In all seriousness, I'm trying to figure out what the Rastafarian connection is with so many Maori's. I genuinely want to know. I see a fella wearing the colours of the West Indies region to represent the connection that Caribbean people have to Africa having being enslaved on brought on ships and a loss of heritage. How does this relate to New Zealand?

The sounds on this tune are gr8. Very heavily American influenced with hardly anything significant of New Zealand in there, but It's Sweet!

The only thing that I could add is that the significance of those wearing the colours are different.

For the Rastas and West Indians, it's about their roots in Africa, whereas for others who see them wearing these colours and playing reggae, they see it as face value as 'reggae thing'.

@o9i8u7y6t5 im not an expert on the subject but I do know that it soared in popularity amongst Maori after Bob Marley visited New Zealand in the 70s. They liked the political aspect of the music and used reggae as means of expressing their own struggles at a time when being Maori was not considered to be very fashionable and the NZ Government tried to minimize Maori language and culture as much as possible. Things are very different now though.

I'm Asian immigrant who grew up in NZ and I have to say that I love and cherish my NZ identity. For me growing up there were difficulties in learning about NZ culture. There was a language barrier, plus the fact that I just really play sports. I really cherished the kiwi friends I made during Primary and Intermediate.
