Testament is fuckin' sick, this sounds like a mix of Machine Head, Maiden and old school Slayer all in one.

Testament lyrical work is much better than Metallica's, their songs have actual meaning and complexity, while, even if Metallica has awesome songs, their instrumentation is equal or below Testament's, I like Metallica as well, but I think Testament has achieved as much as the Big 4 (except Slayer maybe), and we have to admit, they are more famous and better than Anthrax and Megadeath, I would compare them to Metallica and place them below Slayer.

Old Metallica and Testament are both great. To say the Metallica is "intolerable" to listen is complete shit regardless of how mad you are that they sold out in the 90's. Sure, compared to other thrash they aren't as great, but it's all taste. They definately didn't suck in the 80's. By the way, Megadeth is my favorite band so in no way am I Metallica fanboy. I don't even agree with the Big Four shit anyway, there are at least a dozen bands you could say belong in there.

It's as mainstream as metal gets. Whether it's hooky choruses or vomit worthy lyrics aimed at teenagers, those two bands seem to do a good job. Neither band lacks talent, it's just that it's hardly bearable if you actually listen to any decent metal.

It's not totally mainstream, but it certainly as close as the genre gets.

To further prove my point, Slipknot and A7X are probably two of the highest selling metal bands of this current time, ahead of bands like Maiden.
