  • Thanks for posting. Our Tyson is 6 and half years; was diagnosed with CHF yesterday and is undergoing treatment. We have been told he may survive maximum 6 months to a year. We were treating him for cough with antibiotics for 4 days before he got worse and the specialist realised that is it CHF. Thanks for posting the video. God Bless you all!

  • My boxer, Sully Sampson, died of congestive heart failure at 9PM 12/3/2011. He was my friend. He lived a long life for a boxer, had a wife in his life, many kids; & his daughter, Callee was here bawling right along with me after I got his body prepared2bury him. He lived for 89 yearsNhuman time.It is going to be strange without my Sam Sam's around. I believe N a doggy heaven, or I couldn't cope with his death. He was a great dog. A fawn boxer, 100 pounds of man dog, Callee's dad. RIP daddy-boy.

  • Thank you for this video. My beloved Daisy passed away from this past Thursday, 11/17/2011, from this. I had no idea what it was - I simply thought it was a hair ball. She went on like this for several hours, even breathing normally at one point. I was with her throughout most of the night, even kissing her head and petting her before I went to bed, not knowing it would be the last time. When I awoke at 9am, she had already passed. It hurts my heart to know that she was going through this & I c

  • No offence but, put down the camera and comfurt him!

  • Does it really do any good in the long run? Once a heart wears out, the only real fix is a heart transplant, and I don't think anybody does those for dogs. I've had three large dogs die from this type of heart failure, and while I wish I had known of it ahead of time, it's far better then seeing them decline from senility or cancer.

  • It breaks my heart to see our beloved four-leggeds get old and have health problems. My 15-year-old cockapoo has a leaky valve and is on Enalapril. She still sometimes breathes the same way your dear Bing was breathing. My doctor has done x-rays, but never said it was CHF or that draining her lungs would help. I will have to ask more about it. I am absolutely torn up at the thought that my dog will probably die from this. Thanks for your video. You were a great friend to Bing.

  • My 5 1/2 year old Bentley was just Diagnosed 2 days ago with Congestive Heart Failure. He showed no symptoms other than a little cough for a week then rapid breathing. Took him to the vet thinking he had a little cold or something, and found out he is in moderate heart faliure. I am so heart broken, but greatful that we still have a little bit of time left to enjoy him and say our good bye's. Thank you for sharing this! We are going to try to make the best of what we have left. Going to miss him

  • My boxer, Cassi, has been doing the rapid breathing thing for weeks now. The vet told me that she had a leaky valve but also suspected cancer because of enlarged glands (all overy her body). I chose not to have her tested and she has outlived the 4-6 weeks she was given. She also has hip displaysia. She is nearing the end of her journey. I appreciate this video.

  • @allietag My female boxer contracted lymphoma (cancer of the lymph nodes) at nearly 10 years old. She lived another eight months with a cortocosteroid. You don't want to let go, but the humane thing to do is have them put down when you KNOW they are suffering.

  • @gray70 no dont put it down, its unnatural. besides why wuld u kill ur dog?

  • @xninjazx6r Would you rather the dog suffered agonizing pain

  • Aww! ( My cat died the day before your dog did this year. :(

  • My girl Lady is a 13 yr old Springer Spaniel & she has been doing this all night exactly. A year ago she was diagnosed with pulmonary edema and we almost lost her. But I cannot see her suffer any longer. I tried to make her comfortable but she just keeps pacing and panting. I will take her to the vet this morning. But thank you for your video as it confirms what I thought, just needed to see it to know what I got to do. How long after this video did Bing pass if you dontmind my asking.

  • @lavastruse Bing survived another seven months with medication. Sorry for your loss.

  • my dog has c.h.f and i'm sitting with her now till she's gone not much longer from the way shes breathing :(

  • thank you very much for this video. I am sitting here this morning, with a very broken heart, after having to put my little buddy Clarence to sleep late last night. He was a 12 year old Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix and he was a really good unconditional friend and companion to me. Seeing your vid reinforced my decision and in a small way helped to ease the pain. He was suffering so bad after almost two days of hyperventilating. I couldn't bear to see him suffer further. I miss my little buddy...

  • Poor Guy I hate to see them when they are on their way out. We had a couple cats that died of the same thing and did the same stuff. Its the crappy part of owning a dog. Ya no exertion its just a build up of fluid that puts strain on the heart.

RIP BING! You will met your owner at the "Rainbow Bridge"

  • I do have a video of my Sadie coughing but I don't have one of the night she panted and coughed (2 days before she passed away on her own) it was hard but she spared me a lot of bad memories as you will see. She had multiple health issues. I gave her subq fluids twice a day for her kidney disease, home cooked for her. She also had pancreatitis, IBD, cong heart disease, Vestibular disease, borderline diabetic, bad arthritis I could not control with meds/supps bc of her ibd... so hard....

  • This video WAS hard to watch but many pet owners don't know what to do in when they see a situation like this. So your video will help others to seek immediate help when they see these signs in their pets. I lost my Yorkie Sadie 10/21/10. She started coughing every 45 minutes. Went into cong heart failure and she passed away suddenly. Losing a beloved pet is hard and I just want to say that thanks for posting the video. sorry for your loss. People WILL learn from seeing this...

  • wow this is so sad!

i'm writing a story about a dog, it dies of congestive heart failure. This is really helpful, but i'm very sorry :(

  • I am sorry for your loss. I have a 13 year old chi mix who has a heart murmur, and this video is very helpful.

  • My 15 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier has this condition. She's just like Bing atm & she's been taking Benazepril Hydrochloride for a few days. At this moment in time I'd say she's worse, not better. I know she has some fluid on her lungs & I'm contacting the vet tomorrow for something to remove that. I know about the potassium levels, fortunately she loved bananas. She is, however, off her food atm. She's eating tuna fish though! So sorry you lost your beautful Bing. :-(

  • My mom's little terrier begun wheezing and coughing not long ago. A month after, I noticed that her respirations were very labored (just like the Boxer in the video). She was also coughing up clear fluid. Took her to the vet and told us that it looked like she has CHF (congested heart failure). Felt like someone had dropped a ton of bricks on me...

  • @lokks707

Sorry for your eventual loss, pal. I know - it really sucks. Too many dogs dying from CHF these days it seems. Makes me go "hmmmmm...."

  • Thank you for this very sad but also very helpful video. Any one who is an animal lover knows how heartbrreaking it is to lose a part of your 'family' and I am learning firsthand that my Staffordshire Terrier (pitbull) Remy has CHF. He is 9yrs old I have had him since he was 8wks old and he is one of my babies (I got 2 cats) and I have had a brick in the bottom of my stomach since diagnosis 4 days ago. His meds, the ones you mentioned seemed to have dramatically helped so I am happy but sad.

  • @osamawilliams

Glad my video has helped you as well as many others according to the view tally. Only bad thing about pets is that they don't live as long as we do. Make your peace with the inevitable even though doing so will not lessen the blow. Enjoy the time you have left with Remy and toward the end, be sure to give him all the goodies you had denied him throughout his life. Remember to make the pillow available to him to relieve the pressure off stomach - feed bananas. Best wishes.

  • thank you for sharing this. Although it is heartbreaking to watch, it has helped me to know if my pom has congestive heart failure. I'm so sorry for your loss. It is so difficult to lose your best friend.

  • that is so sad... sigh...

  • Thank you for your video, it's heartbreaking, but helpful. At least now I know what to expect. Thanks

  • This is exactly what my Daisy is doing. Panting for no reason, coughing. It's really gotten pronounced in the past month or so. I've got an email into my vet right now. First arthritis, now this.

  • Such a beautiful dog. I'm so sorry for your loss.

  • @pseudospeak Thank you.

  • My dog has congestive heart failure- he's having the same symptoms but noit yet as bad- sorry to see this- it's s hard to know when it's time to let them go.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. :(

  • @OptimusOne Thank you.

  • My dog is doing was doing this, he is currently in the hospital. Should I put him down or not would it be better if I just hold on to him a little longer. I love him to death but when should I ssay "it time"

  • @marthwon2

Tough call, pal. I will say, however, that treatment will buy you some time. The drugs used to treat CHF in dogs: Vetmedin - gets the heart pumping again, which helps to reduce the organs from pulling in fluid. Lasix - water pill which helps to eliminate fluid. Enalapril - blood pressure med to work with the Vetmedin. Treatment was expensive, but it bought me seven more months with Bing. He went down hill the last six weeks. His abdomen filled and so did his feet with fluid.

  • Just a few tips for those of you whose dogs are suffering from CHF:

    1) BANANAS! If your dog is taking a diuretic, then he is greatly depleting his potasium/phosphorus levels - you need to mash up some banana daily and feed it to him.

    2) Make sure to have a regular bed pillow available to him. When the abdomen fills with fluid, it is very uncomfortable for him to lay on it. He will use the pillow to support the upper half of his body thereby relieving some of the pressure off his stomach.

  • Oh, Gray70, our heart goes out to you! How ironic that I found this video today...

Bing will be at the Rainbow Bridge soon and will be frolicking like a pup again.

Our hearts are heavy for you.

    Kathy

  • Poor Bing. Took our 14yo Basset to the dog park today. A gent suggested Rocket might be suffering from CHF. We looked it up on the 'net, and then I went to find videos and found this.

My heart goes out to Bing - and you. God Bless our dogs!

    Kathy

  • Thank you for the "God Bless our dogs!"

You should get Rocket to his Vet ASAP - through treatment, he may live a while longer. Best wishes.

Sadly, today is Bing's last full day of life. I am having him put down tomorrow as the condition has finally caught up with him and treatment is no longer effective. He has now developed edema in his feet and he is back to the original symptoms. This is painful for him and me as well, but now is the time to end it.

  • @gray70

My elderly Jack Russell is on a cocktail of 4 medicines, Vetmedin 5mg, Prilactone, Furosemide , Enalapril. The Vetmedin looks like it is helping him a bit and I would urge any dog owner in a similar position to ask the vet to prescribe Vetmedin alongside whatever combination of pills are required to regain your pets quality of life back.

  • just put my dog down yesterday. same symptoms. :(

  • @onionofdeath

So sorry. I know how you're feeling, and I hope that you feel better soon. Best of luck to you.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. My mothers little dog coughs and breathes like this sometimes. The vet says it is a mild form of CHF, but not bad enough to treat yet. He's 16 and so far he has been able to cough enough to clear it, but it's slowly getting worse. I didn't know about Vetmedin. I'll ask the vet about it. Thanks again.

  • Glad to see that this video and information have been successful in their intent - to help people and their dogs. Be sure to get the dog to the vet when it becomes obvious that the dog needs immediate help. Actually, I would start medication now if I were you or your Mother. This condition will only worsen. Best wishes, and thank you for the comment.

  • Thx for posting this mate. I have a 2 year old boxer and he means the world to me.

That's the problem with dogs in general...it's all good whilst their healthy but when they go or when they start getting on and you have to take that decision to have he/she put down...it breaks ya heart :(

  • @29Gixxer

It's been six months since diagnosis, and looking back, he'd been suffering from this condition for quite a while before it got so serious. He's not doing so well these days - has lost about 10lbs. Won't be much longer for my best pal, Bing.

Thanks for the comment, and best of luck with your Boxer.

  • hi sorry for your loss my louie died 16th jan 2009 from this he died on the way to the vets at 09.38 i was only told he had this three weeks prior i was taking him for the needle but he saved me this pain just wished i could have helped him more what shocked me the most that when we did arive at the vets the vet took him in and when placed on the table the amount of fluid that came out of louie was at least 2 pints that had built up in his system

  • Gray 70,

I'd like to thank you for posting this video. My shih tzu dog had this and your video helped me figure out what was wrong with her. Unfortunately, she did this morning about 6:20am after trying to get on my bed and say goodbye (I know she was trying to tell me it was her time to go.) I want to STRESS to the people watching this if htis is happening to their dog..TAKE THEM IN NOW. The medicine and vet bill is a walk in the park compared to seeing your beloved animal die like I did.

  • So sorry for your loss. It's a crusher to lose your beloved dog, I know. I watched my last Boxer die right in front of me, so I know how you feel. It will get better in a week or so. Best wishes.

  • I feel 4 u I have my guy now 10years old they said he has cong heart trouble the vet said his heart wasnt too big I am still hoping its kennel cough but I am afraid its his heart its so sad Ilove him they are miserable. I got his cough to mellow out but it started back yeterday. I am going to move my house traps too much mold I am oing to do w/e I can-they say a humidifier helps them I wish your dog the best poor fella :(

  • Thank you for the well wishes. Same to you and yours. Thanks for commenting.

  • Gray 70. Speaking of infuriated. I'm actually upset to hear that your vet misdiagnosed your dog with an infection...then charged you for antibiotics...then charged you for an x-ray. I have a vet that has been with my family for over 30 years. When I took my dog into him, he listened to his chest for crackling and rails, induced his cough, and said, "he has heart failure".. He only charged me for the vetmedin. No need for an x-ray or EKG. Sometimes vets rip people off b/c they can.

  • The best thing that the original vet could do for Bing was to recommend another vet when I took him back the next morning. Thankfully, the next vet was much more capable and decisive with his care. Most likely, he knew the diagnosis within a minute of examination, especially considering the breed and age of the dog. Even so, he still had to generate revenue for his practice by recommending six tests of which I agreed to only three - heart worm, partial blood panel, and x-ray.

  • Nevertheless, I am still grateful. Bing is doing so much better with the administering of his prescriptions. Amazing how we become so attached to our pets. I can assure anyone who sees this video that this dog has always been loved greatly, and well cared for. I wish he could live as long as I may live. My last boxer died of lymphoma. Her life was prolonged for ten months after diagnosis with a cortocosterioid - I simply could not afford the huge cost of chemo, etc. We do what we can.

  • they made me pay for an xray they said because he has to b perfectly still and I told them he stays very still he is always taking pictures he is my #1 customer they do rip off because they know u love your pet and you would just about kill to get the $ to help them heartless money hungry just like ppl drs

  • thank you for sharing...my dog has similiar symptoms and has just been diagnosed with heart failure. I appreciate you sharing.

  • Yes, the video is very difficult to view. Unfortunately, think of all the people out there who's dogs are going through the exact same thing and they have absolutely no idea just how serious the issue is. That's why I uploaded the vid. Happy to report that within three days of treatment, Bing is back to his old self again. He is nothing like what you see here. The drug Vetmedin really is a God send. The Enalapril for blood pressure is also doing him a lot of good. Thanks.

  • Typical. Ah, yes - he's still alive. We had been to his regular Vet THAT DAY. That Vet said he just had an infection and gave an antibiotic injection with a script for the same. This video was shot later that night at about 3am. I took the video to show to another vet the next morning, who did testing. X-Ray revealed the enlarged heart. Did you bother to read the info to the right? I put this video up for those who may happen upon it while searching the same symptoms their dogs may show

  • Again, should anyone's dog be exhibiting these same symptoms, please see a Vet ASAP. You can save your dog's life by doing so AND you can also extend it with treatment.

  • Comment removed

  • Well, if I'm showing my dog in this condition, and advising others of the necessity for a good Vet, in addition to telling about the available treatment/drugs, then isn't implied that I got the care my dog needed?

  • Comment removed

  • bostonandboxers: Are you retarded? Seriously, it's not as if the man filming his dog could be doing something differently. At that point there's nothing to do. Do you just get infuriated for no reason?
