  • What an authentic man with soul lifting words. Ray is truly a gift of Universe.

  • Forget about the ignorant woman. Just listen to Ray.

  • Who's the hot broad with the Fran Drescher voice?

  • That blue lady needs to calm down. and I'd also like to know who has their cell phone on when in the presence of one of the most fantastic writers ever to live

  • 4 people are the lady in blue. CRAZY.

  • Jesus... that woman is such a dick! Poor Ray..... what a fantastic guy though!

  • Ray Bradbury is a god amongst men but what the hell is wrong with that wOmAn's vOoOiCe? Jesus...

  • From listening to Ray speak alone, you can tell that he is a very good writer. He knows how to tell a story.

  • Halfway through that crazy little lady's speech, I got to wondering what would happen if she chose to introduce Harlan Ellison that way. Ray is very polite and respectful and kind in this situation, but Harlan would probably rip that nut's head off and use it as a seat cushion.

  • Amazing to hear him tell that story about Mr. Electrico. He is hinted at the possibility of passed life. I've had the same experiences in my life of synchronicity and providence. I wish I was there to meet Ray Bradbury.

  • It's really pathetic when at venues like this you realize that the people that booked him and the people that introduced him have (unfortunately for them) never read a word he's written.

  • From the git-go, this woman in blue was in trouble when she made the quote, Science Fiction is a Fantasy! Feel a tad sorry for her. After that she was caught up in the moment, caught up in the fantasy she herself described.

  • soo truee

  • i just wanted to smack that lady so bad. she didn't know how to present him, what a clown

  • That woman in blue was crazy.

  • THE GREAT ONE!

  • She's clearly insulting him...

  • amazing

  • I saw Ray give this talk at WorldCon in 2006, at the end of the convention. What a fantastic, wonderful, inspiring story... chokes me up every time. I'm so glad this is posted here... thanks, netcinema!

  • Oh, my god that lady in blue is so annoying!

  • I can tell by the look on Ray's face that he probably would agree.

  • Cool! I was here!

  • He is a living monument. In fact, one of the most influential authors during the last century. His credentials as a writer are his poetic style and his weird imagination. I agree with the others comments. Please, Ray, wipe out the lady!

  • He really is, isn't he? Who else gets electrocuted by a carnie as a child, is told to 'live forever' and still looks and speaks wonderfully almost into his hundreds??? He may very well live forever!!!

  • SOMEONE should have smacked her! What a condescending woman. I'm R.B's biggest fan over here in the U.K! Great books. :D

  • Omggg<3

  • That lady is very annoying, Bradbury you could tell wanted to smack her.

  • She frightened me.

  • I think many a Bradbury fan and this is probably true with many favorite authors -- and specifically true of those of us who write or who are in the entertainment industry in one way or another -- we always hope the ones who speak to our very soul, that we don't just meet them, but that we inspire them one day the way they have us, and make them proud, like a parent or mentor.

  • What an amazing guy.

    On an off note

Is he in a wheelchair now? How'd that happen?

  • SlickFiction:

Ray had a stroke (likely more than one)...and little by little it was suggested that he use a wheelchair wherever he goes. Should he fall, that would be a huge problem, especially resulting with a broken hip or such.

He gets out regularly, was honored last week at the Jules Verne Society, demonstrated with the Hollywood striking writers on Wednesday, and writes and produces his small theater plays.

  • Awesome. Any chance that you might know when we can expect to see that new Fahrenheit 451 movie out? Just asking because you seem rather knowlegeable.

  • SlickFiction: First, when you can, go to YOUTUBE: RayBradburyChannel Lot's of stuff, including "favorites" of Ray's famous Prune Commercial. As to Fahrenheit movie, Mel Gibson has the rights to produce the movie. And he's doing nothing. There's a video clip on the above mentioned RayBradburyChannel where Ray mentions this. THAT video is titled..."Ray Bradbury talks about Gene Kelly", etc....

  • Thanks, I'll check that out.

  • Thanks for the update.

  • that lady is SOOOOO good at putting her thoughts into spoken words (this statement is meant to be made with extreme sarcasm)

  • Man! If ever there was a candidate for that big long cane with the hook on the end, used in vaudeville to haul bum acts off of the stage, it would be dat der SQUAAAKY WOMAN!!!

  • QUANTUMLORD18 ~

The reason I left it in is a sort of C-SPAN style glimpse of what are few of the things Ray encounters when he speaks somewhere. Thanks for your comment. You did a god job of describing the situation.

  • netcinema ... Your editorial instincts were bang-on! If nothing else "she", conveyed some aspect of pathos! In this specific context, I'll leave it to posterity to discern who personified the pendulum swing of sublime, and who the swing of ridiculous!

  • OMG I know she is talking about him like he is senile and embarassing herself. I think she beleives she is speaking loud for him to hear. Such a brilliant man.

  • wow! this guy is old

  • Older folks are a true treasure my friend. I suggest you read "The Time Machine" and/or "Dandelion Wine"

  • Older folks are a true treasure my friend. I suggest you read "The Time Machine" and/or "Dandelion Wine"

  • my "older folks are a treasure" comment should have posted as a reply to the "wow! this guy is old" comment. Why it didn't, I don't know, but it sounds really weird out of context.

  • Holy crap that woman is annoying. Get to the Ray interview!

  • The lady doing the intro is kinda annoying but man, I would put up with her to see Ray Bradbury again! I was lucky enough to hear him speak at our junior college in the early 1970s; great speaker and a fantastic author!!!!

  • Good interview, but the lady's voice was like biting tinfoil.

  • Living Legend!

  • This man is the reason I wrote "Historic Third Ward." Don't blame me, blame him.

  • Great story!

  • Good bradbury
