@neonpinkbelt I suppose they meant figuratively, as if the Zebra escaping the jaws of the crocodile equals it's destruction of the crocodile's hope to chomp on it. It was interesting that in the time it took for the crocodile to readjust it's grip on the zebra, the zebra was able to flee. I would think that this rarely happens, considering the ambush skills of the crocodile coupled with it's 1 and a half ton bite force per square inch. I could be wrong though.

Not really. Just so you'll know, croc attacks you see filmed and aired are not representative.

Crocs are successful about 1 time out of 9, like most ambush-type predators. They expend so few calories in their hunting, compared to predators that chase down their prey, that they can afford to miss a few.

The zebra had an 8-in-9 chance of escaping, but escapes don't draw crowds like kills do, so you rarely see them aired. Kudos to BlackOnca for this.

I live near a natural park where it's easy to watch Great Blue Herons hunting. Like crocs, they are mostly stalk-and-ambush hunters and I see them miss their meal a _lot_ more often than catching it. But I won't claim to have kept track of the actual percentage.
