Oil rich areas never are asked to "donate" oil to help anyone. There is a cost in oil and other resources to produce food. Cut oil to 20 dollars a barrel and the production cost of food would be so low there would be no starvation.
There are Children is Europe who are suffering and Dying. Russia has around 10 to 20 million children in Orphanages who die everyday. I'm my self am a orphanage from Astrakhan.

Quit sending money, which many honest African leaders have requested, and most of their problems would be solved. That, and make the Catholic church quit meddling in denying birth control which would help stop the spread of AIDS, and lower the population strain on the environment.

This is what it is like there. That's it. You can sent them billions of dollars and billions of tons of food. The problem is that doesn't solve the problems. What will they do tomorrow or next month. Will they be able to support themselves then? If sand and rocks ever become valuable these people will be fine, til then there will always be starving people in the Horn.
The corn that normally comes from the U.S. to help feed these people is being used to make Ethanol. The process to make Ethanol from corn is not efficient and their for not profitable. That is why the U.S. government uses your tax money to subsidize the industry. Isn't that just lovely. So our government ( screaming that it does not have enough money) uses your tax money to support a failed industry while at the same time contribute to the starvation of millions. It's just lovely! :-(

all that is money wasted that COULD have gone to this cause. just because i ate the last bite of a sandwich rather than throw it away does not mean it feeds others.

@pedi007 thats only half the truth. ti think the long term projects probably already started, but since they are long termed and need to build up they are not effective enough to cope with a sudden(even more) massive famine; so they started an additional temporary project to keep most alive
at least thats what i think, most other things would be ineffective and therefore senseless

that's what happens when imperial countries interfere in poor countries politics and give them weapons instead of help, and incites them to fight each other. that's what the UN is doing in the world, spreading disaster, and putting Economic embargoes on poor countries and fighting any one helping them. billions spent on entertainment instead of human well being, billions spent on weapons, and billions on invading countries killing it's populations and steeling their goods.

well first of all guys, the whole of africa is not like this.. just to make that clear. only some parts of it are the once that are in deep trouble. I was born in kenya, and my uncle is a minister of kenya. I wish you guys could see how the government members are treated. Wish you could see how lazy they are... None of them are doing anything about the wars and hunger. In places like kenya, a persons voice doesn't count... Just PRAY.

This is what it is like there. That's it. You can sent them billions of dollars and billions of tons of food. The problem is that doesn't solve the problems. What will they do tomorrow or next month. Will they be able to support themselves then? If sand and rocks ever become valuable these people will be fine, til then there will always be starving people in the Horn.

The corn that normally comes from the U.S. to help feed these people is being used to make Ethanol. The process to make Ethanol from corn is not efficient and their for not profitable. That is why the U.S. government uses your tax money to subsidize the industry. Isn't that just lovely. So our government ( screaming that it does not have enough money) uses your tax money to support a failed industry while at the same time contribute to the starvation of millions. It's just lovely! :-(

This is so much BS. This event is a disgrace to humanity. In the final analyses it just doesn't matter that we have 725 military bases around the world while millions of our brothers starve. Do you see the Irony? If anyone really cared about spreading Democracy Africa would be a good start. The weak and poor countries are ripe for Communism. Then when Communism makes a go at it, we bomb them. It's just lovely! Why are we driven by $ rather than The Consitution and compassion?
