  • i'm so glad these videos exist for the younger guys like me

  • 2 days b4 was msg dark star / this solo was unique / thats jerry.

  • I think Tiger was having work done to it so he was playing the old Wolf, which was originally an Alembic that Doug Irwin customized and later took credit for building it. It was either that or they couldn't put the midi controller (pick-up) on the Tiger. That same equipment was built in to his next two guitars, Rosebud, and the Steve Cripe built Bolt. I miss you Jerry!

  • Beautiful song sung by undoubtedly one of the greatest bands ever! Jerry we miss u!!

  • i drove past the spectrum about 2 months ago, and saw them crushing the frame of the building with the wrecking ball, and just thought about all the incredible music played in that building.

  • @MrSword666 no way, you guys destroy this places and build new ones like nothing!!! im from argentina and saw the dead 2 times there and JGB another two...its sad...

  • George Washington

  • This is very special... High to the Wolf!

  • that solo was all fuckin love, guys.

  • very interesting pauses between the first verses!

  • Jerry was playing Wolf at this time because he was using it to experiment with his new MIDI synthesizer. Once he got it right, he had it installed into Tiger. Then in mid 1990 thats when we saw Rosebud. A much more advanced guitar compared to both Wolf and Tiger. But Im with you. boworl....Tiger was always my favorite!!!!

  • 2 years early if matt and stevie come to ohio. come to ohio for christmas to see bliddy. and uncle bobby

  • I was there! AWESOME SHOW. I miss Jerry!

  • Cool footage and nice to see Wolf making an appearance, do you have anymore from this show?

  • my first dead show... and the best solo of Peggy-O I've ever heard.... 100 plus shows later!

  • some of the best times of my life i spent with these guy's

  • beautiful

  • the family!!

  • saw the boys at the spectrum over 50 times!

  • 15 years today since the last time he was on stage playin music...

  • *chills* Love Ya Jerry

  • Chills...

  • The Wolf made a return for the "Warlock" shows earlier that tour in Hampton

  • What wud Jo Mama think?

Not the greatest Fennario but nothing wrong with it. And Jerry is kickin' it old school with Wolf!! Wonder why no Tiger.

  • 8 days after i was born, amazing

  • Thanks for posting this vid! PeggyO is a big favorite of mine.

The few years after Jerry survived the '86 coma, he was clean, happy & so positive about the future - you can hear it and feel it.

I was lucky enough to make all 3 of the Spectrum shows that run; made the drive from DC after work every day; a hike, esp. by Friday :-)

Fantastic shows, well worth the effort. Set 2 Thu non-stop cookin', Help->Lovelight capped by BabyBlue! Wow.

Then Fri a highly emotional "Californi Earthquake".

  • Actually, Brent died in July of '90. I was at this show. It was awe-some!

  • The prettiest version of this song I have heard of this wonderful tune to date is the 1984 Binghamton, NY version so far (not just because I am from there, because I missed the show!)...but because it is gorgeous!!!!....

  • what kind of guitar is jerry playing

  • Its a custom....Doug Irwin was the lutiers name. He3 had several...this was his first from Doug...affectionately known as "The Big Bad Wolf" because of the inlay behind the tailpiece.

  • Just wanted to say that the 3-16-90 Cap Center version is one my favorites. Give it a listen sometime.

  • Fennario is where the dire wolf lives

  • Unreal. I still think the 6-26-94 Las Vegas version is the paramount... tops this verison at least in sound quality.

Not to be a downer tho... just sayin. I wish it would be on one of Dick's Picks in spite of being a later recording.

There is more emotion in this song live than any band can capture in the studio nowadays.. :(

  • bit it aint got no brent ;)

  • AMEN, brother!

  • Thank You & Peace

  • i have goosebumps watching this

  • what a great artist

  • Comment removed

  • great doesn't even begin to describe jerry. he was out of this world.

  • I was 33 on my birthday at this show. I could not figure out why Jerry changed his guitar, but it did not matter what I thought. I loved the tiger, I don' t know, but I think that was an Alembic he played so many years. I was on the front row and talked to a security guard. I ask him how he liked the Dead. He said he did not like the music, but the crowd was great. "Ya'll get high and dance, the Hank Jr show's crowd got drunk and fought. He liked the music at the end of the concert though.d

  • Hell yeah

  • Jerry looks good here,

  • Did they do a Bird Song in the second set of this show?

  • The Best Dead Tune ever written!!!

  • the dead didn't write this song

  • duh...

  • regardless it still is a great tune.. a traditional folk song.. This song derives from the earlier Scottish traditional song Bonnie Lass of Fyvie-o. Fyvie is thought to have been a staging post between Aberdeen and Fort George in Scotland. This song does occur with a number of title variations. It is possible that Fennario is a corruption of Fyvie-o.

  • WOOT! Wolf! ...and I was there too :) Jerry Lives!

  • wolf!

  • Jerry stretching it out between verses, caught myself signing quicker then Jerry decided to do it that night. Long live the spectrum!

  • the best rip

  • Look @ the hotshot Jerry bustin' out Wolf! Love it!!!

  • amazing. jerry was soooo good. miss him.

  • I was here at thisvery show, partied hard in the parkin lot , yeah it was a good time .

  • I was there too!!!!!!!!!!

  • me too. i was the one that killed the leopard

  • Saw Crosby & Nash play last week up here in upstate NY. Everytime Crosby turned around and had his back to the audience I could have sworn, if I didn't know better, it was Jerry. Ya know, baggy blue jeans, black tee shirt, long blue/grey hair, same shape. Ummm.... if only. I'll never stop missing him.

  • The prophet Elijah, John, Leo

  • I saw the Dark Star Orchestra cover of this concert last night. It was great, but slightly....creepy. Dark Star Orchestra sounds so exactly like the Dead...it's enough to give you goosebumps.

  • I was at that DSO show as well. What a night!!

  • ahhhhhhhh..... miss u Jerry !!

  • chills...

  • shut up and listen...your stories are a dime a dozen...shut up and listen

  • [[[GARCIA LIVES]]]

  • around 3:30 they screw up. It aint genius just someone hitting into the wrong part. good song though.

  • dam ive had the soundboards for this show for ages and i never realized it was the infamous wolf! i knew there was something special goin on for sure best birdsong ever from this show!

  • pretty much that whole tour,...>>>wolf

  • Nice vid, with good Aud... Surprising to see Jerry playin Big bad wolf in 89... Also dig the "Ladies in the Are-o" vice people... Beautiful song, by the best band ever to assemble...

  • I was just graced to be told of this song by a one of a kind man...pretty fitting that my name is Peggy. He is miles away but to hear this song and know he thinks of me makes me feel very close. xoxo James...u r one of a kind

  • very nice version of one of my favorite songs; a highlight from this show, which while fine is not one of the best from this epic tour. nice upload!

chalchuit, never heard that story. always heard the Wolf was brought out to test the new MIDI gear.

  • I love the slow lead-in, how the melody slowly takes shape. Pure Genius!!!

  • I absolutely love the late 70's versions of this song. Bobby had this great, tinny disco sound to his gittar which really added to this number.

  • greatest break up song ever

  • don't know about a break-up song, but interpret it as you will...

  • this is great despite that haevy handed brent

  • BLASPHEMY!

  • bruce is a genius. vince was the worst musician of all time. brent was troubled but great. you are weird.

  • Zappa,

you obviously don't belong here. Just go, because you obsiously have nothing to contribute here. Vince more talented than Brent? Where do I start?

  • man you must get some really good blotter, can I have some?

  • Mee too!!!

  • I love this song. Jerry was a beast for nailing that solo in the dark.

  • Oh yes, the Wolf got pressed into service this fall run because a nitrous laden hells angel tripped over the Tiger and broke its neck in Jerrys dressing room. Rosebud was almost complete and would be put into Jerrys hands upon his return to California. Ask big Steve I think it was his buddy Angelo.

  • The Wolf was there because it was a guinea pig for Jer's new MIDI interface. It was on tour for a few months, starting that summer. Great marks for a good pranketse answer.

    BT

  • Boy do I miss seeing the Dead at the Spectrum.
