Alan Gibson=money grabber. Why on earth would you sell dvds depicting Wing Chun what you supposedly practice and then teach a completely different Wing Chun? Money grabbing. 'nuff said. kisses.
Have you even trained with him? or discussed how and why he changed lineage? no, you make assumptions & spread malicious rumor, If you had done either of these things you would understand the lack of truth in your comment.
The main problem with Mr Gibson is his interpretation of Ving Tsun is infact very different to the Ving Tsun he displays on his DVD's. The Forms depicted on his "Wing Chun Forms" DVD are totally different to the Forms he himself practices, and it could also be argued that they are infact "non-WSL VT" which Mr Gibson is so well known for be associated with.
The reason wing chun is like it is today as there is to much money being made and not enough decent people doing it, list of bad wing chun people- austin goh, alan gibson, wsl, austin goh thinks its karate, wsl thinks it a wrestling match, alan gibson thinks strongest man wins in chi sao, guess what there all wrong.
It's funny how people listen to some phony British accent and automatically think it is 'authoritative' where in fact it is, as the Brits would say, total rubbish! BTW, who is WSL? It can't be THE WSL because he's dead!
I can assure you that is his real voice and he is born & raised British, WSL is a well known and respected student of Ip Man, if you dont understand the concept ot a lineage within kung fu then you really shouldnt be commenting on it.
i agree, jirking movements?? wtf? it like wrestling in his wing chun, the hardest, strongest wins. thats bad wing chun. no jirking movements , that real shit chi sao. how are you supposed to feel when there is so much jirking and un controlled sloppyness.
Just a quick extra note for ppl considering getting this. I've watched it about fifty times now and i'm still getting new concepts from it! If your new to wing chun like me (just over 1yr) theres heaps to gather from this dvd. Cant wait for alan and his teams next vid :) hopefully i'll get to say hello to them at seni2008
just ordered this myself - will post thoughts on it when I've watched it but anything by Alan Gibson is going to be good - his other wing chun material is amazing.
Yes I do mate, I think DVDs are good to get an idea of what you are looking for, but in my opinion you have to train regularly with a GOOD instructor.
The reason I don't rate this DVD and many others, and I don't hold any grudges with Mr Gibson or anyone, but Wing Chun has a bad name because it has been left behind, it hasn't evolved into our modern age, unlike many other traditional arts.
I think Wing Chun is a very effective art and must be trained Traditionally (forms and drills) and with a modern approach to self defence/ street protection. Just look at any other street defence art, take KFM for example, and you will see many of these DVDs are kidding themselves.
Look at Michael Wong, James Sinclair, Alan Orr, these guys are on the right track.
Sorry to rant on but if Wing Chun is continually practiced like Tai-Chi or a sport it will die out as a failure.
thanks John thats some good info and food for thought there :) I've seen some of Michael Wong's videos - they're really cool and I really like Alan Orr's stuff too - as you said they're pushing it further and in newer directions :) thanks for your thoughts :) ant

Too much time wasted in the intro, although is fair to give credit to whom deserves it, I would've liked to see more of the DVD.

Buy the dvd then
wongshunleung 4 years ago
My doubts have already been answered by Master Gibson himself. Already ordered.
If you promote a product is only fair for me to ask you for more info before I spend any amount of money.
You must have extra money to spend without evaluating what you are going to buy.
Amusing comment, by the way!
