@BrotherDown1 Thanks! There's so many options out there. You should take a look at vintagesynth. They have tons of info there to help you find the gear to find your sound. For gear similar to what I use, check out the Korg Electribes, or Yamaha Rm1x. If you have more cash look into maybe a Quasimidi or Access Virus or Akai MPC. Other option is to go software and get a usb controller or keyboard. Reason is a good start for PC or Mac.
im thinking of getting a 505, 909, or even an 808. are they relatively easy to use? Im kind of debating between getting one of them or getting Reason 4.0 for my PC...
Computers can pretty much replicate everything the 505 can do and more... especially Reason... you just have to look beyond the factory preset sounds and find different sound banks... and ReDrum is set up just like the old grooveboxes...
depends what you want to make - reason is good for generic dance stuff but not very exiting to my mind. Hardware samplers are fantastic and really make you think about what you're doing but are fiddly to work. the best all round solution is a Mac and Logic 8 - absolutely sick programming environment, soft synths, midi control for outboard hardware, multitrack recording if you need to record bands or drums etc, its got everything! plus the Exs24 software sampler is simple but very powerful
listen up bdudy.... Reason was great when it came out in like 2000..... I know cause i used to mess with Rebirth in 1998... & I foolishley bought a real copy of Reason v2.5 which set me back a few hundred quid... I own a Roland mc 303 and it is much more fun making the muisc on equipment.. Dont buy software... Get someone to download it... I have messed with the 808 & i think it is pretty shit.. Personally i want a 505 & 909 & Korg Electribes. Check em out..
go for a used 505 or even a 303 to get your feet wet - a 300 is abot 100 $ or smthg. - you just CANNOT get awy cheaper and it'a rel thing !
Whereas THIS shown here does showw the full potential of a MC 505 - NOT ! ;))
Go for Eric Prydz "Pjanoo" - YOU CAN do even THAT stuff instead ! I gonna upload a BRAZIL-style remix of that tune today - you'll see the difference !
The 505 is well worth it. I picked mine up on ebay about a month ago for $175 US. I sold my 303, kinda wish I'd kept it though. The 505 is huge compared to the 303(I used to take my 303 with me to work to play with at lunch, not any more!). The sounds that you can make with the 505 compared to the 303 are insane, and the onboard effects, though limited are way more than the 303.
this is sick, i did a tribute to the same song with my korg ea-1, i just got my hands on a working 505, i love it.

i spend $500 on reason and a midi keyboard...
WASTED my money... now im gonna sell the PC and the keyboard and get me a mc-505 and a S1000 sampler...
The groovebox was MADE to make music... the PC wasn't.

think twice about S1000 ... it's quite old. Buy some groove samplers - korg does nice one, yamaha too ...

Get the electribes. ESX + EMX you've got a nifty live setup there. Add in an MS2000, complete!

The 808 is cool, I don't like how all the functions are hidden in menus. 909 is the ultimate Roland groovebox, IMO.
