you mentioned that they didnt season the tinber correctly you talked about wood so i believed you knew about wood if knowlede is arrogance i apologise
may i explain something this boat is faired and painted not clinker the caulking will seal theboat not compression of timber on timber the other possibility is that the cradel collapsed laying her over to the gunnels i am suprised you never heard of culking cotton ask any shipwright check out my channel for boating videos cheerybye
@TheCutthroatjake Er, ok. I own a GRP boat and have never had any direct contact with a wooden boat, so why would I know about caulking cotton? Be careful, sir, you're beginning to come across as a bit arrogant.
most likley didnt connect hose to seacock or open to drain on slip and forgot to close nothing to do with seasoned timber planks are caulked with cotton and linseed oil putty cotton swells on imersion not the timber so there
@TheCutthroatjake An open seacock would not sink a boat that quickly (which, admittedly, was not evident from this clip). It went down almost immediately. In fact it went down in the space of time it took me nip down below and boil the kettle! Am unsure about the caulking technique you refer to and have not heard of gullets being caulked in this way.
oooh i see what you did there, ur a clever person arent youu?! A three pronged joke that plays on anal sex and greece being phonetically identical to grease, used in place of lubricant. hohohooo funny funny.
Hehe, no, nothing to do with the Greeks. Basically they did not allow the wood to season properly. What they should have done is partially submerge it to allow the wood to expand. They didn't, they rushed it and the wood did not expand in time. That's the nature of wooden boats. Bit like laying wooden floor boards - you need to allow them to stand in their environment before laying them
And for those of you who may be confused by GreekCivilization's comments, let me explain: the Greeks and the Turks hate each other like the Scots and the English. That's to say the Greeks hate the Turks and the Turks really couldn't care less.

Beautiful boat. What a shame.
I can just imagine their horror, at not being able to pump her out, as she's going down.

shipwrecks are incredibly unnerving. nothin is scarier than seeing a boat onthe wrong side of a waterline...

I think they hauled it out, let it dry out inside and then relaunched it.
