  • The smartest person in the room was the first guy who didn't play.

  • @MrN5004 no the smartest person in the room is Ricky

  • Compared to his other videos, he's alot more abrasive. Even if he's acting, and knowing he's a master card mechanic for starters, I wouldn't want to play with this Ricky.

  • The guy that got kicked out first must be feeling great by now!

  • He didn't let him play because Ricky always has to get the 9. Once he gets the 9 no matter what he wins. But because the first guy shuffled it when the 9 was on top he kicked him out.

  • Might actually start using this trick to earn some money too haha

  • @OnslowThurston: To even ask your question belies the fact that you know very little about Ricky Jay. He doesn't *do* other people's stuff. He's a weirdo, that way.

  • The death card is marked.

  • fake

  • @magiczoro822 Your point is? Of course there is no such thing as real magic. So your comment makes no sense nor does it serve any purpose.

  • @magiczoro822 FAKE??? Hahaaa probably you don't know RICKY JAY!! Fake...ha haaaaaaaa

  • well done Rickeyyyyyy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :DD

  • man thats just a role he is playing guys ;D

  • A little Too dramatic - but a very good demonstration of Con .

  • lol Ricky got a lil hyper in this one :p

  • I love this guy.

  • it looks like you win...except you don't

    because ricky always wins

  • Ricky Jay is so incredibly awesome. It's sad that I just realized how old he is. There will soon be a world without the greatest sleight of hand artist of the past 300 years.

  • @MrKetnis Actually, Dai Vernon was apparently better.... I don't know, though. It's what I heard.

  • awesome!

  • And this act reminds me so much of that fat kid in school who used to pressure kids to make bad trades with pokemon cards. LOL

  • It looks like you win, doesn't it?

    Except you don't!

    AHHAHAAHHAAHAHAH owned

  • wow Ricky jay has a scary side lol

  • I would pay $50 just to play a round of poker with ricky...

  • это очень легко!!!! просто нужно 3 Q + 3 7 + 3 9 и одна любая карта смысл состоит в том что себе первому надо взять одну q.или 7 или 9

  • I was never a big fan of the ten card poker deal until I saw Ricky Jay do his version. It is Brilliant!

  • if you watched ricky jay before, you'll see it was all an act

    i couldn't stop laughing lol

  • wow that guys an ass

  • 1:08 "would I? i'd play with anyone in the world" ~ ricky jay

    BECAUSE HE CAN

  • this is the greatest act/play/con/trick/magic i've ever seen.

  • Yikes! It looks like somebody missed his nap…

  • the explanation can be found in scamschool

    easy trick

  • @samuelws1996 There are several versions of The Ten Card Poker Deal. However the one Ricky uses here has not been published.

  • @samuelws1996 That's just one version. The one in the book you mentioned is not the version that Ricky is doing here. In fact Ricky hasn't published the version he uses here. No one has published this version.

  • @RS1963 Version of what? What he's doing is explained below. If he what he's doing has never been published then how do you know what it is?

  • @OnslowThurston Ricky is doing a version of what is known as "Ten card poker deal" There are many versions of this effect that other magicians perform. Ricky's version has not been published. What is there to not understand about that?

  • @RS1963 You didn't answer my question. How did you come by this information? Thanks.

  • @OnslowThurston How did I not answer your question? It's this simple. Ricky does not publish any of the things that he uses. There are other versions of the Ten Card Poker deal, that have been published. What is so difficult to understand about that. What I was saying in my original post is that what has been published by others is not the method that Ricky is seen using here. Rather pure and simple fact to understand.

  • @RS1963 Uh-huh. And how do you know this?

  • @OnslowThurston What is this the century of the dense? I'm not going to keep explaining what is painfully obvious even though you just don't get it.

  • @RS1963 You are unnecessarily rude and pretty idiotic as well. You never once even attempted to answer my question, which is: if you do not know how Ricky Jay is doing this trick, then how do you know that what he is doing is not an already-published version? The only answer is that you can't know; you just trying to sound expert on something you probably know little about.

  • Ricky Jay would never do something like this in real life. This segment is just a scene from a program dedicated to Jay and his interest in perfromers/con artists.

In the original program this segment was prefaced with a short intervirew with David Mamet, who talked about the impact of "correctly structured drama". All of the people you see in this clip are artists, some of which appear (and talk about Jay) in earlier segments.

  • EXceLENT acting and a fantastic magician..

  • who would want to play a hustler like that?

  • i fucking hate people who change the rules when im doing a trick or a force

    " ok say stop"

    "stop"

    "ok take this card"

".....but i want to take the other card"

    "...fuck you"

  • @TheAplombMan One time I was doing a force and the guy asked "Can I have two cards?"

  • @TheAplombMan - Probably you're not good in forcing cards or doing magic tricks!!! If you were people would listen to what you tell them... If people try to chenge the rules of the game it's your fault so you have not to criticise them, but you must study more how to controll your audience!!!

  • @Stede90 check out my vids plz i always like critics

  • @TheAplombMan I usually just say "Ok, then take the other card." And I give them the card I was forcing instead. It's a quite obvious move, but if it's done quickly they won't notice. Or I tease them ("Whoa! Are you always this bossy?") or I go into another routine with an unforced card.

@Stede90 I'd like to learn about those things as well. Do you have any idea where to find these kind of techniques? Misdirection, audience control,...

BTW sorry to answer an old post like that :P

  • wow. I never knew Ricky Jay was a good actor.

  • He's putting the attitude on because that's what a hustler has to do i guess. Play a role, be in control, don't let the mark have control. That's how winning is done :)

  • hahaha

  • He is acting. Great performance

  • it wasn't so difficult to understand

  • Geez...

  • He may be acting in this, but from what I hear, he can really be like this... He doesn't sound like the nicest guy around, but he is brilliant with a deck of cards! (not to mention, the English language)

  • @tardiojoe read the title, a correctly structured Drama, meaning acting. He was acting. I'm sure the people got their money back

  • @MrMacgeek1 I read the title. I'm just saying that he can really be like this. A friend of mine once asked him if he could get a picture with him. His reaction was less than polite. It was similar to his "acting" in this video. Others have had similar stories... He is a GREAT magician & a good actor, tho..

  • @tardiojoe Yes I'm sure he could be like this. I'm just saying that this particular event was all acting.

  • How is he doing this if he lets the other dude shuffle

  • whats with the attitude

  • @ROTINPIECES he is acting... its apart of the scam

  • @ROTINPIECES It's a correctly structured drama. So I am guessing a LOT of acting involved.

  • Get 'em! Sick 'em! bite his leg off!!! :))

  • That Peter pissed me off too. Don't know if Jay was over acting or REALLY that pissed off with that fucko.

  • it was really cool.. not only the card trick but his acting was cool like he was 100 percent serious i love it, man shame he doesnt play poker would be fun to watch him..

  • Ricky-how much you gonna put up

    Peter- 20 dollars

Ricky-GET ME SOME ONE WITH SOME MONEY

    lolololololololololololololololol

    hilarious

  • lol wtf is he acting, the video description says that this is a different side of ricky jay

  • That 1st person is so anoying, i wud of hit him

  • This is a pretty simple con. It depends on the order of who deals and what cards are in the 10 cards. Which of course the magician always knows.

  • it's a card trick in the spirit of non-transitive

dice (i.e. a game with two distinct dice, where the 2nd player can always choose a die that will trump the 1st).

what's really impressive is ricky's acting. his

hostile, anxious persona serves to utterly

    confuse the mark.

ricky is known for a being a very smooth-talking

raconteur with a fondness for speaking in

    antiquated american fashion.

  • LOL I WOULDA CRAPPED MY PANTS

  • lol Ricky Jay is getting PISSED!!!

  • PLEASE TO EVERYBODY !!!

Can someone tell me whats going on there ?

I mean why is he that angry ?

Where happend this and why ?

    Is he acting ?

  • He's acting. He's playing as an impatient conman who just wants to get things done as fast as possible and walk away with the cash.

  • i guessi just heard someone else say they met him n they said he is arrogant but not intentionally but maybe idk it is that guys opinion not mine. i love the way he does magic and i want to learn from him to me thats all that matters.

  • 10 hand poker deal only he lets the person deal the cards how? i dont get how it works if the person gets to deal

  • This is Ricky Jay temporarily taking on a conman personality, he's straight to the point, impatient and has a much more limited fuse. He wants to walk away with his money quickly and efficiently like any conman would.

  • I am seeing him in his new show in Los Angeles on the 29th. I'll bet he is incredible. I have seen 52 Assistants and On The Stem and Ricky just gets better and better!!!

  • whats his new show called?

  • It is called "A Rogue's Gallery." It is billed as "An Evening of Conversation and Performance. I hear he and David Mamet are going to try and open it on Broadway next year and these shows, and the ones in Chicago, are warm-up's to work out the bugs. The opening night is a benefit for homeless and domestic violence victims and we get to meet Ricky and have champagne and cake with him. After being onstage as a volunteer in one of last years shows I thought nothing could top that. Happy New Year!!!

  • I'll be there the same night! See you there!

  • You are a lucky person!!!

  • looks like he has some anger management. lol

  • Lol thats so funny,

    How'd he do it?

  • Lol...I enjoyed this video especially at the ending.

"There's a pair of sevens and there's a pair of nines. You lose and I'm out of here". Hilarious!

  • i have seen this some where else but i can't remember, was this written up in the pallbearers review?

  • fucking hilarious

  • i love ricky jay. i wish he had thrown the cards.

  • yea, for the first guy he should have thrown a card at him

  • then we'd have a murder case on our hands.

  • hahaha you can't just assault people. lol

  • Even if it is with pieces of paper...

  • Ricky Jay is a card and misdirection master, and is one of the most charismatic I've ever seen.

  • Yeah, nathan, he looks stupid all the way to the bank

  • God this guy is unbelieveable, he totally knows how to push someone into following his rules and won't back down to fuffil their safety zone. Ricky Jay is a pro, and to all saying hes being mean, understand he's actng, playing a role and pretending, its hustling.

  • wrt the last post.... This is ricky 'acting' like a hustler....

  • You do understand he's just playing a role?

  • @bigbruthaman

    IS he acting ?

And why is he acting ?

  • @bigbruthaman

Yeah, right up 'till his heart explodes. His breathing exhibits just how fervently absorbed in his role he is. When someone behaves like this near me in public I rarely hesitate to try calming them with a generous dose of Cartman's bear mace. *Memmur, a stun gun can seem overzealous when the EMTs need to be called.

  • Pwned.

  • its set up

  • how is it set up... he's not touching the cards, idiot...

    it's math

  • He's being rude on purpose. He's trying to pressure the guy into playing.

  • r ght,but he is way over the top,he just looks stupid

  • You have to admit though, the first guy was kind of a jackass (in a stupid sense of the word)

  • yes i supose he was,but ricky was way over the top

  • He was trying to get the guy to play. He was nicer with all the others. It's a peer pressure (as dumb as that may sound) type of thing.

  • @macattack82991 I'd be like that if i were playing Ricky Jay haha

  • "GET ME SOMEBODY WHO WANTS TO PLAY...GET SOMEBODY WITH MONEY"

lmao, this stuff is priceless. This is by far my favorite Ricky Jay video, thanks.

  • If you knew the nature of the routine you would know that the 1st was actually making it awkward BUT Ricky is playing a part for presentation

  • Why is he so mad? :(

  • lol at him

  • excellent, he is pushing the "mark" to play, and it is fantastic!!

  • A Ricky el primer jugador le rompió los esquemas

  • awesome

  • Angry Ricky!
