The best thing with the effects at that time was that they had to combine real stuff with computers. Today people would only make a crowd 100% CGI. That's why the effects were better back then. But some movie makers still prefers having real stuff as much as possible wich is a big plus.
this is what visual effects are made for ........ To use them so the audience does NOT notice anything was really changed!! ^^ This is phenomenal work for the time!!
I didn't like the fact that they won Visual Effects Oscar over "The Mask" and "True Lies" but this documentary make me respect and accept Academy's choice.
@FrosChannel completely agree. since all movies these days are pirated anyways, the producers and studios dont want to waste their money on good movies anymore. tragic.
@ignoranceandwant Interesting! However, it's not inconceivable that, to a man of Nixon's age at that time and his history in DC, that a 5 year old hotel may have been described by him as "brand new". In comparison to other hotels there, some of which were probably 10, 20, or even 50 years old or more.
Actually, the removal of objects from a photographed imaged (still or motion picture)has been done for decades. Although, not as elaborate as in Forrest Gump. In 1983, Abel & Associates composited Woody Allen into scenes with Adolf Hitler for the film Zelig. In 1993, the face of Brandon Lee was composited onto a stunt double after Lee was accidentally killed on the set of The Crow.
@Ciklide Yeah pretty amazing huh? It was really ahead of it's time, and what's great about it is that it's CGI used the right way. The effects on the T-1000 in T2 were also done with CGI, and that was 90/91!
Only if they had motion tracking...

This movie has such a beautiful vibe to it. So childlike. So warm. So peaceful. I don't know how to describe it.
Forrest Gump has been my favorite movie for as LONG as I can remember... ever since I saw it when I was two. Love it. So much.

Not that it matters, but the Watergate complex was about 5 years old when Forrest presumably stayed there (summer of 1972).
ignoranceandwant 2 years ago
