It's a pity that this the 2nd 747 made, the first to fly commercially is now parked and rusting. It was shipped to S. Korea in pieces, partially reassembled, and used as a restaurant which is now abandoned. A sad end to a once proud plane.
They usually perform VMU tests on a strike pad on the fuelsage thereby not damaging the aircraft. i guess it wouldn't matter to Pan Am if this were the case. As Pan Am were the launch customer of the 747, I don't think they would mind Boeing doing tests on their aircraft.
Out of the five test 747s,this one was tested the hardest,and delivered to PAN AM the last out of 25 ordered.
