An unintended consequence of the feminist movement: American men becoming feminine, gossipy bisexuals who like to talk about celebrities, dancing and fashion (example: Matt Lauer).
There are dozens of anti-pornography channels on Youtube, some of them feminists who just hate the thought of penis, some teenegers who have had the life sucked out of them and some of them are religious nuts. Search for some of them if you want to feel like the world isn't in very good hands.
I'm sort of past the point of arguing with people, till I'm blue in my mouth, why porn is bad. These days, I think, if anyone asks me, I'll just take them to YouPorn and *show* them what's wrong with it. Or else they can read Gail Dines' Pornland if they are too faint of heart to go online and do some research.
Prostitution and pornography are utterly disgusting and humiliating. They are yet another example of how the dignity of a human-being is completely removed, and replaced by something else - something pitiful.
Being paid for sex or not is degrading and makes the poor woman feel inadequate and worthless. How can being degraded to perform sexual acts on a stranger be empowering.?
People have lost sight of love all together and become in lust. This is exacly why most relationships dont last..
@clairehair2010 Some people believe that scrubbing toilets is degrading. Some people believe working in a hospital cleaning up blood vomit, urine, and feces is degrading yet people still do those jobs.
There are some people out there who would rather perform sexual acts on a stranger rather then work in some greasy kitchen at macdonalds. Or clean and wipe shit up
and for some people it is empowering.
and why do you say "poor woman" what about men who work in prostitution?
I am a male supporter of the sex-positive feminist movement. I am indeed a very sexual and sensual person. However, I must say that many young women are exploited by the pornography industry. Why can one not have a drink until age 21 but can sell themselves on camera in front of the world (which can and will come back to haunt them) on their 18th birthdays. Watching extreme hardcore porn also desensitizes people and causes them to seek ever more extreme acts in their own lives.
hi there ,i am a muslim from pakistan.i want to be friends with you lady.i like internet, and your deep blue eyes, your hair, your speech and the way you carry yourself.i want to know if we can be friends.i will treat you nicely and with respect.as a gentleman treats a lady.on your question of prostitution.i had been with them before my marriage and i think almost all are innocent and creation of our society.
@acdemmon Are you saying that all of your morality comes from religion? If that is the case, then what about people from other religions, or people who have no religion at all, yet clearly have morals? Or what about people who are of the same religion as you, but of a different sect, with different views than you? To say that "without religion, there is no real foundation for morality" is denying that everyone who is of a different religion/sect than you has any morality whatsoever.
Iceland is literally the most feminist country on Earth, yet it's the first country to ban prostitution, lap-dances, etc, for feminist, rather than religious reasons. They are completely accepting of gays; but unlike the people around here and America, they read the bible for guidance, even many atheists; it's actually mandatory in education; however, Iceland is mostly atheist. The way I figure it, is that they are not afraid to have guiding principles or moral standards.
This video makes me laugh with her saying she doesn't give a bad name to the groups she supposedly represents. She gives a bad name to atheists by labelling pro-life activists as "stupid motherfuckers"? She gives a bad name to feminists by supporting prostitution - which leads women to become dependent on men for drugs and money.
Being sexually expressive or "sex positive" has NOTHING to do with having sex for money.
I like how she pretends like she's open to different views. Bullshit.
There is no good name for feminists. Feminists are simply the female version of chauvinists. It's much better to be a proponent of equal opportunity and civil rights rather than claiming feminism or chavinism
Thank you so much for standing up and saying the things I get yelled at for saying. I AM a feminist. And if you are a feminist, and you are telling me that a male can't be a feminist, then you're a hypocrite. Think about it =P
Speaking of hypocrites, why aren't all these "feminist" women getting upset fo the men who are in prostitution and porn as well? Because the men are the chauvinistic pigs? That women aren't at all involved? Equality or inequality, stick with ONE, you can't pick & choose
I don't "pay for pussy", but just because it's something I wouldn't do, doesn't mean I think it should be illegal. I don't have that right. Nobody has that right but sadly the screaming moral minority get what they want.
Prostitution is legal in only one state,Nevada. All other prostitution is illegal and run by pimps. All of those women are denigrated, abused, and used. It does not honor women, even the ones who do it legally.
why the soft sell? Men are just cocks in the sex industry and there only place should be to advise women on the various thing's that make men tick. It is a fact that the sex industry is outlawed rather than regulated that allows the horrendous abuse of women around the world. Take the silly situation in the us where an under age girl can work as a prostitute for a pimp and the only people prosecutable are the client and the girl. The girl will not be treated as a child not be helped.
well, all women are in a sense prostitutes. they all expect something in return from men for sex - money, security, presents, protection, power etc. i even saw a documentary where male monkeys brought meat to females for sex... so females have always been like this... it`s natural. if the woman wants money for sex she is called prostitute but if she wants other things she is called wife or lover. i may seem narrow minded for women by saying this but it`s true, yes it is, i mean it, really, yes..
@andreiuta171 Not quite. I see where you're trying to go with it, but by saying that women expect something in return for sex, then saying that there's nothing wrong with that alludes to the fact that women are the only ones who play this game. Both men AND women are involved in this silly, natural dance of attraction/expectation/dating/mating. Men and women are attracted to things, and the whole game is to decipher what the other person wants/needs so you can give it to get your wants/needs.
@anreiuta171 In other words, ALL women don't "sell" sex the way you are saying. Nor are ALL men "buying" sex, as you suggest. There is a subconscious version of that, but it's not JUST about selling/buying sex. It's about our natural instincts and interests - truly, what arouses us are things that have a subconscious link to our instincts of safety, longevity, and procreation. i.e. a girl who is attracted to a strong man is tapping into her need for security instinct.
@FlipLogic "not just for sex" of course our lives are more than just sex. That example with the girl attracted to a strong man is the perfect example of prostitution. Man gives protection for sex, girl receives protection for sex. it`s a currency. the goal of the man is sex and his currency is power/security but the goal of the girl is security and the currency is sex... simple.
@andreiuta171 Well, generally, men are more instinctually inclined to be sexually oriented, since it's kind of their genetic imperative to "spread the seed" and stuff. And women are more inclined toward preparing the nest and stuff, so needing that security and such for breeding purposes.
I'm mostly agreeing with you, I'm just trying to say it's a little more subconsciously/instinctually complicated than JUST quid-pro-quo. More like a whole chess game, than JUST trading one piece for another
@FlipLogic you are right about the reasons why this is the way it is, but i don`t see anything complicated subconsciously or instinctually...Of course we can philosophize about this all our lives but the fact is that women are very inclined to various forms of prostitution (due to genetic predisposition ) and men are not (because sex is their final goal ).Resuming to what we can see in the world, men pay and women receive( no matter what the currency is ).Just my opinion derived from observation
Ah, the voice of liberal-minded common-sense... from people who really haven't given the subject much thought... and have a simplistic idea of what it means to live in a free society. That's a society, by the way, not some mythical soup of atomised individuals all making the limited choices which are allowed them by the capitalist system. Sorry to rain on your parade by being all "real" and that, but this kind of bs has already normalised paid-sex in Aust & NZ, and that makes things much worse.
I wouldn't do it myself but I do agree. Women shouldn't be locked up because that's the only way they know how to make money or the only way they enjoy. I do think the same goes for anyone keep in mind. I will say I don't believe it is a wise choice but if it is what is desired who am I to say no? Freedom isn't freedom if sexual interactions something of a private matter are being looked down on.
That said I'm not that type of girl even if I were homeless I'd never do that it'd ruin my psyche.
I hope they never legalize prostitution, because I like to rough up my prozzies and not pay them. I wouldn't want them to be able to call a cop and have me arrested for theft of service.
I think if you want to make money on the side during college by being a pornographic actress that's fine, but I can't respect it as a serious career choice. It's a worthless job that doesn't add much to society imo. However I am for that women should have the RIGHT to get into the porn or prostitution industry anytime they want as long as it's controlled and have decent rules that protect the workers, even if I wouldn't support the prostitution industry myself for moral reasons.
This is really an old discussion, which continues to be taboo in most of the world. But many societies in europe have settled the issue a long time ago. Have a look at how they deal with this in the Netherlands, and some nordic countries, where they've taken a very rational and sensible approach. But the problem is deeper and we should be discussing politics and economics....
no prostitution. im against it on moral grounds. it simply makes women look like nothing more than sexual objects. it dehumanizes them. should a person have the "right" to do this to themselves. no i say. im more authoritarian in nature. people would only have the "right" to do something meaningful with their lives.
ny gov elliot spitzer: NASTY. a high-end whore, earning a reported $5,000, a trusted man of service, engaged in immorality (betrayal of citizens or how about the betrayal of HIS WIFE), living selfishly & indulgently in the face of such ECONOMIC & HEALTH crisis in america & globally! wiki/Eliot_Spitzer_prostitution_scandal
if sex is the means of bringing in the money... FIGURE OUT THE REST, "KIDS".
In sweden it's legal to sell sex, but illegal to buy sex. Some people find that strange, I don't think it's any stranger than that it's illegal to rape someone, but legal to get raped. You're free to do what you want with your own body, but you're not free to use your means of power (money) to use someone elses body sexually against their will. It's possible a prostitute wants to have sex, but then, why charge for it? The money is a power factor and a clear sign that it's not entirely voluntary
@Laseranders I'm a chef and love cooking and thats what I want to do. According to your logic if I want to do it I should not be able to get paid. I think what i do is voluntary and like that I can do it for money, so does this mean that anyone that enjoys there job is being taken advantage of ?
@WhereInthEworldisweS Cooking and sex is not comparable. According to your logic, teaching your kid to give blowjobs is like teaching them to boil pasta. It's very important to always be in charge of ones own sexuality and only having sex because you want to have sex. It's not as important to be in charge of ones own cooking and only cook because you want to cook. I guess you can't see that.
@WhereInthEworldisweS So if you like my food and want to give me money for it thats you using your power over me? Yet if I want you do give me money for the food I make you, that is wrong because you have power?
just to follow this up with something, religious people are pretty much all stupid. if they're not stupid, then they're incredibly dishonest to themselves. which is almost worse because it's so wasteful to one's potential.
I am an atheist male and a feminist as well as a masculinist. I believe sexual freedom is a cornerstone for any free society, in which the "P's" are natural manifestations, and should be legal but regulated. This is what it means to have a free society, and the prudes are free to be prudish with themselves, but not with others. As far as if "feels she has no choice"--I agree that's bad, but in truth, how many of us are already doing jobs we (men and women) feel we have no choice to do?
I have no idea why I'm commenting on this again, but here goes anyway. You said in this video "If someone wants to be a prostitute, male or female, they should be allowed to be." What about of I want you to be a prostitute against your will. What if I want your 10 yr old daughter to give out hand jobs on the weekends ? Are you in favor of that ? How about I assault you until you suck a dick so that way you know the next time what will happen if you don't. Ain't prostitution grand ?
@Rahn127 10 you have no right to impose someone like this, you are talking about rapes, and she is talking about the right to have consenting sex in exchange of money... BIG difference...
@majo271010 Prostitution isn't about having the right to do something. It's about being able to talk, threaten, beat or convince another person that they should go do what you want them to do with a complete stranger. They don't care about age or rape or even if you like doing it. It's all about making money by using a woman's body. In order to be able to prosecute anyone for prostitution, all acts of it must be illegal, even if the situation is between consensual adults
@Rahn127 you can say almost the same thing about pretty much any other work, factories for example, they use to have minors, didnt care about peoples health, and threaten them that they would be fired if they protest or even if they got sick, an as the state started regulating this things, minors are not allowed to work in factories, people have a minimum wage, you have vacations, can take a day for sickness, they cant just fire you with out explanation and you have the right to protest
@Rahn127 if the state regulates prostitution, they wouldnt be able to threaten them about turning them to the police, they would be more confortable asking police for protection because they wouldnt be persecuted
besides, in some legal burdels they even have cameras, so if anyone hits them, or do anything againt their will they can take legal action against them
even if it was legal it still wouldnt mean she might not be forced
so the subject of prostitution being legal or illegal is different than she having the right
we live in a society and the by voting we take decision and decided its more beneficial for society to be illegal, you still have the right to chose to do it but dont get caught..
its just that a society where prostitution is consider a job sounds stupid, so we have to make it illegal
theres always the jungle if you dont like the society
@solky1s how can it sound stupid when is actually one of the oldest jobs in history, and it is in all societies?
Job: A regular activity performed in exchange for payment
so even if its not legal, it is still consider a job, besides the only thing you do by keeping it illegal is taking protection from those who chose to sell their bodies
in legal burdels there is often a camara, so that if someone forces on them, hit them, or anything they didnt agree for, its on tape, safer for the workers
people say it's wrong if you were pushed into prostitution. how about the cab drivers that come here as refugees. THEY don't choose to be cab drivers, some of them were teachers or have degrees, but no one pushes to legislate against cab drivers
Sex positive feminist = I want to be free to be sexual, but stuffy patriarchal morality wants to rob me of my sexuality
Sex negative feminist = I don't want to be seen as sexual, but morally bankrupt patriarchy wants to objectify me
Either way women are victims and men are the bad guys, because that is the only unifying theme of feminism, women blaming men for their problems. So, either your a feminist, and you hate men, or you don't hate men, and you're not a feminist. To hell with feminism.
@ObserveReality, you clearly missed the part in which the sex-positive feminists blame the sex-negative ones (not patriarchy, you see?) for this problem.
See, the problem with you is that you oversimplify feminism and don't realize that the debate is a wee bit more diverse (there are more viewpoints in the market) than you say.
You get angry when they say that antifems are all frustrated rapists who wished they could get lucky... don't you?
So don't do the same to others. It doesn't work either.
Um, feminism isn't like atheism, feminism is like religion, where the only members who are decent people are the ones who don't really follow the belief. Feminism is a bunch of man haters, saying feminism is about equality is like saying islam is about peace, or that the christian god is loving, you just plain don't have a clue what your talking about.
@ObserveReality, even though I'm an atheist (or at least the difference between me and an atheist is sufficiently esoteric for the label to be a good descriptor), I have to disagree. Lots of atheists are not decent people at all, and tend to impose their opinions on others and mock and offend those who don't agree with them -- just like any religious fundamentalist, radfem... or antifem.
@Asehpe antifem is not a belief, it is an opposition to a belief, like atheism. As such neither have any core of views or rituals that are necessary to be a member, while religion and feminism do, because of this, we can examine religious beliefs and feminist beliefs, and understand what the belief is, and also the extent to which one follows it. A jerk atheist is equeally atheist as a nice atheist, a feminist who doesn't resent men is not as feminist as one who does as that is core to feminism.
@ObserveReality, I disagree, because in my experience antifems need a total denial of any possibility of the other side ever having a point as part of their dogma; if you don't accept that they don't accept you either. In fact some antifems play the same game and deny certain people their "seal of approval" (cf. the guy here in YouTube who criticizes "liberal antifems": it doesn't matter how much they criticize "academic feminism", as long as they vote democratic they're not "real antifems".)
@Asehpe there is no such thing as an "antifem, just people who don't buy in to feminism, like antinazi isnt a dogma, its people who don't buy into nazism. If feminists say anything that is true, its for the wrong reasons, like the bible can say Rome was a real place, does that make the bible true? Of course not, and if the bible says "thou shalt not kill" is it part correct?sure, but the bible is false. Just because a feminist can say the sky is blue doesn't mean feminists just made a point.
@ObserveReality, in principle, you should be right, but many antifems have already coalesced into a movement (based on denying that feminism could actuallly ever have a point, no matter how minor) with many representatives here on YouTube and elsewhere, and with similarly dogmatically structured beliefs. You rhetoric is a good example: you deny feminists the right to have any non-trivial points to make, now or ever, without actually counter-arguing, This is simply a kind of 'feministophobia'.
@ObserveReality (CONT). Furthermore, there are many feminist groups who do not condone anti-male beliefs, some with very outspoken feminist spokespeople (Hoff-Summers, Paglia, McElroy, Roiphe, etc.). By considering only those groups who insist on anti-male dogma as "feminist" you are actually agreeing with them: you are giving them the "seal of approval" as the only correct feminism. Which, I think, is simply wrong.
@Asehpe Feminism is about making women into victims and men into the enemy, and you're right, I am acknowledging that man hating feminism is the only real feminism, but I didn't make it that way, it always has been. If some clowns said that they were nazis but didn't hate jews I would say they weren't really nazis. Does that mean im giving jew hating nazis a seal of approval? of course not, I'm pointing out that nazism is biggoted, and you cannot refine it, and the same for feminism.
@ObserveReality, man hating feminism is not the only kind of feminism (cf. Roiphe, Paglia, Hoff-Sommers, McElroy, Young...); in fact in many ways it is a fringe phenomenon. Feminism is wrong about a number of things, and right about a number of others -- like most social criticism movements. You are not the one to judge: if the clows who didn't hate Jews contributed to the Nazi budget, wore Nazi uniforms, believed in Hitler and went around shouting Heil Hitler, then they're Nazis.
ugh, the christian morality. I have to admit the neofeminist who don't demand respect for their minds rather than their bodies but instead stress sexual liberation DO bother me, but I'm not a christian or morally opposed to the notion of a womans orgasm. What bothers me is when sexual liberation becomes the FOCAL point of the feminism because i definately agree with "love me for my mind not my body"
I'm against selling sex for money I think It should be free .but if a group of people want to do it it is ok with me but I think it should be legal so prostitutes can work in a safe environment
Just a correction healthyaddict: you used the term "selling themselves" which is incorrect. Selling oneself would, I suppose, be considered mutual slavery.
Prostitution is selling a service, much like a body massage, shoe shine, haircut, or what have you. The real question that should be asked concerning prostitution is this: If a male or female is raised with no trade or education to speak of, should society ban them from making money by giving others pleasure?
If I banged women for money, like a male escort, would I be a player or a prostitute? Ohio State? USC TROJANS OWNED THEIR ASSES TWICE XD but I don't play for them :(.
@MsSinaSix I really don't disagree with you. It's not the positive side that I hate, it's the negative one. In places like venzuela and thailand, there are many more prostitutes than in other places. Many of these women don't want to do what they are doing, but have to in order to live the life that they want. I don't want to "sweep it under the rug" like someone else said. I genuinely feel for these people because I know what it's like to be desperate.
@MsSinaSix No, i find your point easy to understand. but you cannot exclude my point just because it doesn't coincide with your own. (which is what the other person did). And please don't pull what I said out of context. Good for you that you are doing what you want and getting paid for it. That's great, but it's not like that for the majority of prostitutes. Just because a minority luck out and end up being able to do it in good conditions, it does not make it right on the whole.
@SuperGeo1987 Besides, sex should be free. And if people have to pay for it, that's sad. I'm sorry if other people don't understand me, or find my opinions old fashioned. I have my scruples, and I feel that largely these days, people lose their own all to quickly. No, I do not think that prostitution in a controlled environment is wrong. I just don't get why anyone would want to pay for sex when they can have it for free.
@SuperGeo1987 Yes sex should be free but women have the choice of who gets it or not. Nice guys finish last and they are usually the ones who have to listen to the women after they get cheated on by a roid monkey and asshole. They usually never learn and go after another idiot and leave once again the nice guys.
That basicly the dating game in a nutshell these days and its pretty fucking pathetic. Everyone who hates prostitution are prob part of the problem.
I used to be a sex-negative feminist and got into fights with my boyfriend all the time about it. After leaving him I realised that the anger I directed at women in the sex-industry came from jealousy and insecurity in my own relationship (he treated me like dirt). My boyfriend watched porn and went to strip clubs and I saw that as a threat. I now realise that the issue was with my scumbag boyfriend who made me feel like crap about myself and not the women on his computer screen.
just got you video response, sharing my thought about it... I'm not sure, I'm right because I didn't do much research yet, but i think what i'm saying makes sense.
Are these responses typical or are they selected for opinion? Because if there are opposing opinions I'd like to know why. Prostitution seems to me to be a no brainer.
If you want to protect the women then regulation is the only way. Regulation is only possible for legal practices not Illegal ones. As in you have to be twenty one to by booze but pot is available to anyone of any age.
The reasons that women get into prostitution are what worry me. I'd be willing to bet that no woman has ever got into hooking because she really truly wanted to. The reason they do it is because they have no money, or they were sold in the trafficking market, or they have to pay for tuition at university. It is exploitation of women, but the exploitation is mutual. The client is exploited for money, the woman for her vagina and other orifices.
@SuperGeo1987 What really gets me is that a man is exchanging his money for sexual pleasure, the woman is exchanging her sexual integrity for money. If you want to make money at selling sex, you have to sell it to people that you otherwise wouldn't sleep with, and you run the risk of being raped, beaten, stabbed, shot and killed with every person that you solicit. You can make money back, but it's near impossible to regain integrity once it's taken away.
@shashintokyo: Um, fun? Who's naive here? It might seem like an easy way to make money, but the cost to the woman's family, friends and personal life is massive. If simply chosen, then it's an immensely selfish choice.
A minority may have done some math and figured that five years on their back will earn as much as twenty in an office, but for most that leads to becoming trapped by addiction, abuse, and poverty.
Both sides, pro and anti, have unrealistic ideas on this issue.
@JCLeSinge You.. you are the naive one. You push your views and values onto others and believe that you must be right. I personally have several prostitute friends who have discussed this very issue with me. Yes, they are having fun, either that or they are lying to me. They have great friends and good families, they are not drug addicted, trapped in poverty, abused or living in poverty. Seems you only have one stereotypical viewpoint.
@shashintokyo: Nice ad hominem; my views must be incorrect because I voice them. I see.
I have friends who are hookers too. Why do they do it? Easy money, lots of parties... and besides being hooked on cocaine and alcohol, at least one of them (that I know of, because she told me) was abused as a child.
I don't think your friends are lying to you; they may not be telling you the full story. though. Do you know them well enough for them to confide things like that?
@JCLeSinge I've been in the sex industry for over 8 years now, and I've made a lot of friends in a variety of different areas of the sex industry. I know a lot of successful, healthy, happy, functioning members of society who do prostitution. I think the most honest assessment is that experiences in the sex industry can vary wildly. I wouldn't say "most people" end up in a bad situation, I don't know how anyone could know what life is like for "most" prostitutes.
No disagreement there; that's the essence of my point. Both sides of the debate here are being naive; the anti-brigade are on a thinly-veiled moral crusade, the pro-squad are in denial.
I think prostitution should be legalized; the sex trade is a fact and prohibition only exacerbates the dangers that attend the industry. However, I also believe that the underlying problems in society that propagate the sex trade need to be addressed.
@JCLeSinge I agree entirely. However, I think the most pressing issues that create and perpetuate bad experiences in the sex industry (by which I mean people who are engaged in "survival sex") are largely a result of poverty, and survival sex is just one symptom of that. I think if we implemented more actions that help address poverty, we'd see a lot of problems in the sex industry start to dissipate. Not go away entirely obviously, but it would make a huge difference.
"Survival Sex" is very much the point, be it financial or emotional survival; those are the areas that need to be addressed, and they're inherently linked to an unhealthy society that objectifies everything, from sex to anything else you care to name.
It's that question "why" that swings this debate for me; "why" would a person, male or female, become involved in the sex industry? Poverty, drug addiction, outright force or indeed low self-esteem are not valid reasons, and I don't think you'd find many people in the industry who didn't satisfy at least one of those criteria. As a conscious career path, prostitution is not a good choice; in every other profession, one's earnings rise over time; prostitution, the reverse is true.
@JCLeSinge For your last point, the same is true for models, athletes, and others as well. That part fails. I agree with the why. Still, why do ANYTHING you don't really like? How many people have the luxury of working a job they truly love?
@scitzz: You've misunderstood my point. I'm not talking about earnings rising to a peak and then dropping towards the end of a career; you're right in that models, actors and athletes often follow that pattern.
Prostitution as a career is unique in that earnings never exceed entry level; a girl may start hooking for anything from $1,000,000 to $50 a pop, and (while she may experience fluctuations), her earnings from there will fall; unless she quits, eventually she'll be putting out for change.
I have lived in Columbus for about 20 years now. THE Ohio State University "thing" is the single most obnoxious thing i have ever heard in my life.
Other than that, I agree with your video...being the sick, twisted, god hating, woman hating atheist that i am. (Since the bible clearly speaks of women in such wonderful terms and treats them as equals.....Oh wait scratch that)
"I'm a feminist" LOL I wonder how many people wanted to just pause the video after 5 seconds and start posting hate comments about how much they hate feminists.
On the other subject (feminism) I get angry with the really far out Down-with-men types. I just feel they are hurting their own cause and provoking a reaction.
Yes! Prostitution Tax! I’m on board as long as its taxed! That and weed should be made legal, and taxed to pay for Universal Healthcare! I’m not being Facieses here! Just want to make that clear… I’m really not!
I agree largely with the person w/o visual rep, but I suppose an objection to be made is that prostitutes often have PTSD & that: “The American Journal of Epidemiology published a meticulous study finding that the ‘workplace homicide rate for prostitutes’ is 51 times that of the next most dangerous occupation for women, working in a liquor store. The average age of death of the prostitutes in the study was 34.” - NYT op-ed by Kristof, March 08. There was a similar article by Zuger in Aug '98
Prostitution is a difficult one, because no matter whether it is legal or not, I think there will always be an illegal side to it, where people are exploited.
@fourtrees44 exploitation is the foundation of captialism why wouldn't you think that would manifest itself in prostitution. Equality is a man made ideal. We are not created equal. Some are stronger, taller, and smarter than others.
I have read books about the brothels in Nevada. it is well regulated there. The women are always getting checked for sexually transmitted diseases and they get a criminal background check before they can work there. The owner of the bunny Ranch Dennis Hof seems to treat the workers there good.
besides, prostitutes tend to become victims of so many other crimes later on. how is that ever good? it's a hard problem to solve i agree but saying legalize it? is that really what we should say? have you any idea the implications? are you sure you would want it? what if a guy rapes a girl, leaves some money with her and says in court later on "she told me she was a prostitute" which in your world is legal. sound like a good thing to you? this world is so ugly sometimes. precautions are needed.
i don't know what should be done, but letting women who are obviously doing stuff that is bad for them (re living the horror of rape) and eventually completely dissociate their "work day" seems wrong to me. I don't pretend to have a solution, but I wish something be done about it... I highly doubt it is anyone's career path
why would a woman become a prostitute have you ever thought about it?
I bet you are thinking money, pay for collage, or anything else.
though if you look at recent statistics you will see that most prostitutes are actually ex-rape victims. those victims choose to relive their horror because of a number of reasons, but mainly because they get addicted to the pain in it. though i am all for free enterprise, i think prostitution is mainly bad for women and would rather something be done about it
This is an argument against the argument of prostitution being a career choice. It's bullshit and really shouldn't be thrown around lightly. My problem with prostitution is human trafficking, casue you know what, surprise surprise women do not choose to enter this brilliant career so when there is demand in a country where it is legalized that demand will be met with trafficked people. That's just the terrible reality of this lovely career.
You or someone else on your video said that if its a career choice after they've been educated then it's ok. I wanna meet a prostitute who is educate and actually choose this as her career choice. What people keep saying is that these people want to be prostitutes, adn criss even had some of these people on her second vid, but none of them wanted to be in the industry either, they just had hard times in life and saw it as a way out, not as a career. This is not an argument against legalization
i think a lot of our society's problems could be solved by focusing more on love and sex than on violence and drugs. drugs should be legalized if not for other reasons, but to stop gangs, organized crime, murder, and pushers. prostitution for the same reason. if people had legal prostitutes to go to, the STD infested drug hooked streetwalkers would not exist. my only problem with casual sex is the possibility of STD transmission. most people who transmit STDs do so without knowledge.
however, legal prostitution would help solve this problem. the female and male prostitutes would have to get tested every few months for STDs and we could even have the customers required to be tested within three months of a visit. that would drastically increase the handle, control, and diagnosis of STDs helping to solve the problem.
I'm sure there are quite a few women out there who would rather get paid a couple hundred bucks an hour to have sex with a stranger rather then wait tables or flip burgers for minimum wage. It's their choice.
@thevasc21 I'm a feminist. I am male. As healthyaddict pointed out, "feminist" groups a very large variety of people together. But, I am for equal rights of women, I value women, and their opinions, and I reject various misogynistic attitudes and ideas.
theres a difference between wanting to do something and choosing to do something, the latter depends on the range of alternate options you have
i find it curious that you group prostitution with sexual freedom, prostitution (in most cases) is more akin to human slavery
i think it is a little naive to go around spouting what a great career option prostitution is if you are not currently a prostitute yourself - if you are a prostitute then carry on spouting
@jules11117 Oh, semasiologistics already went down this road, and you somehow turned it into a flame war...basically, everything he said is right, your reasons are little more than your own personal thoughts on the subject, not backed up by any actual evidence. I think I'm done talking about this with you, as he got nowhere, I can see I won't either. It would be nice if you could at least be intellectually honest about it.
@jules11117 First of all, you're tying two things together that do not have any direct causal chain, "Women have sex with men for money, so men treat me a certain way",is not a statement based on any proof or direct cause.Secondly, even if true, that wouldn't give you the right to control another person's body, or what two people decide to do in private. Its frankly none of your business.
It is as simple as"my body, my choice",do you disagree that their body is theirs? Is it yours? the state's?
@jules11117 Firstly, I can see that you are going out of your way to take offense(at this video, and my comment), as you even took offense to my "such as yours" comment, with which any normal evenly balanced person would realize that I obviously meant that you're clearly against it, from what you HAD already said, I am not pre-judging you, I am judging you, there's a difference.
Now, on to what you said, I must say that I don't agree with anything you said. cont.
@jules11117, If you aren't confused or terribly immature, and if you aren't sexually frustrated and thus affronting, and if by some atlantic stretch of the imagination you have found refuge in a language I didn't read, your rudeness indeed far outweighs that education of which you seem to speak so fondly. I leave you to the self-appointedness at which you have, undoubtedly, long excelled.
A new freshman woman who gives 2 blowjobs a day, $40 each, working 10 months of the year, will have earned for herself $96,000 by the time she graduates in 4 years. (That's all profit if her parents are paying for all of her other expenses.) $40 is a mere 2 twenty dollar bills from an ATM. Target nerdy freshmen men (of which there are tons), get some semi-regulars... A woman of even average looks could easily pull this off.
@jules11117 Jules, but what she says in this video is logic, if you disagree with it, it could be being antisex. The act of sex is the same wether you get paid or not. so why hate sex so much, when a few bucks are exchagned?? I do think that the majority who opose it are fall into those two groups. or pricks, or someone who gets anoyed by it. tell mw what your reson is then?
adults should have the right to choose what they want to do behind close doors
@jules11117 I said women dealing with sexism was a stereotype? A stroke of diligence might do you well with so prig an attitude. Stereotype is the word and was contextualized as such. You said: "All women are treated like sex-objects." No, they aren't. Now, if you wouldn't mind actually demonstrating a point, I'd be happy to DISCUSS and ARTICULATE like and contrasting sociological theories. Until then, keep your wiener wit for the fixture of shit in which it belongs.
@jules11117, what has been said is simple enough. You postulated something for which you provided absolutely no evidence and tried to tell me that it was my job to prove a negative. That's it. You are not a philosopher if you are using 'proof' outside law and mathmatics, and later using antonyms for charlatan and idiotic, then that's your education, as you chose to talk about. Like I said, I didn't expect you were serious in your opinions and everybody's got one...so...keep digging.
If you were really serious, you would have provided some evidence instead of just a broad claim like that. So, if that's all you have to 'disagree' with prostitution, you'd better dig a bit deeper. Nice try on adopting my position, though. :)
@jules11117 (2) As regards your second point, No, advertising and prostitution are not one and the same, completely distinct. 3. Yes, of course prostitution IS mostly the selling of women as sex objects. So what? And, yes, of course media uses the female image as a means of advertisement. So does art and poetry and on. That does not mean that all these domains in every society are being forced to treat women like sex objects. Please, save the Yes/no argument and say something.
@jules11117, no, you repeated yourself because you did not understand that my criticism meant that you had to provide something above and beyond the mere assertion. Also, when you say it's my responsibility to prove that it's not a stereotype, that's like saying that it's my job to prove that there is no ghost behind me simply because you said there was one. Sorry, if you're the one claiming that there is a ghost (all women are treated like sex objects) then it's up to you to demonstrate that.
@jules, You said all women are treated like sex products because of prostitution, which I questioned. Then, you repeated yourself. It seems that you don't understand. My saying that it's a stereotype means that you need to show your case, since you're the one asserting it true.
2. I spoke about prostitution, not one society's advertising industry in the 21st c.
3. I said sometimes because it is not ordinarily the case and cannot be attributed to prostitution simply because you label it a result.
@jules11117 Please provide some sources for these claims. Can you really argue that prostitutes are safer under prohibition?
It's morally wrong to make it illegal because it's none of our business if one person marries for money, or only dates rich people. It's not our business either if another is more honest and efficient about same.
Prostitution prohibition is also impossible to enforce making a mockery of law enforcement and taking resources from real crime.
@jules11117 Spend less time trying to belittle plese. Just say what it is you have to say. My point about longevity is that attempts to stop it are always unsuccessful. I'm familiar with black markets which make things like marijuana and prostitution deadly. Prostitution is legal in many places and I think such places provide a compelling model with prostitutes who are safer and pimps as we know them out of business. COYOTE by the way is made up of prostitutes and people who work with them.
@Jules, Not sure where your first 'point' gets any communicating human being.
As regards the second point, I was not contending legalization but critiquing your opinion that "all women are lumped into the same category as prostitutes, in that they are treated like assets." A stereotype.
The third point, was not contending legalization either but debasing your erroneous misnomer of sexual incivilities. Like I said, sexual violence can be attributed to many 'institutions.'
Prostitution will always exist, has always existed. Keeping it illegal makes it more dangerous and harmful to the prostitutes. I support COYOTE (Cast Off Your Old Tired Ethics) and I think that prostitution should be legal.
1. Women are sometimes bothered (on the street) by men who want sex.--Yes, there are some 'problem people' out there, such does not mean, however, that prostitution has no economy, safeground or effecacy or, does not largely outweigh that which seems like a non sequitur in the first place.
2. Women are not stereoytyped in the said way, much less, all women.
3. "Prostitution" is sometimes the cause of such but, what should be evident is that, there are countless causes, vs. just one.
@jules11117: So let me get this right. You're against prostitution because some women are sexually exploited, and also, because prostitution sells women as sex objects, which causes the rest of the world to view women in the same way, as sex objects? Is that right?
@jules11117 "I'm against prostitution because you cannot keep its consequences neatly in the boundaries of prositition."--Jules, would you mind rephrasing this last sentence, I don't understand what you mean.
"It thrives on the idea that the female body is a luxury good."--What does? Prositition? Of course women are luxury goods, sexually speaking. So are men's bodies. But this is not all they are. It just depends on how people see things.
@jules11117 Its very strange that you would say that, did you watch the video? She asked people to post videos about their views, the whole video was made for people with opinions such as yours. You must not have really watched it.
In any case, please do tell, why do you disagree? I'm certainly not afraid of any discussion. And I'm quite sure she isn't either.
Being a man, I believe that your point of view is the most logical and liberal, not forcing upon others your views, it should be more disseminated to others.
In unrelated news, smart and good looking gal there, a rare breed, a rare breed indeed, kudos.

Zain844 1 month ago
I am a male supporter of the sex-positive feminist movement. I am indeed a very sexual and sensual person. However, I must say that many young women are exploited by the pornography industry. Why can one not have a drink until age 21 but can sell themselves on camera in front of the world (which can and will come back to haunt them) on their 18th birthdays. Watching extreme hardcore porn also desensitizes people and causes them to seek ever more extreme acts in their own lives.

This is a moral issue, then. Without religion, there is no real foundation for morality. So how would there be any disagreement?
acdemmon 3 months ago

The way I figure it, is that they are not afraid to have guiding principles or moral standards.
pooptickler1337 3 months ago
This video makes me laugh with her saying she doesn't give a bad name to the groups she supposedly represents. She gives a bad name to atheists by labelling pro-life activists as "stupid motherfuckers"? She gives a bad name to feminists by supporting prostitution - which leads women to become dependent on men for drugs and money.
Being sexually expressive or "sex positive" has NOTHING to do with having sex for money.
I like how she pretends like she's open to different views. Bullshit.

WilliamOnTheRocks 5 months ago
why the soft sell? Men are just cocks in the sex industry and there only place should be to advise women on the various thing's that make men tick. It is a fact that the sex industry is outlawed rather than regulated that allows the horrendous abuse of women around the world. Take the silly situation in the us where an under age girl can work as a prostitute for a pimp and the only people prosecutable are the client and the girl. The girl will not be treated as a child not be helped.
way2jaded1 6 months ago
well, all women are in a sense prostitutes. they all expect something in return from men for sex - money, security, presents, protection, power etc. i even saw a documentary where male monkeys brought meat to females for sex... so females have always been like this... it`s natural. if the woman wants money for sex she is called prostitute but if she wants other things she is called wife or lover. i may seem narrow minded for women by saying this but it`s true, yes it is, i mean it, really, yes..
andreiuta171 6 months ago 2
@andreiuta171 Not quite. I see where you're trying to go with it, but by saying that women expect something in return for sex, then saying that there's nothing wrong with that alludes to the fact that women are the only ones who play this game. Both men AND women are involved in this silly, natural dance of attraction/expectation/dating/mating. Men and women are attracted to things, and the whole game is to decipher what the other person wants/needs so you can give it to get your wants/needs.
FlipLogic 4 months ago
@anreiuta171 In other words, ALL women don't "sell" sex the way you are saying. Nor are ALL men "buying" sex, as you suggest. There is a subconscious version of that, but it's not JUST about selling/buying sex. It's about our natural instincts and interests - truly, what arouses us are things that have a subconscious link to our instincts of safety, longevity, and procreation. i.e. a girl who is attracted to a strong man is tapping into her need for security instinct.
It's not just for sex
FlipLogic 4 months ago
@FlipLogic "not just for sex" of course our lives are more than just sex. That example with the girl attracted to a strong man is the perfect example of prostitution. Man gives protection for sex, girl receives protection for sex. it`s a currency. the goal of the man is sex and his currency is power/security but the goal of the girl is security and the currency is sex... simple.
andreiuta171 4 months ago
@FlipLogic well, men that want something in return for sex are the exception from the rule not the rule. for women it`s the other way round.
andreiuta171 4 months ago
@andreiuta171 Well, generally, men are more instinctually inclined to be sexually oriented, since it's kind of their genetic imperative to "spread the seed" and stuff. And women are more inclined toward preparing the nest and stuff, so needing that security and such for breeding purposes.
I'm mostly agreeing with you, I'm just trying to say it's a little more subconsciously/instinctually complicated than JUST quid-pro-quo. More like a whole chess game, than JUST trading one piece for another
FlipLogic 4 months ago
@FlipLogic you are right about the reasons why this is the way it is, but i don`t see anything complicated subconsciously or instinctually...Of course we can philosophize about this all our lives but the fact is that women are very inclined to various forms of prostitution (due to genetic predisposition ) and men are not (because sex is their final goal ).Resuming to what we can see in the world, men pay and women receive( no matter what the currency is ).Just my opinion derived from observation
andreiuta171 4 months ago
@andreiuta171 Ok. I think we are mostly on the same page, just with slightly different definitions.
The main things I wanted to stress were that it's more complicated than all that, but fundamentally, you're right.
And also that that is the general case, and there's always exceptions to these rules. Otherwise, I feel we are in total agreement^^
FlipLogic 4 months ago
Ah, the voice of liberal-minded common-sense... from people who really haven't given the subject much thought... and have a simplistic idea of what it means to live in a free society.

Laseranders 11 months ago
@Laseranders I'm a chef and love cooking and thats what I want to do. According to your logic if I want to do it I should not be able to get paid. I think what i do is voluntary and like that I can do it for money, so does this mean that anyone that enjoys there job is being taken advantage of ?
WhereInthEworldisweS 9 months ago
@WhereInthEworldisweS Cooking and sex is not comparable. According to your logic, teaching your kid to give blowjobs is like teaching them to boil pasta. It's very important to always be in charge of ones own sexuality and only having sex because you want to have sex. It's not as important to be in charge of ones own cooking and only cook because you want to cook. I guess you can't see that.

Rahn127 1 year ago
@Rahn127 10 you have no right to impose someone like this, you are talking about rapes, and she is talking about the right to have consenting sex in exchange of money... BIG difference...
majo271010 1 year ago
@majo271010 Prostitution isn't about having the right to do something. It's about being able to talk, threaten, beat or convince another person that they should go do what you want them to do with a complete stranger. They don't care about age or rape or even if you like doing it. It's all about making money by using a woman's body. In order to be able to prosecute anyone for prostitution, all acts of it must be illegal, even if the situation is between consensual adults
Rahn127 1 year ago
@Rahn127 you can say almost the same thing about pretty much any other work, factories for example, they use to have minors, didnt care about peoples health, and threaten them that they would be fired if they protest or even if they got sick, an as the state started regulating this things, minors are not allowed to work in factories, people have a minimum wage, you have vacations, can take a day for sickness, they cant just fire you with out explanation and you have the right to protest
majo271010 1 year ago
@Rahn127 if the state regulates prostitution, they wouldnt be able to threaten them about turning them to the police, they would be more confortable asking police for protection because they wouldnt be persecuted
besides, in some legal burdels they even have cameras, so if anyone hits them, or do anything againt their will they can take legal action against them
majo271010 1 year ago
even if it was legal it still wouldnt mean she might not be forced
so the subject of prostitution being legal or illegal is different than she having the right
we live in a society and the by voting we take decision and decided its more beneficial for society to be illegal, you still have the right to chose to do it but dont get caught..
its just that a society where prostitution is consider a job sounds stupid, so we have to make it illegal
theres always the jungle if you dont like the society
solky1s 1 year ago
@solky1s how can it sound stupid when is actually one of the oldest jobs in history, and it is in all societies?
Job: A regular activity performed in exchange for payment
so even if its not legal, it is still consider a job, besides the only thing you do by keeping it illegal is taking protection from those who chose to sell their bodies
in legal burdels there is often a camara, so that if someone forces on them, hit them, or anything they didnt agree for, its on tape, safer for the workers
majo271010 1 year ago

Sex positive feminist = I want to be free to be sexual, but stuffy patriarchal morality wants to rob me of my sexuality
Sex negative feminist = I don't want to be seen as sexual, but morally bankrupt patriarchy wants to objectify me
Either way women are victims and men are the bad guys, because that is the only unifying theme of feminism, women blaming men for their problems. So, either your a feminist, and you hate men, or you don't hate men, and you're not a feminist. To hell with feminism.
ObserveReality 1 year ago
@ObserveReality, you clearly missed the part in which the sex-positive feminists blame the sex-negative ones (not patriarchy, you see?) for this problem.
See, the problem with you is that you oversimplify feminism and don't realize that the debate is a wee bit more diverse (there are more viewpoints in the market) than you say.
You get angry when they say that antifems are all frustrated rapists who wished they could get lucky... don't you?
So don't do the same to others. It doesn't work either.
Asehpe 1 year ago
Um, feminism isn't like atheism, feminism is like religion, where the only members who are decent people are the ones who don't really follow the belief. Feminism is a bunch of man haters, saying feminism is about equality is like saying islam is about peace, or that the christian god is loving, you just plain don't have a clue what your talking about.
ObserveReality 1 year ago
@ObserveReality, even though I'm an atheist (or at least the difference between me and an atheist is sufficiently esoteric for the label to be a good descriptor), I have to disagree. Lots of atheists are not decent people at all, and tend to impose their opinions on others and mock and offend those who don't agree with them -- just like any religious fundamentalist, radfem... or antifem.
Asehpe 1 year ago
@Asehpe antifem is not a belief, it is an opposition to a belief, like atheism. As such neither have any core of views or rituals that are necessary to be a member, while religion and feminism do, because of this, we can examine religious beliefs and feminist beliefs, and understand what the belief is, and also the extent to which one follows it. A jerk atheist is equeally atheist as a nice atheist, a feminist who doesn't resent men is not as feminist as one who does as that is core to feminism.
ObserveReality 1 year ago
@ObserveReality, I disagree, because in my experience antifems need a total denial of any possibility of the other side ever having a point as part of their dogma; if you don't accept that they don't accept you either. In fact some antifems play the same game and deny certain people their "seal of approval" (cf. the guy here in YouTube who criticizes "liberal antifems": it doesn't matter how much they criticize "academic feminism", as long as they vote democratic they're not "real antifems".)
Asehpe 1 year ago
@Asehpe there is no such thing as an "antifem, just people who don't buy in to feminism, like antinazi isnt a dogma, its people who don't buy into nazism. If feminists say anything that is true, its for the wrong reasons, like the bible can say Rome was a real place, does that make the bible true? Of course not, and if the bible says "thou shalt not kill" is it part correct?sure, but the bible is false. Just because a feminist can say the sky is blue doesn't mean feminists just made a point.
ObserveReality 1 year ago
@ObserveReality, in principle, you should be right, but many antifems have already coalesced into a movement (based on denying that feminism could actuallly ever have a point, no matter how minor) with many representatives here on YouTube and elsewhere, and with similarly dogmatically structured beliefs. You rhetoric is a good example: you deny feminists the right to have any non-trivial points to make, now or ever, without actually counter-arguing, This is simply a kind of 'feministophobia'.
Asehpe 1 year ago
@ObserveReality (CONT). Furthermore, there are many feminist groups who do not condone anti-male beliefs, some with very outspoken feminist spokespeople (Hoff-Summers, Paglia, McElroy, Roiphe, etc.). By considering only those groups who insist on anti-male dogma as "feminist" you are actually agreeing with them: you are giving them the "seal of approval" as the only correct feminism. Which, I think, is simply wrong.
Asehpe 1 year ago
@Asehpe Feminism is about making women into victims and men into the enemy, and you're right, I am acknowledging that man hating feminism is the only real feminism, but I didn't make it that way, it always has been. If some clowns said that they were nazis but didn't hate jews I would say they weren't really nazis. Does that mean im giving jew hating nazis a seal of approval? of course not, I'm pointing out that nazism is biggoted, and you cannot refine it, and the same for feminism.
ObserveReality 1 year ago
@ObserveReality, man hating feminism is not the only kind of feminism (cf. Roiphe, Paglia, Hoff-Sommers, McElroy, Young...); in fact in many ways it is a fringe phenomenon. Feminism is wrong about a number of things, and right about a number of others -- like most social criticism movements. You are not the one to judge: if the clows who didn't hate Jews contributed to the Nazi budget, wore Nazi uniforms, believed in Hitler and went around shouting Heil Hitler, then they're Nazis.
Asehpe 1 year ago
ugh, the christian morality. I have to admit the neofeminist who don't demand respect for their minds rather than their bodies but instead stress sexual liberation DO bother me, but I'm not a christian or morally opposed to the notion of a womans orgasm. What bothers me is when sexual liberation becomes the FOCAL point of the feminism because i definately agree with "love me for my mind not my body"

helloworlditisme 1 year ago
Just a correction healthyaddict: you used the term "selling themselves" which is incorrect. Selling oneself would, I suppose, be considered mutual slavery.
Prostitution is selling a service, much like a body massage, shoe shine, haircut, or what have you. The real question that should be asked concerning prostitution is this: If a male or female is raised with no trade or education to speak of, should society ban them from making money by giving others pleasure?
...and there you go.

HybridD91 1 year ago
@MsSinaSix I really don't disagree with you. It's not the positive side that I hate, it's the negative one. In places like venzuela and thailand, there are many more prostitutes than in other places. Many of these women don't want to do what they are doing, but have to in order to live the life that they want. I don't want to "sweep it under the rug" like someone else said. I genuinely feel for these people because I know what it's like to be desperate.
SuperGeo1987 1 year ago
@MsSinaSix No, i find your point easy to understand. but you cannot exclude my point just because it doesn't coincide with your own. (which is what the other person did). And please don't pull what I said out of context. Good for you that you are doing what you want and getting paid for it. That's great, but it's not like that for the majority of prostitutes. Just because a minority luck out and end up being able to do it in good conditions, it does not make it right on the whole.
SuperGeo1987 1 year ago
@SuperGeo1987 Besides, sex should be free. And if people have to pay for it, that's sad. I'm sorry if other people don't understand me, or find my opinions old fashioned. I have my scruples, and I feel that largely these days, people lose their own all to quickly. No, I do not think that prostitution in a controlled environment is wrong. I just don't get why anyone would want to pay for sex when they can have it for free.
SuperGeo1987 1 year ago

I now realise that the issue was with my scumbag boyfriend who made me feel like crap about myself and not the women on his computer screen.

shashintokyo 1 year ago
The reasons that women get into prostitution are what worry me. I'd be willing to bet that no woman has ever got into hooking because she really truly wanted to. The reason they do it is because they have no money, or they were sold in the trafficking market, or they have to pay for tuition at university. It is exploitation of women, but the exploitation is mutual. The client is exploited for money, the woman for her vagina and other orifices.
SuperGeo1987 1 year ago
@SuperGeo1987 What really gets me is that a man is exchanging his money for sexual pleasure, the woman is exchanging her sexual integrity for money. If you want to make money at selling sex, you have to sell it to people that you otherwise wouldn't sleep with, and you run the risk of being raped, beaten, stabbed, shot and killed with every person that you solicit. You can make money back, but it's near impossible to regain integrity once it's taken away.
SuperGeo1987 1 year ago
@SuperGeo1987 Wow... you are so naive. Many women do it by choice because it can be a fun and easy way to earn far more money than working in a 7-11.
shashintokyo 1 year ago
@shashintokyo: Um, fun? Who's naive here? It might seem like an easy way to make money, but the cost to the woman's family, friends and personal life is massive. If simply chosen, then it's an immensely selfish choice.
A minority may have done some math and figured that five years on their back will earn as much as twenty in an office, but for most that leads to becoming trapped by addiction, abuse, and poverty.
Both sides, pro and anti, have unrealistic ideas on this issue.
JCLeSinge 1 year ago
@JCLeSinge You.. you are the naive one. You push your views and values onto others and believe that you must be right. I personally have several prostitute friends who have discussed this very issue with me. Yes, they are having fun, either that or they are lying to me. They have great friends and good families, they are not drug addicted, trapped in poverty, abused or living in poverty. Seems you only have one stereotypical viewpoint.
shashintokyo 1 year ago
@shashintokyo: Nice ad hominem; my views must be incorrect because I voice them. I see.
I have friends who are hookers too. Why do they do it? Easy money, lots of parties... and besides being hooked on cocaine and alcohol, at least one of them (that I know of, because she told me) was abused as a child.
I don't think your friends are lying to you; they may not be telling you the full story. though. Do you know them well enough for them to confide things like that?
JCLeSinge 1 year ago
@JCLeSinge I've been in the sex industry for over 8 years now, and I've made a lot of friends in a variety of different areas of the sex industry. I know a lot of successful, healthy, happy, functioning members of society who do prostitution. I think the most honest assessment is that experiences in the sex industry can vary wildly. I wouldn't say "most people" end up in a bad situation, I don't know how anyone could know what life is like for "most" prostitutes.
PriscillaRelentless 1 year ago
@PriscillaRelentless "Experiences can vary wildly."
JCLeSinge 1 year ago
@JCLeSinge I agree entirely. However, I think the most pressing issues that create and perpetuate bad experiences in the sex industry (by which I mean people who are engaged in "survival sex") are largely a result of poverty, and survival sex is just one symptom of that. I think if we implemented more actions that help address poverty, we'd see a lot of problems in the sex industry start to dissipate. Not go away entirely obviously, but it would make a huge difference.
PriscillaRelentless 1 year ago
@PriscillaRelentless: YES! That's exactly what I'm driving at, thank you!
"Survival Sex" is very much the point, be it financial or emotional survival; those are the areas that need to be addressed, and they're inherently linked to an unhealthy society that objectifies everything, from sex to anything else you care to name.
JCLeSinge 1 year ago
It's that question "why" that swings this debate for me; "why" would a person, male or female, become involved in the sex industry? Poverty, drug addiction, outright force or indeed low self-esteem are not valid reasons, and I don't think you'd find many people in the industry who didn't satisfy at least one of those criteria. As a conscious career path, prostitution is not a good choice; in every other profession, one's earnings rise over time; prostitution, the reverse is true.
JCLeSinge 1 year ago
@JCLeSinge For your last point, the same is true for models, athletes, and others as well. That part fails. I agree with the why. Still, why do ANYTHING you don't really like? How many people have the luxury of working a job they truly love?
scitzz 1 year ago
@scitzz: You've misunderstood my point. I'm not talking about earnings rising to a peak and then dropping towards the end of a career; you're right in that models, actors and athletes often follow that pattern.
Prostitution as a career is unique in that earnings never exceed entry level; a girl may start hooking for anything from $1,000,000 to $50 a pop, and (while she may experience fluctuations), her earnings from there will fall; unless she quits, eventually she'll be putting out for change.

besides, prostitutes tend to become victims of so many other crimes later on. how is that ever good? it's a hard problem to solve i agree but saying legalize it? is that really what we should say? have you any idea the implications? are you sure you would want it? what if a guy rapes a girl, leaves some money with her and says in court later on "she told me she was a prostitute" which in your world is legal. sound like a good thing to you? this world is so ugly sometimes. precautions are needed.

i don't know what should be done, but letting women who are obviously doing stuff that is bad for them (re living the horror of rape) and eventually completely dissociate their "work day" seems wrong to me. shai32 1 year ago
why would a woman become a prostitute have you ever thought about it?
I bet you are thinking money, pay for collage, or anything else.
though if you look at recent statistics you will see that most prostitutes are actually ex-rape victims. those victims choose to relive their horror because of a number of reasons, but mainly because they get addicted to the pain in it. though i am all for free enterprise, i think prostitution is mainly bad for women and would rather something be done about it
shai32 1 year ago
This is an argument against the argument of prostitution being a career choice. It's bullshit and really shouldn't be thrown around lightly. My problem with prostitution is human trafficking, casue you know what, surprise surprise women do not choose to enter this brilliant career so when there is demand in a country where it is legalized that demand will be met with trafficked people. That's just the terrible reality of this lovely career.
OriginalBeast 1 year ago
You or someone else on your video said that if its a career choice after they've been educated then it's ok. I wanna meet a prostitute who is educate and actually choose this as her career choice. What people keep saying is that these people want to be prostitutes, adn criss even had some of these people on her second vid, but none of them wanted to be in the industry either, they just had hard times in life and saw it as a way out, not as a career. This is not an argument against legalization
OriginalBeast 1 year ago
i think a lot of our society's problems could be solved by focusing more on love and sex than on violence and drugs. drugs should be legalized if not for other reasons, but to stop gangs, organized crime, murder, and pushers. prostitution for the same reason. if people had legal prostitutes to go to, the STD infested drug hooked streetwalkers would not exist. my only problem with casual sex is the possibility of STD transmission. most people who transmit STDs do so without knowledge.
drummingdude2007 1 year ago
however, legal prostitution would help solve this problem. the female and male prostitutes would have to get tested every few months for STDs and we could even have the customers required to be tested within three months of a visit. that would drastically increase the handle, control, and diagnosis of STDs helping to solve the problem.
drummingdude2007 1 year ago
I'm sure there are quite a few women out there who would rather get paid a couple hundred bucks an hour to have sex with a stranger rather then wait tables or flip burgers for minimum wage. It's their choice.

theres a difference between wanting to do something and choosing to do something, the latter depends on the range of alternate options you have
i find it curious that you group prostitution with sexual freedom, prostitution (in most cases) is more akin to human slavery
i think it is a little naive to go around spouting what a great career option prostitution is if you are not currently a prostitute yourself - if you are a prostitute then carry on spouting

@jules11117 Oh, semasiologistics already went down this road, and you somehow turned it into a flame war...basically, everything he said is right, your reasons are little more than your own personal thoughts on the subject, not backed up by any actual evidence.

@jules11117, what has been said is simple enough. You postulated something for which you provided absolutely no evidence and tried to tell me that it was my job to prove a negative. That's it. @jules11117, Welcome to Science :)
If you were really serious, you would have provided some evidence instead of just a broad claim like that. So, if that's all you have to 'disagree' with prostitution, you'd better dig a bit deeper. Nice try on adopting my position, though. :)
semasiologistics 1 year ago
@jules11117 (2) As regards your second point, No, advertising and prostitution are not one and the same, completely distinct. 3. Yes, of course prostitution IS mostly the selling of women as sex objects. So what? And, yes, of course media uses the female image as a means of advertisement. So does art and poetry and on. That does not mean that all these domains in every society are being forced to treat women like sex objects. Please, save the Yes/no argument and say something.
semasiologistics 1 year ago
@jules11117, no, you repeated yourself because you did not understand that my criticism meant that you had to provide something above and beyond the mere assertion. Also, when you say it's my responsibility to prove that it's not a stereotype, that's like saying that it's my job to prove that there is no ghost behind me simply because you said there was one. Sorry, if you're the one claiming that there is a ghost (all women are treated like sex objects) then it's up to you to demonstrate that.
semasiologistics 1 year ago
@jules, You said all women are treated like sex products because of prostitution, which I questioned. Then, you repeated yourself. It seems that you don't understand. My saying that it's a stereotype means that you need to show your case, since you're the one asserting it true.
2. I spoke about prostitution, not one society's advertising industry in the 21st c.
3. I said sometimes because it is not ordinarily the case and cannot be attributed to prostitution simply because you label it a result.
semasiologistics 1 year ago
@jules11117 Please provide some sources for these claims. Can you really argue that prostitutes are safer under prohibition?
It's morally wrong to make it illegal because it's none of our business if one person marries for money, or only dates rich people. It's not our business either if another is more honest and efficient about same.
Prostitution prohibition is also impossible to enforce making a mockery of law enforcement and taking resources from real crime.
klfly 1 year ago
@jules11117 Spend less time trying to belittle plese. Just say what it is you have to say. My point about longevity is that attempts to stop it are always unsuccessful. I'm familiar with black markets which make things like marijuana and prostitution deadly. Prostitution is legal in many places and I think such places provide a compelling model with prostitutes who are safer and pimps as we know them out of business. COYOTE by the way is made up of prostitutes and people who work with them.
klfly 1 year ago
@Jules, Not sure where your first 'point' gets any communicating human being.
As regards the second point, I was not contending legalization but critiquing your opinion that "all women are lumped into the same category as prostitutes, in that they are treated like assets." A stereotype.
The third point, was not contending legalization either but debasing your erroneous misnomer of sexual incivilities. Like I said, sexual violence can be attributed to many 'institutions.'
semasiologistics 1 year ago
Prostitution will always exist, has always existed. Keeping it illegal makes it more dangerous and harmful to the prostitutes. I support COYOTE (Cast Off Your Old Tired Ethics) and I think that prostitution should be legal.

@jules11117
3. "Prostitution" is sometimes the cause of such but, what should be evident is that, there are countless causes, vs. just one.
semasiologistics 1 year ago
@jules11117: So let me get this right. You're against prostitution because some women are sexually exploited, and also, because prostitution sells women as sex objects, which causes the rest of the world to view women in the same way, as sex objects? Is that right?
semasiologistics 1 year ago

I think its a very rare person who will be against prostitution for reasons not stemming from some sort of dogmatic religious/social beliefs.

Being a man, I believe that your point of view is the most logical and liberal, not forcing upon others your views, it should be more disseminated to others.
In unrelated news, smart and good looking gal there, a rare breed, a rare breed indeed, kudos.

Did you know that the women's lib movement was funded by the Rockefeller's with the goal of breaking up the family and increasing the taxable body? Google "Historic interview with Aaron Russo". Interesting stuff.
