@braducsb2 it's called getting into the music and it's stupid to stereotype people in a video that was filmed in 1989 buddy lol. It doesn't matter what the hell you look like, when you go to a concert your all there for a single purpose, to get away from reality, listen to your favorite artist and to just get into the music. That's why i love going to concerts.
There are some serious weirdos in that audience. Look at the chick in the white turtleneck around 4:50 and through 5:00. I bet she sees herself now and probably wants to commit suicide. How humiliating. Look how she moves her head back and forth. Some of these people are seriously lunatics.
@braducsb2 I bet she just remembers how great the show is, you're caught up with scenester shit...Clothes don't make the man or woman. I hope when you grow up and finish high school you'll see your response to this clip and realise what a arse you were. Good luck mate..
@pseudokowski I don't know what "scenester" means. All I meant was that she looks very goofy the way she moves to the music, along with the turtleneck and the hair. Looks like something straight out of the 80's.
@imthepb Yeah, that's my point - it's like all of these people are permanently stuck in the 80's. Weird, huh? I know there are 80's parties sometimes, so maybe these people are headed to one. I remember when I was in college, I was at an 80's party, but I was so drunk and stoned, I didn't realize it. After being there for about a couple of hours, I told my friends - "Dude, I think this is an 80's party." They were like... "Duh!" Good shit!
I love the crowd. This is exactly what is missing from shows now. There are no "dirty" kids. I don't mean in in a bad way either. These kids at this show are there to enjoy underground music in a public place. It's the epitome of the underground movement. Playing in a public place and playing nothing but songs about how shit the status quo is, right under their noses.
Even if the camera operator didn't know what they were doing, you've still managed to put together a nice little vignette of Fugazi playing in their hometown back in 1989.
@gripper61 Awesome! They were a little hard to find down here in Australia. Nowadays, I might be able to find one with internets and all that. Cheers :)

that dude had a style of singing that i like. i remember walking around town and seeing fugazi spray painted around town by all the little skater and wondering what it meant. ALL THESE YEARS LATER, I UNDERSTAND. i wish i knew back then what i know now. fugazi kicks ass even after all these years
The hardcore/ punk scene in DC from the 80's and early 90's will always be one of the greatest and most influential musical movements ever ... if you werent there, its impossible to explain
and the fact that Guy can dance all over to this real ass punk music makes me love it even more. the incredible no-wave 'DNA' influence in his guitar work, insatiable. Amazing footage of that at the end, fuck

Did the Hated also play the Alternatives Festival? I've never heard of the fest, but there's this photo of the Hated playing in a setting that's very reminiscent of this place. I would be remiss if I didn't ask... I'm always looking for footage of the Hated.
and by the way, the photo of The Hated which you mention is at Dupont Circle but at another time. I remember one of the Hated guys quoting how cold it was that day.
Thanks I hadn't even thought of that, I'll go and get that taken care of. would it be possible to compliment a great band without having someone make a stupid comment?
Excuse me if you where offended by my comment. It wasn't meant to be sarcastic or as a dig at you or your comment. I was just trying to be positive here. What you have said has been said countless times. The whole notion that somehow music "today" is not as good as "back then" (whenever that might have been)is not new. I understand that sentiment. So what I said was meant to just be a positive statement for all to be proactive about these things and not just be complacent consumers of culture.
Yes, they were. If they wanted to they could have been as commercially big as Nirvana. IOTKT could have been a million seller.
But the guys didn't want that.
Fugazi and Bad Religion were in an informal contest to see 'how big can this get'. Each were selling 250,000 LP's on Indie labels. Then Nirvana released their 2nd Lp...
yeah, good ol(then young) daniel higgs... at 4:45...interesting people..many seem to be touched by the music...i was 11 back then...i think i also would have liked it!
Dug E. Bird at 3:47 bassist for the DC band Beefeater, enjoying the jams!

Yep, me too. Moss Icon was one of the first bands, amongst others. October 21 of 1989, I think. A warm sunday afternoon...

Did the Hated also play the Alternatives Festival? I've never heard of the fest, but there's this photo of the Hated playing in a setting that's very reminiscent of this place. I would be remiss if I didn't ask... I'm always looking for footage of the Hated.

Moss Icon played but I don't remember the Hated being there.

and by the way, the photo of The Hated which you mention is at Dupont Circle but at another time. I remember one of the Hated guys quoting how cold it was that day.

WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO MUSIC?!
THIS STUFF IS GREAT!
I wish there were more bands like this today. Thanks for posting this.

make some of your own music, if there is a lack of it today!

Thanks I hadn't even thought of that, I'll go and get that taken care of. would it be possible to compliment a great band without having someone make a stupid comment?
crbnated 3 years ago
