Instead of wasting energy, time and effort skidding down side to side like an idiot, a person with a hand brake would be able to descend in a straight line and in a controlled manner. Imagine them riding in traffic and taking up an entire lane to slow down...
You're the dumbass. Since when is fixed gear synonymous with no brakes. If they don't have brakes then they are dumb. And that's my point. It's a waste of time and energy to back pedal when brakes do such a better job.
Not all the bike in the race are fixies, pay attention @ 1:46 and beyond. During that little straight you can plainly see a couple people coasting. Not all messengers ride fixie. Still a cool vid, I ride both a roadbike and a fixie. Both equally fun and challenging!
