Research websites that give you moving tips, and you can also find what your rights are on moving sites as well. For those who choose to move yourself compare rates for movers to do the move against renting a do it yourself truck. Sometimes you pay the same amount to move your self as you would have to hire movers. There are decent movers out there. Research research!
... There were people going through their stuff crying in disbelief. They were being charged to store their items in storage bins and the items were just thrown in a pile on the floor. They also would lowball their estimates and chalk up ridicolous charges, and if you questioned them, the large criminal movers would threaten the customer into paying. People just have to really be careful when they hire people to move them. Get several quotes. Request an on-site estimate for any move larger ...
It is sad to see this type of thing happen. People really need to research the companies they use. I am in the industry and I helped remove items from a company just like this one. The F.B.I. was involved and we tried to help them salvage what was left of these unfortunate people's belongings. This warehouse looked like a disaster area. Peoples possessions were just thrown in piles like a dump truck brought it there. Anything of value was stolen by the owner and few participating employees. ...
If some companies, with good record, reputation etc say give you $4000-$4500
For a certain move, and somebody else give you $1500.00 you are supposed to use something called a brain,Use it to think. from years of experience, cheap customer, are always rude, impatient, feel entitled, think they are smarter then everybody, feel privileged.

It is truly sad to see imposters pose as professional movers. We should all keep in mind that estimated cost is exactly that, an estimate. As the consumer it is our job to provide accurate information when requesting an estimate over the phone or internet. Here are some simple steps you should take when choosing a professional relocation company:
1: Research the company, company history, license and insurance. Testimonials are not references. Request more recent, relevant references.
2: Schedule an in-home estimate and request a binding estimate. A binding estimate is when a company guarantees a price.
3: Choose a licensed and insured full service relocation company. Always keep in mind that we get what we pay for. If the price sounds too good to be true then it most likely is.
This is a great video as it highlights one of the many moving scams out there. You can't just hire the first mover that gives the lowest price and has the best website, you have to do a little research first.
While I'm by no means taking up for Alex, this is precisely why you DON'T hire a mover based on a phone estimate, especially for an interstate move, which is completely deregulated. If you want to see the end result of complete deregulation, free trade, and self-policing, well, here's what happens!
