robotics is on the rise right now with asimo and nao so now would be the perfect time for sony to bring qrio back, all robotics start off expensive but gets cheaper over time and they could look for investors or endorsers like nao, i mean c'mon sony bring qrio back, qrio was cooler than asimo and nao in my opinion

First time I heard of this little guy. The robotics here seem very fluid like and very advanced. I would think that it came down to financial reasons as everything always does. Did they sell the patients are holding them for future. There is some reason we may not be privy too but the fact of the movements being very human like, I don't think is the reason. We will get to this point eventually any way as younger generation gets older and wiser more accepting generation takes over.
I think, Japanese special services was make signature "top secret" this project, and it still in working out, but is already hidden from eyes of simple people. (Sorry for my english)

if we had MAJOR breakthroughs of this kind of technology then our military would at least get a lot of the benefit from it, chrome hounds is a good example, we could at least make these things 10 or 20 times in size and retro fit them with gatling guns and everything, but we dont need to get into them automatically controlling them, we still need human pilots...i know machines are smart, but not everythings perfect...

Asimov's laws were designed specifically to PREVENT harm to humans. In the novels they were tricked into unwittingly putting humans at risk or took the rules more liberally than they should. Either way a robot would have to have a fully functional brain to even understand the rules which means it couldn't be made to follow them. As Punch said, they were canceled for cash reasons not for fear.

There may be laws to prevent robots from harming humans. But at one point much like the big bang there will be a point where robot technology will either be combined into us much like Ghost in the shell or the theory of Terminator could happen.

wow, i didnt know sony killed the qrio project, i have been out of touch. i guess honda picked up some of the technologies sony used in qrio. it was the most advanced a few years ago. now asimo seems to have left it in the dust. but if i am correct i dont think sony ever really intended to sell qrios but used the project to develope new AI techno possibilities. qrio used ideas that honda didnt use at the time in asimo. at any rate each of these r wonderful spring boards for robotics of tomorrow.

Asimo can run, climb stairs, correct its balance when pushed, it can talk, see, and its beginning to learn.
realy, Asimo is pre-programmed too when it boils down to it. hes programmed to regain his balance when pushed, programmed to see, run etc. the talking part id agree is almost AI, but all he realy does is identify objects through their shape and repeat the name back to you when hes learned it. but hes still kick ass kewl XD
Qrio is an awesome robot. They just needed to make it autonomous. Im sure it could climb up stairs if it used its hands & walked like a monkey. And I secretly think that kim jong il is in charge of sonys decisions. Sony has made bizzare choices many MANY times, too bad QRIO is discontinued =(
i found a rip off version its from Aldebaran Robotics its called the nao and its sleeker and probably cheaper it does more than the qrio and is cooler i think
asimo is not better. Asimo is remote controlled, these guys are not. And they actually said if Qrio ever hit the market it would be about half a mill, which makes it cheaper than Asimo too.
I heard Sony stopped it because they wanted to focus elsewhere on their EI technology, personally I think it was their dumbest mistake. They really had something going with this little guy
Qrio was too delicate and expensive so never went in comercial production if in the market the price will be from 40k to 50k and as i say it was to delicate, too easy to brake
There's no way that they were told not to make these anymore and had their technology confiscated only to be reproduced for military uses. It's probably that they were bored with it.
I don't think it would turn into a terminator unless they make it. The only way to make it a terminator is to give it a brain of it's own. I think sony is smart enough to make the right decisions! I mean look how far they have gone in technology!
They see how easy QRIO can become Terminator so got scared? In the movie they must kill just one man to kill Terminator. But QRIO is just the most advanced humanoid robot, not the only one; you kill QRIO you dont kill Terminator. QRIO is too expensive? Well if you have the money to buy a B2 plane, definitely Terminator worth more.
The best use for robots in the future will be using them to do dangerous tasks which risk human life. Since life is regarded as important by all societies once the tech's there they're gonna be worth alot.
Asimov's laws were put to sleep a long time ago. That was an attempt by him to avoid a future that he saw coming. A V1 and V2 millisles are robots under the concepts that he laid out and there sole purpose was to destroy life and material. In the earlier 1940's. A cruse missile is a robot in every sense of the concept.They became active in the Late 1970's 1978 i think. A nuclear M.E.R.V. is also a robot. We all know what it's purpose is.Asimov 's law are an interesting footnote of the past.;)

What if this project was discontinued because there was more to Qrio than we think; like I-robot. Imagine you were the boss of this project, and you were at home with your qrio, who happened to have a real mind of it's own. lol, this is not the most advanced robot. sony just copied the Honda's ASIMO, that's why it's killed... not advanced as asimo..just can do things like pre-programed walking and it's not even running . ASIMO is more far advanced than the Sony's pirated ASIMO!
QRIO's are to much at the momment. The reason Song stopped producing them was because of tmuch it cost to just produce one. They weren't selling because of how high the price was. If the prioce was lower(Which wasn't very possible), they would've sold better.
asimov laws are three rules, have you seen Will's Smith "I Robot"? they appear in the beginning of the movie in captions (methinks), because the movie is based on Asimov's book with the same name... they actually talk about the three laws in the whole movie... or just google it ;)
Sony killed off their robotics division (qrio, aibo, any other secret robot project) due to funding (the ps3 was still coming at the time). And actually, they wanted to shift focus to the Sony Computer Entertainment (aka: PlayStation) division, and quite of bit of people who were in the robotics division is now in 'SCE'. But don't be surprised if the robotics division comes back up again...
It probably will, I mean Sony has lost billions on the ps3 already, and if it keeps up, sony will have no choice but to concentrate on marketing outside of the gaming industry.

That's just a very stupid move, the future is robotics not consoles. I know a lot of people would have shelled the cash for one of these even if they were preprogrammed.

recharging wouldn't be the primary issue, it could access to a battery meter so yes it could be easily programmed to go back to its base station or plug itself in. The programing to make it do enough to be worth buying is much harder. Even after it would do enough their many would have legitimate privacy concerns, probably also some concerns that have no base in fact.
All of that hard work, gone. These robots were ahead of time and were about to be perfected and open a new line in robotics for the house, then they just canceled it. Well, good thing ASIMO is working well.

Robots are better than people. They don't need to eat, they use very little resources, they can remember exact details of everything that happens in a hundred year period and never forget. So, what about people being superior?
QRIO is much better than asimo....Qrio has got better movement and when asimo falls down it just stays down but QRIO stands up again....its just a shame that the Qrio is so expensive and not many people can afford it.

Qrio is an awesome robot. They just needed to make it autonomous. Im sure it could climb up stairs if it used its hands & walked like a monkey. And I secretly think that kim jong il is in charge of sonys decisions. Sony has made bizzare choices many MANY times, too bad QRIO is discontinued =(

in order to be a useful household servant robot, bipedal robot must be able to climb up the stairs.
Qrio size robots are too small for that.
Asimo size would be more ideal.
bigger than Asimo sized robots may be threatening to be around.

i found a rip off version its from Aldebaran Robotics its called the nao and its sleeker and probably cheaper it does more than the qrio and is cooler i think

asimo is not better. Asimo is remote controlled, these guys are not. And they actually said if Qrio ever hit the market it would be about half a mill, which makes it cheaper than Asimo too.
I heard Sony stopped it because they wanted to focus elsewhere on their EI technology, personally I think it was their dumbest mistake. They really had something going with this little guy

Qrio was too delicate and expensive so never went in comercial production if in the market the price will be from 40k to 50k and as i say it was to delicate, too easy to brake

There's no way that they were told not to make these anymore and had their technology confiscated only to be reproduced for military uses. It's probably that they were bored with it.

I don't think it would turn into a terminator unless they make it. The only way to make it a terminator is to give it a brain of it's own. I think sony is smart enough to make the right decisions! I mean look how far they have gone in technology!

They see how easy QRIO can become Terminator so got scared? In the movie they must kill just one man to kill Terminator. But QRIO is just the most advanced humanoid robot, not the only one; you kill QRIO you dont kill Terminator. QRIO is too expensive? Well if you have the money to buy a B2 plane, definitely Terminator worth more.

The best use for robots in the future will be using them to do dangerous tasks which risk human life. Since life is regarded as important by all societies once the tech's there they're gonna be worth alot.

Asimov's laws were put to sleep a long time ago. That was an attempt by him to avoid a future that he saw coming. A V1 and V2 millisles are robots under the concepts that he laid out and there sole purpose was to destroy life and material. In the earlier 1940's. A cruse missile is a robot in every sense of the concept.They became active in the Late 1970's 1978 i think. A nuclear M.E.R.V. is also a robot. We all know what it's purpose is.Asimov 's law are an interesting footnote of the past.;)

QRIO was never available for retail, nor manufactured on a mass-market scale. QRIO only existed in prototype form, as part of Sony's Artificial Intelligence ("AI") Department (which included the AIBO dog). Sony shut-down their AI Department in 2004 (and ceased production of AIBO), due to cost constraints and non-profitability, as part of their financial restructuring. It's rumored that Sony subsequently sold it's AI technology to Toyota Japan, at least in part.

What if this project was discontinued because there was more to Qrio than we think; like I-robot. Imagine you were the boss of this project, and you were at home with your qrio, who happened to have a real mind of it's own. Then one night, qrio had red eyes with 20 other qrio's, and they decided to spin their heads and make noises from the movie, the exorcist.

lol, this is not the most advanced robot. sony just copied the Honda's ASIMO, that's why it's killed... not advanced as asimo..just can do things like pre-programed walking and it's not even running . ASIMO is more far advanced than the Sony's pirated ASIMO!

QRIO's are to much at the momment. The reason Song stopped producing them was because of tmuch it cost to just produce one. They weren't selling because of how high the price was. If the prioce was lower(Which wasn't very possible), they would've sold better.

asimov laws are three rules, have you seen Will's Smith "I Robot"? they appear in the beginning of the movie in captions (methinks), because the movie is based on Asimov's book with the same name... they actually talk about the three laws in the whole movie... or just google it ;)

Sony killed off their robotics division (qrio, aibo, any other secret robot project) due to funding (the ps3 was still coming at the time). And actually, they wanted to shift focus to the Sony Computer Entertainment (aka: PlayStation) division, and quite of bit of people who were in the robotics division is now in 'SCE'. But don't be surprised if the robotics division comes back up again...

recharging wouldn't be the primary issue, it could access to a battery meter so yes it could be easily programmed to go back to its base station or plug itself in. The programing to make it do enough to be worth buying is much harder. Even after it would do enough their many would have legitimate privacy concerns, probably also some concerns that have no base in fact.

QRIO is much better than asimo....Qrio has got better movement and when asimo falls down it just stays down but QRIO stands up again....its just a shame that the Qrio is so expensive and not many people can afford it.
