The reason the recording is cut at that diameter is that this disc was an attempt at cutting a master lacquer which was to subsequently be plated and used ultimately to produce a stamper or stampers for pressing vinyl copies. So this lacquer would have been cut on a Scully lathe or something of comparable quality....definitely not on a Wilcox-Gay!
Masters for records are always cut on larger discs; those for LPs are generally 14".
Did you get an answer (I don't see one here)? Can't help on the song or performers, but the actual record looks like what we used to get as a demo when we recorded in NY studios in the 1950's-1960's. Those demos used to be a bit heavier than normal. We'd record to tape, and then the recording engineer would go in the back and transfer the tape to a disk like this on the cutting machine (looked like a torture machine!).
@brodafin Yes, I havent gotten around to changing the vid title yet. But its Ginger Callahan, and I do belive its a Demo as well, a 'first take' or an 'alternate take'. Ill leave your message in my inbox as a remindder to get in here and change all the titles...
@78Revolutions OK - Ginger Callahan - "Poison Love"/"Runnin' " (1964) BENJON Music 103 (BENJON is a label out of Louisville, KY - I am working on the other 2 unknown tracks for you. Hope this helps. Tony.
