bull terriers are the best dogs ever but if it's going to be your first dog it will be a lot of work for you. They are naturaly very friendly and loving but they still are terriers. That means they are very stuburn and they need a lot of care and good training. I keep them for a long time and I would give my life for my dogs I tell you!

Just to say that the bull terrier was trained to pit fight bulls. Its indomitable spirit and tolerance of pain made it practically invincable in the old days. I believe a american pit bull goes for attack, release, attack, strategy whereas a bull terrier will bite and hold. I have no experience of pit bulls but have had 'bullies' for years and they are the most gentle,friendly, tolerant, noble and utterley fun/nutty dogs I have known. God bless them all.

@evilpacker bull terriers have nearly the same weight range as a pitbull- upwards of nearly 100 pounds. bull terriers can lock their flat jaws just like pitbulls, however bull terriers have bigger, stronger teeth and the potential to bite even harder as they have much more muscle in their jaw and neck (which is why their head and neck are the same width). bullterriers also have more muscle weight for their size than a pitbull does.
