  • Do you know how to make the curry paste from scratch just wondering?

  • thanx for the tutorial, i made my first curry through this video and it was awesome i think i was lacking a lil salt but it was all good everyone was happy :D thumbs up and mad props

  • @saicojin Yay! I'm so glad to read comments such as these. Thanks for watching!

  • You make it look so good !!

  • i love this song

  • can u tell me the measurements for the curry paste?

  • @saphornchan Hi! I'm sorry but I'm not good with measurements, only estimates.

  • yummy! Looks soo good! Man, I can't wait to go home and get me some good food :). What part of Cambodia are you from, by the way?

  • @kcl060 Thanks! My mom is from Battambang and Pa is from Kampong Chhnang. I am originally from Florida.

  • @forg3tm3not770 Oh ok cool. I am temporarily living in Florida now. You must not be in Miami because it seems you have easy access to Asian stuff, lol. I usually bring a ton in my suitcase when I visit VA, lol. Thanks again for the great recipes!!

  • It turned out really well. I'll take a portion to my mom's today (Mother's Day).

    Thanks.

  • Good work!

I've always just used the store curry paste, coconut milk, lemon grass, that leaf thing, potatoes, onions, water, sugar, salt, fish sauce, and chicken.

I never knew you could add this many ingredients. It looks 10x tastier. I already came from the store, so I have to make it the simple way! Next time I'll add the other things... =( I'm so hungry.

  • Enjoy your meal unknownally and thank you for watching.

  • omg that my favoite..making me wants some...

  • Thanks Apsaraqu33n!

  • I like it when you said, "when cooking stinky dishes like this .... i cook it outside". That's hilarious.

  • Hi bong! Yes, I prefer to cook the more "aroma" dishes outside.

  • where do you get all of your ingredients?

  • From an Asian grocery store, farmer's market, and my backyard.

  • sorry, but what's rhizome? I looked it up and that didnt help...

  • It's part of the same family as the ginger and looks similiar to it, but tastes different and much smaller. You can find a photo of it in Wikepedia.

  • when i go to my moms house i eat like 3 bowls of this in one sitting and i have 4 sittings in a day...my mom makes a lot when im in town...she loves me...probably because i live 3 hours away from her and i can barely cook since im a guy...but thanks for posting now i can try to make my favorite mommy dish...wish me luck

  • You're welcome umaduaintme. Good luck!

  • have you ever made this with coconut?

  • wow ignore that comment.. haha mindfart..

  • LOL! It's ok, but yes, coconut cream was the first product I had used.

  • I remember this! This was sooo good! I wanna ask my mom to make it again!

  • Thanks! I like mines with beef more than chicken though.

  • bong whats the red curry paste? Where can i get it? Thanks

  • Hi 2shourt. Honestly, you don't even need the red curry paste. I only put that in there for the red coloring if i don't have big dry chilis to blend in my lemongrass paste. But if you still want it, you can purchase it at the asian grocery stores.

  • i mother make it diff

  • Everybody makes their dishes different. Just this curry alone, I have 5 different ways of making it.

  • yea and they all teast good.. if u know who the person that make it.. i wouldnt even eat other people food.. if i dono them

  • my fav khmer food. luckily i live not to far from long beach. thanks for the awesome videos. more khmer food please.

  • Thanks alien7blood. I'll try.

  • I'm sorry, but I can't really explain it. Wikepedia has a great description on it. Thanks for watching!

  • Can you tell me what is root of rhizome?

  • well you know the curry i use i only the one i bought it off the supermarket only. and sometimes i get the nice rich color but is too spicy for me. i wonder is there any mild curry paste?

  • I'm sorry, but I don't know of any milder one bc I totally agree that the one in the market is too spicy.

  • YUMMMMMMMMMMY awesome.

  • Thanks Generalgutz!

  • look like i need to get a bigger pot.lol

  • I like to use big pots so that when the soup spatters on you, it won't drip anywhere else...:P

  • I like all curry (Indian, Thai, Japanese, etc.) but Khmer curry is my favorite curry!! Thanks so much for this video!!! Is there a certain brand of red curry paste you use?

  • You're welcome makai1410! I'm sorry, but I don't remember which one I used, but it did put Red Curry in the front along with the Masmaran pastes. I only use this paste once in a while and for this video, but most times, I only use my homemade lemongrass paste only. The Red Curry is optional if you wanted your soup a little more spicier and redder.

  • Lemon Curry?

  • I don't understand your question rushnerd.

  • oops i forgot to ask about the curry in the homade sauce..is it a curry powder that i add to all the ingredients..?sorry lol

  • I made a mistake and said that it was curry powder in the video, but I corrected in my list of ingredients description on the right hand side of screen...it's actually turmeric powder.

  • thanks sooo much will make tonight...i'll let you know how it goes...

  • finally i found the curry recipe i've been looking for..it is a bit confusing on the homemade curry recipe..please let me know how you make it...i am cambodian but hubby is hispanic...i really want to make this for him..thanks

  • You're welcome ownsreykhmer27! All you have to do is mince up all ingredients and blend them together in the blender with a little bit of water so that it won't ruin your blender. That's it.

  • do i have to measure anything for the homemade sauce...? i can't wait to cook for my family...love all your recipe videos...thanks for sharing..make me miss home..

  • You're very welcome....it's hard for me to make tutorials or explain measurements when it comes to cooking b/c I learned how to cook by estimating and not by measurements. Therefore, I did not measure anything for the paste. For one medium size pot, you probably need: 2-3 stalks of lemongrass, 4-5 lime leaves, 3-4 garlic cloves, 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder, 1 root of rhizome (or 1 tsp of powder)...

  • cont'd...2-3 big dried habenero chili peppers (depending on how red you want it), and water that fills up halfway of ingredients when loaded into blender.

  • This is awesome my husband khmer and im PR and had no idea how to make khmer food he happy now

  • Thanks PrinzessJulez! I have an aunt that has a PR husband and he loves Khmer food. Hopefully, these tutorials are easy enough for you to follow because I know that the ingredients are somewhat hard to find if you don't know where to search. But believe me, once you have your ingredients, everything is a sure breeze after that...enjoy!

  • I live in lowell mass.. down the street from a khmer super market that has every ingredients possible... i was wondering if you could make a video on how to make Tirk kreoung

  • OMG! U even know how to eat prahok? Wow! You are amazing...hehe! Not everybody has a taste bud for that. I'm not sure how I will be able to make a tutorial for that, but if I can, I will...I was thinking of making prahok ktiss more though. I'll keep tirk kreung in mind.

  • PR, perminent resident?

  • No tomboyzi. PR means Puerto Rican...plus, I think you meant say "Permanent" residence.

  • Making this for my husband! Just married. Tehe! :0)

  • I just got married too! Congratulations bruintran! Tell me how it goes.

  • Awkhun traen na!... bong srey? :0) I will tell you how he likes my cooking!

  • Mein aye thaye paowne srey. Yham oy chgaun...*^_^*

  • yummy..........is that morn sa'vet?..and don't forget the chicken feet...lolz

  • Hi chanmalai. Yes, it's morn svet (though I prefer curry with beef more) and eww...I don't like to eat chicken feet though a lot of Khmer people do.

  • wow it looks good! can you please tell me what we can substitute for the homemade curry paste? i dont know how to make it thats why....thanks!

  • Hi pinkbeauty5! Most Asian stores sells red curry paste that you can substitute, but I must warn you that if you do not like spicy, it's best to make your own homemade paste in which I have the ingredients posted on the right hand side of the screen under "About This Video"

  • Oh my goodness! I'm on an empty stomach and watching your cooking vids didn't help my hunger! lol... everything looks yummy!

  • Thanks sweepee78!

  • It looked like thai food . I love it .Thanks alot.

  • Thanks CDDANIEL911! Yes, Thai food has a lot of similarities to Khmer.

  • yummy....looks goooooood :)

  • Thanks MissstephieTing!

  • Hmmm- this looks sooo yummy! Please tell me how to make the homemade curry and why is it green? lol

  • Thanks bradyyorn! I will email u the ingredients. It's green due to it's ingredients. All curry paste are similiar but some gets it's yellow color from a lot of curry powder or some get it's red color from a lot of dried chilis.

  • Great thanks I can't wait to get it- I wanna make it sometime next wk. :P

  • You're very welcome and tell me how it goes. *^_^*

  • hello..i emailed you to ask for the homemade curry ingredients. But still havent get a reply from you yet. I really want to cook this dish for my khmer bf. pls help..thanks a bunch! =D

  • Oh no! I completely forgot 'bout that email. I was right in the middle of responding to it when I got interrupted here at work. I will send it to you right after this. So sorry drega78!

  • could you pm that ingredient list to me as well, i think my mom just used the pre-made stuff in a can, but i'm interested in your recipe!

  • Hi kevanu...I'm sorry, what do you mean pm? I will give you the ingredients through your YouTube msging area.

  • pm = private message. hehe

  • I am so slow...LOL! I'm like, "it's not nighttime...what is he talking 'bout"? Hehe! Did you received the ingredients in your "pm"?

  • I did, thanks!

  • anyone - i accidently bought coconut milk instead of cream

will it work still?? if not - what soups can i make w/ cco milk?

btw - this soup looks AWESOME!!

    THX

  • Hi there boilingmadatpolitici! Thank you very much for watching my video. It's okay if you use coconut milk, but the cream does give it more of a good taste. If you have time to go get the cream, you can use the milk for desserts instead such as my Banana Pudding Dessert video.

  • omg, thanks a bunch. i was making bland curry until this video. this method is a lot better.

  • You're very welcome savannakhet81!

  • OMG THAT LOOKS SO GOOD. I haven't seen it with onions before. Yum

  • Thanks kevanu! The more onions, the better due to the sweetness...I'm not a vegetable person but I put them in there for the flavoring...the rest of my family loves the vegetables though so it doesn't go to waste...*^_^*

  • yum....can you make me some?

  • Thanks LordLiang!

  • you make it look so easy, as oppose to the way my mom makes it. Thank you so much :)

  • Thanks BorosWA. It's actually easy...the prepping part such as mincing all your curry paste ingredients together is the time consuming part.

  • Is hen, Sach Moan Saawet? (chewy chicken)

  • Yes it is...thanks for watching!

  • Did you know that different methods of cooking the same dish has different outcomes? I saw you stir in the Kapi into the coconut milk and added the seasonings like fish sauce, sugar, and salt after the chicken and thought immediately " Oh NOOOOes, you're doing it wrong!!!!" My mom would have my head if I were to do what you demonstrated.

  • My mom always taught me to have the oil of the coconut come up to a simmer first before I add the kapik and yes, I prefer the seasonings to go after the meat b/c again, my mom said it smells less. Why would you want the aroma of fish sauce all over your kitchen? There are no right or wrong way to do things but there are plenty of different methods of cooking.

  • Just returned 2 days ag from Cambodia, lovedthe wonderful people and gorgeous country, so many so positive about education and rebuilding.

Loved the food including Amok which is somewhat as I make Thai Haw Mok Talay. Visited only Siem Reap, Ankor Wat of course, and Phnom Penh. Next time we will visit much more. his was my 32nd trip to Thailand, but 1st to Cambodia and not my last for sure.

  • oooyyy....m'houp khmer teat heuy..tver ouy kyom srok tik moit!!!! thanks na...

  • Thanks kesar15! I hope to post some pa-am very soon.

  • Hey Thank u for rectte ingredient curry

  • You're welcome and I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

  • what is galangal and rhizome and what curry when you make the home made curry paste im confused..im not cambodian but my husband is and i love the curry just dont know how to make it plz help by telling me how do u make the homemade curry

  • Hi there babyskai. If you google galangal and rhizome, it should give u some images. Galangal looks similiar to ginger & rhizome comes in either the roots in a jar or grounded in a pkg. I will send you a separate email how to make the homemade curry b/c it's too long to post it here.

  • Rhizone I think is the Kachai in Thai or Chnese Keys or fingers.

Galangal i found fresh orfrozen in most Asian marketshere in California.

  • Ummmmm yumm i love to eat that with fresh baked french baquettes...uuum ummmmm chganh mane mae pteas lake muay !! ;),you are trully a domestic godess if you can make me " nom banjaok Siam Reap" i dare you !! hahaha

  • How is nom pachok siem riep different from regular nom pachok? The only kind that I know how to make is the Nom Pachok Namya.

  • yummm!

  • Thanks!

  • wow bong looks sooooo good! im actually goin to make curry tonite! buts its the panang curry kind.. i think it will be similar but i think panang curry is sweeter right? i dunno but thanks for ur awesome videos! cant wait to cook tonite!

  • You're welcome and som ah khun dal muh videos robos kyom. Sometimes when I don't have time to make my own curry paste, I will use the panang curry or red curry by itself, but my mom says that it has more of a spice to it. At least with your own curry paste, you can make it as spicy or mild as you want. What vegetables do you use for your panang curry?

  • yes it is spicy! but i love spicy! i mixed the homemade paste with the panang so its not too spicy! hehe as for my vegies i used the white sweet potatoes(or the white yams??) not sure which, carrots, onions and green bell peppers since i didnt have any green beans! : ) do u know if the same kind of salor curry is used to make salor curry nom bachuk?? i want to make some kind of nom bachuk but my atempts at "jaib nom" suck!! do u know how to do that?

  • My family & I love spicy food too but ever since my mom had chemo and radiation done on her throat, she couldn't eat spicy anymore and so I had to modify it to her taste. Plus, we can always add in our own chilis afterwards anyways...so yes, now I always mix in my pastes...so we do use the same veggies then...*^_^* And nope, it's not the same paste for nome pachok. When I have time, I'll make a tutorial for that but I must warn you, my "jap nome" is not too good either...hehe!

  • ok thanks!! cant wait!

  • You're welcome!

  • Hi Bong, I adore your videos. Makes me miss home! I was wondering if the homemade curry paste can be made ahead of time and be refrigerated or do you recommend making it the day you're cooking? Thanks!

  • Hi Paowne! Oh wow cool! You live in Atlanta too? I'm glad you asked me that question b/c guess what? Mines was taken out of the freezer. Before the winter hits, we had cut down all our lemon grass from our garden and grind them all up with the remaining ingredients to make the paste and freezed them up. It can last for mths.

  • My mommy will be so proud of me if I past this test, hehe. I like your choice of song for this dish cauz the fast pace music makes it look quick and easy to prepare.

  • I'm running out of songs! I don't normally listen to Khmer music and now, I'm gonna have to dig through my mom's CDs to find some more upbeat ones...my favorite are Sin Si Samouth songs though. If you do happen to make this dish, please tell me how it goes and if you need further directions (in case my video was too fast to follow), don't hestitate to ask.

  • Hmm...I always love Somlor Curry Siche Moan but thought taking too much time and energy. I want to try this for this coming thanksgiving. Thanks girl, love ya.

  • You're welcome hun! It'll be a perfect dish for Thanksgiving. My late grandmother used to used to make somlor curry turkey for Thanksgiving...LOL! It actually tasted good too. I think the prep work is the most time consuming part but if you have all the ingredients in hand, cooking really is easy.

  • O man, that looks really really good... and healthy too! Cos of all those good veggies. Your really talented forg3tm3not770 =)

  • Aww...thanks Ash! Guess what? I only put that vegetables in there for taste but I hate vegetables...hehe!

  • O your so welcome. =D lol All those veggies you put in there and you dont like them? lol Thats funny.

  • Whenever I cook, I always give all the vegetables to my husband and I eat all the meat...hehe!

  • thanks for uploading. Please make a video how to make Nom Bajock Somlor Khmer. (khmer fish noddels soup)

  • You're welcome nyta2006 and thanks for watching. I'll add that to my list.

  • yummmy... wanna come over sis and cook for me?

  • lolz everytime i make curry im always chasing the potatoes and carrots : ) potatoes soak up all the yummy curry and the carrots get realllllyyy sweet iono y i put meat in it wen i know i'll neva eat it lolz

  • You know what? I just realized that when I'm reboiling my leftover curry soup, the potatoes are absorbing all the curry...LOL! And while you don't the meat, I hate the vegetables but I just put them there for the presentation...hehe!

  • I just realized when I was reboiling my leftover curry soup from last night that my potatoes were absorbing all the curry too! LOL! While you don't eat the meat, I hate the vegetables and only put them in there for the presentation...hehe!

  • mmmmm, look soooooo goood!

  • Thanks paowne! Does your family make it the same way?

  • Oooh....We missed you!!! This looks delish!!!

  • Thanks DoodyBugg! I hope to make more videos soon.

  • My favorite! Thank you, but I'm not brave enough to try cooking this.

  • Thanks xxTenny! It's really easy to make...just a lot of prep work such as the homemade curry paste. I hope you try it if it's your favorite...*^_^*

  • Yum! I'm getting hungry.

  • Thanks leeswifey85!

  • looks good!

  • Thanks ip1ncessi!

  • what do bamboo shoots taste like?

  • Hmm...it's kind of hard to explain...it's not sweet, sour, nor bitter, but more of a special texture to it...u should try it out in your soups and see if you like it, but make sure that you wash it with several rinses of water first before you cook it.

  • Ohhhhhhhhh...this dish make me hungry.....yummy....its soooo tempting....I'll just try to make it tonight....thanks for sharing it...

  • And thank you anjaliprincess25 for watching it!

  • LOVED this video!! looked soooo tastey!! YUM!!!

  • Thanks! I was rewatching it and I hope it wasn't too fast for my viewers...it really is a simple dish to make if you already have all your ingredients.

  • no no it wasnt too fast..it was fast in making me HUNGRY!! OH MAN!!

  • Oh great!
