  • The greatest song these guy's laid down. Phew,...... and what a collection!! Chisel are definately the greatest australian group of all time. forget ac/dc, forget INXS..... forget Kylie god forbid!! Chisel are Australia's most dynamic, original and hardest hitting Aussie act ever!~!!! Ian Moss the cleanest sounding guitar player...... that's an angel's tone dude on that stratocater!! The sweetest sound to my ears.

  • ALL HAIL COLD CHISEL!!!!...

  • @TTaido Well said mate, that's why they said "f**k off" to the American Music Industry anyway.

  • cold the fuck chisel!!!!!!

  • gold

  • Everyone subscribe to me for great songs!

  • Saw the boys play last week in Adelaide and when "Flame Trees" came on I had a flood of memories come back that I had completely forgotten. I saw Jimmy sing this in Bathurst back in 1998 during the V8 Supercar Race. I was with my girlfriend at the time who since passed away 3 years ago. The words have so much more meaning now than they did back then. RIP Jay-Marie. We miss you so much (just broke rule number 3)

  • Ah Chisel. Half their songs were about finally getting away from some little country town. The other half were about going back home again ! Love em.

  • dream band,

  • Bout my hometown.. i always play this when i drive into Grafton

  • @MySassyfrass Then you're clearly a faggot.

  • @myjizzureye Clearly, you are not worth the time it would take to argue with you

  • @MySassyfrass You don't know unless you try...do you faggot.

  • @myjizzureye faggot you mus b gay g

  • @nigger290963 You're sharp aren't you tiger ^.o

  • i was at this concert and love it

  • Reminds me of a lazy summer arvo... love this song

  • @yan00eva M8 Go see em live. beats the sh1t out of any recording they ever made.

  • Cootamundra!!!

  • sorry guys, i think i broke the replay button. i fucking LOVE this song :D

  • @mellzrox4eva You poor b@st@rd. I'll send you mine. O fcuk mine is broken too!!

  • @enlightenediamond, lol no fight here :-) i respect your opinion, after all that's what makes the world go round right? And you make a good point, in that the Sarah Blasko version is more an interpretation than a cover, but I will never agree that any interpretation or cover will ever be better than the original. At the end of the day, different songs/versions touch us emtionally for different reasons, and for me, nothng will ever beat this. Cheers :-)

  • Makes me proud to live in grafton :)

  • 3 people with no soul

  • Awesome song!

  • grafton nsw australia the home of the flame trees were this song was writen and i live here..

  • This song is made of magic. And magic is made of this song.

  • Guitarist's, Thumbs up if Fender should make an Ian moss signature Strat!

  • 2003... Off the Ringside DVD...

  • what year is was this?

  • This song reminds me of someone who I loved very much and brings me back to another place and time!

  • One of my all time favourite Cold Chisel songs. I will never forget this band, I grew up with them and the flash me back to my youth. Thank you for the great memories xx

  • An Australian classic song. I love and always will till I die..... Thank you Cold Chisel xxx

  • god he is amazing live, no one will ever replace jimmy

  • LEGEND

  • While he may not perform in a band that will ever have true worldwide fame (and what a shame that is, Chisel are awesome) and therefore he might not get the publicity and recognition like some of the biggest names in the business Jimmy Barnes must rate as one of the greatest frontmen going round, on a par with Steve Tyler and the like for my money.

  • Before we venture off to defend this great country or keep piece for another, this song is played 20-30 times during the night before just to let us know what we are fighting for and what to come back to.

  • ditto

  • vale steve prestwich, you made our lives richer, now there is no more Chisel, but in our hearts you drove a beat with the best of the them, thankyou

  • Fantastic song, just discover and enjoying it from Valencia Spain.

  • The best version, end of story :) Noone does it like Barnesy...nope

  • I'm from Afghanistan but lived in Australia for 12 years...I love this song and the video and im promoting it 2 all my mates in the Taliban...It deserves justice and woldwide recogniton..Go the Chisel.

  • @Heterick I'm not sure what you're getting at? Real music? Real music stirs the soul and emotions, as this song ovbiously does for myself and many others. Barnsey may not be the 'best' singer if you're talking technical, but what he has is the soul and emotion. The covers of this song fail to stir those paticular emotions for me, is all. They may be very good musicians, techinically they may sing 'better' than barnsey. Thats not what this song is about. Cheers :-)

  • Greatest song ever by the greatest band ever! that is all...

  • Number three is never say her name. It can hurt too much.

  • Is Just as simple as CHISEL.

  • Fuck you all. I'm going to see Cold Chisel LIVE in 2 hours!!!!!!!!! Thank uploader!

  • I have played in bands and we tried to play this but it is one of those songs thats sounds easy but is not, the best part is the middle eight, one of the best you will ever hear, takes you back to making those takles, or missing them, but the point is, it is a hard song to play and get it right, thats why we left it

  • 307bp..I lived in USA in 1988 and i was selling this song to my mates, they said this is great (original song from radio songs). Jimmy Barnes barnes mans he's hot they said.....freight train heart was out should have sold well insouth but didin't....

  • chills

  • don walker ...what a ledge...love ya man

  • Blast song from the past... memories of Oakleigh - Findon High School sport exchange... 1986/7.... :)

  • Saw chisels first time they came back. Still Fucking Rock. Everytime my Partner goes away with the army they play chisels the night before, they all know what they are fighting for.......

  • still rocking, better and better

  • Dead right harl, dead right.

  • Bloody brilliant...they just get me deep in my soul...Mate I can't even describe

  • Lord Blackadder doesn't wear a nappy.

  • love it how every other performer covers SHit with something else... BArnesy still Lets her loose... killer song

  • love it!!!!

  • Brilliant lyrics ... not nearly enough of that in the music of today.

  • Yes I agree this was recorded last thursday

  • oh dont ya just want to be there!! spine chilling stuff!

  • I was for their Brisbane show. I was around 13, probably the youngest there! Still remember it like yesterday, bloody brilliant.

  • The soundtrack to any aussie or kiwi kid growing up in a country town.

Brings a chill thinking of my home town and some of the awesome country towns I visited in aussie whilst travelling round.

Great memories. One of the greatest groups.

Legends are used too often but legends sum up Chisel!

  • don't kiwis just listen to tribal music?

  • Oh the flame trees will blind the weary driver And there's nothing else could set fire to this town There's no change, there's no pace Everything within its place Just makes it harder to believe that she won't be around

  • I agree with harlemraine. Some songs just aint meant to be covered.

  • look up vbvbvb088 for chisel bootlegs.

  • I couldn't of said it better Herlemraine. Cold Chisel has that effect on most of the songs they have realised. The raw emotion they have stirred up. Making them one of the greatest bands to ever step onto a stage

  • This song grabs my soul.......love it! x

  • You know what, I don't mind a good cover of any song done well, but all the covers of this are terrible.

the Whitlams and Sarah Blasko covers are so bland, and devoid of emotion.

The whole point of this song is to stir up those emotions that we all have for our hometowns. It's pure emotion.

This is one of those songs that shoeuld never be covered, as none would ever come close.

Just my opinion of course ;-)

    Cheers

    Harlemraine

  • couldnt of put it better

  • Totally agree. No one does this better than Cold Chisel and no one can sing it like Jimmy. Everytime that bridge comes alone it just makes me quiver. Its amazing. That said... I do really want to play it cause its just such an amazing song, but I don't think we'd do it justice...

  • Hey spongey, I think this song covered in a pub, with all the emotions that the song stirs up, is magic in itself.

I just don't think other big 'artists' should cover it in studios, it's too 'clinical' and misses the point IYKWIM?

Now if I'm in a pub listening to a band, and they play it and if it's half decent, and the whole pub is singing thier lungs out, that's a different story.

    That's magic in itself.

    Again, just my opinion

    Harlemraine

  • Oh I totally agree. Just as long as the pub band does it well. I had a listen to that woman (whatever her name is) and he cover... It was just bland. One of the reasons I love this song so much if because of all the emotions it stirs :)

  • I say go for it if you have a band.

You'll either do a fantastic job and have the whole place going wild

Or you'll kill it and they'll run you off the stage :-) :-p

    Cheers

    Harlemraine

  • We can't loose! ... Well we can but you know...

  • Absofuckinglutely

  • @harlemraine I forget the Australian movie it was in, but a kids choir singing it was fucking creepy.

  • @michaelbeckham hey Michael, I think it was called Little Fish? or something like that. It had Cate Blanchett in it. Never saw the movie but have seen the kid choir singing it on you tube here, and afree. It just wasnt right lol

  • @harlemraine Yeah it was Little Fish, it was just creepy coming from kids, but it was a creepy scene anyway.

  • @harlemraine

If uve ever listened to real music u'll realise sarah blasko and Jamez Heart have sang this song better then barnsy ever will

  • @Heterick4 you are one stupid motherfucker if you believe this.....

  • @Heterick4 your are one stupid motherfucker if you actually believe what you wrote fool...

  • @Heterick4 What the hell is wrong with you?

  • @Heterick4

if by 'ever will', you mean like 'in the future', maybe your comment isn't completely absurd, but if you mean to say blasko's and heart's are better than barnes' original, then, wow...it's just really hard for me to comprehend an opinion like that. check out barnes' version in the youtube video entitled "chisel bootleg-flame trees'. Bad quality, but barnes sounds really good.

  • @harlemraine

I've gotta say I'm not a fan of any Chisel Covers either...despite some great bands having a crack at them.

I have to admit though that there's one cover that's slowly infecting me and ..dare I say it.. makes me think it's almost better than the original... The Living End's cover of Rising Sun. I think it's brilliant !!

To echo what you said though...just my opinion... :o)

    Cheers 2u2

  • @jd9995 hey just went and had a listen, I like it! Dont mind a cover done well, that stays true to the original meaning, living end do a pretty good job of it, but I wouldn't go so far as to say I like it better than the original, lol! As you say, each to thier own :-)

    Cheers Harlemraine

  • @jd9995

Have to admit that Cosima's version of WTWIO is superb

  • @harlemraine

couldnt agree more. wish they would leave it alone!

  • @harlemraine I agree, unless they've come from a small hometown, no band will be able to cover this song properly

  • @harlemraine I don't want to start a fight - and hell knows I've started enough here with "just my opinion",.. I loved this when it came out even though at that time I was a little past Chisel. And like you, I'm not much into covers generally - but I think Sarah Blasko's version is brilliant, comparable and possibly even better than this the original - at worst it's certainly not 'bland' as it evokes emotion in a different way to this, as it's a 'version/interpretation'' not a 'cover', yeah?

  • Classic Chisel. Hearing this song live on the Ringside Tour in Tassie was pure magic.

Don't get better than Chisel, one of the best live Aussie bands there is.

    Cheers

    Harlemraine

  • Oh the flame trees will blind the weary driver

And there's nothing else could set fire to this town

There's no change, there's no pace

    Everything within its place

Just makes it harder to believe that she won't be around

  • 2003

  • really great song gotta respect a true aussie band

  • I love this song reminds me so much of Grafton (funny that)

  • reminds me of being a kid great stuff

  • My favorite verse is - and number 3 is never say her name... dunno why just always gets my attention:)

  • An awesome song by the best Aussie band!

  • bloody beautiful

makes me proud to be australian

  • Sorry mate, everyone knows Jimy has the vocal, range friggin everything, cant compare!

  • Great Song with some great hooks but I wish Jimmy Barnes had never sung it. Mossy was the voice in this band imo.

  • jimmy's voice is very unique, and thats what makes any chisel cover seem awfuly strange in comparrison. although i must agree with you in the fact that mossy definately has the vocals here.

it all depends on the song. :)

  • just learned about this man a week ago he is some piece of work.he has to have irish blood.

    definetly a legend

  • Jimmy's a full-blooded Scotsman ;).

  • Fantastic!! Beautiful! ...And i'm not even australian:D
