  • very motivational man he just proves u can do what ever u want just put your mind too it

  • I can understand EVERY word this man is saying... Maybe all of you complaining that you can't understand need to listen more closely or get a better sound system. Also for people who say he comes of as against women or gay rights... do your homework. I guess you never saw the episodes where he clearly states that he is a supporter of both feminism and gay-rights. he may have seemed prejudiced but it is clear that he was trying not to alienate people who do feel that way so he could convert them

  • He said he has his initials on his underwear, then says "Now I'm not gay, don't get too crazy", then he says he has nice underwear because he might be "dealing" with some ladies, then says the christians are gonna get mad at him. Man, sounds like a sexist and prejudiced against gay people.

  • HAHAHA He says he has verbal skills. No one can even understand what he's saying!

  • Have a feeling he was going to say something about his dick there, at the end.

  • @916kyle Exactly what he was going to say. yep I have an original copy recorded on VHS haha LOL

  • by RICH PEOPLE.

  • I have no idea what he's saying. I can't understand a word

  • I'm glad I done further research on petey greene since watching talk to me. never knew he was an emmy winner, there was a lotta things they left out in the movie. Petey was on point

  • Petey was a prophet. Warts and all. He was a prophet.

  • He looks different in this clip because

    A. It was the early 80s and he had a S/Jeri curl going

the earlier clips are from the 70s

    B.He was dying of cancer

Knowing that its very hard to watch this clip because he was literally wasting away

    in front of our eyes.

  • Well, I can understand what he is talking about, but I have to wonder, do you hire a pedophile to work in an elementary school? He did his time right? In Petey's case, I'm sure his criminal activity was due to addiction and alcoholism. But this man is proof that anyone can get their life straightened out if they work hard enough. You got to love the 70's and early 80's, because you will never see a show like this again. This is coming from a CRACKER!

  • thats santana isnt it

  • I'm feelin what he's saying but THIS IS PETEY GREENE??

  • That is not the same Petey Green! Looks totally different. No fro, no shades, looks Hispanic, doesn't even sound the same wtf?????

  • damn thats petey green? he looks like a mexican...

  • Did he seriously just associate homosexuality with pedophilia?

  • why is he light skin now????

  • This is Petey green.... He looks like Joe Jackson Michael jackson's dad and talk like'em to.why they had don cheadle portraying him is beyond me cause he looks nothing like'em.

  • did he get more....hispanic?

  • preach brotha

  • 1:26 and they PAY!

  • the obvious reason companies as for previous records is because they are protecting their business. not all ex-cons will revert back to their criminal ways, but if someone's broken the law once, they're at a higher risk of breaking the law again as opposed to a law-abiding citizen. wouldn't you want to check and see if your child's grade school teacher was a convicted pedophile? if he/she was...would you TRUST them to be around your child? very simple concept to understand. not that hard...

  • @smoogl i don't think he was actually concerned with companies asking for records in hiring, he was mainly focused on the system. money talks. there is no way that drunk driving has any implication on anything other than if you were a deliver driver at a liquor store, but 90% of the businesses wont' hire you, but you can get 20 credit cards in the same day you're released from jail. Who's being hustled? we are. and it goes beyond ex-cons. we are all being hustled.

  • Petey Greene reminds me of my youth, but his commentary is timeless. Credit card companies aren't concerned with whether you have a criminal record. They are concerned with your ability to repay debt. The only color that matters to a company that issues credit is the color GREEN. Not Petey GREENE :)

We need more Petey Greene's today. You will never find one.

    We miss you Petey.

  • @Mao2187 in fact, they arent' concerned with if you can repay the debt, just so long as you can make an occassional payment. it came out that they TARGET poor people, so they can charge them fees like no tomorrow.

  • @friend of the funk, you're a simple minded head of cattle who would rather be dazzled by the trendy, dissolute gay lifestyle than see what really goes on on this planet

  • actually closet homos who were turned out by homos as children are the chief molesters. Homosexual social networks are the feeding impetus for child exploitation and trafficking worldwide

  • @geekdoEn you're a fucking idiot

  • Petey Greene is hustling backwards while putting forward the stereotype of gays as child molesters. how ironic. actually the FACTS are that heterosexuals are the chief child molesters. practice what you preach about ignorance.

  • yeah but remember where he came from. he's probably never meet any homosexual men.hes just going off of what most people believed about gays at that time and in the 80's. that wasnt so good. im sure if he was alive right now hed be saying something completely different. everything else he had to say was on point though.

it was 25-30 yrs ago you have to apply some historical understanding when viewing vids 2 decades old

  • @TeamEagle01 Yeah, I saw another video of him where he was saying he was FOR gay rights...I guess he just slipped, lol

  • "That is the problem with whites"...???

If someone said "That's the problem with blacks", they'd be labeled a stereotyping racist...so are you a racist?

  • @blacklifemedia Petey Greene is an insult to black intellect. Think about it. Don't be tribal minded... Arguments are not always about black and white... so measure character the right way... they way that puts us all ahead... white, black, latino, asian, african etc

  • @kosmopolitisch I'm from DC and remember that time very well. He was a character no doubt. But he made people who were not intellectuals feel as though they could express their opinions and play a part within society. We all as you said and I agree cover the entire range from prince to pauper and rocket scientist to fool. It's good to be able to identify where one falls but it is better and more skillful to recognize the value in all of them.

  • @blacklifemedia I am well aware that the black community is diverse. But, i am also aware that our diversity used to allow cream (James Balwin, Malcom X, Homer Plessy, Maya Angelou's) to rise to the top; now it's our scum - our vulgar, violent, criminal-minded and least logical. Our youth need real examples of character and moral fibre... Not some pimp glorifying loud mouth who blames the system for our problems... We are our own worse enemy... because we give power to people like him....

  • @kosmopolitisch Well,?? You know that Baldwin, Malcom X , King and other like him were never given a platform. Most of them were fought against vehemently. Only in recent times has their work been recognized. But in their day they got no support from mainstream. But I suppose I can agree basically with what your saying. Most people that we may consider scum, too must have their day to shine. I do miss the days when excellence is openly rewarded...Take care man>>

  • @blacklifemedia Thank you for acknowledging my argument and the fact that our most talented minds are oftentimes discredited and pushed aside. And all too often our less cerebral-minded are given the floor to push some of the worse values onto our youth. And don't get me wrong; sometimes laughter is good but our really intelligent entertainers like Dick Gregory and Bill Cosby are no longer appreciated not mention men of conscience like Belafonte and Portier... Thanks again.

  • lol he wore the undies out so much the only thing he had left hanging on him was the lassey. lol fucking hilarious.

  • Speak for yourself you pathetic coon !

  • The system is hustling backwards because it rewards people that think backwards especially in entertainment. It would be nice if he realized that he was simply a black minstrel act. And his testimony of failure is appreciated only by those who don't expect much from blacks. And so, he was recognized in kind. But it must be emphasized that this is not talent per se but a black clown act.

  • I think calling a concerned, and life educated man who got beyond his neighborhood and actually gave a damn about his city and provoked those in charge to change as "minstrel" is insulting. I get your point and agree with you that many people saw this as being minstrel in nature, but compare this to things like Gucci Mane and Petey is a genius.

They way your logic goes, any black person with a dialect who comes from an inner city culture and has something to say is minstrel and thats fucked up

  • Petey Greene isn't diminished by his dialect. In fact, that's the only thing about him that's redeemable. Greene's problem begin with his expressions lacking meaningful content. In fact, all Greene served to do was to promote the growth of what has become the permanent underclass - criminal class - here in America. Additionally, he promoted vulgar behavior, lack of discretion and contempt for self-discipline and development.. Greene is a minstrel meat puppet at best...

  • @blacklifemedia We're all capable of unintentionally being momentary minstrels. But that'll never compare to making a living off of the deliberate effort. Who cares what anyone expects from Blacks? I do. And I am not alone. And just because you don't see the mass assembly of people rallying behind the cause like during the sixties doesn't mean the cause is dead. And I agree that there is wall to wall problems in this world ranging from moral decay, illiteracy, failing economies, to no hope

  • more journalist should be like petey green, I for one being from Baltimore will follow in the example he has set :" Be Yourself"!

  • I appreciate the fact that he's talking about something that is still a big problem today. An ex-convict has served his/her time. When he gets out, he shouldn't have to continue serving that sentence by not being able to get a job, or vote. Why would a credit card company give an ex-felon a credit card, but that same company won't give an ex-felon, or even someone with bad credit, a job. Like he said, "Hustlin' Backwards". I agree.

  • @laffytaffygreen And they wonder why ex-convicts buy cocaine...

  • @laffytaffygreen Thats Real Talk. That is why the system is the way it is today

  • b.e.t been selling out anyway all they shows promote ignorence think im lying watch the promo for college hill all they say is fights fights fights!! how bout study study study!! guess ratings r more important

  • @block15wB Looking at your punctuation, you need some of that study study study!!

  • @planetrob555 When my ancestors were stolen we did not speak English so i'll put it frankly fuck English,English men and English muffins

  • @block15wB block15wB--I apologize for what came across as a rude comment. I was criticizing how you choose to write. I was wrong. If I feel I have the right to speak/type however I want, then I MUST respect your right to do as you choose. Please accept my apology.

  • Here's what in a nut shell?????????

  • If you don't know; now you know.....

  • what the fuck is he talking about/saying.......

  • HE TOLD DA TRUTH!

  • HE TOLD DA TRUTH!!!

  • Petey is the man.

I'm watching the movie "Talk to Me" right now.

We need a 'Real Nigga' like this on TV nowadays, I'm tired of these phony ass bullshitting motherfuckers that's on the tube. BET is wack, Fuck TVOne and UPN. Black networks owned and controlled by white people.

  • Who are you, the word police?

How about you just get over the the word and focus on important things that matter.

  • how about i dont have to get over shit, little shit are the ones you miss and they become a problem damn your ignorant go to school

  • @TRUKNOWLEDGE1

Your reply is very ironic--its "YOU'RE" not your, stupid.

  • Who GIVES A FUCK this is Youtube Bitch!

  • @ThePresidentIsBlack right on!!!

  • @ThePresidentIsBlack Mainstream media isn't the only thing controlled by white people. Your "black" president is, too!

  • @ThePresidentIsBlack damn you r so right my britha we need real ppl now cause everyones closed minded and they accept fake and love it

  • they need to put more petey greene danm youtube

  • Petey we miss ya man. U still the man!!!!! Don't no body tellem like you told!!!!!!

  • I didn't know Petey growing up in Chicago but wish I had. I needed him as a teen in the 70's and would have loved to here him speak to the people. DC people were lucky to have him. I saw show on PBS about him and he did so much even getting invited to the white house and Johnny Carson but didn't go so he wanted to stay in Washington because if he wewnt to Carson he would have had a nation wide syndicated show for sure. God rest his soal ling live the 1 and only Petey Greene!

  • Should have put a twang of salt on a sweet melon!Loy Ha'Mercy :)

  • BUT HE HAZ ALL THE CREDENTUUULLLZZZ

  • There is a lot of black on black crime, and thats a shame.70% of prison inmates are black, and thats a shame.Brothers need more of Petey Greene In their daliy lifestyle.More Petey Greene, baby. Now thats cool.

  • what about jc? if jc ain't enough for people, den petey green sho nuf will never ever bee nuf for people's.

  • Petey Green was a combination of Steve Harvey and Bernie Mac. I don't think they came any more real than Petey. He was the first black broadcaster in DC to win an Emmy. His sign off was: "I'll tell it to the hot, I'll tell it to the cold, I'll tell it to the young, I'll tell it to the old. I don't want no laughin', don't want no cryin' and most of all no signafyin'..this IS Petey Green......god bless him.

  • Just because a guy rapes or steals doesnt mean you cant trust him with your money. What are people thinking...

  • It does tell you about the character of a person

people can change but if I see somebody with prison tats or a tear drop tat on the corner of their eye I am not pulling out my wallet

  • I never knew who this guy was until someone posted a video where he's talking about watermelons.

This guys amazing, such a shame he died at 53. RIP

  • There has to be consequences for your actions. If kids see how you are struggling after getting out of jail, chances are they won't do something stupid to get put in jail. Now some people still have to learn the hard way regardless, but there is a reason why it is so hard for an ex con its not impossible, but it is hard. They made choices to be in that position and to associate with the wrong crowd. just do the right thing and the rest will take care of itself

  • Employers are minimizing thier risk by doing background checks. They are already taking a gamble on you when they hire you. Contrary to what Petey is saying in this video, your past does say alot about you. Employers aren't into altriusm. They're into making a dollar.

  • what if you are qualified and only been ib trouble one time. Should i still be held against you?

  • That's a hard question to answer. Some people do change. Most don't.

  • OMG i love how he talks you can't understand 1/2 of what he says when he starts muttering but he says "God gave me verbal skills" hahah He makes awesome points though

  • i got me some undies n rrrrnrrmrmrrmrm know what sayin...rnrrmrnrnrnr christians might get mad but..LOL

  • True talk

  • woooooow don cheadle really nailed his role of petey green....he sounds JUST like him, mannerisms and all

  • you can still get a job with a record, it will just be some manual labor job. if you want more possibilities then don't go to jail.

  • if you don't wanna go to jail then don't be poor & if you don't wanna be poor then don't get born

  • i just got thru watching his movie on iO =D

btw, y cant black icons be white icons too? wats right is right and color doesnt change that

  • right on!!!

  • REAL TALK

  • Why do you all go out of your way to put him down? The man did some great things, so let it be. Just because whitey is sick of being treated like a racist, because you are, doesn't mean you need to go out of your way to prove the minorities wrong. Let them have your icons, and you can keep yours, simple as that. Hate is so unnecessary, don't waste the energy.

  • he just said some real ass shit. that shit prolly went over alotta people head

  • sho-nuff...i no dats right...

  • hOW OLD IS THIS VIDEO?

  • it's probably early eigthties.

  • Petey!!! this is P-Town! =D

  • Listen you, the reason his speech is so blured is because he was sick at the time and was on heavey pain medication. So you need to know what your talking about before you comment!!!

  • he looks like the Junkie basketball player John Lucas

  • Don Cheadle looks NOTHING like him. They should've used Davey Lopes OR Reggie Smith to play him in the movie.

  • The "they" you speak of is Don Cheadle he has director producer credits on that movie !

  • lol verbal skills my ass

  • wat also did he give him........

  • mentorofminos SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU THINK PEOPLE CARE YOU ARE THE ONE HATEING YOURSELF REAL BLK PPL DONT CARE ABOUT YOU!!!OH YEAH BLACK PEOPLE MEANS NIGGA NIGGERS CRACKERS REDNECKS LATINOS SPICS CHINESE ARABS TERRORIST!!! ANDDDDD RICH AND POOR SMART OR DUMB DO YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO FITS IN THIS CATEGORY***BITCH*** STOP HATIN

  • also at this point petey greene was looking a little different than his other videos

  • Petey Greene!

  • adrienne wynn

  • Niltsuh?

  • Best bit is 1:37 - 1:42.

"...but I got 'bout a hundred thousand pairs dromsormmmundstan-initialsonit-aaiiimgenndair! omm-ommgetoocrumbuttahs-likes nice undies 'cos sometime I be dealin' with womeeeen..."

  • I heard ..."but I got about a hundred thousand pair of draws now..ya understand ya all mah initials (dialog cut out) but I aint gay now, hold up..i dont get too cold but I,..just like nice undies because sometimes I be dealin with women...aint got no bad lookin look...man... christian people gone get mad"

  • rofl

    Yeah, I love this guy.

  • who are you even arguing with? whats your point? no one said anything about anyone having to speak a certain way but you.

So you're arguing with yourself to make a point?

    lol, dont be ridiculous token

  • Seriously, nobody has any idea what you're talking about.

GTFO and take your fail with you.

  • was this neccessary?..is this all u have to say? do you pride urself on being able to successfully cut down and ridicule what u dont understand and clearly dont care to? I AM A NEGRO,BLACK,AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN. i dont agree with all he has to say but i do understand that his words have a viable basis. explain to me what ur really ignorant statement accomplished other than proving him utterly right. can u state your real name here.r u truly proud of urself? i am, adrienne wynn 25, chicago, il.

  • MizzJai, because you're 25, you didn't have the opportunity to see and hear Peaty Green when he was on. That was actually one of his favorite phrases. Go see the movie "Talk to Me" with Don Cheadle.

  • Hi Adrienne

  • I completely agree with you. Every single black man and woman in my graduate program carries themself and talks with this "attitude" style of inner-city black. It's a stereotype, and they perpetuate it splendidly. Then I have a friend who is an undergrad who came from Kenya but grew up here. She has no goofy accent, she dresses professionally, she is well-kempt and professional, punctual, and polite. Read: she gives NO fodder to racists to say blacks are inferior. Why don't more people wise up!?

  • shut up

  • It's so strange to hear him drop the N-bomb like it's nothing. Like, to him, it's almost natural. But when he says it, it doesn't seem wrong. But when 50 Cent says it, it seems wrong!!

Why is that? Maybe it's a different era.

  • and 50's mad when he says it or some shit. this guys an actual o.g

  • because you're white

  • I'm Hispanic -- not sure if that counts as white. Probably not, lol. But still, I never drop N-bombs!

  • i hear ya token

  • its becuase 50 cent glorifies it and also he glorifies having sex with females and calls women bitches and its more of the context used and what he says. plus 50 cents sucks at rapping so tough luck

  • "someone gave me a chance, and god gave me a talent, verbal skills..."

  • Talk to me Petey! This kat was one of the realist ever! It goes to show that you don't need degrees for every thing in this world. It's about talent anyway. Like P said. All I needed was a chance and he got that chance. There are so many people in the world that have natural talent that never been to school but will out do the pompous a hole with a degree because he's more hungrey do to that fact. Talk to me P! Rest in Peace!!!

  • LOL Peter's that dude!

  • "Now I can afford to buy 100,000 pairs of underwear with my initials on it" lol!! I'll have to get some custom made underwear with my initials on it now!!

  • is that the brah from miami vice?

  • No he died the year Miami Vice was released. You thinkin bout Philliph Michael Thomas.

  • It was all good until he made the comment about "the homosexual". But,i guess I should put it context. He were alive today he probably wouldnt make that same comment in this day and age in light of all the progress the LGBT community has made, and how intolerable blatant homophobia has become.

  • What I think is funny is that it's called "homophobia", which would suggest a fear of homosexuals. When in fact, the issue really is the feeling of disgust with the act of homosexuality for its immorality. Fear has nothing to do with it.

  • I don't think Petey Greene was a homophobe at all...he said the guy was a homosexual with a wife and kids...i think he was criticizing the man's hypocracy...not his homosexuality.

  • You're exactly right. You have to look at the time the video was shot.

  • Movie on him was pretty good

  • petey greene was fine!!

  • Thank you for posting this. I have heard about Petey Green for years and finally get to see and hear him

  • Can´t you yankees spell Greene´s name correct? Why spell it "Green"...

  • when some people can't understand him thats just that Ghetto dialect that some people use. I got a cousin in St Louis who goes into some crazy dialect from time to time. I just saw the movie, Cheadle don't look nothin like him. He done a Good job tho and i suppose that's wat matters.

  • More Black people need to know about Petey Green,he kept it real

  • Absolutely, he's a D.C. Legend.

  • he was real funny too huh? lol! I saw that How To Eat A Watermelon clip! lol! real funny yo

  • Man, as Petey woulda probably said reading this, damn - there are some ignorant cr@ckers up in here. LOL

Seriously though like Maya said, Petey was long established before Howard appeared on his show. He was actually at the end of his career when Howard was on his tv show. Listen to the 'History of Howard Stern (Act 3)' to hear the truth. Last thing, Regent032, you're such a hyprocite.

  • This guy came from prison to getting his own radio show and TV show inn the 60s!! Oh yeah I can tell he was boring!! Ha Ha Ha This was at a time that racism was openly displayed upon blacks. You people are so jealous of successful blacks its a shame. LOL This was over 3 decades ago and some of you people are still sore about this successful black man. Oh and what do you know...they made a movie about this boring dude! Oh yeah he was so boring!! Ha Ha you losers motivate me!! :-)

  • Im a white guy. I think Petey greene wasd a good man

  • to those of you who believe that howard stern made petey green, get real howard stern has acknowledged that petey greene was his source of inspiration.

  • Ha, Regent, I can't believe you could even understand him. There was one point in the Video where he had to have said a whole sentence in one word.

  • no one seems to have a problem with him saying companies should hire an ex-con, but shouldn't hire a homosexual. I guess it's better if a straight male ex-con steals from the petty cash fund than a homosexual man glances at you and makes you feel uncomfortable while getting coffee in the break room. Fire the fag and forgive the con.

  • ya that was a hypocritical slip.. I hired a con. he still ows me 350 bucks damn bitch!

  • Petey would have blown his sorry ass out of the water, Howard stern couldn't hold a candle next to Petey Green!

  • ROFL!ROFL! ROFL!

    Dude are you drunk?!
