  • Truly great advice from Alan Moore here. Thank goodness that this video exists here on YouTube. Thank you to LJ Pinding & Street Law Productions, and to the person who uploaded this video.

  • Such truth

  • Alan Moore. Respect.

  • This is good advice, fame and money are less valuable than self realization.

  • Wonderful advise! I love how simple and focused it is <3

  • @Dragonofether those 3 in the same sentence?! carlins dead btw

  • Whenever I need a pep talk I watch this video.

  • Hey, I really love this interview but is there any way you can up the volume at all?

  • Common sense to live by basically.

My first graphic novel comes out very soon, so I'm trying to prepare from the transition of seeing it on the drawing table to in print, this is the kind of the thing to keep you level.

  • remember, every one wants the same thing. Theres no such thing as a free ride in any career but hard work! This is a principle that works. The harder you work the richer you get.

  • Amazing advice. I listen to this almost every day. Thank you for posting this!!

  • Amazing advice. I listen to this almost every day.

  • When this man talks,LISTEN.

  • Great advice! I love Alan Moore! He is a god!

  • Preach Alan Moore!

  • true inspiration to me,

  • this is inspiring truly inspiring. I regard this guy as basically THE best guy working in the industry. He beats Frank Miller hands down, I mean he wrote a porno comic and gave it literary merit. Frank Miller wrote..All Star Batman

  • God, that's a pep talk right there. I really felt that way for years, and to hear it come from him, even the part of positive influence on his children was spot on in my heart. Listening to him makes me assured of my path in life. I truly appreciate human beings like him. During times when shadows blind your path and sight an angel appears and shed light, and it just might be Alan Moore. :)

Thank you to the interviewer and poster as well.

  • thank you ever so much for these videos SPRINGBOROUGHS2007:) is that you conducting the interview, you have a great technique and asked Alan some good questionss, i have only just read Watchmen and V FOR VENDETTA, both fantastic, picking up FROM HELL tommorrow from uni library, looking forward to it. did ya get chance to hang out with Alan after this? he seems like a genuinely friendly and warm hearted man:)

  • Woah. I thought Alan Moore was a dark, occult-ish guy with some deep voice. I didn't expect him being the coolest hippy-looking guy ever. I love his advice, and now he's so much more human talking about his kid and his fears about drawing and income, etc. I wish I could meet him now.

  • Problem is im having a hard time loving anything...even me.

  • Alan Moore knows the score.

  • 9 People aren't allowed in the Strongmen of America.

  • I don't know whether I want to slap or hug the interviewer!

  • Great advice from a great person!

  • if you disliked this you are a plastic robot plush toy douche

  • Amazing

  • great interview

  • So, in esscene what he's saying is...

"Never Compromise. Even in the face of Aramgeddon."

  • A brilliant man and very inspiring words!!! Follow your bliss whatever the cost is the only way to live!!!

  • he's very good but some of what he says is slightly contridicting, just thinking of the money increasingly dosnt matter comment. when in a world of increasing class divides, unfortunately it does. just perhaps not in the way of owning your own money does. DYA GET MIE?

  • Listen up youtubers, young folk and fellow aspiring artists, for the lord of awesome has spoken in this video. You will praise him.

  • i wish i had someone tell me this when i was 16.

  • @5686darryl ur nether too old, if you got kids like he said they wont die if you go on the doll to try n reach ur dreams, but they will learn to aim higher in life and love you for it

  • @faggisthehaggis i'm 25 lol. i'm an aspirig artist but didn't get serious about it as a life vocation until a few years ago.

  • My name is Mike from LA Although there busizz4me.info

  • He is so wise and sympathetic, I would love to have the honour to meet him one day.

  • Great advice, I think people hoping to make a creative or passion based career really just need to rememer when niggles of doubt and anxiety get to them, that barring a few born-geniuses like Mozart, 99% of all the 'greats' you admire were exactly where you where - Keep Scrapping. Worst thing that can happen is you spend your life doing the things you love, regardless of success or fame or whatever you'll have done alot better than most people do in a lifetime.

  • he reminds me of an old version of russell brand o__0

  • @firax456 Those two men have nothing in common.

  • Awesome clip. And Moore is 100% right but so many people sell out at the drop of the hat which is why the world is full of shit.

  • Yes! I want to git bet' ah!

    Alan is a god....

    Cool interview...

  • Good old Alan Moore

  • that guy is the shit man he knows wasup....and i bet he is stoned out of his mind

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome hair! :)

  • I'm gonna smack that guy tapping the pen.

  • The 9 people who disliked this were probably Stan Lee, 9 times.

  • He's absolutely amazing, and a huge inspiration (:

  • Reminds me of what Mozart said, "Love, love, love, that is the soul of genius".

  • Alan Moore's not in an officially recognised position as best person in the world, but, he is...

  • I like hoe LJ Pindling gives the thumbs up at the end.

He' s so happy he just got this amazing interview with a genius.

  • such an inspiration.

  • "There isn't a ceiling." The totality of Art summed up in four words, or five.

  • @ToxicWastoid 4 1/2 for compromise

  • guys u can put english subtitle?

  • @mmmikkko :haha

  • Theres no doubt why he is still the most important writer in comics. He's simply an inspiration. And as much of you have commented I would love to sit and have a chat with him. That would be a dream come true.

  • Just another reason to like Alan Moore. In addition to being an extremely talented writer, it would appear that he is an equally nice guy. I would love to sit down with this guy and talk comics, books, TV, music, and just life in general. Hell, I'd even bring my guitar so we could jam. lol

  • What a sensible man :)

  • My friends like rocks tars and rap stars, models and sporting celebrities. I like Alan Moore.

  • So true.

  • This should be like a motivational cd or something XD.

    i really feel inspired

  • I'll live my loife for Alan Moore!

  • ...very nice :p fare enough.

  • 1:46

  • yeah he still could have made money on those movies without having to actually put his name on them. and money unfortunately is not meaningless. don't believe me then look at the people who really don't have it.

  • Money has a meaning in this worl, but that doesn't mean it should define the meaning on one's life!

  • @mwells219 you blatantly didn't watch or understand the video before posting this lol.

  • "Alan Moore know's the score! --PWEI

  • Alan Moore's work changed my life, not 180 of course, but it is so brilliant and so benevolent that it made me want to be the later rather than so much the former that the later wouldn't matter.

But this is the advice successful AND distinguished artists have been giving for decades and these same artists keep getting screwed over. They keep getting obscured by the popular dross and the 95% of derivative hacks that would agree with them.

  • yeah it's absolutely tragic what DC did to alan moore. he got completely screwed out of royalties for the watchmen graphic novel.

  • What a great man and a very good and clear advice. The best of all.

  • I am glad this man is the hero I have chosen. Smart dude.

  • Moore has spoken take note

  • Nice to hear somebody say it's OK to be you - if you work at it. Respect.

  • advice for young artists? More like advice for young PEOPLE. You could apply most of that to life in general.

  • @hijodeganas My friend, people are naturally born artists ^_^

The problem is continuing to be an artist as you grow

(That's a quote from Picasso btw hahaha)

  • @JVThrillz What a load of bullshit. That's just elitist talk, from a fuckhead whose "art" was total fucking shit. Dont quote morons man, especially when they couldnt be more wrong.

  • @ObsidianImages You sound moody.Whats wrong with wanting to be n artist? You can be anything you WANT to be.

  • @DANPWNS123 Dan, i actually agree with you, if you want to be an artist, you can. I was responding to a quote from Picasso there who was....abysmal as an "artist" himself, i really dont like the "im an artist, im better than you" attitude. Anyone can do it, if they apply themselves enough.

  • @ObsidianImages Why thank you.Youre not one of those idiots on the internet eager for a "fight",but answered calmly like a normal person, and I highly respect you for that.

  • @ObsidianImages Haters gonna hate

  • @hijodeganas Very well said.

  • @hijodeganas which is why this is great advice <3

  • god has spoken

  • Here's my advice Write, Read, Rewrite, Color, Sketch, Revise. Keep on doing this for your enjoyment and love of the work.

  • Wonderful advice

  • loved the thumbs up at the end. More interviewers need to do that

  • I was under the impression that Alan Moore was some kind of fire breathing dragon, but he seems like a really cool guy.

  • He's BOTH!

  • @CatAtomic99 yes.. both.. like a Really cool Fire breathing dragon.

  • @CatAtomic99 He's a cool fire-breathing dragon.

  • @CatAtomic99 Looks can be deceiving

  • @CatAtomic99 He's only a fire breathing dragon to publishers and editors. ;)

  • @CatAtomic99

Who knows what he is in the comfort of his own dreams

  • the words from jesus..

  • with all the mystique built up around him, you'd never guess he'd be so cool as that

  • Mr. Moore is a genius.

An inspiration to many people, myself included.

    =]

  • wow amazing he really spoke to the artist in me shame im watching this vid on my break in my office.

im so going to do some writing when i get home!

  • Mr. Pindling, you need to be on television, if you're not already. Your work is superior to so much that is on there at the moment. BBC ITV notice this!!! Hire this man and let him help move society in a better direction!!!

  • Weird to imagine Alan Moore doing normal things like working in an office, looking after a baby. He's like a freaky cool space guru or something.

  • don't forget he worships a snake!

  • I may risk sounding fanatical but I must say that the existence of Alan Moore rekindles my faith in humanity.

    This interview series was sublime.

    Thank you.

  • @TheWorksOf yes

  • A poor writer, who gets published....I want to be the writer who knows he's doing what he loves for a living (even if it involves living a small flat), hell! I walk for a dream and if the dream is messy but happening....I take the dream. I am a writer and nothing. Also Alan Moore is a true master of comic books.

  • really great advice

  • alan moore is the nicest guy i have ever met

  • this man speaks the truth

  • You've got some pretty good advice. Especially about not focusing straight on fame & wealth at the very start. Bravo! If I had a hat, I'd take it off & shake your hand.

  • Alan Moore FTW

  • wat does tht mean FTW if its offensive mate tht out if not which i higlhy dopt

  • It means "for the win", and that's a good thing, don't worry.

  • That was really inspiring and informative.

I'm glad there are people in this world that follow their dreams and do make it somewhere so they can be a source of inspiration for other trying to do the same.

    Thank you Alan Moore

  • alan moore is a legand i met him u know at gosh last year i really wish to meet hiom again

  • great interview, do what you want!!

  • What does he say at around 4:45, "That gets them _____"?

  • "They're doing something that...that gets them by. Maybe they're entertaining dreams......."

  • that gets them by

  • "that gets them by" as in "they manage"

  • I agree with what Alan Moore said, except for one thing.

There's no boredom in the practice and training. At least for me. And I wouldn't give it up even if you paid me a million bucks. Or even ten million.

  • crusifixa you have a terrible englsih you should be slapped dozens of times and kicked in the face and um um gone out of ideas, just kidding, I think you are right crusifixa it is all within patience and self confindence.

  • alan moore and clive barker are my favorite writers. moore's inspiration was barker

  • I love you, Mr. Moore.

    Never stop being my inspiration.

  • This is very inspiring.

  • When you do what you like , even if you suck at it... eventually you will get better , and if you keep working , you eventually become really god, the fundaental thing here is , patience and perseveration (and do what you love xD)

    (sorry for the bad english)

  • I've listened to and read bits from people trying to give advice to young artists. But this, something about the way he explained it, or the words he chose, but it just inspired me. Made me feel like my dreams and loves can be the same, rather then having to follow the paths my mother has tried to force me down.

Thank you Alan Moore. I don't think I've ever admired someone nearly as much as you. And thank you for posting this up here on Youtube, you guys did a wonderful job with this interview

  • I totally agree. The things he said immediately just clicked with me, and the struggles that he described parallel mine quite closely.

  • lol there are writers everywhere that are either poor or university teachers at the same time lol but yea I agree with Alan you don't have to write for fame, it could just be a hobby or for your own enjoyment as oppose to writing to be in a spot light

  • im 21, really having no clue what i wanna proceed in the art industrie. Its tough.

shall become an artest, illustrator, graphic designer, doing 3d modelling, etc.

Money doesn't bring you true happiness, only to pay off the morgage, tax, etc. But i'm finding really hard finding junior trainings & jobs involve in creative stuff. :(

so that i can actually which path i should start on with. I excellent at drawing though :)

  • This is great advice. Writer's experience a lto of anxiety over their work, and I like Moore's opinion that you just have to work through it.

  • Love Mr. Moore's advice, but it's too bad this doesn't work if you live in a country where there is no comic books or literature culture. I'm from Portugal, a little country in Europe where "beeing a writer" means that you are either poor or a university teacher at the same time. Either you run away to other country or you find a 9-to-5 job. Great message, thought.

  • writer's being poor or teaching is a universal trend I think.

I;m an aspiring screenwriter and I don't have too much to look forward to beside that.

  • You're already hindering yourself if you're allowing such thoughts into your mind. You already planned failure when you should have been working on your craft and thinking about nothing else.

  • True. But, so you know, I'm not really that pessimistic or unconfident in my abilities.

Guess I should have put a wink emoticon at the end of the message

    Thanks for the advice, though.

  • you can write and work in other stuff , dont close your ´doors , the only one that is keeping you of doing something more and biger is you... owo... i will start my studies in phisics nex semester , but i love to write , I have the luck to be doing what I love , but just look at it.. what relation do you see between phisics and writing??? xD , the only one who can make you fail , is yourself ... the only one that put limits is you ...

    (sorry for the bad english)

  • damn,

    I adore this man :)

  • 'hope people, especially young pople, can, know and will use and PRACTICE wisdom and knowledge mr. moore sends to us thru his works!!

    love, peace, hug, kiss! ;D

  • 'hope that everyone, especially young people, who listen to alan moore or read his works, know, can and will find, and PRACTICE, wisdom and knowledge he is trying to send out to people!!

  • thats the right mentality =D

  • Can you imagine having Alan Moore as a dad.

  • do whatever you want, dont do whatever you dont want.

  • Alan Moore is Great!

  • Amazing.

  • Cool stuff.

  • Yeah, do what you love & the money will follow.

  • Alan Moore : Increasingly money doesnt mean that much either

The interviewer : Generally it means shaving all your hair and getting addicted to some drug.

WTF ? I thought Alan's the weird one.

  • @gustav234:

The interviewer is talking about Britney Spears.

  • Great advice! This shits legit!!!!

  • Maybe he and Snyder could do it together. Who wouldnt want to hear that? I think he could get his point across better by speaking up, instead of trying to avoid Hollywood and the frustration its caused him. Dont sign away rights or remove your name, but get vocal and involved. I know he hates movie adaptations, but what if he became a producer on an adaptation of one his books, he'd have some say in any changes.

  • People have likes and dislikes, and Alan doesn't like the whole Hollywood scene.

It all comes down to his personal likes and dislikes, and he acts on them. He doesn't get pushed around or talked into doing something he doesn't like doing, which I think is fantastic.

Once you start doing what other people tell you to do/act/etc, you lose yourself and aren't really you.

Alan Moore is LEGIT, and thats what I love about him.

  • I liked hearing this, because it kind of proves he's not the grumpy Ebeneezer Scrooge that he's made out to be.

But it also proves he can be a cool guy, so why does he choose to be a grouch? I was reading some website, and they had a great idea, instead of distancing himself from the Watchmen movie, why not go to them and ask to record a DVD commentary, Snyder being a huge fan would let him I'm sure, and he could talk about things he likes and dislikes about it.

  • It's not Synder....it's DC.

Just like Marvel, they screw over their best writers and creators beuse of greed.

    Stan Lee currently suing Marvel.

Moore not having any rights to Watchmen etc etc

  • Stan Lee suing marvel? I had no idea

  • No, Stan Lee Media is suing Stan Lee and Marvel.

  • Ah ok that sounds weird. Isnt that his company? lol

Anyways didnt he try to sue them at one time or another I coudla sworn it. Hard to keep up with these trivial things..

  • I needed to hear this.

  • this is a great video, Alan Moore is a real inspiration
