see 'em 20+ times live. always a joy. this just allows me to remember how amazing they are when I can't see 'em. watch 'Put It Off', surely the best Hip Song.
Swim Swim Not To me Not To him Swim Swim Swim! From Within! Swim! You Can Cross The lake! Swim! Remember Honey Remember Honey Swim! Not Because there's a six-foot dorsal fin closing in. Swim, honey! Swim. From Within You got the laminar flow You know how I know. I'll follow you in my baby blue canoe. I'm gonna support you. I'm gonna hand your lunch your breakfast and your dinner too. On a 25 foot pole of bamboo. Why? Because I don't wanna disqualify you, Baby! Swim to daddy honey. Swim!
A bad night? I don't think the hip have 'bad nights'.
Amazing performance, every time i've seen them.. and that's 7 now. Last time was at Pemberton Festival, BC, August 2008. Mountains in the background, etc.. amazing...... amazing.
@TheMease hey Man... I agree... its that sssssssssssound... that gets right down deep inside of you... I've seen them 14 times... last time was with 33,000 other HIP fans in Bobcaygeon in 2011... it was sssssssssssuper....
whaddya mean "bad night"? This is perfect, exactly what you get live...complete with Gord's diatribes. The other song they sung "It's a good life if you don't weaken" was studio-like. Gord was well behaved on that one.
I've seen Gord and the boys many times and if I had to pick a favourite song this would be it. If you get the chance they are an awesome live band. Thanks for posting, great vid!!
lawn cut by bare breasted women...gordo you effin genius. i live in buffalo ny and am so sorry for the rest of the counry not familiar with canadian music...look up sam roberts, blue rodeo, lowset of the low...
That's what I'm talkin' about! The Hip and Sam Roberts are two of my favourites. Fortunately I live 20 minutes away from Kingston, so I get to see the Hip quite a bit!
omg, the drumming in this vid is awesome. It sounds slightly slower?. amazing. That right. hes been getting reprieve from the heat in the frozen food section. Amazing line. lol
I saw them last night here in Vancouver and Gordy was in rare form. They blew the doors off the place like I knew they would. Have a good time Sept. Mattbedard.
True art in real time at every show. They are consistent and never fake. Each show Ive seen, they always give you something unrehearsed. It seems as if it's a way of making it personal for you, because you came to see a show, could be their way of saying thank you in a classy musician way. Oh and yes,....I am Canadian.........
Entirely possible of course, but I was responding to the first part of your message when you said "It's actually part of Poets," in response to someone else saying it was from Meanstreak.
Anyways, while it is possible, Gordie always just goes on about god knows what at any random time. I have many times seen him quote one song in more than a few other songs each.

Also he talks about the same topics and uses the same phrases in multiple situations a lot. For example: "Garbage bag trees", "Gripping the city, hitting the town", and he even has made reference to tall grass like things on other occasions than this (Meridian: "Wheat standing shoulder high").

At the very end the queen looks politely bemused. She should've hired the hip to play prince william's wedding - it would've more interesting.

that "shh sound of the long grass" piece during the solo is a part of one song on In Between Evolution, i can't remember which
bussingstop 5 years ago
Meanstreak i think
hipfan13 5 years ago
it's actually part of Poets. "Don't tell me what the Poet's been doing in the LONG GRASSES over time."
Could be part of IBE as well, but I think he quotes it in this song because it's in the actual lyrics.
fighterandlover 5 years ago
No, it is from Meanstreak
BDS28 5 years ago
why do you think he uses it during this song though? it's because of the long grass line in Poets Mr. Narrowminded

He doesn't do it at any random time, he does it between verses (which is decidedly not a random time -- it's a very specific time).
Just another example of the rampant misuse of the word random which currently plagues our language.

amen! I hate that word so much now, and I resent hating it because I like words! But dummies made me hate it.
