The churches were not even mentioned in Harper's hollow apology. WHRE ARE THE OVER 50,00 CHILDREN THAT NEVER MADE IT BACK HOME? I have an uncle that does not remember his residential school horrors. He has blocked it right out of his mind. How does an apology correct that? Accountability on all levels is in order. Justice to the little ones that never made it back home.
I am not as sickened by the fact that it happen as I am sickened by the fact that this part of history is much ignored and most Canadians are not even aware of it. Residential schools were an act of pure genocide and terror yet not many people talk about it these days. How sad!
There is still no equality between natives and non-natives in Canada because of an apartheid Indian Act that relegates “Indians” to a separate and inferior status, and holds most of them in a state of permanent sickness, landlessness and poverty on their own lands.
It breaks my heart that my father and my family had to go to these schools. I can't even imagine being taken away from my parents, let alone being subjected to verbal, physical and sexual abuse. I guess you can say that they succeeded in assimilating me into society. I do not know my culture, i do not know my language. But I have completed high school and post secondary and now work. I pay full taxes. Most people even have trouble identifying that i am an Indian (I am a full blooded indian).
all native people from Alaska to tierra del fuego( Chile ) are one people, don;t let white man divide us, BROTHERS AND SISTERS WAKE UP, LET'S UNITED FOR GOOD.
If kkkanada was truly sorry it would i) remove themselves from territory that is NOT their's ii) stop pretending that they have a "god" given right to squat in the western hemisphere and claim it as theirs. If their "god" recognizes lying scumbags before some1 speaking the truth, White man is truly satan.(austilia, new zealand, etc too)
At 1.14 that looks like the Shubenacadie Indian Residential school.. It was pure hell living there. When we came back home ppl here thoguht we did something wrong to be sent there..I spent my entire life wondering what I did wrong???I was only 8 ..Now they offer us money if we acept their deal to dodge a geonocide charge..This is one of the reasons Canad was denied entry to the security council.

It's also known that an estimated 50,000 children were murdered in these schools.
Thank you for posting. The truth will set all of us free!
