  • @aliceintokyo1 Erm, that is why I said *this* type. Amphetamine Logic, anyone? Amphetamine gonzoid filth, perhaps? Talk to Eldritch about finding beauty in dark unexpected places and he'll probably laugh and call you a hippy. Or, well, a goth. And then sing You Could Be The One at you. Just sayin'.

  • does Andrew have eyes?

  • I love Andrew

  • I love IT !!!!

  • This song sounds quite different on the 12". Common practice to make videos sound different, if nothing else it was assumed the speakers in the TV would be fairly crap, and you have compensate... I still wish it sounded the same.

  • Goth is not about the romance of death; bullshit. This sort of goth is about mooching around in Leeds wearing shitloads of leather whilst on shitloads of speed.

  • @NightShift Being goth has nothing to do with drugs its about about finding beauty in dark unexpected places

  • andrew has such a timeless voice, i never tire of listening to him

  • This is so sexy :)

  • One of my favourite.

    watch: youtube.com/watch?v=n8i8pP3lcAU

  • This is Andrew w/o doubt, I remember it from MTV. Those were the days!

Clubs were awesome and you could get in if you were dressed the right way from 15 yrs old. Kids are soooo deprived today!

  • Toute mon adolescence !!!

  • @DzsingisKan Actually it ends like that, maybe 1-2 sec more, really.

  • This sounds ridiculous, but is that Andrew stood with a guitar at 1:20?

It looks exactly like him, but I cannot be sure...

  • @CerebralCrisis It really does look like Andrew. I'd say it's him.

  • Great!!!!!

  • Wow, here's a S.O.M. song I haven't heard! Beautiful track--of of which album?

  • @sugarandspice4815

you can find it on "some girls wander by mistake" LP, but originaly, it is a 12' released before "first and last and always".

And yeah, I am the lucky owner of the 12' vinyl of that song ;-)

  • ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ THE SISTERS OF MERCY FOREVER!

  • Is this philosophically metaphorically to the mind-body dichotomy?

  • wooooow!!!! this is RARE!!! God given song, really.......

  • Ridiculous, really....

  • Amazing

  • Huch, sexy Video ;-)

  • I was probably the only kid in my high school listening to this... a glorious kind of loneliness... a couple of years after this came out, we would go to Respectables in West Palm and dance to Souxsie, Sisters, DM. Ah, for those lost days of swine and roses...

  • @mahalkiel Hmm we might know each other then...

  • @mahalkiel..... Listen, mate, WTF are you talking abot? If you've got something to say, just bloody well say it. All artists should! No more of this cryptic, abstract stuff that requires lateral bloody thinking!

  • I used to go out in a time when this was played in parties...what a time!

  • oh! this gourgeous song had blew my heart away same as all THE SISTERS OF MERCY SONGS i cannot believe how come a gourgeous man like andrew can make all these dreams and these beautiful feelings and then, express them through all his songs and finaly make them come true?....he can make them happen..and he definetely knows what a woman loves and desire to feel loved . i fall in love with him just as i fell in love with all THE SISTERS OF MERCY SONGS. i love you andrew and thank you.

  • My Friend Kristy, got me into Goth she went to see this band

  • wayne looks is pulling a robert smith look in this one, good times

  • Oh God, my youth !!

  • sigh, i spose the 'goth' tag came about when specimen started the batcave club in london and it all went a bit severe, bloody great times though, wouldn't change it for the world.

  • bom, muito bom

  • fantastic, timeless track...video by ??

  • Funny thing, most bands from the 80's that are classified as " Goth" , be it Sisters, Siouxie, Bauhaus and so on, don't consider themselves as such and some even will deny it ( like Robert Smith ) , nevertheless, is interesting to see how have they influenced the current Goth bands ....

  • I agree....this goth label was created in the 90's by kids that liked dark music or dark newwave bands.

  • At the time, the term "Goth" didn't really exist. All the bands you list were lumped under the "alternative" tag. There were a few pretend vampires around at the time but they were laughed at really. It was more like a tribal thing.

  • I came across the term "Goth" in the late 80s, but in my perception that was to label - or maybe insult - some sub-sub-fraction of a greater Punk/Wave/Alternative scene. When Sisters etc. were 1st generation, then the bands labelled goth were 2nd generation, so I can see why The Sisters, The Cure, etc. don't see themselves as part of it.

  • @RubenvonZwack

Back in the 70s The Damned were one of/maybe the first band to be labled as 'goth'

  • That's interesting. Of course I know The Damned, but I'm not really familiar with them.

  • @RubenvonZwack Bands of the batcave era don't even call themself gothic, just deathrock....I agree with you.

  • Deathrock, that term sounds pretty awesome to me =) In the No Time To Cry TV appearance from 1985 the host calls them "psychedelic rock". Its nice to have a variety of descriptions.

  • These bands were also called post-punk (together with Joy Division) and this is my favourite description, although i don't think music styles should be imprisoned by single terms.

  • 1985 rules! \m/

  • Back in the day, nobody called it "goth", and Emo was a comedian with a weird haircut..

  • @RisingTornado hey it still is .

ONLY DIFFERENCE when you got F****d by a guy who listened to this music , you loved every minute of it .

same if u got F****d by a girl into black clothing =D

today EMO boys are allergic to pussy .

and ARE NOT considered in our music genre ... metalheads ARE NEVER EVER THIS whiney . plus we eat P***y like a pro :)

  • @RisingTornado Your right, and I agree with you.It was called darkwave or post-punk back in that era.

  • @oramikleepunk. I'm 45 and grew up listening to these guys, Joy Division, Black Flag (saw em 4 times), The Cure, Circle Jerks, etc., etc., And the only terms used back then was Punk and New Wave (which was the more synth oriented bands). Punk or Post Punk labels are used nowadays...but back then (during the late 70's to mid 80s), the words "punk music" was often used by people who listened to the radio and/or hard rock and it was meant as a derogatory term, like a loser.

  • @RisingTornado ur absolutely right, i remember seeing SOM in 84 with Eldrtich, Wayne, Craig and the Dr. doing there last tour with the original members, wished Gary would have stayed to complete the tour but drugs and ego broke all apart. Andrew post the WAKE 84 is good but never the same. It would be like having Robert Plant without the Zeppelins. Yes, we part of the punk ROCK scene called the psychedelic underground and loved it moment. first, last and always...

  • @RisingTornado YES YES YES YES YES YES YES-GAY ASS LABELS!!!!!!!!!

  • @RisingTornado yeah back in the day it was called gothic or just rock

  • @RisingTornado we were called "Waver" referring to our "New wave" music. At least in Europe. :-)

  • @RisingTornado er, yes they did i was there

  • He has actually said that he doesn't care for being classified as "goth".

"it's disappointing that so many people have in all seriousness adopted just one of our many one-week-of-stupid-clothes benders".

    so there.

  • I agree with you...there were no goths in the 80's and early 90's.Alot of black metal singers were wearing black, but that had nothing to do with the goths of today.

  • you are utterly wrong. i grew up in the nyc scene in the early 90's, pre Nine Inch Nails destroying everything. It was a very sexy, closed, and cool scene. It was death rock. The west coasters were more Victorian. We kept it makeup velvet leather. we had limelight on tuesdays, pyramid fridays, and the bank on saturdays, not to mention michael t's ny nights mondays at pyramid, which crossed over into glam a bit. it was gorgeous and metal free til NIN taught the guidos and retards our secret

  • love love this song and this is the first time I've seen the video.....incredible

  • Goth is about the romance of death and most things dark and macabre. Emo is about suicide and crying like a bitch.

    Big difference between the 2.

  • LMAO! Emo is about sissy guys crying like a bitch for sure!!

  • @shadowgeek101 hee hee like the difference between sisters of mercy and the smiths...lol!!

  • @shadowgeek101 Sorry but I think gothic is an architectural style of the late medieval years and nothing like dark and macabre. The gothic church were built to praise god. Sorry again, maybe it's tough to realise it since you are old enogh to type on your keyboard.

  • I personally dont care for the whole goth/emo argument going on. I find labels like that just lead to limmitations to what the artist/band can do. To me its music, good music for that matter. I wouldnt say that its wrong to catergorize their music itself, but to associate cultral tendencies with it is just dumb. I am not goth or emo. I am only a young man who likes music. That is all.

    PS: Sisters of Mercy ROCK!

  • Agreed, if anything, labels prevent wonderful bands like this from being as widely heard as they should have been. The Sisters are on their own, making nothing but Merciful rock music.

  • They called this new wave in the 80's I don't know were the Gothic label came from....people need labels to live sometimes...it's lame.

  • The music is goth. They play goth rock.

The singer denies being goth (but as far as I know, agrees it's goth rock. Quite obvious duh).

That is all. You all can go home now.

  • And What the Fuck is an EMO??... I tell thee.

  • Aspergers Syndrome??? Are you sure you know what ya talking about??? Don't think so. It seems you have no idea about goths, emos, waver or whatever they're called.

  • Where can I find a man like Andrew?

  • Their not Goth,,, fuck sake.

  • Yep, he (not the band) always denied to be a goth. But sorry, he make goth music, looked like goth, always played on goth festivals and by the way... he still does.

:-)))) But of course... Sisters of Mercy are no goths. :-)))

  • I'm relatively new to the Sisiters. But of the songs i've heard I think Dominion M.R., Marian, More Ext mix, and Afterhours are the bollox :) are there any other Sisters songs like these?? Cheers.

  • all of them are good

  • The original O.G.(original goth)!

  • Los mejores Sisters!!!!!!!! Cómo mola Wayne Hussey con el pelo a lo Robert Smith. Geniales!!!!!!!!Melancolía y cajas de ritmos!!!!!!!!!!

  • Who is cooler than Eldritch? Nobody - perfekt video and great song

  • It's funny and curious to see Wayne Hussey with this almost Robert Smith hairstyle, hehehe... he looks great

  • envolvente y atmosferico,excelente.

  • I love this!

    Very Great!

  • Eldritch, Hussey, Marx, Adams. At least we got one album out of them.

  • Comment removed

  • mystical and yea this and some girls wander by mistake , takes u somewhere yesterday today and tomorrow

  • the sisters are the epitome of goth. nothing wrong with that.

  • why couldn't god have said 'and thus i created Andrew E.', what a better life it would be...

  • Wayne Hussey dies and goes to heaven. At the pearly gates, he meets up with

Gabriel, who gives him the grand tour of Heaven.

While touring, he sees many familiar faces, including Jimi Hendrix, Ian Curtis, and

Mary Shelly. And of course Nick Fiend kinda shows up once in a while...

And then he sees Andrew Eldritch sitting on a HUUUGE throne..

Wayne says to Gabriel, "I didn't know Andrew was dead!"

Gabriel replies, "Oh, that's God. He only thinks he's Andrew."

I thought it fit the comment well!

  • That made my day for the rest of my life.

  • lmao I loved the Nik Fiend showing up once in a while.

  • @fnbewts Goood one :)

  • Ok, Im not happy either, that Eldritch is bald, but the Sisters remain the Sisters.

Its not about their image, its all about their sound!!

  • Eldritch isnt bald. Ive seen footage of him circa 2008 with short hair,

  • Stop refer to goth music, they are not Goth, most according to themselfs...

  • Who gives a shite what the guy looked like??? Their music was awesome and still makes me horny. Love it.

  • " seeing him nowadays, balled, just feels like The Sisters of Mercy has lost all that gothic rock appeal"

I suppose, if you were only into them for the image and the fashion. Some of us can manage to like the music without worrying about what the band looks like.

Saw them last year, they're still awesome live.

  • It's not a matter of the image;their later material is just too metal for some tastes.

  • Its a great song, but eldritch sounds like he sucked on a helium baloon. hahahah

  • umm, dude, my friend, its nice to hear the variation..., what matters is he's still got a beat for us..

  • just beautiful

  • Great song.

I reckon Andrew Eldritch was way more appealing back in the 80's & 90's where he had all that hair, seeing him nowadays, balled, just feels like The Sisters of Mercy has lost all that gothic rock appeal, though he's still a great singer, and the bands awesome.

  • i agree the sisters lost that "thing"...but the smoke remains....;p

  • Cause he shaves his head.

They never were a 'goth rock' band anyway. Remember his very 'anti-goth' back in the 80s and today.

  • I dunno I think he looked slightly ridiculous at this stage, even for the eighties. In my opinion he looked coolest during the Floodland era.

  • You hate him because er....he got old? Well shit...

    And they're still great live!

  • Great Sisters song. Reminds me a lot of "Heart and Soul" of Joy Division. R.I.P Ian Curtis and the Dark Wave movement.........

  • great song. great band..

  • the sisters of mercy are in my body and soul.

  • Apropos, does anybody know if the Sister Psychedelic version on Peel's session have been released in cd version??

  • EP from 1984 released before First and Last and Always.Other tracks: Train, Body Electric and Afterhours.Had never seen this video though. AWESOME!! I loved it. Amazing electronic drums, Dr avalanche rules!!

I feel like i have come across some kind of relic!! tks for posting this!!

reminds me of the Psychedelic versions on Peel's sessions ,because like here, we have different music arrangements.

  • Lately I discover that this song is perfect to dance SALSA !!! Yes, if someone knows how to dance it this song is perfect to do this. Rythm of this song is perfect to enjoy salsa - dance of sex :D

  • Sisterz Eternal

  • gaaaaaaah? How did you get here? Push mrrot back out to sea

  • this song is brilliant.adams and eldrich, always awesome

  • charoulaki ever and always

  • fresko kreas to lene oi italoi sto dromo

  • Just listen and forget about everything else...such a good song!!!

  • Dude, couldn't have put it better ♥

  • R.I.Power

    Marx, Hussey, Adams, & Eldritch

  • This song is amazing!

  • Fuuuuuck! I never new this song had a video, I'd give this 6 stars if I could - bloody amazing. Great to see Gary Marx there aswell, I wonder what younger rock fans make of this, as it has no parallel in todays music scene thats for sure!

  • When the fuck ae they going to record some new stuff.

  • Weren't they supposed to release some new material in 2007?

  • Andrew's already got new stuff, he just won't put it on record...

I'm sure someone can explain it better and more thoroughly than I can, but Andrew just refuses to pu up with record labels & etc., so all new material is released live, because the profits from concerts vastly outweigh record sales. Look around for bootlegs, but don't expect an official record any time soon...

  • "..the profits from concerts vastly outweigh record sales.."

    Are you totally mad?

  • I must be, because, no, I never read that in numerous places...Ever. Never. I totally made it up to be cool. You know, all the cool Sisters fans think they know everything, and anyone who may have heard innacurrate things must be some sort of mentally invalid.

  • This song truly is devastatingly perfect. Deep, dark, and emotionally riveting...Andrew's voice and the guitars...oh man...perfection...

  • I agree.

  • All your hidden faces your seven veils unfold give me forbidden places all your tales untold...........

  • I love this song....

  • It's the greatest song of all times!! I love it so much. I've finally found it. It's so deep...

  • Beautiful song, hot ass man!! Hello!! Sisters Rock!! Welcome to the "roots" of darkness---

  • Yes.

  • EPIC!!!!!!!!

  • I can't tell how many times I heard this song when I was a teen... I had all their EPs and loved them!

  • G Marx, W. Hussey, C. Adams, A. Elritch

    -Sisters Eternal

  • G Marx, W. Hussey, C. Adams, A. Elritch

    -Sisters Eternal

  • this song has a vulnerability behind it that I dont hear in any of the others...not even marian..

  • "yesterday... today... tomorrow" isn't it?

  • Well said

  • If there is anyone on this planet that doesn't think this is hot as hell, I truly don't understand them.

  • great song of 80's

  • andy has a strange sense of humor,every1 knows that

  • Funny thing is, Andrew makes songs like these with a music video like this, then he acts likes he's in a stupor of why anyone would call Sisters of Mercy a 'Goth Rock' band. I wonder if for ten years a lead singer of a grunge band kept playing grunge songs and kept the look and appearance of a grunge band, then walks onto the stage one day and asks why no one calls his band a Punk band, it wouldn't make any sense either, right Andrew?

  • Hehe I completely agree with you. I've read somewhere that Ronny Moorings (Clan of xymox) embraced the "gothic rock band" label sinced it helped them sell CDs. Good for them! On the other hand, we have Andrew who says that everything he ever did is not "gothic rock"? Come on!

  • they must be called Dark, Post-punk, other names are stupid. Bowie is great cause doesn´t have brands. A exemple is the band INTERPOL, wich is successful cause didn´t let the name goth have associations. But in the end, The Sisters are the best goth band.
