@sirvinylot Look her up on you tube, thats Rosalie Sorrels. A real folkie folker that had a tough life. Ian and Sylvia were much hipper and less country. Rosalie was a very kind and corny hippie sort of women. Man, you tube say's I wrote that comment 2 months ago, but it had to 6 to 8 months ago at least. Anyway, I'm pretty sure Sylvia Tyson was Joan Baez's sister. They were just great, some of their stuff was kind of freak folk psychedelic. A real plus in my opinion......
@2mandolin Regarding Sylvia Tyson, no, she is not Joan Baez's sister. That was Mimi Farina, who was famous in her own right. In my opinion I liked Mimi much more than Joan. She died from cancer about ten years ago. She had been married to Richard Farina, a singer/songwriter/author who died very young in a motorcycle crash. (I think Mimi was only 21, and they had only been married a few years.)
@karinablacktie You're absolutely right. My memory is fading.......... Thank You, and Richard had written a book, if I recall at least that much.......
@2mandolin Yes, Richard wrote "Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up to Me," which is positively delightful and a very funny piece of fiction. He died a few days after its publication, and after a book signing. He had accepted a ride with a friend on the friend's motorcycle. Richard had just been fighting with Mimi because he hadn't given her a birthday gift, although he had actually had flowers sent to their house while they were at the book signing. A tragedy of Shakespearean grandeur.
"He is playing an EKO Ranger acousitc ... I have one and its an awesome guitar ... Page and Hendrix also played EKO's ... my friend the co-founder of MTV will be a guitar dealer for EKO at his new artist music site of thetapmusic dot u know... tell him i sent cha!" Danny Nova
Lest anyone forget, there were 3 "Woodstock '99" major events. Most promoted was the larger commercial mess mentioned by a few others here. There was also a smaller commercial event run by Alan Gerry on the rear of Yasgur's Farm, and the Wanna Party Party political rally (since the Bethel, NY mass gathering ordinance and court order banned a concert on the front of Yasgur's Farm then owned by Roy & Jeryl), where over 60 bands performed for free and culture was revisited by old and young.
listening to bobby play, he is almost always a beat or two ahead of the group, leading the way, turning the page, with his phrasing...i am looking for an explanation of the st. stephen that the dead performed at woodstock, in that it cuts out after the first verse--what happened in real time at the concert, if anything, or is it just a flaw in the tape or recording that has come down to us?
if anyone knows i would greatly appreciate some insight...thanks in advance.
yes, that is Rosalie Sorrels. I sent her a copy of this short video 2 years ago. She lives in Idaho. I think I see David Bromberg on guitar at the very end with dark glasses...
i was able to download some garcia from his pre dead days and if one listened to it, it would be no surprise to find that american beauty and workingman's dead were no great departures for the group, but a return to their roots. it is evident, even in aoxomoxoa, experimental as it is in some regards (in both of its incarnations), that the music was tending towards its roots and drawing its strength from tradition as much as exploration.
how is jerry so fucking underrated???not on rs topten what a joke !ya they were sucked at makein records.but they r the biggest live act to have ever toured out of any band!!!!!
@TheYankees2300 They sucked at making records? Are you serious? Ever heard American Beauty? Wake of the Flood? Shakedown Street? Terrapin Station? In The Dark? Need I go on? I agree their live stuff was stellar, but come on dude. Plus, it shows how great they were at making records that they put out live albums. Live Dead, Reckoning, Europe 72, just to name a few of my favs. They may not be studio albums, but technically they are records and the Dead made em, lol.
I've never heard of Rosalie Sorrels, so I don't know. But I can tell you one thing for certain. The woman in the video is NOT Mimi Farina. Doesn't sound like her, and absofuckinglutely does not look like her even a little bit. I don't know Melanie's voice that much. I don't think this woman sounds like her. And from photos, it looks like Melanie had Full Pouty Lips(tm) which this woman does not.
One person I'm sure it is NOT is Mimi Farina. Unless she had herself surgically altered with a protruding jawline and an overbite, and dropped her lilting soprano in favor of a western drawl.

ye there is gonna be 2 woodstocks this summer, do to the 40th aniversary, one is going to be in new york , 14th of august i believe, and a week later another woodstock will happen in berlin, i am deff goin, alot of the original bands from 69' will atend
@xojbabyxo I doubt that after the 'epic fail' that was Woodstock '99 with the rapes, fires, assaults, destruction of property, violence, riots...I doubt they'll do another Woodstock, people in '99 ruined it forever.
good observation but it goes a lot deeper than '99 - the youth of today have no unity of purpose like young people did in '69 - you get 500k young people together today, you might as well call it a riot - why? - because The Man has infected us with fear - there was no fear in '69 - for a moment in time the youth of america realized THEY had the power - nowadays, people are conformists from the day they're born, or else they get ostracized - it's pitiful and sad; it's death
@turbocattom I'm positive it is not Mimi Baez Farina in this clip! The character of the voice and the brief facial views are pretty conclusive that it is Sylvia Fricker who sang with Ian Tyson!
Al Gore is a hypocritical bastard who is also the biggest energy consumer in America. The only reason he did all that shit is because he is so egotistical that he needed to get himself back into the spotlight somehow.
im reading tom wolfes electric kool-aid acid test and its amazing! :).
anyone wanna relate or just want to throw some kinda put-down "opinion" on me go for it but I know where i'm heading and there's no way you can offend me. All I hope for to do is take yourself and gather your thoughts whereever they may be and take yourself seriously.
The only uncool thing about that book is that Tom Wolfe never even dropped acid and he didn't even ride the bus. You should read One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest to see how cool Ken Kesey really is. Anything by Hunter S. Thompson too.
Ok,i give up, is that Rosalie Sorrels or Mimi Farina singing? Wikipedia show a photo of Rosalie, who is still living, and she sure looks like the lady singing in the video. Any expert opinions out there?
It's Rosalie. I'm the one who posted the vid and David B emailed me to tell me it was Rosalie. Check out the very first comment on this vid to see for yourself. If you know how to contact Rosalie, let her know this vid is up. Thanks, Greg
LoneConformist, you need to take your Zanax. We (ex)Hippies were simply pissed off that we busted our asses in school only to be drafted and sent to kill people we had absolutely no freakin quarrel with. Woodstock was our time to come together and voice our opinion about it as a culture. At least we changed the world into a different way of thinking (and then invented the computer so you could voice yours).
Mimi Baez Fariña (born Margarita Mimi Baez, April 30, 1945 -- July 18, 2001) was a singer, songwriter, and activist. She was the daughter of physicist Albert Baez and sister of folk singer Joan Baez.
jerry was such a sweet soul, i cryed when he died, im 19 whent to a dead show in 93 i was 5 years old and my dad put me up on his shoulders and iseen jerry live in canada and man! such energy to feel as a child the spiritual bound of the live show the people as one, damn i mis himm badly i may be a young deadhead but i know waht its all about man believe me!
FasterThanYou is right. It's well-known now that the whole hippie experiment was a government psy-op... THEY were the ones pushing LSD through the counterculture. The whole psychiatric/drug/hippie culture was totally Jewish. Better consumers, better zombies.
It makes me laugh that hippies think they're rebels. Rebels against what? The "republicans," who are occultists? Witches consecrate the ground at Bohemian Grove. The devil is everywhere now, so while you're winning, you're no rebels.
The dope and the headonist life-style eventually Jerry him in. Same for Janis, Jim, Keith, Jimmi.....Crosby wised up before it had a chance to take its toll. The liver transplant helped a bit too.
If you go all the way back to the beginning of the comments, you'll find a post from David Bromberg himself, saying that it's Rosalie Sorrels and NOT Mimi Farina.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It's a fact that Jerry Garcia lost all function in his penis due to drug use by 1973. So for the rest of his life all he accomplished was ingesting drugs and making bad music.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I bet a retarded elf could make better music than Jerry Garcia. His music only sounds good if you're stoned on LSD and marijuana. Even LSD alone is not good enough. It has to be both LSD and marijuana.
Garcia was a fraud his entire career. Nobody who wasn't stoned thought his music was good, but people felt sorry for him and never said anything.
It's like when Stevie Wonder goes on and on for way too long with a performance - nobody says anything because they are polite. It's like that.
In technical terms Jerry Garcia was a superb musician who just LIVED for music. Add his creativity to that and you have a GREAT Rock musician. The best of his era.
dude ur false man... i havent listend to a single grateful dead cd high on anything and i think they are an amazing band...ur just an ignorant fuck but u know this doesnt matter its just youtube
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Dude - It was Garcia who lived on hate. You think he didn't relish knowing that he was corrupting thousands of lives? Sentencing thousands of small-minded losers to a lifetime of drug use and unfulfilled potential? A lifetime of stocking shelves at Wal-Mart?
Garcia was the Devil. I dont have hate. Only opinions.
There's a dude at my local Kroger's who stocks shelves with a pair of headphones on. He's at least 50 years old. He has hair down to his ass. He is a victim of the Satan Garcia.
LMFAO! you truly are a wanker. honestly, you don't think he appreciated everyone who showed up at the shows? every single one i bet he was thankful for. i know i would be. satan Garcia. lmfao. every band has groupies. the grateful dead were such magic that they happened to have hundreds of thousands.
Garcia was the devil? i thought Satan was the devil, but mr know it all over here thinks that a guitar player who makes more money than he does is the devil. wow you reeally prooved the bible and most of the biblical community worng
do u really have such a pathetic life that you have to plague the message boards of youtube videos about great people from the sixties and mock them. If we wanted to listen to ur advice then we'd ask you for it. Just let people enjoy the music man. why dont u freak out on it yourself.
dude i don't think he made anyone do anything, he just knew how to have a goodtime. He had a skill that not many possess and he got paid for it, that was his job. just because your buddy at walmart listens to jerry desn't mean jerry is the devil. you're probably the kind of creep that shot john lennon because he was more popular then jesus, get over yourself and your self-fabricated feeling of righteousness.

@xojbabyxo I doubt that after the 'epic fail' that was Woodstock '99 with the rapes, fires, assaults, destruction of property, violence, riots...I doubt they'll do another Woodstock, people in '99 ruined it forever.
MarcoGreenberg 1 year ago 2
@MarcoGreenberg
good observation but it goes a lot deeper than '99 - the youth of today have no unity of purpose like young people did in '69 - you get 500k young people together today, you might as well call it a riot - why? - because The Man has infected us with fear - there was no fear in '69 - for a moment in time the youth of america realized THEY had the power - nowadays, people are conformists from the day they're born, or else they get ostracized - it's pitiful and sad; it's death

It's Rosalie Sorrels. Her voice is unmistakable. Google her!
turbocattom 3 years ago
@turbocattom I'm positive it is not Mimi Baez Farina in this clip! The character of the voice and the brief facial views are pretty conclusive that it is Sylvia Fricker who sang with Ian Tyson!

Al Gore is a hypocritical bastard who is also the biggest energy consumer in America. The only reason he did all that shit is because he is so egotistical that he needed to get himself back into the spotlight somehow.

Apologize to Rosalie for me if you see her. I posted earlier I thought it was Mimi Farina, Joan's sister. I meant it as a compliment.

im reading tom wolfes electric kool-aid acid test and its amazing! :).
anyone wanna relate or just want to throw some kinda put-down "opinion" on me go for it but I know where i'm heading and there's no way you can offend me. All I hope for to do is take yourself and gather your thoughts whereever they may be and take yourself seriously.
Thebeefypig 3 years ago
The only uncool thing about that book is that Tom Wolfe never even dropped acid and he didn't even ride the bus. You should read One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest to see how cool Ken Kesey really is. Anything by Hunter S. Thompson too.

Ok,i give up, is that Rosalie Sorrels or Mimi Farina singing? Wikipedia show a photo of Rosalie, who is still living, and she sure looks like the lady singing in the video. Any expert opinions out there?
monstersdoexist 3 years ago
It's Rosalie. I'm the one who posted the vid and David B emailed me to tell me it was Rosalie. Check out the very first comment on this vid to see for yourself. If you know how to contact Rosalie, let her know this vid is up. Thanks, Greg

LoneConformist, you need to take your Zanax. We (ex)Hippies were simply pissed off that we busted our asses in school only to be drafted and sent to kill people we had absolutely no freakin quarrel with. Woodstock was our time to come together and voice our opinion about it as a culture. At least we changed the world into a different way of thinking (and then invented the computer so you could voice yours).
monstersdoexist 3 years ago
Mimi Baez Fariña (born Margarita Mimi Baez, April 30, 1945 -- July 18, 2001) was a singer, songwriter, and activist. She was the daughter of physicist Albert Baez and sister of folk singer Joan Baez.

Fortunately they bought some Harleys. No other one in the whole wide world would have done this time.

LoneConformist 3 years ago
The dope and the headonist life-style eventually Jerry him in. Same for Janis, Jim, Keith, Jimmi.....Crosby wised up before it had a chance to take its toll. The liver transplant helped a bit too.

The female singer is Rosalie Sorrels, who turned 75 last month in Idaho.

Actually, It's Mimi Farina, who is Joan Baez's sister. David Bromberg is the other guitar player

If you go all the way back to the beginning of the comments, you'll find a post from David Bromberg himself, saying that it's Rosalie Sorrels and NOT Mimi Farina.

It's a fact that Jerry Garcia lost all function in his penis due to drug use by 1973. So for the rest of his life all he accomplished was ingesting drugs and making bad music.
FasterThanYou321 3 years ago
its interesting that you spend your time on facts about Jerry's penis. Fucking moron.

FasterThanYou321 3 years ago
In technical terms Jerry Garcia was a superb musician who just LIVED for music. Add his creativity to that and you have a GREAT Rock musician. The best of his era.

He is a victim of the Satan Garcia.

do u really have such a pathetic life that you have to plague the message boards of youtube videos about great people from the sixties and mock them.
