I was privileged to call on radio programmers with "The First Minute of a New Day" which included this amazing and haunting song in 1975. His performance that year in Houston was unforgettable. After the show I drove him in my '53 Chevy to our Pacifica radio station to do an interview. They were just about the only media outlet that would pay us any attention. He was very kind to me and I'll never forget him~
I'll never forget him being on a show back in the 70s. He was talking and messed up a word. After correcting himself he apologized, saying that, "English isn't my first language". The depth of that statement told of his underlying understanding of things people still can't grasp today. Heck, he was talking about stuff in the 70s that you are just starting to see on websites NOW. God bless you, Brother GIl........
Thanks for kicking my young white butt with words of wisdom and action...Your portrayal of struggles, of substance abuse, of life, of culture, of reality has moved so many for so long...Rest now, and may your words ring throughout the world forever...Peace
this number rooted me to the spot when he came to Sheffield, UK - it was a sunday gig and the management pulled the power at 10.30 sharp (licensing laws) whilst he was still performing...someone in the audience shouted out "give us a poem,Gil!" and so he belted out a few poems acoustically - there was no stopping the man! He'll never be dead for me x
True Prince of Peace, thank you Gil for "adopting" me & saving my little life...i will never forget you & the pain of your loss is equal when i lost my grandma you said iwas too young to give up, Little Rose grew up & turned a million X million people to your awesome Power, Vision, Light and it hurts bad right now.5-28-11

this man has always been my most loved musician, seems as if all his songs can apply to today, my most favorite is 'A poem for Jose Campos Torres" ,truly incredible!

hes still a great poet. as a matter of fact, he has a new single called "Me and the Devil" and has a new album dropping soon. good thing he didnt succumed to the pipe.
@jonnyjonesify Is he off the pipe? I really hope so....he is the most significant voice of all time. I missed an opportunity to meet him when he spoke at my alma mater, San Francisco State U. I began collecting all of his music. I keep asking TVOne to do an Unsung segment on him.
This has found a new home in my favourites! Thank You... Time remembers great artists! I love to be inspired! Thank You Gil Scott Heron - The music rocks my soul .
Gil Scott-Heron, will be an in-put that will always driver this nation as long as we REMEMBER his words and his strength he stands for. Take Care and GOD bless you my brother
Sitting on a beach in Southeast Asia and it was the only tape I had. Indonesia has a backtrack of Gil for me now. Small-minded, maybe. But better Gil than some nonsense. Thanks for posting this.
This man is a genius. His ability, talent and sheer grasp of social issues has never been fully appreciated...other than here! I hear he's back as well. Can't wait to see him.
i fucked him once, he came about 4 times and when i pulled my 10 inch dick out of his ass and came all over his face, he turned to me as he wiped my thick white load off his face and said, it's winter on my face. we both laughed, then i slapped his butt.
generalbullmoose, you obviously do not know much about the vicious circle created by neo-liberalism, where as the poor get poorer, the rich get richer. there are statistics to prove this, i'm not just talking out of my hat...
I havent read anything but the common sense tells me, here in Britain, awesomely rich country, I just recently read somebody who has been paying for his morgage for 20 years TWENTY YEARS and became unempoloyed couldnt meet up with the payments, the banks just took the house from them ????
Where did all the money go to, couldnt happen in Finland, they would have to take into consideration how long they have been paying already ! Outrageous !!!!

@jonnyjonesify Is he off the pipe? I really hope so....he is the most significant voice of all time. I missed an opportunity to meet him when he spoke at my alma mater, San Francisco State U. I began collecting all of his music. I keep asking TVOne to do an Unsung segment on him.

I love this dude.

Where did the money go to ?
