Look. Martha has to be an alien from outer space. How ANYONE can be this organized and creative is beyond me. I have a number of her cookbooks and considering all her careers (stock broker, media bigwig selling stuff in target etc etc. I just love her stuff (food related) and have to admire the depth of what she is capable of. Set aside all that can be said negative. It is still pretty freaking amazing....
I've always loved Martha's instructional segments. Something about her voice feels like home. I wish these older videos were released. I certainly collect them. Thanks Martha!!!!
The AGA cooker is a stored-heat stove and cooker invented in 1929 by the Nobel Prize-winning Swedish physicist Gustaf Dalén (1869–1937), who was employed first as the chief engineer of the Swedish AGA company (Swedish: Aktiebolaget Svenska Gasaccumolator, English:Joint stock company Swedish Gas Accumulator)....
A small, two-oven AGA running on gas will use approximately 425 kWh per week (22,100 kWh per year). The average standard gas oven and hob uses 580 kWh during a year, only 2.62% of the AGA's consumption.
Some 30 years ago I fell in love with the Aga. And finally I got one in 2003 ... lucky me! No microwave for me. The Aga makes cooking so relaxed. It is a way of life. The only mistake I made is not buying this cooker right after we got married. But at that time my kitchen was not spacious enough and we simply did not have the money.
this was 1985 she was just becoming known after her 1982 book "entertaining" It was filmed in the kitchen of her Turkey Hill home (or a set that replicated it). They never paid her but she did recieve a free oven.
Not sure of the year, but I'll guess about 10 or so years ago. My wife sells these cookers, they are true beasts! They are also the easiest things to cook on - no guess work. They are probably the best ovens out there - not to mention they are "green" - they do not use fuel unless they need to heat up. Truly a style of cooking on it's own!
sorry greenmetal1, the only green thing about an aga is the colour. x4 oven costs about £10,000 and oil fired will go through approx.£25 worth a month. They have to be serviced every year (£100) and it is on all the time- taking 24 hours to get up to temperature from cold. Cook too much at once and it looses heat and you will never be able to stir fry. Yet, if I suggested getting rid of ours my wife would divorce me!
The ones here in the US are natural gas, propane or electric operated - no oil. The fuel usage is at first high, but then operate like a water heater, only using fuel on demand, they burner isn't on all the time. The oil fired ones may be different the way they operate, but I've never encountered one, only NG, LPG, or electric.
Martha, do you like it in the barn kitchen?

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate her career and everything, but she is such a pretentious snob.

God she is like a robot but with less personality. Aga is a great stove how ever.

as a daily Aga user over the past 20 years I think they are great but this commercial strikes me as mendacious.
I am not surprised they chose that woman (yes great melons)
If you use the Aga to any great extent the temperature drops quite quickly and so the amount of use portrayed here seems very excessive.
As far as I know also the comment about "sealing in the juices " is a myth (saw that on Heston Blumenthal)
