The black things on the side of the cars are the air intake. They act as restrictors. They are 26mm in diameter. I'm not sure if they are ram air but presume so. If one is damaged or comes off in a race the car will be disqualified.
Personally I think Formula Three intakes should be more open for more power. They have a too big grip:power ratio.

its not an airbox its a strangulation to the engine...
