As for proof, there were 72 seats in Scotland at the 2001 general election. @ManlnCognito I've noticed - ironically, as you said above - that English people I debate with say this a lot. Normally they cite a figure of £8 billion. Even if that were a correct figure (which is absolutely in dispute), it would not account for a large bonus for England due to its size and population. With a GDP of around 800 billion, an 8 billion repatriation of wealth to England would in actual fact make very little difference to any tax payer.

Take the treaty of union for example, prior to it Scotland was one of the poorest nations in Europe. With access to trade with other nations that had embargos and with Englands former colonies (now British), Scotland flourished and became the industrial powerhouse of the empire (as did Northern England). Removal of barriers will see Scotland swim for certain. We will have another golden age.
You don't have to try and convince me Scotland will thrive outside of the union. Scotland's future economic state wont effect me or my bank balance one way or the other. All I'm interested in is England's future prosperity.

I know that England's future prosperity is important for Scotland, simply because it is its biggest trading partner. Most Scottish goods are sold in England and more tourists in Scotland are English.
So a strong England is a strong Scotland. On the other hand, Scotland, whilst affecting the economy of England, is too small to make as large an impact, but there will still be one.

However, Blair decided that he would ask parliament. As a result, whether we went to war on not was based on the votes of MPs. Most Scottish MPs voted against the conflict, whereas most English voted in favour (with the Tories voting for the war). Ergo, Scotland did not vote to go to war, whilst England did.

As for proof, there were 72 seats in Scotland at the 2001 general election. By 2003, Labour had lost two seats in by-elections, one to liberal, one to SNP, making the total at that vote: 53 Labour, 6 SNP, 11 Liberal and 1 Conservative. With the speaker being discounted, that means 36 would have to vote against. All SNP and Liberal did, making 17. 21 Scots Labour rebelled.

Even if that were a correct figure (which is absolutely in dispute), it would not account for a large bonus for England due to its size and population. With a GDP of around 800 billion, an 8 billion repatriation of wealth to England would in actual fact make very little difference to any tax payer.

Take the treaty of union for example, prior to it Scotland was one of the poorest nations in Europe. With access to trade with other nations that had embargos and with Englands former colonies (now British), Scotland flourished and became the industrial powerhouse of the empire (as did Northern England). Removal of barriers will see Scotland swim for certain. We will have another golden age.

I know that England's future prosperity is important for Scotland, simply because it is its biggest trading partner. Most Scottish goods are sold in England and more tourists in Scotland are English.
So a strong England is a strong Scotland. On the other hand, Scotland, whilst affecting the economy of England, is too small to make as large an impact, but there will still be one.

Those rigs belong to BP, SHELL, ESSO. besides there's only about 20 years left and we've discovered oil on the Falklands so fuck them.

After independence, England can do whatever it wishes, continue in union with Wales and Northern Ireland or separate from them, it is none of my business. All I know is that the economic and social status of Scotland and her people would be greatly improved by this separation.
