  • lol "hope you can believe in", no negotiating, there you go...

  • I'm an Obama-fan, but this is something I completely disagree with.

One of the most important things in a war is by conversating with the enemy. When the enemy is not even a direct enemy, but instead the enemy of your ally (Israel), it's even MORE important to talk with Hamas.

    Truly disappointing.

It's time governments talk instead of mindlessly act...

  • I quite agree. There is a difference between TALKING to a terrorist organization leader and negotiating with it. I agree there should be NO negotiating with any terrorist group but open dialog with the leader of one isn't exactly a bad idea if you wish to help stop it. Can't do any harm to simply discuss ways to perhaps figure out why it's happening and how to get the group to stop.

  • Someone with common sense

  • all Obama does here is acknowledge and speak the reality. It is refreshing and neccessary towards forging a real movement towards peace. Israel needs and deserves our love and support as do the Palestinians, as do the Lebonese. Yet what Obama says is quite true and needs to be made clear & understood.

If you care about peace you love Israel & cry when there is violence, you love the Jewish people. You cry when there is violence in Iraq. You feel the pain & love for people of Islamic faith.

  • Hamas has very little to do and has shown little to no initiative on the very limited bare neccessities needed for compromise.

I'm very glad our next President was clear on this. Jimmy Carter nor Hagee are right on this issue. Obama is dead right and the change we need. Well said Mr. President.

  • Good luck in Indiana, & N.C. -Mr. Obama! This is a fickle country. People are fickle. You have covered every issue. But the Powers that Be are against you-you represent a threat their power, They Don't Want Change, they fear change-why? Because what else will they do...wrong? I wish You, Me, Us, We, prosperity with your nomination! America has been truly inspired by your honesty, integrity,& breadth of knowledge. I only hope that your New School debate tactics are acceptable w/the SuperDelegates!

  • This is very disappointing. By the end of Carter's meeting Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal offered peace for 1967 borders, one of the greatest appeal of Obama was his stance on negotiation without precondition. Like it or not , Hamas is the elected representatives of Palestinian and if peace for Israel you are after talking to Hamas is a necessity.

  • shame on you Obama!

  • What a hypocrite.

  • whts happening? i thought obama said he will talk to enemies even, so there wont be more blood shed

  • As an Obama supporter, I'm saddened by what he's saying here. Hamas is a democratically elected organization [2006] that carries out terrorist activities. Israel is a non-democratically elected fabrication [1948] that carries out terrorist activities with the aid of the U.S. government.

Sen. Obama should be denouncing both Hamas and Israel for their actions while praising Carter for speaking with Hamas. Now, he should encourage Carter to speak with Israel and eventually foster some peace.

  • I thought you were a proponent of diplomacy, particularly with Iran who is responsible for Katyusha rockets firing on US troops in Iraq. Why not Hamas who was legitimately elected into office and has arguably a more desperate position than Iran. I know I'm in the minority but I think the Carter Center is a great institution and we need more organisations like this in the US, because the politicians simply fail in these areas altogether.

  • What happened to talking with people whom you disagree with?

Hamas was democratically elected by the palestinian people, to NOT meet and hope to gain peaceful resolution is a mistake.

Israel is also seen as terrorists depending on who you talk to...

    Not a good look Obama...

  • Obama is so presidential - I love it !!

    Yes we can !!

  • To make things clear to anyone watching, Obama is willing to talk with countries like Iran, but not with terrorist groups like Hamas.
