great subject, and its good that some ppl are prepared, its ok os long as u dnt leave 1 in the chamber, i usually keep mine hidden in my dresser or top of the closet locked in a case, easy to access for me but not any1 else.. but very good job.
If you're going to sleep with your gun, always use protection... Eye and ear protection of course :-). I could probably make a joke about lube too, but I won't go there!
So the title of your video is Why Not to Sleep with Your Gun... yet the only reason you gave was that it might be uncomfortable. That's it !!?? Really, that's it?? That's all you got? I'll give up a bit of comfort to know I'm covered if some asshole comes through my door. I have slept with my gun for over a decade.. and if its not under my pillow its on my back. I also sleep with one in the pipe .. because I know my gun and understand guns dont fire on their own.
I sleep nude with a leather shoulder holster and two spare mags. It chaffed a bit at first, but now it is broken in and I would feel naked with out it.
if you need to sleep with ur gun, either u live in a really bad neighborhood which in any case i recommed moving or just simply straight up paranoid...get help people!
the major problem with sleeping with your gun under your pillow is that most people don't sleep perfectly still all night long. No, Im not implying that the gun will go off if you're a restless sleeper but rather when you need it, it's not where you left it. If you feel you need a gun that close to you while you sleep I suggest you mount a holster to the bed frame, head board, wall, nightstand...you get the idea. Holsters for this type of use do exist.
I have been going thru a lot of videos when I typed Smith and Wesson. Its amazing. It just proves my point of 90% of the worlds population is not smart enough to own a gun......PS a sigma is a pos of a weapon. Go buy an M&P
there is nothing wrong with sleeping with you pistol in close proximity. It all depends on the scenario, kids in the house vs adults only. Obviously if there are kids you don't want the gun to be noticed within eye shot of walking into the room. I agree, however, under the pillow is a bad idea.
I have my pocket 380 in bed, unchambered for quick reaction (cycle slide, point) along with my fully loaded G19 magazine. The G19 is in the bedside table but empty. If have more time, then I can drop in the mag, cycle and be ready in 2 sec.
never put your gun on the nite stand...real Crocks move in Silence!!!! If you are a hard sleeper...they can come in your room and you wont know it...and grab your gun off the nite stand and use it against you...so its better to keep it close but hidin. what one dont know...one wont find out until he hears the big BANG...lol.
I have been sleeping with my 1911 Cocked and Locked under my pillow for years. And its nice to be able to reach under there and grab it and go when I need it.
Good topic, one not often covered. Some friendly advice though. At 0:43 you have your finger on the trigger. Loaded or not it's a bad habit IMO, break that soon :)
@gus361 i picked up one of those blackhawk $12 holsters and screwed it to the back of the headboard, its easily accesible an no one thinks to look there
I wouldn't recommend it, purely due to the fact that some people can handle things better than others, and those that can't generally think they can.
I slept with a loaded gun within reach every night for two years at one point. Never had any incidents accidents or problems. I am not your average Joe.
I wouldn't recommend it, purely due to the fact that some people can handle things better than others, and those that can't generally think they can.
I slept with a loaded gun within reach every night for two years at one point. Never had any incidents accidents or problems. I am not your average Joe.
One night I had the eeby-jeebies (an uncomfortable and fearfull feeling) when I went to bed so I stuck my Colt Army 45 under my bed and went to sleep. Sometime in the night I ran my hand under my pillow as I was turning in my sleep and my hand hit something hard. As I woke up I realized that I had reached under my bed IN MY SLEEP and put the pistol under my pillow! After that day I began keeping my gun in the closet.
Nightstand. Full clip. Empty chamber. For a guy uncocked. For a chick pulled back and locked and ready with a downward pull on the lever. For both practice at the range and be ready for the 9 pound trigger pull.
For $75.00 you can get a Bedside Backup from Crossbreed Holsters. One part goes between the mattress and box spring and the holster hangs down. Easy to get to and can travel with you when staying at a motel.
I sleep with a BB pistol under my bed. I don't keep it actually in the bed, since it usually winds up in the floor by morning whenever I do. And, before someone berates me, this gun runs on CO2. I don't keep the cartrige set to where is ready to immediately fire (if someone ever broke in, it would probably take me at least 10 seconds just to get the thing ready).
@24NascarDude hopefully you only have it as a backup during your movement away from the threat, xonfronting a burglar with a bbgun is considered safe if the burglar has a stripped tail and four legs, the two legged type ussually pack more than pellets. not to say i don't condone using what's at hand, before I had a pistol i did the exact same thing, just remember that it is NOT a pistol.
I keep one next to my bed, on a cardboard box, with a piece of cardboard covering it. That way, nobody finds it or thinks to look there, but still is easily accessible. Same gun actually (Sigma 9mm).
im a light sleeper so I rather sleep with it under my mattress jump up and ready and my GI Tanto wedged somewhere close by. Knives are easier when you know how to use one
Keep it between your mattress and your box spring POINTED TOWARDS THE HEADBOARD, in condition one. No armed bad guys, no dead wifes, still easy to get to quick.
The best way to keep a gun close to you when your asleep is to use a Quckdraw gun magnet. You want to put it in between the bed and headboard. Then if you have a problem you can reach down and pull it out. This enables you to to keep a gun loaded+1 and also keeps your pistol off the night stant for an intruder to take away from you.
I don't know why you are making videos giving others advice like you are an expert. from watching a few it's obvious that you are an uninformed novice buff. I have a prediction you will have an accidental discharge soon and I'm not talking about the ones with your boyfriend . never keep your gun on your night stand if a bad guy comes in when your sleeping now you have an armed bad guy.
"Never keep your gun on your night stand". There are a few things wrong with this. First, if someone is going to break into my place when I'm not in the room, they'd have to walk past the living room, where I'd likely be.
Second, said bad guy would have to climb over my bed with ME in it, to get to the makeshift nightstand between my bed and the wall, and then actually SEARCH to find the gun.
If someone can get over my bed and find my gun without ever waking me, they can keep it.

It really shows you the mentality of gun owners when you have to make a video to tell them not to sleep with their gun. I've had to say not to run out of the room in the middle of the night & shoot the first thing that moves & I've even had to tell people not to leave loaded guns laying around trhe house.
you really are an idiot unloaded guns are worthless for protection if you have guns keep them loaded and in a safe or within arms reach but unoaded guns can get you killed
mine sleeps next to me on my strong side next to my waist in a uncle mikes concealment holster. I've been doing that for 10 years. And I can't honestly recall ever bumping it onto the floor or have an incident. the nice thing about having it right there is I can get to it silently and just by feel it's just a matter of sweeping my hand over it. I could even shoot through the sheets if the intruder is in my room. just me though. never had nare a prob.

Glock 17, 30 round mag, in my blackhawk holster unchambered under the pillow next to me (king size). As safe as you can possibly be with a gun, but more than enough ammo to defend yourself, and 2 seconds to grab and rack.. my 2 cents.
My uncle lived in america for about 4 years, in the 90s.
and he had what looked like a fire alarm style set up, with glass that you need to smash, and he had a glock or something like that in the mini glass case.
but what was quite strange was that there was also a revolver just in his drawer...so if thats not overkill. and a shotgun but that was in a wooden locked cabinet.
make a plate in the shape of a L (like a upside down bookend) tucks under the mattress, the other side is on the side of the mattress pointing toward the floor. You then strap any holster you want to the plate. Then you have a holster hanging from the side of the bed. much nicer and safer then pillow carry. I had my plate made at the local metal smiths shop.
The pillow is not safe and it does not stay in one place at night.
