When I saw Metallica for the black album tour,they played Enter Sandman first.After James said"Poser fucks can go home now".Metallica was great for many years.Now....Iron Maiden has kicked ass for decades.Playing the same songs for 30+ years may get a wee boring.Not so crazy about the Blaze Era,but what a ride he had.

@TVismyopiate I would totally agree with you, if Maiden had sold out and started playing grunge or nu-metal. Like Dickinson did with Skunkworks. But Maiden, even though they don't sound EXACTLY the same as in the 80's, has always stuck with their guns and their own style. Their new music is amazing, but is always overshadowed by their classics. And it's most casual fans who want to get drunk and relive the 80's that want the classics, not us who listen to them almost every day.
Final Frontier was just. . .not up to scratch, the fan with the sign is right, i saw them for the first time at sonisphere last year and the set list was really dissapointing.

Personally i love Iron Maiden's work post 2000 there is so much maturity in it, they have delivered something new, by staying true to their roots something not every band out there is capable of doing...thats the reason i love maiden!

@crashin1 obviously you are not one who is particularly familiar with Prog Metal. The album is a classic, and Paschendale destroys nearly anything from the 80s. Powerslave and Seventh Son are still my favorites, but as a longtime fan, I find all of their post 2000 stuff better than Killer, Number of the Beast, Fear of the Dark, etc.
Their "worst" album is either Fear or No Prayer, by a lot.

I would hardly call their later works "Prog Metal", as that's a bigger insult to Iron Maiden than demanding they play classics. No, thankfully the only thing "Prog" about later Maiden is how their longer songs end up being incredibly repetitive by the half-way mark. Everything else is good/non-Prog.

If that were the case, we wouldn't be able to choose a favourite song or know what song's better than another song. In my opinion, Somewhere in Time and Brave New World are their best albums, while No Prayer for the Dying and Virtual XI are their worst. In my opinion, Aces High is much better than Invaders and Different World. We all think differently.

This is totally justified for several reasons, not the least of which being that Iron Maiden is not like so many metal bands whose new stuff isn't half as good as their old music. Iron Maiden, thank God, has not changed its style in 30+ years, and their new music is every bit as good as their old. Besides, I'm willing to bet this footage is from a tour promoting a new album that they worked their asses off making, so stepping out on the stage and seeing a sign like this would set me off too.

They DO play classics....Benjamin Breeg, Thousand suns, El Dorado., Talisman, Wicker man... all classics. I heard all the old classics live a thousand times, lets here the last four albums played more !!

I honesty fucking loved BNW, it's one of my favorite Maiden albums, I was so happy when I first found out there playing alot of the stuff from that on the Final Frontier tour.
Oh yeah, A Matter of Life Death was a kick-ass album too.
And agreed, Maiden may have its very enjoyable classics but honestly if people would give new stuff a chance it would allow those songs to become classics too.

Who the fuck would rather hear The Trooper or Run to the Hills than For the Greater Good of God or The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg? A Matter of Life and Death is the best Maiden album in my opinion and I hope they continue to play just the new progressive stuff with a few classics mixed in here and there. @MrMatt29999 Yeah The Final Frontier was not as good, still alright obviously, El Dorado, Coming Home, and When the Wild Wind Blows are great. And I as well would say Brighter Than a Thousand Suns or maybe FTGGOG is the best on the album, I love Lord of Light as well. Piece of Mind is excellent, right up there with Somewhere In Time, Brave New World and A Matter... IMO.
If they played only classics, then there new albums would'nt be important to anyone. Let's be honest - you've heard "Number of the Beast" once, you've heard it a million times! But you may only get to hear the current album tracks ONCE, and I wouldnt trade that for anything! UP THE IRONS!

@DarkMetalNightmare Im 16 and went to my first maiden gig last summer (2010, future reference) and all my buddies on the way out of the show were like "The fuck man they didnt play "Trooper" or "Run to the hills" I however was still pretty goddamned happy because maiden was doing something Unique by only playing recent stuff and as a real fan I can appreciate that. No matter what the setlist when Maiden plays ,you listen. And the entire time you do that your in awe of its sheer badass-ness

I don't get why people gripe about these tours. Older fans have heard the material before, so what's their problem? Newer fans need to realise that Maiden were playing the classics a decade or so before these people were even born. They're entitled to mix tihngs up to keep it fresh, and on a tour-by-tour basis, few bands mix things up as well as Iron Maiden does.
AMOLAD to my mind is their best entire album they made since Seventh Son and it deserved to be played full. Sad that they are not going to play it anymore :(

Well, I'm seeing them on the 17th for the first time ever (I've been a fan for 10 years) and I think getting to see them play newer stuff is great. Yeah, I am kinda bummed that I won't be able to see them play songs like The Trooper or Evil That Men Do, but I loved Brave New World and Dance Of Death so getting to see them play those songs is awesome in my book.
When I saw them in Vancouver on the Final Frontier Tour they played a lot of songs of Brave New World and really the only old songs they played were Number of the Beast, Fear or the Dark and Running Free.
I think the sign might set him off a bit making him think that people don't like the recent songs.

I would hardly call their later works "Prog Metal", as that's a bigger insult to Iron Maiden than demanding they play classics. No, thankfully the only thing "Prog" about later Maiden is how their longer songs end up being incredibly repetitive by the half-way mark. Everything else is good/non-Prog.

If that were the case, we wouldn't be able to choose a favourite song or know what song's better than another song. In my opinion, Somewhere in Time and Brave New World are their best albums, while No Prayer for the Dying and Virtual XI are their worst. In my opinion, Aces High is much better than Invaders and Different World. We all think differently.

This is totally justified for several reasons, not the least of which being that Iron Maiden is not like so many metal bands whose new stuff isn't half as good as their old music. Iron Maiden, thank God, has not changed its style in 30+ years, and their new music is every bit as good as their old. Besides, I'm willing to bet this footage is from a tour promoting a new album that they worked their asses off making, so stepping out on the stage and seeing a sign like this would set me off too.

I hate it when people demand from Maiden to play just what they want, as if they own Maiden... This band deserves the respect of their fans for everything they've done during their whole music career! They should play whatever pleases them... besides, a concert is for the fans, but also for the band ;)

Who the fuck would rather hear The Trooper or Run to the Hills than For the Greater Good of God or The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg? A Matter of Life and Death is the best Maiden album in my opinion and I hope they continue to play just the new progressive stuff with a few classics mixed in here and there. I hate bands that live in the past, which is why I love Maiden, they ain't one of em.

And I as well would say Brighter Than a Thousand Suns or maybe FTGGOG is the best on the album, I love Lord of Light as well. Piece of Mind is excellent, right up there with Somewhere In Time, Brave New World and A Matter... IMO.

@DarkMetalNightmare Im 16 and went to my first maiden gig last summer (2010, future reference) and all my buddies on the way out of the show were like "The fuck man they didnt play "Trooper" or "Run to the hills" I however was still pretty goddamned happy because maiden was doing something Unique by only playing recent stuff and as a real fan I can appreciate that. No matter what the setlist when Maiden plays ,you listen. And the entire time you do that your in awe of its sheer badass-ness

I don't get why people gripe about these tours. Older fans have heard the material before, so what's their problem? Newer fans need to realise that Maiden were playing the classics a decade or so before these people were even born. They're entitled to mix tihngs up to keep it fresh, and on a tour-by-tour basis, few bands mix things up as well as Iron Maiden does.

I have seen Maiden live 27 times.....I have seen the Trooper great as it is....almost every time...I have the DVD's to relive the past.....The new stuff is far too good to ignore....face it.....Maiden could do an encore with quest for fire...mother russia and lonelines of the long distance runner and it would be amazing to hear.......you're basically bitching that the greatest band ever is too good and has too many songs....Long Live the Beast

I can't stand all the people who claim to be "huge maiden fans" but then say a new setlist sucks. Iron Maiden is the best band in the world. Sure we all want to here classics and they do play a few on setlists, but thats not all they play. I have every Maiden album and would would pay to see any setlist. Wish people would quit whinning. Well, I'm seeing them on the 17th for the first time ever (I've been a fan for 10 years) and I think getting to see them play newer stuff is great. Yeah, I am kinda bummed that I won't be able to see them play songs like The Trooper or Evil That Men Do, but I loved Brave New World and Dance Of Death so getting to see them play those songs is awesome in my book.

When I saw them in Vancouver on the Final Frontier Tour they played a lot of songs of Brave New World and really the only old songs they played were Number of the Beast, Fear or the Dark and Running Free.
I think the sign might set him off a bit making him think that people don't like the recent songs.
