The first feature dramatic film on Clemente's life will be released next year to honor the 40th anniversary of Roberto going to heaven. If you believe he's the greatest right fielder ever, for film update and free tickets, go to the website "Kickstarter" and then search "Baseball's Last Hero"
This posted video, “40 Years in 3 Minutes” revisits key moments in history over the last 40 years. But, if you look carefully, among the fast-moving images synchronized to The Beatles' GET BACK and GLASS ONION, you'll see all 3 Pittsburgh sports teams represented here. Enjoy.
NO DISRESPECT TO ALL THE BASEBALL LEGENDS BUT IN MY OPINION NO ONE COMPARES TO CLEMENTE HE COULD DO IT ALL AND HIS COMPETITIVE SPIRIT WAS INCOMPARABLE NO ONE HAD MORE PASSION AND HUMILITY LIKE CLEMENTE HE HAD THE DOBLE WHAMY HE WAS BLACK AND LATINO AND YET HE SHOWED HOW GREAT HE WAS . HE WAS THE EMBODIMENT OF A GREAT BASEBALL PLAYER IN OFENSE AND DEFENSE . QUE VIVA EL MEJOR LATINO Y EN MI OPINION EL MEJOR PELOTERO DE LA HISTORIA
Tremendous video! I love the Pirates and we were blessed to watch the great players such as Clemente, Stargell, Parker, Madlock, Maz, etc.., Remember the O'Brien twins from the 50's? Great memories; thanks for sharing this video!
al oliver wilbur stargell manny sanguillen rennie stennet bill mazeroski gene cline roberto clemente richie hebner Veale Blass Tekulve Ellis..........and the list goes on and on
Had to endure all my friends being Cardinal fans in the midwest,, me wearing my sleeveless GOLD&BLACK #21!..Roberto still in my heart,, see ya soon my brother
i remember going to three river stadium in the early 90s... i love the people and the stadium.. i am a redsox fan... but being a pirates fan is a very close second; sorry boston, i really really miss three river...
Even as a longtime Reds fan, losing Pops Stargell as quck and unexpected was one of the most heartbreaking things in my life. All 3 times i met him he put smiles on every kid and adult that was around him. He ill always be one of the "good guys"
I think that's a great idea HopHead - the way Clemente played the game makes today's so called stars look sick. A class act on and off the field - something obviously in short supply today. He deserves greater recognition - it would remind everyone the definition of a great player
@pirates21pirates we should give the team to lamue i mean look at the pens they had the off years, but when he got the team he turned it compeletey around mabey he can do that for the pirates
When they blew up Three Rivers Stadium they still owed $48 million on it. And then they made PA taxpayers pay for the new stadium. Makes me want to sucker punch the next politician I meet.
What do you all think of this scenario: Retiring #21 for all teams in a similar manner that Jackie Robinson's #42 was retired. Celemente certainly did a great deal for Latin Americans both on an off the field. I'm sort of on the fence but was wondering what others thought. Thanks!
That 79 was amazing, I was 7 that year and lucky enough to have gone to a couple of games. I saw one where Jim Bibby pitcher the whole game hiving up only 2 hits and hit a 2 run HR and a double. While we're at it, don't forget the Candyman.
And i gotta say, this was a pirates tribute, it doesnt matter who did what now, they all played there, and while there made an impact, too bad we had to lose giles though, bonds was a self absorbed ass even then, but was a good hitter.
That's a beautiful video and Tree Rivers stadium was great with the exception that the distance of the outfield from home plate robbed Pops of about 400 more home runs.
Also, Barry Steroid Bonds should NEVER be in a video with Stargell and Clemente.
I miss Stargell the most. I wish there were more videos of him on the net. I can't seem to find any. Pops was a God.
I'm a lifelong Cardinals fan and they did the same thing to Busch so I know how you feel. I have all of my Ozzie, etc memories.
@Selfishbastard I totally agree w/ you about "Pops!" (And BONDS! HA!) Grew up in Washington, Pa, not far from "The Burgh" and was fortunate enough to have met Willie twice when I was a little fella. He was soo kind, and a wonderful person. Very "real" and his smile was sincere. Sorry your comment was 2 years ago & I'm writing you NOW! HA! Take care my friend.
Grew up as a Dodger fan but I used to love watching Kent Tekulve with that side arm pitching style of his. Loved those Pirates uniforms of the late 70's and early 80's. Much respect from a lifelong Dodger fan!
Although I left Pittsburgh almost 21 years ago, It was, and will always remain, HOME. Being the HUGE Sports fan that I am, growing up rooting for the Pirates, Steelers, Penguins & University of Pittsburgh became an obsession & passion that still exists in me to this day. Having the opportunity to watch Clemente in Forbes Field, Stargell in 3 River Stadium, Lemieux in the Civic Arena, and Tony Dorsett at the University of Pittsburgh, those opportunities are now considered BLESSINGS!
just saw this vid today...not a pitt fan...not a pen fan...not a pirate fan...just a sports fan (san diego)....loved every second of it...love pittsburgh fans!

NUMBER 21 FOREVER ROBERTO THE GREAT CLEMENTE
LION0410 11 months ago
If Jackie Robinson's number is retired, then why not Clemente's? He means as much or more to his people as Robinson did to his.

I would like to remind everyone that in his 7 years with Pittsburgh, Bonds won as many MVP awards as Clemente and Stargell combined.

I am a Pittsburgh fan forever, but Bonds used roids.
reddmann 2 years ago
He used Steroids during his Giants years. Not the Pittsburgh era. Cheap owner ship ran him out of Pittsburgh.

another reason Bonds was in this is because we miss the Barry Bonds we had the one without the Steroids
chrisdude07 3 years ago
Nope, you're thinking of Forbes Field. Pops hit the majority of his homers in Three Rivers, which was much smaller.
Demonsweatlive 3 years ago
You're absolutely right. I was thinking of Forbes field. Too bad Pops couldn't have played his younger years in Three Rivers too.

@Selfishbastard
Wasn't it Forbes that had the long outfield, high fences, etc?

Where the FUCK is KENT FUCKIN' TEKULVE?
ryguy270 3 years ago
I agree! I would have finessed the language a little bit, but the sentiment is the same. Tekulve is one of my all-time favorites!
mescfish 3 years ago
Tekulve, PHIL GARNER (Old ScrapIron!) and Parker from the '79 team could have all been in there. Kent was the MAN though.
And Garner was just a badass player. He did the things that don't show up on stat sheets. He did the ones that win you games! I remember.
