  • This flick scared the daylights out of me as a kid!!..

  • making contact with mental illness

  • I hate this damn puppet

  • @HokkaidoMilkyway

Creepy isn't he? do you think he's as creepy as fats from the movie "Magic"?

  • FAIL movie!!!!

  • I've been trying to fund out the name of this movie forever. I remember seeing it way back in the 90's as a little kid and it gave me nightmare

  • The American version is so silly but the german is indeed a very good product!!!

  • @tinotrivino What is the difference between the english and german version, beside the language? I watched that movie as a kid on VHS in german and found it frightening.

Has the US version some cuts in it or even different scenes?

In Germany this movie was called JOEY and just today i found out the english title is MAKING CONTACT which sounds a bit silly to me, in retrospect!

  • @brockpierce1984 exactly the german version is more frightened but original, the us version is for kids :D

Ich mag die Deutsche version auch tausend mal mehr, ist auch Poetischer am Ende!

  • @tinotrivino

Would you say the same about the original cut of Nausicaa called Warriors of the Wind?

  • @Johnlindsey289 Dont remember that now :(

  • "no...don't go in here"

    WORST ACTING EVER

  • @Johnlindsey289 Got the german cut 97 min. and the US Version 76 Min. :-))) Collecting DVD's is my Hobby :-) the Ggerman cut is much better !

  • I remember seeing this trailer! It was shown before the peanut butter solultion.I never did see it though. The 80's will always be awesome!

  • this is a HARD to find movie on dvd... I found one, but darn.. The price is huge! anyway, this is one of the reasons why i simply love the 80s.

  • Does this title seem inappropriate to anyone else?

  • 80s forever!!!

  • Well, i'd have to say that Fletcher is creepier because he's possessed by a spirit whereas Fats was only being controlled by a crazy man. Fletcher and the creepy clown doll from Poltergeist probably were inspired by the Dead of Night dummy. I remember seeing Poltergeist 2 in the theater as well and i remember being kind of freaked out by the vomit creature. lol.

  • @TheAltair4

Fats did moved on his own near the end without Corky as he moved his head and blinked his eyes.

  • @Johnlindsey289 Yeah, i know, but who knows what that was really all about, right? Magic is a very dark and unusual psychological thriller that kind of messes with your head a little.

  • @TheAltair4

It seems four early 80's but unique fantasy epics like Brazil, this movie, Legend and Nausicaa were butchered here in the US but luckily got their better cuts. Both this movie and Nausicaa (Under the Warriors of the Wind) title were released in 1985/1986 from New World Pictures in theaters, ah good old New World is what horror/sci-fi/fantasy/action studio that any 80's kid would never forget.

  • @Johnlindsey289 Yeah, although i still quite like the U.S. cut of this film actually. New World released a lot of really great movies that i grew up watching as a kid.

  • @TheAltair4

Some cool movies and not so cool movies like Return to Horror High and MountainTop Motel Massacre but their biggest achievement was Hellraiser 1 & 2.

  • @Johnlindsey289 And House, of course!

  • Yeah, Fletcher does kind of look like Tyrell. lol. My big brother and i both saw Transformers at the theater that summer, as i recall, and i went to see Great Mouse Detective with my younger cousin that summer too. Rattigan is my second favorite Disney villain second only to McLeach from Rescuers Down Under. I've seen Dead of Night, by the way, and i thought it was pretty cool.

  • @TheAltair4

Mcleach, Ratigan, Horned King, Maleficent, Jafar, Sykes, Captain Hook, Scar, Shan-Yu, Cruella Deville, Ursula, Wicked Queen and Shere-Khan are great Disney villains. Who's more creepier? Fats or Fletcher? do you think Dead of Night influenced this movie as well as Poltergeist? this also came out in the same summer of Poltergeist 2.

  • Does anyone know what kind of robot that is, that's in the movie?

  • I have the movie :-) It really creeped me out as a kid- still love it.. it's one of my "all time favorit" -

  • @Talsperre

One of my faves too since i was a kid and do you have it on DVD with both the US and German cuts?

  • But that was before Joey began MAKING CONTACT!

    YEAH!

This is the kind of film that could only be made in 85.

    Pure class.

  • @ExtremeBogom Those were the days, weren't they? I remember my parents taking me to see this when it was in theaters and i remember hiding my eyes through a lot of it because that evil looking dummy Fletcher scared the crap out of me. I had a very similar experience just a couple of years previous when they took me to see Strange Invaders, which had a lot of creepy shit in it as well. The 80's rocked and so did my parents for letting me and my siblings see such awesomeness at such a young age.

  • @TheAltair4

I was 6 years old the next year after this hit theaters when i rented it on video and BOY it scared the hell out of me. Did Fats also scared you as a kid too? i was 5 when me and my family moved to St. Louis in May of 1986 and one of the first movies we rented was Magic when we moved in our new house, it scared the bejesus out me. Do you think the score in the U.S. cut sounded like the Great Mouse Detective's score?

  • @Johnlindsey289 Yeah, i saw Magic on cable at a very young age and Fats nearly traumatized me. lol. The music in this movie reminds me of a lot of other scores, and Great Mouse Detective is surely one of them.

  • @TheAltair4

Well GMD and MC came out at the same summer you know since GMD came out July and MC came out the last day of August that year in 86. Fletcher looks like Tyrell from Blade Runner, Did you also saw Transformers the Movie in theaters that August as well? the German cut has a more original score since it sounds like Tangerine Dreams at times. This movie is one of the closet movies of being like Akira in live-action you gotta admit. Check out Dead of Night 1945 for another similar movie.

  • This is definitely one for the nostalgia critic. Maybe for next halloween. Creeped me out when i was little.

  • i was scared shitless of Fletcher!

and still sorta creeps me out

  • @deathbypowerglove

He still does too. Ever seen "Magic"? that dummy was just as scary.

  • Has'nt he got a toy spaceship that he shoots thing with in this movie.

  • @DoowopJohnnyBoy

Yes and i have the movie in both English American altered and German uncut extended subtitled versions.

  • good trailer

  • I never knew until recently that this movie was directed by Roland Emmerich, the same guy who directed Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow and 2012.

  • i agree hellofade2!

  • You remember this movie?

  • well it's been a long time since i've seen it but yes i do remember it.

  • @HelloFade2

I have the movie here on youtube with heavily cut/altered US dubbed version Making Contact and Uncut extended subtitled German version Joey. Check it out on my Account.

  • At the end, is that James Horner score from "Battle Beyond the Stars"? (New World trailers often used that...)

  • Oh wait no, it's music from the movie.

  • Not all of them.

  • I know, this is actually score from the film, I didn't realize it when I first posted the comment.

  • Who else thinks the German version of this movie is superior?

  • Hey everyone, i just uploaded the first part of the U.S. version and will upload the rest later and soon will upload the full uncut German language with subs version.

  • my names joey

  • Wow i havent seen this since i was like 6 years old in the 80's. I remember that dummy scared the shit out of me. I liked that Explorers film too.

  • I dreamed of the puppet ages after I saw this movie. It scared me like hell.

  • I own this movie on DVD in it's 2 disc special edition and that dummy still gives me the creeps. Has anyone seen the movie "Magic"? now that dummy is almost as scary as the one from this movie.

  • No shit pal, do you remember "Magic"? now that dummy was scary as hell. And does anyone remember "Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night"? that also scared me shitless and it's here on Youtube.

  • i saw a trailer for magic johnlindsey289 it looked good!

  • It's similar to Making Contact a.k.a. Joey, same evil doll.

You remember Joey a.k.a. Making Contact?

  • It says on the right side..

  • Yeah that was the creepiest movie ever. Though to be fair I also was creeped out by The Nothing in The Neverending Storrryyyy.

  • Well another evil ventriloquist dummy movie scared me when i was little back in the 80's, it's called "Magic" and had Anthony Hopkins in it. I was 4 back in 1986 when my family rented that movie and that scared me shitless.

  • scared the shit out of me too

  • This movei terrified me as a kid back in the 80's.
