  • Angus Young referred to van halen in an interview as a "pop" band compared to them...lols

  • pretty simple when you slow it down, thanks

  • Keep it on man

  • Loved it.

  • U ARE AWESOME BUT I PLAY BASS GUITAR :P XD

  • no feeling in this solo just showing of his tech skill listen to jhon frusciante play might not be super hard to play but sounds amazing

  • @pisshead555 John fruciante...rhcp....thats funny your comparing them herp derp.

  • Thanks a lot!!!

  • how do you make that high-pitched sound in 0:7-:10???? tnx

  • @dokeesetu Theyre called pinch harmonics, it's when your thumb of your picking hand touches the string straight after you have picked the string.

  • Hey man, I'm sitting here trying to lern this solo and have the same guitar, same color :)

  • ur playing drop tuning dude, is that what gotta do

  • It's not Kent Carlevi.

  • Hendrix overrated as a guitarist? I agree that techincal achievement has come along way since Jimi's day, but he done things that no one else had done before!! Alright he doesn't play like Joe Satriani, but so fucking what, he had bags of soul, and originality...... I can't wait to hear Marko7T4 do something even half as pioneering! And we can talk about how overrated he was 40 years later!

  • @albuhkirky As for Hendrix not being important technically, in 1989 I interned with someone who in two decades earlier interned at ELECTRIC LADYLAND.

At THAT time Hendrix was ALREADY trying to get things recorded differently. It was the absolute beginning of digital audio recording technology, and SMPTE marking. It just wasn't codified and industry standard.

  • wow all the comments about Hendrix being overrated, I guess next they'll say electricity is overrated

Hendrix showed a different way to play guitar and it's never been the same since , much like Eddie

  • thanxs and its great

  • lol when i got my first amp with reverb i noticed every guitar sounds better with a bit of reverb

  • Thanks a lot for sharing this video. Brilliant playing, respect. Put me on track learning this solo. All the best, Corné.

  • well done mate.

  • All the kids say Hendrix was overrated but he came out with stuff that no one had ever even heard before. Too bad he was such a doper.

  • he even made a new unique style he used in little wing

  • Thta's really cool.

  • This is awesome, thanks!

  • This is awesome, thanks

  • very nice..finally explained - I couldn't get this using the tabs

  • Faked? No way, I could tell of you were faking, and even more so with the slowed down version. I can sort of understand though, because you SO totally nail it so perfectly that one might think so.

  • nice tone

    =D

  • Hey nice vid U guys should check out mine comment rate and subscribe pls thnx guys

  • this is good and ya i want to see alexc475 try this

  • is that major 3rd at 0:11 intentional?

  • Are you sure thats a major 3rd.

  • He's not faking, look at his horrible vibrato.

  • Excellent! You got any more of these?

  • Great job. Everything seems perfect to me.

  • Nice one mate, next time to silence the doubters you should talk us through you moves, THANKS AGAIN.

  • nothing hard just hammer ons, pull offs, harmonics, and tapping thanks for vid

  • WHERES YOUR GUITAR PLAYING THEN alecx475 ???..maybe you cant play ?? just talk crap about nothing hard in that solo...

  • He was not talking shit, your reading comprehension skills fail hard.

  • Well, obviously it shouldn't be too hard for an experienced musician, which im not.

I still can't get it right. Specially the tapping part when you change strings.

    Cheers :P

  • true. o_o

  • put the tab please

  • mj was noting next to eddie van halen hail eddie

  • Dude can you send me please this tab when you have it?.....Thanks:)

  • what amp?

  • first of all thank you for the slowed down version ... I have got a question, are you sure that the notes for the tapping are correct? ... I think thats not the case...

  • GREAT!. It sounds beautiful slowed down. It could be turned into a love song just from those melodies. The man is/was a genius, and anyone who can do that perfectly is at least quite good.

  • Great!!! Thanks very much for posting!!

  • MJ was already very famous, obviously, before the Beat It recording, but he wasn't considered cool in the white rock community, and this song was his attempt to get a foot in the door into that (white rock) market. When radio stations got the record in the mail (esp rock and AOR stations), it had written in BIG letters on it "EDDIE VAN HALEN GUITAR SOLO", and the rest is history.

  • very nice, yesterday i didnt know how to play it , today i do. good job

  • hahahahha you call this, solo ?

  • Its the slowed down version captain obvious

Damn... WAY too many dumb people roaming around YouTube

  • good

  • Comment removed

  • tooooooooooooo much delay.

  • you need that much delay when you play it fast

when its slow it just sounds bad

  • hey yo xiozthunderplums: fuck you!!

  • pfft

the sound mostly comes from the fingers.. and his unique sound come from hrs and hr of playing

so it really doesnt matter what set up is used (plays a minor part)

good job on the solo ^^

  • great stuff bud and solid showing

  • Can Some One Please Tell me THe amp Setup for this sound because no one

has it and i have the exact same guitar he has!

    so yeah please help!!!

  • Alright.. The equipment I use is pretty straightforward and cheap. An Indonesian Fender Squier (where I recently fitted some original Strat pickups on the neck and mid, but not for this video), a BOSS GT6 - Effects processor (which I tweaked by feel as I always do) and it's plugged into a Marshall CD-15. Very cheap basic setup

  • 3) Not just tapping .. all kinds of harmonics, variations, volume swells...an endless list. How can I not respect his genius. Most of his tone lies in his fingers. People don't seem to realise that and if anyone does any Van halen stuff, he better do it EXACTLY to understand his genius. Eddie rules the universe. I would give my life to watch a Van Halen concert live!!

  • @bijitbora correction he or SHE...orianthi pagliari covered his beat it solo awesomly for this is it.

  • @jareds1007 Panagaris

  • @str8ngrrr typical of me to promote somone and spell their name wrong.....jeeze....thanks.

  • @jareds1007 no worries; why do you think she is just trying to be known by Orianthi ??

But, of course, lets not forget about Jennifer Batten. She covered Beat It, LIVE and stood in performance next to MJ on stage and featured with one excellent blonde faux hawk.

  • @str8ngrrr or was it a genuine Mohawk.

    Can't recall.

  • Now thats a Van Halen guitar lesson!

  • ooh ! .. please can you tell me your set up ? amp and pedals ? REALLY really good sound .. thank you !

  • dis video will keep those noobies mouth shut!!! if u cant play as good as him den dun be a sour shit!

  • Thank you so much. I played this live years agao and the solo was so totally crap. Lots of noise and effects. I never knew how to hit the right notes. You're excellent my friend. Now if only youtube would have existed in the eighties I would have been awesome LOL!!!! Any more solos out there of this callibre?

  • I know exactly what you're talking about, but I think I managed to play this way back when (1992 or so) and I think it still was pretty close, but I needed a half decent walkman and a load of listening. I do like youtube a lot and agree that if this was there in the eighties, some of us would have very decent bands of amazing musical quality today!

  • Thanks man, That helped me out alot.......GW

  • You're welcome buddy

  • I am now one of your fans!

I have to do this every night,

    let the last note ring,

(the only one I had correct, LOL!!!)

and start the key solo with my right hand.

now it won't sound like a bunch of meaningless penta notes

all swirling about in the echo!

    thank you...

  • Thanks Jill. You're welcome .. Always appreciate being appreciated cos lots of work needs to go in over the years to play a small little solo piece like "Jump" ... hardly lasting a few seconds

  • HI.... A great big thank you for those who liked it. I really think this system is better than tabs...playing slow....cos u can hear the guitar tone as well and get the feel Eddie gets" It's in the fingers. Eddie Van Halen is my GOD!!! Don't know how to explain it, but the man's a genius & he doesn't even know it!!

  • Great to hear you respect Eddie. I think many people on youtube are using his solos just to show off almost to say 'hey he wasnt that great cos I can play it'

When people transcribe twenty year old solos written by geniuses they need to remember and respect the artist and then go learn to write their own shit

    Rock on

  • Thanks man. Eddie Van Halen for me is God. He is the reason I learnt guitar. For me he is more influential than hendrix. People just don't know that 1) He discovered Mr. Floyd Rose who came up with the double locking whammy system we all use today. He actually asked him to design something for him. 2) Michael Jackson first became famous because of Eddie

  • your sound is amazing dude. i think fenders are overrated overpriced but id buy one if i could sound like that.

  • even tho Hendrix pours more soul into his masterpieces(meaning more than one and all in the span of 3 years.... Verses Eddie's fretboard frenzy guitar leads....Eddie did have major influence on rock and popularized tapping as his swagger in the guitar

  • Hi Mate,

I think your Jackson comment is bollocks. I dont remember Eddie playing on any of the Jackson 5 songs. I do agree with your Hendrix comment though. Ive always though he was overrated as a guitarist and if he hadnt have died then he would have remained mediocre.

    Loved your playing though

  • Eddie Van Halen is the guitarist for Michael Jackson's Beat it video. It's a well known fact and Van Halen were a much bigger and well known band. They were a rage!!!. Eddie has a huge role to play in MJ becoming so famous in his solo career. Check out the solo in "Beat It"

  • Yeah mate I know he played the solo in Beat It but if you check out MJ's career he was famous well before beat it. His use of video and his innovative dance style were more well known than the fact that EVH played a solo on 1 song. If you ask anyone about Thriller, the album that Beat It is on, they are going to comment on video for the Thriller song rather than EVH's solo. As a Van Halen fan you seem to have a blinkered view on this one a bit.

  • I love Iron Maiden, but I dont think that Lucozade only became well known because the song "Phantom of the Opera" was used in an advertising campaign in 1983.

  • OK...'well known fact'??? Errrr....show me proof. Link? Anything? Can't do that? What a surprise! You're delusional sweety. I'm not actually a fan of MJ really but Van Halen weren't even discovered till 1978, when Michael Jackson would have been recording 'Off The Wall' which sold 29 MILLION copies before Eddie Van Halen even stepped into a studio to record just the solo on 'Beat It' for 'Thriller'........

  • So if selling 29 million copies of your first solo album isn't something you'd consider as successful, you REALLY need to get a grip!

  • @bijitbora he only recorded the beat it solo, he wasn't in his band.

  • @Marko7T4 Eddie did play the solo on the Michael Jackson song "Beat It". BUT, Michael Jackson was already a superstar, and had already been a superstar, when Eddie played the solo on it. Michael Jackson did not need Eddie to make him a superstar. He was a superstar BEFORE Van Halen even formed. Michael Jackson at his death had 600 Million fans world wide. I don't think Van Halen has anywhere near that many.

  • @AuroraRegalis

    And now he's dead.

  • @Marko7T4 yea man hes right on the beat it

  • 5/5 best version I have seen on the tube! And you taught me well my friend!

  • if someone couldn't tell if he was really playing in the faster vid then they REALLY need help...u can clearly hear Eddie in the background...u can clearly hear this guy above that too...

i swear...some people just are noobs at stuff thinking "hey i can play guitar hero, and now i no just as much as u..." bullshit...hand em a real guitar they would be LOST...cuz they f**king suck and have no life...unlike this guy who is f**king amazing...

    U DID DO EDDIE JUSTICE!!!!

  • Thank you so much. It's really hard to do Eddie justice. He is the greatest guitarist ever for me!!! and there could not be a nicer compliment. Thanks again.

  • that is tru eman people look at them selves as if they can play eruption when they can play expert on guitar hero

  • just wondering if its cool with bijibora if i could do a longer instruction video than this, at first i didn't quite get it because your camera is slightly blury and distorted so its hard to see and your playing slightly fast for some people to catch, but your a great guitarist, i watched your quick version, 5 star.

    Nick

  • You sure can. Thank you!

  • Nice that someone takes the time to show others...5*

  • As long as it benefits others, that's more like a blessing than a complement. Thanks

  • I think you are very good, this vid has helped me as my guitar pro tab was a note or 2 off.....thanks for uploading this

  • You're most welcome and I'm happy to hear that I'm being of some help. You can check my new wall video as well

  • Great

  • Congratulations

  • Nicely done! I'm gonna start on this tomorrow!

  • please make a tab!!!!!!!!!!i would be forever in ur debt if you did mke one you are so good!

  • thanks, used this for playing the solo correct in my band! Slowed down it is pretty easy to do! I have practiced for a week now and have it nailed at full speed, thanks again, superb instructional.

  • My pleasure. Glad to help a fellow Van Halen fan any day man!!!

  • Good job!

  • bijit, anyway you could do a similar instructional for evh's 'panama' solo?

from the vid, i can now play the 'jump' solo pretty well, not as a good as you, but good.

  • Hi man. Good to ss I'm being of some use to others. I've to get my net connection back home.I'm in a cafe now.Panama's one of my favorites and I have played it before, so good idea. I'll record it soon and put it up, but I'm a lazy guy so you may need to remind me.

  • no prob, i dont want to put you on the spot, but if you can that would be cool.

  • I never had doubts anyway man, you ROCK!

  • well done bijit sir....u will continue to rock no matter what these stupid people say......cheers!!!!
