expecting more since it turned your friend's paper from 16 to 19. I guess if you use small sentences it works better, since you would have more periods to change. My 25 page paper had 392 replacements. It should have been near 500 if my sentences were as short as yours. Good tip, though.
