  • @flamorgan As with any bike and at any level of racing, there are other factors to be considered. Such as the rider, that rider's style, the mechanics tuning the bike, the support staff and supplies. I've ridden Duc's, Suzuki, and Honda's; with my style (aggressive in the turns, hard on the brakes, quick wrist on the exit) I've always gone back to the Ducati. The Jap bikes are nice for their price tag both at sale and upkeep after, but I feel in love with the 916 and it hasn't changed since.

  • i had a cbr954rr3 the last of the real blades (with a steering damper) very quick and very safe bike, if you crash one it's your fault but in the end it was very dull doing iom tt speeds on the road, but i also have a ducati with a 996 engine and the bike is an event every time i ride it and on real roads (not that 80 mile loop that some people turn into their local racing circuit), a ducati can mix it with most bikes.

  • Ducs have won more WSBK championships than every other marque put together.......I have owned a gixxer 1000 which I loved, A kawi 1000......but nothing..I mean nothing rides like a Ducati. The people that usually talk smack about Ducs are the ones that either don't know any better or young biker boys who speed on the straight aways with very poor corner speed and bad technique.

  • The price difference between Ducati and the rice fed Japanese bikes are much closer now than they have ever been. Down to about $5000 when it used to be closer to a $10,000 difference. Plus, here's something to think about, how many manufacturers titles has Ducati won since the inception of WSBK? 16 out of 22. And 13 times has the championship rider been on a Ducati in those 22 seasons, so they must be doing something right at the factory in Bologna, Italy.

  • Okay, lets settle this right here and now from someone who's been following bikes and racing (particularly WSBK) for 15yrs now... The Japanese litre bikes are all Inline 4's, resulting in a power band that's more mid-to-high in the RPMs. The Ducati is a 90 degree V-twin (L-twin) which is more balanced throught the RPMs and has more torque. Its that torque increase that gives Duc its advantage through corners, especially when paired with the more narrow and slim aerodynamics of its body ...

  • @jrbuetow17 The honda actually produces slightly more torque than the Ducati @82.6 ft/lb compared to 81.9 ft/lb for the Ducati.

  • @Flamorgan That's a whopping 0.7 difference in stock baseline trim. Now look at the numbers for those bikes in race trim, which that's where Ducati really focuses their primary attention first. Plus, the Honda has the distinctive peaky torque curve, whereas the Ducati's torque curve is much more smooth, flat, and usable. That's the point I was driving at previously.

  • @jrbuetow17 Yes I see what you mean, but even in race bike terms the Honda will blitz the Ducati, I have seen the V twins getting hammered on many occassions at the north west 200 by smaller bikes when they ran 750cc Ducatis in the 600cc class. Even the purpose built NW200 Ducati was beaten and that bike cost a fortune. I have only ever owned 2 older model Ducatis and would never buy another one as they were so unreliable and poorly built.

    I have owned both '04 Blade and '04 999S. The 999 is the one currently sitting in my garage, because it is a lot more fun to ride. It also handles better and has better brakes.

    There wasn't a single lie in my previous post. I've ridden several incarnations of the 1000cc superbikes from all of the 4 Japanese firms. The best was the K5 Suzuki GSXR1000. 2nd was the 04 Kawasaki ZX10R. The Blade is dull by comparison.

    The 999 handles better than every 1000cc Jap machine I've ridden, more like a GSXR750. It's a lot more fun at road legal speeds than any 1000cc Jap bikes.

    My 999 has top quality Ohlins suspension and Brembo brakes. It handles better than the 04 Blade that I owned or the 07 and 09 models ones that I have ridden. It it very similar handling to an 08 GSXR750, which is better than any Blade has ever been. The brakes on my 04 999 are as strong as the ones on the 09 Blade, better than those on the 04 or 07 models.

    You never answered the question. Have you ridden both of the bikes in this video?

    These are road bikes. The road legal versions of the WSB (World Superbikes) machines, and nothing to do with MotoGP. Ducati has dominated WSB for the best part of the last two decades, despite having a lot less R & D money than Honda.

    Actually ride the bikes, before trying to comment on which is better.

    But to reply - or add - to the comment your replying to; just look at different motorbikes, eventhough many have the same amount of CC's, their Horsepower are not all the same. a 1000cc output does not necessarily equal 160 hp (or any number in particular).

    Just look it up on Google: CC vs HP.

  • dude check this out, Sunday August 30 2009 i decided to take my modified 999s out just to roll around and i stumbled into bikers with a Suzuki GSXR 750, A Yamaha R1 and LORD behold a Honda CBR1000rr. so basically all of them wanted to race me @ the same time to see which one is faster. Now as soon as it started the CBR1000rr started off quicker, but from the middle of the race til the end the powerband kicked in and my Ducati 999s OVERTOOK the CBR1000rr and THERE WAS NO CHANCE IN CATCHING UP.

  • I hate to tell you this, but a CBR 1000 will stomp the living shit out of a Ducati 999 in any real world performance test. It weighs almost as much DRY as the CBR does WET, has almost 40 hp LESS, and costs almost twice as much (lol). It's top speed is 160mph which is 600cc class, not liter class top end.

    On a track, a 999 can outhandle somewhat and a rider can win against the CBR. Go to the CBR 600 and it will stomp the liter class Ducati.

    Most of us are on the street anyway, not the track.

  • Being hand crafted and all of that, the styling, you're right. It's better than the honda in that regard hands down.

    But anyone can look up the specs. The Duke is heavier, has 40hp less, and its top speed is 160. The honda has dual disc brakes too, comuter controlled steering dampening, dual stage FI. Then Honda beats the Duke by a full 1.0 sec in the quarter mile and by almost 30 mph on top end.

    The CBR and every other Jap liter bike blows the duke off the fucking road. It's no secret. Check topspeed (dot) com for specs and reviews. There is no question, at all. It isn't even close. It's a liter bike with 600cc bike performance.
