  • This was Liam. I was there. We recorded this in Dublin in or near Windmill lane studios. I sang in the 'lifeboat chorus' which was made up of whoever was hanging around the studio on the day. We also recorded some other song where we start clapping out of time for comic effect and then in time. I was there as a photographer. I am not related to Liam Clancy. I am not a lifeboat man. I still sing his songs and my favourite is 'The Dutchman'.

  • What a great song! I have always been a fan of Liam, and as a volunteer marine rescue member, this song stirs up great memories and sad memories alike. But makes me proud to be a volunteer.

  • This is Liam Clancy. This was originally released on Phil Coulter's album 'Words & Music'. The version on Phil's album 'Songs I Love So Well' is exactly the same except Phil is singing instead of Liam. The instrumentation and backing vocals are the same one Liam sang to. On the 'Words & Music' album of Phil's, the Dubliners are heard singing 'Take Me Home'. Same thing here. Using the same background, Phil replaced the Dubliners voices with his own.

  • This is Phil Coulter singing it, not Liam. It WAS written by Phil Coulter after the tragic loss of his elder brother, Brian, who was tragically drowned in Lough Swilly in 1984. This song was recorded by Phil, the Clancy brothers and the Lifeboat Chorus (actual lifeboat crews).

  • @GlasgowCeltic88 You are some idiot. This is without a doubt Liam Clancy, His voice is nothing like Phil's

  • @highwayman012

I direct you towards track 6 of Phil's 2001 album 'The Songs I Love So Well'.

  • @GlasgowCeltic88 Have you ever listened to Liam Clancy? This is clearly Liam Clancy, no if's and's or but's. It is not Phil Coulter. I have many a Liam Clancy cd with this great track on it.

  • @GlasgowCeltic88 I was there. I'm singing in the chorus. Liam was the singer. Kevin Clancy.

    RIP

  • As an old sailor, I appreciate the efforts of the RNLI, Coast Guards, and other lifesaving organizations world wide. This song brings a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat.

    Eternal Father, strong to save,

Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,

Who bids the mighty ocean deep

    Its own appointed limits keep;

Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,

For those in peril on the sea!

  • This is the Hymm for all Lifeboat crews, both RNLI and Independent Lifeboat crews. Please support them all

  • hey hey i love liam nd he`s big man balls keep swinging my friend:D

  • phil coulter from buncrana in donegal wrote this song for buncrana RNLI lifeboat station. I think his sister drowned but i know for def that he wrote it for them as a tribute

  • Every time I hear of a fishing tragdey such as Maggie B, Pere Charles & the most recent one at the weekend off Galway coast, this is the track I think of.

  • I saw "The Boy's" in Concert in Burlington VT in 1989. We had front row seats and I have to say that it one of the greatest evenings of my life, seeing them and singing with them and my friend's. I sadly miss them but always rember them. They were the greatest ever. Rick Flannery Cudlipp
