  • i think reserves are only good for getting you down alive and in one piece. i had my first cutaway over a year ago and I didn't have much of a flare on my reserve, either.

  • what jump number was that for you?

  • I had a bad line twist about 4 jumps ago....it freed itself and it was a good thing....I was forced so low into my harness I couldn't even raise my arms! If I had started to spin cutting away would have my only option.

  • Looks like you handled that quite nicely. But holy hell, you must have panicked when the reserve deployed with yet another line twist! I'm glad you pulled it through though! Keep uploading your HD wingsuit videos!

  • And in a wingsuit... Talk about the adrenalin rush on that one.

  • Damn, way to ride it out and stay calm,,VERY nice.....very impressed..

  • I wonder how many canopies Farmer McNasty gets in his field every year. lol. Good show!

  • i am not sure which farmer you are talking about since i was just visiting, but i can tell you that my canopy and freebag landed across the street there and the owner of that property actually got my canopy and me and gave me a ride back to the airport!

  • Cutaway while jumping a wingsuit... Must have been a heart racing experience... And you still unzipped the arms instead of cutting them away too... Nice Work!!!

  • cool

  • tsk tsk tsk. No PLR on landing, you were frightfully close to those powerlines too. And no offence but waiting till the last second to deply your reserve seems silly. Chances of them having a Mal are soo slim, and altitude is your friend. In my training I was told the second you have a mal, you cut away.

  • wtf thats just bloody stupid.. do u have your own rig ?? because if u did you would understand how much they are worth and if their is any chance of you kicking out of the mal then you would... dumb shit

  • i wouldnt have been so blunt about it, but you are right, i paid for my shit and i wanted to keep it, not to mention the inconvience of a cut away. i have learned after 600 jumps that i can spot a flyable malfunction immediately and i know when to let them go, this one i wanted to give my all before i considered it a loss.

  • Ya, the value of a parachute is way more than a life. And I know how much they cost too. What's with calling people "stupid?" GEEZE!

  • You must jump at Skydive San Marcos, haha. Don't come on here bashing when you reek of just-off-student-status. He did a great job of trying to clear the mal before deciding to chop.

    ...Who the fuck PLF's? Haha.

  • Well done! And keep your suit's legwing closed during all deployments! ;)

  • I had this happen to me, but on a static line student jump. I too fought with it for about 20 seconds (didnt want to pull my reserve unless i definately had to) and actually managed to save it, coming down on my main.

Got a lot of slack off my instructor though, should have cut away sooner.

  • sry for my unknow. I will have my AFF at the end of this year or jan09. for me it looks like your reserve also got a linetwist at the deploy.

in the end just managed the situation greatly i think.

  • Hey man, great vid. Do you have a Stevens Cutaway or did you just pop the reserve immediately after the cut? The landing reminds me of my first reserve... The reserves just don't seem to flare like the mains. Nice vid...

  • thanks a lot for your comment, I am jumping an older racer, and the reserve on both my cut aways had me under a full canopy within 500ft of pulling the reserve pin; and that is at subterminal. i may catch a lot of shit for having a Racer, but no other system has a faster reserve without the use of a skyhoook (or the like). As for landing, my second one was perfect, it just flies like the old f1-11 7 cells, and not like my sabre2!

  • @Brilejr lol :D very nice of him :D so u bought him a case of beer? :)

  • Reserve canopies are designed to open faster than the main canopy, also they have a spring loaded pilot chute for a quicker deployment :-)

  • How many jumps had you done before your first cutaway. Are reserve chutes designed different to main chutes to be safer?
