I wouldn't even bother dealing with them on the phone. Get all correspondence from them in writing since you can't record the phone calls and they can.
You know you don't have to pay your credit card debt because it's not a debt, challenge them on this and you will win!
I am going thru a deal with owing right now for a cell phone. All of the charges are due b/c of early termination. Yes I agreed to that liability but get real. I'm not gonna feel bad for owing some dumbass outrageous fees equal to as ruthless as they are to collect them. being low income, my credit good or bad does not bother me anymore either. nor docking any pay for the debt as they will only get what I can truly afford that they won't hear of right now.
Creditors need to realize the possibility of non-payment. Simple aspect is, if you can't afford to be paid back, then don't loan the money. Extenuating circumstances do come into effect and cannot be helped. However, if you might not ever be able to make good on the debt, don't ever borrow. Shame to both as owing can be considered stealing; but agreed they are ruthless. >(
I agree too, if a person gets a credit card they are says that they promise to pay what they charge; however, many unforeseen things happen for example getting a serious illness/loss of job/high medical bills etc... these things that can make a person not able to pay the credit card. So yes they should pay but I can see how a person can easily slip in to default.
comes down to this: If you get a credit card, read the contract that comes with it.
When you use your card, PAY IT OFF every month. Then if something terrible happens, you don't have a huge balance to contend with.
As for that health care thing, if you live in the US, then USE YOUR VOTING RIGHTS. The US health care system is a predatory disaster run by profiteering HMOs
dub, dub, dub dot Michael Moore dot com.... SICKO.
Its funny, you agree profiteering banks should be able to Harass and rake people over the coals for being one day late on their payments but your down on hmo's. That seems conter productive to me.
Banks are profit based institutions with which you sign a contract. They lend, you pay back. HMOs have you sign a contract and pay them but they often don't meet their contractual agreement.
Banks do no harass if you're one day late - unless you're always one or more days late.
If you get credit, sign a contract, by stuff and then don't pay back what you've borrowed, yes the lender can bug you to pay up. Simple.
you can't have it both ways is all I'm saying both are controlled by corprate instrests. If regulation is nessary to kept hosptils and hmo from seizing you property when you can't pay your medical bills, it should be the same for bank who prophit on peoples stupidity,

It is NOT the fault of the card company.
IF YOU APPLY FOR CREDIT, YOU SIGN A CONTRACT TO PAY THAT CREDIT.
If you can't pay for the stuff you buy, DON'T BUY IT!

Health care is a necessity. Credit is not.
if you get sick you need a hospital. You do NOT need 99.5% of what is available at WalMart.
THAT is the difference. Need/necessity and want/greed/irresponsibility.
