  • Wow! Gilbert Hetherwick, Nature Documentarian. This is wonderful footage, and what a fantastic opportunity for you! LOVE IT!

  • The cubs are adorable Gilbert! How honored you must be that Mama Ursa feels comfortable enough in your backyeard to introduce you to her babies! Maybe Kurt & I will get up there to meet them!

  • And yes.... the deer in the background actually scares the little ones.. which is why they run over to the tree so they can climb to safety quickly if they need to.

  • The cubs can stay with mom as long as 18 months. They mate every OTHER year and the family breaks up very quickly and abruptly as soon as a new mate comes on the scene in June or July. The cubs are born around January IN the den with the mother during hibernation. The mother comes out around the first of April (here in the Northeast) but doesn't bring the babies out until they are ready. I knew she had mated last year and have been anxiously awaiting "the kids" for two months!

  • what wonderful footage! she sure is a proud mama! you can almost hear her saying, "junior, get down from that tree!!" and i noticed the deer in the background....how long til the cubs grow up and leave home?
