  • 22 dislikes ?!? what is to dislike about this? some personal footage of Jerry Garcia playing the guitar at Woodstock 1969 .. you probably would also dislike the landing on the moon footage of July 20, 1969 ...

  • absolutely beautiful

  • Jerry was so awesome

  • wow i never seen this clip before! thanks for the love!!

  • Who's the lady with the big chin?

  • The way the dobro finished that up sounded very rehearsed. I would venture to say that Bromberg was probably playing gigs with Rosalie at the time.

  • That's Rosalie sorrels. A wonderful lady.........

  • @2mandolin This looks and sounds liker Sylvia Tyson to me.

  • @sirvinylot Look her up on you tube, thats Rosalie Sorrels. A real folkie folker that had a tough life. Ian and Sylvia were much hipper and less country. Rosalie was a very kind and corny hippie sort of women. Man, you tube say's I wrote that comment 2 months ago, but it had to 6 to 8 months ago at least. Anyway, I'm pretty sure Sylvia Tyson was Joan Baez's sister. They were just great, some of their stuff was kind of freak folk psychedelic. A real plus in my opinion......

  • @2mandolin Regarding Sylvia Tyson, no, she is not Joan Baez's sister. That was Mimi Farina, who was famous in her own right. In my opinion I liked Mimi much more than Joan. She died from cancer about ten years ago. She had been married to Richard Farina, a singer/songwriter/author who died very young in a motorcycle crash. (I think Mimi was only 21, and they had only been married a few years.)

  • @karinablacktie You're absolutely right. My memory is fading.......... Thank You, and Richard had written a book, if I recall at least that much.......

  • @2mandolin Yes, Richard wrote "Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up to Me," which is positively delightful and a very funny piece of fiction. He died a few days after its publication, and after a book signing. He had accepted a ride with a friend on the friend's motorcycle. Richard had just been fighting with Mimi because he hadn't given her a birthday gift, although he had actually had flowers sent to their house while they were at the book signing. A tragedy of Shakespearean grandeur.

  • I wish Jerry would have collaborated with Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson before Alan died. Both Woodstock vets and unbelieveable musicians.

  • jerry is the man. but i hate that chicks voice...

  • @bryanthcin She was bad then - you should hear her now, pure ear pain.

  • "He is playing an EKO Ranger acousitc ... I have one and its an awesome guitar ... Page and Hendrix also played EKO's ... my friend the co-founder of MTV will be a guitar dealer for EKO at his new artist music site of thetapmusic dot u know... tell him i sent cha!" Danny Nova

  • Lest anyone forget, there were 3 "Woodstock '99" major events. Most promoted was the larger commercial mess mentioned by a few others here. There was also a smaller commercial event run by Alan Gerry on the rear of Yasgur's Farm, and the Wanna Party Party political rally (since the Bethel, NY mass gathering ordinance and court order banned a concert on the front of Yasgur's Farm then owned by Roy & Jeryl), where over 60 bands performed for free and culture was revisited by old and young.

  • what a load of crap

  • What a vocalist.

  • Gotcha 3cho613. my bad! I didnt mean to direct that energy your way. ;)

  • The beautiful Rosalie Sorrels!

  • That song is gay!!

  • listening to bobby play, he is almost always a beat or two ahead of the group, leading the way, turning the page, with his phrasing...i am looking for an explanation of the st. stephen that the dead performed at woodstock, in that it cuts out after the first verse--what happened in real time at the concert, if anything, or is it just a flaw in the tape or recording that has come down to us?

if anyone knows i would greatly appreciate some insight...thanks in advance.

  • @geekorthodox9 Thats the exact thing that got him kicked out of the Dead for a period of time.

  • @geekorthodox9 Thats the exact thing that got him kicked out of the Dead for a period of time.

  • @geekorthodox9 Thats why he got he got kicked out of the band for a period of time. He couldnt keep time with everyone else.

  • What is the source of this footage--home movie?

  • I'd like to drive an icepick through Joan Baez's skull.

  • @mharrin5507 damn dude! why?

  • Thats Tim Hardin ojn the left i think too ,he was on the bill at Woodstock too.

  • @longlivejerryg Ha! good catch! That's Bobby alright, receiving yet another lesson from the master.

  • yes, that is Rosalie Sorrels. I sent her a copy of this short video 2 years ago. She lives in Idaho. I think I see David Bromberg on guitar at the very end with dark glasses...

  • Is that lady Rosalie Sorrels?

  • I wonder if Lady Gaga jams with her fans backstage.

  • @HigherPlanes Haha.....musicians seem just about gone these days but Lady actually plays piano well.

  • The king of all hippies jamming with hippies backstage at Woodstock. What a groovefest.

  • there's a young Bobby standing next to Jerry

  • @longlivejerryg good catch. thats him alright

  • @longlivejerryg good catch. thats him alright

  • i was able to download some garcia from his pre dead days and if one listened to it, it would be no surprise to find that american beauty and workingman's dead were no great departures for the group, but a return to their roots. it is evident, even in aoxomoxoa, experimental as it is in some regards (in both of its incarnations), that the music was tending towards its roots and drawing its strength from tradition as much as exploration.

  • Man i wish i had those awesome campfire skills

  • mimi Farina singing if I coudl be the rain, and to is raining.

    they say

Itr is getting wet, and split! golden days

  • WOW-This Music Is Alot Better Than What I Do:)

  • Think ill go roll one up right now for jerry!

  • @megadankk Great idea. Mine is already rolled though, so i'll dedicate it to Jerry.

  • I miss THE DEADHEADS!

  • how is jerry so fucking underrated???not on rs topten what a joke !ya they were sucked at makein records.but they r the biggest live act to have ever toured out of any band!!!!!

  • @TheYankees2300 They sucked at making records? Are you serious? Ever heard American Beauty? Wake of the Flood? Shakedown Street? Terrapin Station? In The Dark? Need I go on? I agree their live stuff was stellar, but come on dude. Plus, it shows how great they were at making records that they put out live albums. Live Dead, Reckoning, Europe 72, just to name a few of my favs. They may not be studio albums, but technically they are records and the Dead made em, lol.

  • @3cho613 No!!! Dont be a hater!

  • @jambandfreak1 I wasn't hating. the opposite. The yankees said they sucked at making records.

  • @3cho613 No!!! Dont be a hater!

  • never seen this before. more please.

  • @moriluk check it out. look up shit on google. its good stuff man.

  • @moriluk

  • if I could be the rain I would always be wet,

  • "If I Could Be The Rain" by Rosalie Sorrels

  • Originally by Utah Phillips

  • You have some great stuff! Thanks. Seeing Jerry there was cool.

  • that is definitely not mimi farina..she does NOT have a chin like that..lol

  • Look at the last few frames when you see her face. I'm sure that's Sylvia Tyson.

  • Cayo...: judging by the the voice and face, my guess is Rosalie Sorrels.

  • SUMMERTIME by A BAND CALLED BERT

  • I thought the exact same thing when I first heard the singing haha

  • sixties vibe ! Words of MICHAEL BOWEN ! 2012 the song (Harry Loco)

    for EVERYONE to understand

  • Great times and memories.

    Woodstock had it all.

It is a part of history but Woodstock is alive today.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • And also Garcia at Altamont -"Gimmie Shelter" -it's Jerry and the X-Files.

  • Scrotebags galore!!!!! Yippie Hippie!

  • no. not even close

  • Joan Baez

  • I've never heard of Rosalie Sorrels, so I don't know. But I can tell you one thing for certain. The woman in the video is NOT Mimi Farina. Doesn't sound like her, and absofuckinglutely does not look like her even a little bit. Everyone that is saying with authority that its Mimi needs to go look at a few pictures of her and listen to some of her music. C'mon. Do yer homework.

  • I reviewed quite a few videos of her work since reading your blurb, and I say it is definately Mimi.

  • Well, I just looked into Rosalie Sorrels, and she sure looks and sounds just like the woman in the video. Maybe you could link to some specific videos of Mimi that you think look and sound like this woman. I'd like to check them out.

  • Isn't it Melanie Safka?

  • I checked out some music and photos of this Rosalie Sorrels person, and its either her or her long lost twin.

I don't know Melanie's voice that much. I don't think this woman sounds like her. And from photos, it looks like Melanie had Full Pouty Lips(tm) which this woman does not.

One person I'm sure it is NOT is Mimi Farina. Unless she had herself surgically altered with a protruding jawline and an overbite, and dropped her lilting soprano in favor of a western drawl.

  • I Thought it was Joan Baez

  • If anybody cares that's David Bromberg playing with him.Jerry was an excellent guitar player sweet leads Jam Band master

  • Oh boy, Thats AWSOME!!! I never knew that one exsisted.

  • i dont know if jerry played too much mandolin, it was David Grismon who was the mandolin player. He also isnt a guitarist or a singer he is a musician. there is a difference. i know a lot of people who play guitar with no creativity at all and sound really "guitar pro"ish if you know what i mean

  • no.

  • LOL

  • Rosalie Sorrels sings. Song by Utah Phillips.

  • aww wish it were longer

  • bob weir is so cool.

his rhythm guitar work really is revolutionary in a way that is rarely recognized in the same way that jerry's craft was and is.

    pure genius.

  • You are correct!

  • Bob Weir was Jerry's shoe shine boy, Bob is just lucky to have had met someone who actually had talent

  • Show me one of Bobby's bad days, i have never seen one, you don't play the guitar do you?

  • Hey Horsehummper

    Like your name...Fits ya.

  • jerry was just an amazing artist not just guitar player or singer. have you ever seen his visual art?? it is amazing!!! and he also could play banjo and mandolin and was by far the most philosophically articulate out of all the musicians or artists from the 60's. i think we owe more to jerry than we know. and he had a heart of gold despite what personal demons he may have battled with. he was a true artist in every sense of the word

  • well, firstly, i was talking about bob weir, not jerry (hence the talk about rhythm guitar.) nonetheless, i agree with you, and am aware of all that you said. and his visual art is pretty good. likewise, he was and will always remain an innovator, idol, and a great artist.

  • right on bruhtha.

  • That gets more amazing every time I hear it. There was just no one like ol' Jer....

  • marijuana dead

  • how am i supposed to respond to that

  • cananyone please post a version of "days between" for me I would be so grateful.

  • Come on folks, this is Rosalie Sorrels. For God's sake, do a little research.

  • It sure ain't Joan Baez!

  • assholes...mimi was awesome...she died several years back but what a folkie! Very respected!!

  • MARIJUANA EXIBIT A

  • 40th reunion of Woodstock should be coming soon I hope!

  • It is! I think its in Illinois this year. It should be pretty big! Me and my friends have already decided were going.

  • Illinois??!?!? Woodstock, New York would be better

I'm willing to go depending on the line up. But it should be great.

  • ye there is gonna be 2 woodstocks this summer, do to the 40th aniversary, one is going to be in new york , 14th of august i believe, and a week later another woodstock will happen in berlin, i am deff goin, alot of the original bands from 69' will atend

  • @xojbabyxo I doubt that after the 'epic fail' that was Woodstock '99 with the rapes, fires, assaults, destruction of property, violence, riots...I doubt they'll do another Woodstock, people in '99 ruined it forever.

  • @MarcoGreenberg

good observation but it goes a lot deeper than '99 - the youth of today have no unity of purpose like young people did in '69 - you get 500k young people together today, you might as well call it a riot - why? - because The Man has infected us with fear - there was no fear in '69 - for a moment in time the youth of america realized THEY had the power - nowadays, people are conformists from the day they're born, or else they get ostracized - it's pitiful and sad; it's death

  • It's Rosalie Sorrels. Her voice is unmistakable. Google her!

  • @turbocattom I'm positive it is not Mimi Baez Farina in this clip! The character of the voice and the brief facial views are pretty conclusive that it is Sylvia Fricker who sang with Ian Tyson!

  • lol, no no ! it' s somebody who had did a jam with jerry garcia during woodstock festival, that' all. incredible 60's....

  • could have been janis joplin you never know

  • Well... it clearly isn't because the voice isn't really much like Janis's at all

  • It's Mimi Farina who is the sister of Joan Baez

  • It is Mimi Farina

  • i believe its Mimi Farina (Joan Baez' sister)

  • Jerster!

  • Anyone know the name of this song?

  • If i could be the rain.

  • youtube "blue siberia" wow!! trippy acoustic song with amazing kaleidoscope.

  • Al Gore is a hypocritical bastard who is also the biggest energy consumer in America. The only reason he did all that shit is because he is so egotistical that he needed to get himself back into the spotlight somehow.

  • Wow, this is old school.

  • Ah Mimi, ah Jerry!

  • he is probably at a computer right now writing about how awesome he is.

    ManBearPig

  • Apologize to Rosalie for me if you see her. I posted earlier I thought it was Mimi Farina, Joan's sister. I meant it as a compliment.

  • i cant stand her singing...but dam i love jerry

  • it IS getting wet, lets all go to a place where the wetness is not.

  • yes, finally

  • im reading tom wolfes electric kool-aid acid test and its amazing! :).

anyone wanna relate or just want to throw some kinda put-down "opinion" on me go for it but I know where i'm heading and there's no way you can offend me. All I hope for to do is take yourself and gather your thoughts whereever they may be and take yourself seriously.

  • The only uncool thing about that book is that Tom Wolfe never even dropped acid and he didn't even ride the bus. You should read One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest to see how cool Ken Kesey really is. Anything by Hunter S. Thompson too.

  • read the rum diary, the doors of perception, acid dreams and fear and loathing my friend

  • very nice obscure post from Jerry at Woodstock.

Three days of love, peace, and happiness.

    Unlike all these STUPID posts.

If you don't know what UP,

    Put it DOWN!!!

  • Ok,i give up, is that Rosalie Sorrels or Mimi Farina singing? Wikipedia show a photo of Rosalie, who is still living, and she sure looks like the lady singing in the video. Any expert opinions out there?

  • It's Rosalie. I'm the one who posted the vid and David B emailed me to tell me it was Rosalie. Check out the very first comment on this vid to see for yourself. If you know how to contact Rosalie, let her know this vid is up. Thanks, Greg

  • LoneConformist, you need to take your Zanax. We (ex)Hippies were simply pissed off that we busted our asses in school only to be drafted and sent to kill people we had absolutely no freakin quarrel with. Woodstock was our time to come together and voice our opinion about it as a culture. At least we changed the world into a different way of thinking (and then invented the computer so you could voice yours).

  • Mimi Baez Fariña (born Margarita Mimi Baez, April 30, 1945 -- July 18, 2001) was a singer, songwriter, and activist. She was the daughter of physicist Albert Baez and sister of folk singer Joan Baez.

  • jerry was such a sweet soul, i cryed when he died, im 19 whent to a dead show in 93 i was 5 years old and my dad put me up on his shoulders and iseen jerry live in canada and man! such energy to feel as a child the spiritual bound of the live show the people as one, damn i mis himm badly i may be a young deadhead but i know waht its all about man believe me!

  • Fortunately they bought some Harleys. No other one in the whole wide world would have done this time.

  • FasterThanYou is right. It's well-known now that the whole hippie experiment was a government psy-op... THEY were the ones pushing LSD through the counterculture. The whole psychiatric/drug/hippie culture was totally Jewish. Better consumers, better zombies.

It makes me laugh that hippies think they're rebels. Rebels against what? The "republicans," who are occultists? Witches consecrate the ground at Bohemian Grove. The devil is everywhere now, so while you're winning, you're no rebels.

  • The dope and the headonist life-style eventually Jerry him in. Same for Janis, Jim, Keith, Jimmi.....Crosby wised up before it had a chance to take its toll. The liver transplant helped a bit too.

  • The female singer is Rosalie Sorrels, who turned 75 last month in Idaho.

  • Actually, It's Mimi Farina, who is Joan Baez's sister. David Bromberg is the other guitar player

  • I don't know who the hell it is

  • If you go all the way back to the beginning of the comments, you'll find a post from David Bromberg himself, saying that it's Rosalie Sorrels and NOT Mimi Farina.

  • Sounds like Joan Baez

  • She does sound like Joan Baez thats who I thought it was til I saw her face.

  • it sounds like janis joplin

  • No, Janis don't had that voice!

  • has to be stevie nicks singing

  • Does anybody know the female singer??

  • Lol wtf, he always did good music, and who minnds history of his penis.....

  • its interesting that you spend your time on facts about Jerry's penis. Fucking moron.

  • I bet you cant make even a few seconds of music of his callibre if you had a dozen cocks

  • In technical terms Jerry Garcia was a superb musician who just LIVED for music. Add his creativity to that and you have a GREAT Rock musician. The best of his era.

  • dude ur false man... i havent listend to a single grateful dead cd high on anything and i think they are an amazing band...ur just an ignorant fuck but u know this doesnt matter its just youtube

  • dude i totally agree with you about the ignorant jackass making fun the grateful dead he is probably a republican ass.

  • Seriously!? what the f*** does that have to do with being a republican? You must be really smart about politics...

  • I hope your no older than eleven

  • livin' on hate! what a shame........

  • We don't care if your a loser a and work at Wal-Mart.

  • LMFAO! you truly are a wanker. honestly, you don't think he appreciated everyone who showed up at the shows? every single one i bet he was thankful for. i know i would be. satan Garcia. lmfao. every band has groupies. the grateful dead were such magic that they happened to have hundreds of thousands.

  • Garcia was the devil? i thought Satan was the devil, but mr know it all over here thinks that a guitar player who makes more money than he does is the devil. wow you reeally prooved the bible and most of the biblical community worng

  • do u really have such a pathetic life that you have to plague the message boards of youtube videos about great people from the sixties and mock them. If we wanted to listen to ur advice then we'd ask you for it. Just let people enjoy the music man. why dont u freak out on it yourself.

  • Guess you see how many agree with that load of crap! Your opinions are misinformed or just wrong.

  • dude i don't think he made anyone do anything, he just knew how to have a goodtime. He had a skill that not many possess and he got paid for it, that was his job. just because your buddy at walmart listens to jerry desn't mean jerry is the devil. you're probably the kind of creep that shot john lennon because he was more popular then jesus, get over yourself and your self-fabricated feeling of righteousness.
