  • 223 is 5.56mm 6.8 would be 1.24mm wider, the barrel would be about the same thickness if maybe a few mm thicker, nothing to write home about but these rifles are great so im not complaining... lol, great vid

  • nutn ive been looking into one of these for a tactical/recreation shooting gun about what do they run price wise now ? btw i know your a big big fan of lighter is better but i prefer the durablity aspect of the proprietary ring mounts yes i know that it affects eye relief and mouting of the scope but honestly i prefer open sights in a carbine rifle but thats just me

  • Wouldn't a 30-rounder technically be high-capacity for a Mini-14 since factory standard mags only go up to 20 rounds?

  • So long as you're talking about "proper terminology" (standard capacity vs high capacity)......refer back to part 1 of the video where you reference "so long as the political climate ALLOWS". What we should be saying in these cases is "does not PROHIBIT". Goes along with discrete carry vs concealed carry and so on. We need to all stop using the words and terms the Left have created to cast a bad light upon us. Great videos! keep'em coming!

  • One reason for lack of accuracy is due to the retaining screws at the fore end of the stock. The factory does not tighten them to a uniform tension, Generally, if you loosen the 4 screws and tighten them equally, you'll see the accuracy increase.

  • @siesonekmk I might not be able to spell never have. But on active duty I was a 4th award rifle expert( the highest scores on the kd range in the marines) also a 2nd award pistole expert. I wasnt kidding I will put my money aganest any shooter that is not a pro full time comp shooter, with any ar with stander barell aganest me and my mini 14 any day. Its all in the fundamentales and very soon I will have the vids up to prove it.

  • that's still pretty good for 100 yards.

  • @ClydeMcFarlain LOL yea thats all i care about

  • you know what, even though some of the things nutnfancy says, i have to agree that he is very very unbias! always saying "i have never had a problem with it, but it dosent mean it hasnt happened" so instead of concluding that because it worked for him it works for everyone, or vice versa, he always reviews the most important elements

  • grouping is the shooter and not the gun i will put my money wear my mounth is. My mini is one moa out of the box with iron sights

  • But love your vids and you are a very knowledgeable man on your wepons

  • Hey nutinfancy I love your vids but got to say I just stoped your vid to make this comment on the acurcey of the miny. I am a combat marine and own a mini ranch rifle and got to say if you was shooting those groups on a marine rifle range the couches would kick your but for not useing proper markmanship fundementles. at 100 yards you should always have a lot tighter group than that even if its just a 22. you can blam the rifle if its off bullseye but the groups tell the hole story

    bu

  • @jnpiel If you are indeed a "combat marine" you need to seriously get some training in English.

  • 09:42

Those holes don't look much bigger than that of shotgun pellets.

    Can explain my experience...

  • NRA is a sell out organization. If you are really concerned with protecting your Second Amendment rights, join the National Association for Gun Rights. Its web address is NationalGunRights period org

  • i have to agree with you nutinfancey dont believe the internet in words of my grandfather believe none of what you here, and half of what you see

  • Can you give me your opinion on a good red dot sight for the mini? And what type of rail I would mostly likely need?

  • @ClydeMcFarlain man size yes. beer bottle prolly not.

  • I own a new model Mini 14 in .223 and I consistently shoot 2MOA groups, sometimes sub 2. Not quite 1MOA but it is possible to get 2 or less. Good review though. Love my Mini. Been in the Army a while and I'd rather use my personal Mini than my issue M4.

  • @ClydeMcFarlain hell yes. 2 MOA means 8 MOA 400 yards out. So you are hitting and area small then a dinner plate 400 yards out. Yell 500 yards out and it is still smaller then a dinner plate, so you can hit a man 200 yards out no problem. Unless you really suck.

  • @ClydeMcFarlain Why not go for the M 14 " Scout with the short barrel. They are heavy but very accurate when zeroed in.

  • @ClydeMcFarlain In the Army I was able to qualify "sharpshooter" with the full M 14. Some years later I was able to bullseye time after time with the Mini. Very comfortable , very accurate.

  • nuttin is just a fan of the A-team.

  • @ClydeMcFarlain YOU BETCHA YA CAN !!!

  • You need to install an accu-strut onto your mini-14's man. It will cut the size of your groups in half.

  • I heard someone tested bending both barrels newer & older- Said the new was just thicker with cheaper steel, so the flex was still their. But who knows.

  • so can you go hunting with theas?

  • @sweettooth80 check your state laws ... most states consider the .223 a "varmint" round ... it's illegal to hunt deer with less that .30 caliber in most states. You can kill rodents all day with it ... I saw a guy take a young wild boar with one - but it took two hits .... so it depends on whether you like hunting rodents or medium sized game.

They do make the mini 30 in 7.62x39 like the AK.

  • After watching your vids on the mini-14 I am considering getting one. I was wondering if you have any hands on with the tactical model.

    thanks

  • shopruger , ruger's online store, now has factory 5 10 20 30 and even 40 round magazines. They are very expensive, 20 rounders 40dollars, 30 50dollars, 40 60dollars. But before u go buying after market magz might wanna get one or two of these factory's for insurance. Lifetime guarantee..

  • so in a SHTF situation the mini 14 barrel will just over heat and warp or what

  • @kp7100 No it will not. Not even the pre-2005 models with thin barrels. If ur mini14 has a serial number starting with a 5 and 8, it is arguably more reliable than the highest end ar15.

  • @vinnybarbin111 He's working, and you're right, you're not going to get a response from him. But to be fair, he generally doesn't respond to any channel that is "unavailable". Thanks for playin. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • @nutnfancy LOL

  • @nutnfancy I bet this person hasn't watched all his vids nor do they know him in person.I may be wrong but im sure I remember him carrying a mini14 in a few of his videos, One video I think of is the one were he is explaining why he where's his pistol in the chest mount position.

  • @nutnfancy Hey does nutn think Wolf Ammo would be ok to run the through the mini? thanks and i love your vids!

  • @nathanial41 yes he does it

  • @vinnybarbin111 @nutnfancy LOL THERE ARE IS A VIDE LINK RIGHT NEXT TO WHERE IM TYPING..

  • @vinnybarbin111 In another video he mentions that he has been using mini-14s since (i think it was the 70s.. maybe 80s). and that he used to hate ARs and the like, and would only trust a mini. troll harder.

  • would someone recamend a mini-14 as a first gun to me 13 my friend has 1 and he shot all day and it was cool there was no jamming

  • i would join the NRA but im 13.

  • @MrNateman89 Get a fake id.

  • what? a 223 is the same diameter as a 6.8 mm

sorry but no a 223 (5.56mm) is not the same diameter

  • @daviddavid6000 he was talking about the barrel not the bore itself. (duh)

  • @daviddavid6000 aye it's 1.24mm bigger hehe

  • Mini 14's SUCK because YankeePrepper says so and he knows EVERYTHING!

  • @mrjon75 And dont you try to tell him that he doesnt know everything.

    LOL

  • @mrjon75 LOL, YP is a jerk.

  • A very interesting video on the Mini 14 and enough information to know that their not that accurate beyond 50 yrds. I'll stick with the Sig Sauer or my .270, which is a tack driver at 300 plus yrds.

  • @1LonePuma What kind of accuracy do you want for a tactical carbine, you aren gonna get .5 moa out of any tactical carbine.

  • Ya, I have to agree with yolk1234. California has gone outrageously anal about the citizens who want to own firearms. The politicians have no clue of the pattern of what law abiding citezens are going through. We try to protect ourselves, families, and our livelyhoods from unruely perps. The problem is, is that criminals won't go into a gun store, and buy a gun to commit a crime.90% of these crimes are commited by stolen weapons, period. Law abiding citizens need to protect themselves.!!!!!!

  • @brandontntbel1 Unfortunately, the prospect of changing california law is almost nil. I don't want to discourage you if you want to stay and fight it, but it's realism. The best way to punish California law makers is to move and take your business and tax dollars with you. If enough people did this, and the numbers are promising, California will have to find new ways to create revenue or go bankrupt. They may be already there...maybe then the voters will have to wake up.

  • @kimberHD45 The ability of the CA state government to not learn, and not accept responsibility for the consequences of their own actions, has to be seen to be believed.

As people and businesses move away, the state will raise taxes on those who remain and will start fining taxpayers for moving away. They will learn NOTHING.

Ending up with an impoverished banana republic with a tiny elite of well-connected oligarchs in charge is not a bug, it's a feature.

  • @voltamp Is it just me, or do you sound like you have given up? There has to be an answer. Where's the Ohms in the voltamp equation?

  • @kimberHD45 There is always an answer. It's just not always the one that we want. The answer is, a crash.

I have indeed given up on CA. It's past some sort of tipping point. As long as I can make an income here, I might stay a while. But the writing is on the wall.

    Ohm's law: V = IR.

    Heating power (volt.amperes, i.e. watts) = I^2R.

R = resistance. There isn't enough of that. Lots of complacent sheep, though.

  • @voltamp hey man im an H.V.A.C. tech as well as an proud virginian firearms enthusiast and i just have to say that i loved that. thumbs upand good luck out there on the left coast.

  • I have regrets, dont buy it. Buy a SKS. 6 inch group at 100 is not acceptable with the minis.

  • well and regardless of the part about necessity. "Good people" do not go on killing sprees. Some politicians assume that you put a gun in someone's hand and they go on a shooting rampage. Most people are good people, and good people follow rules, and are generally responsible.

  • idk why california is so anal about guns. arizona just let everyone carry handguns around whenever wherever and now crime rate has already dropped! politicians are dumb

  • nutnfancy you are the man!!!

  • Hey NutnFancy I'm a big fan! I have a question for you. I have a .308 Poly Tech M14 and I was looking to get an AR15. I was wondering if you think I should sell it or not? The price of ammo as an issue for me and I would like to make it a bit more assault rifleish like the stalk but new stalks run expensive for that rifle.

  • okay guys u try some 62 grains threw it perfect shots

  • How would I be able to tell the difference between the thicker and thinner barrel mini 14 if I don't have them both in front of me to compare? Are all the thicker ones silver with that weirder looking thing on the end or are some black too?

  • stupid UK only lets you get zero round mags. 'cos we cant have mini 14's :(

im stuck with double barrels. anyone wanna let me stay at their house in somewhere like utah so i can shoot carbines and rifles? ;)

  • one of my dream guns

  • Nutn, Ive seen where there are now 30 roung polymer Tapco mags available for the mini 14. Do you have an opinon on those???

    thanks

    great vids btw

  • harmonic barrel tensioners greatly impove older mini's accuracy for under 350 bucks! i can get consistent 1.5'' groups at 100yds check out clark customs. side note- ar's are very accurate but must be kept clean! mini's are much more forgiving in dusty conditions.

  • The action on the mini 14 also sounds way better then an AR.

  • yes, "pro"mags are anything but. just received two 15rd'ers for my Ruger P95; i cannot chamber a SINGLE ROUND! the mag appears too tall so the slide jams up against the back of the cartridge at the top of the "mag." the slide closeth not, and the round gets shifted forward 2mm. thank god i practice with dummy rounds on new equipment. live rounds! egads think of the prospects! further, what if this were a rim-fire gun? amazon got a talking to about this 3rd party vendor not being vetted!

  • cool video and info.I wouldn't mind picking up one of these one days, but for now,I'd be happy with a 12 gauge pump and SKS.

  • Imma civilian sheepdog. I would like every one to know that here in South Dakota, (WITH a hunters safety course completion) you can take a Gun defense class at age 14.

    I have taken:

    Pistol courses

    Urban Chaos response

    Mountaineering

    Ranging ETC

Lots of fun, most cost me around $20 a day

  • Move to Texas. We have gun shows all year round and you can get some really good deals on guns. Oh, you can actually buy a Walther P22, which is banned in Cali.

  • Same diameter? .223 and 6.8spc?

    Hrmmmmm. Hrmmmmmmmmmmmm. Nope.

  • laquered rounds are supposed tobe pretty terrible in these

  • @zop2o all i use iv never had an issue i use brown bear

  • you know what them holes are for on the back of your trigger guard? hehehehe <----evil grin

  • wow, 20 minutes on a magazine, i want to see a gun!!

  • people taking away guns is retarded ts like saying basket ball should be banned and regulated because some kids met a gang leader and joined a gang while playing basketball... its a sport and recreation

  • I love your vids! They keep adding new guns to my "guns to buy" list and soon I think I might go broke!

  • I'm such a black sheep. A liberal gun owner who believes in gun control. rofl. Nice review.

  • @Rizrsniper If you believe in gun control, man, you need some therapy. (And some brains! )P.S.,If you BELIEVE in gun control, why do you own a gun??

  • @rugercat45 Because I enjoy target shooting. No need to insult my intelligence because of my opinion.

Also, I don't see why people who lawfully want to own a gun are against steps that would make it easier to weed out the lunatics. Instant Gratification addiction much?

  • @Rizrsniper Mn, WHO decides who the lunatics are?? The government? Psychiatrists?? What is a lunatic?? See what I mean? If you let "authorities" decide who can and cannot have a natural inborn right ALL of us are BORN with, one day YOU may be the lunatic. No one needs decide who"s fit to own the RIGHT to defend themself, if they do prove incapable of being safe, or kill people (indiscriminately, not self defense, that is ok) THEN,put them in jail, not take away OUR rights.NO infringement,NONE!

  • @rugercat45 they always try to out gun and out man the public....they try to brain wash people with school programs and t.v. shows to think that if you have a gun you are a outlaw up to no good and you should call 911 right away ....its b.s.!! ..when the new revolution comes we will take back the people's right's that million's of men woman and children have died for !!!!and the next bill of right will make it to wear no man will ever touch the right's of the AMERICAN PEOPLE AGAIN !! or die !!

  • @CREAMFILLEDANISH85 AMEN, man, I pray to God that day comes!

  • @CREAMFILLEDANISH85

    hell ya

  • @Rizrsniper I completely agree with you.

  • wow, i've got a mini-14, one of the earlier models, and the first time I shot it (50 yards with iron sights) i was all over the place, not too wild but I thought I was slipping. I'm glad after watching this video that it wasn't just me. I still love the mini-14, its really just fun to shoot even if it isn't the most accurate gun in the world.

  • Nice job as usual. I like your work.

  • Is this a good gun for killing zombies?

  • @JustUDIENOW mmmmm i would go with a full sized M14 for zombie killing.

  • @killervid will i bought a tactical mini 14 so i guess im fucked

  • @JustUDIENOW well it depends on the zombie type, if were talking living dead status then you are golden, the .223 will bounce around in the head and destroy their fragile brains(their skull might be thinner because they are dead). But a .308 would make their head explode in the back so for 28 days later zombies it would be better.

  • @killervid with that in mind how far can mini 14's fire

  • @JustUDIENOW i would say about 450 yards before you have to take bullet drop into account. the .308 can be 800 up to 1000(on an 18" barrel)

  • @killervid i think you mean 22. Because .223 is designed for penetration, and would blow the back of it's skull out.

  • @purplecurtisimo well sure but a .308 will do way more damage if it isnt a headshot. It is the difference between a running zombie and a crawling one.

  • I am looking at a used Mini and am trying to avoid the pre-2004 models. The ones at my preferred dealer look like the new one in this video (stainless). Did they make the old ones wih tthe stainless barrel also?? -Thx

  • does this have a 5.56 chamber or .223?

  • @dualberettas A .223 is a 5.56x45mm round.

  • @Wukaza not quite, you shouldn't shoot 5.56 through .223 chambers....

  • Does anyone know the exact MOA that the new ruger mini 14 has?

  • funny that you refer to Ramline as jamline, I cannot argue, I have done a lot less shooting in my life than you. I have also never heard you say anything that I can disagree with, so tou have oput me off of Ramline a bit because I really trust your evaluations.

  • Why was this recommended to me from listening to a 'Harmonic 33' song?!

  • @voltaicmusic why does it matter?

  • You don't want to lose you're normal capacity magazines, trust me, 5rds is no fun :(

And after they got you down to 5rds, they'll be trying to take the whole rifle from you

  • Nutnfancy, do you have a review on the Mini thirty? Would you recommend it versus a .223 chambered rifle?

  • thanks esau

  • You said boat tails dont shoot well but could it be the grain of bullet, If its a a 90's era you should of been shooting a 62grn or heavier for the amount of twist.

  • @akman545 wow

  • 6.8 is better than .223 right?

  • @merctp45 better yes and no depends what you want to do with the cartige

  • I have a few 30 round Ram Line mags and they SUCK

  • @alfamax

Very good point. Something to consider when thinking about home defense, where MIGHT that bullet go? You dont want to risk shooting into your kids room when the whole point was to protect them.

  • @hufsj If your in a house i recommend a shotgun with bird shot. Wont go through too many walls and will drop a man instantly within 25 feet.

  • Is there anyone with experience concerning the troy industries MCS rifle chassis for the mini 14. I know its expensive and im not asking about price, im curious if its a decent stock compared to others on the market? Nutn, if you've any info feel free to comment as well.

  • I think you're review would have been better without hte political bullshit. Throwing money at the NRA doesnt produce safer more effective guns.. it just keeps the prices on that overpriced ammo to keep inflating.

  • 1:55 "jam line" lol

  • These are so much less prone to jam than an AR15, and cleaning isnt something you have to do everytime you fire it. I lovem.

  • ahh man i love just burning rounds through these

  • thank you for the review. I'm working on purchasing my first firearm and particularly something for home defense. Pretty inexpensive weapon for what it appears to be capable of

  • For home defense I advice a Mossberg 500 series pump action shotgun, with a 18.5 inch barrel ($240)... This rifle, although nice and reliable is not ment for home defense... this is more for a shit hit the fan scenario or recreational... those .223 round would go thru walls and possibly endanger members of your family during a home invasion... on the other hand, buck shot is poweful, with a much wider spread, and is less "invasive" that these powerfull rounds... just saying... many blessings!

  • Comment removed

  • SMACK!

  • gotta say looks kinda like a m1 Garand

  • Mini 14.... "MINI" 14= a small m14.

    M14 = a updated m1 grand.

  • to nutnfancy..yeah the early mini bbls were kinda skinny but they were thicker than the M-16 A1 bbl that I used in Basic training back in the early 90s and you could shoot the hell out of an A1 even with the newer hotter 5.56mm rounds that we used in the A2. Personally I think heavy bbls are kinda gimmicky for the average assult rifle, in actual infantry combat ARs are used for suppressive fire most of the time and accuracy isnt at a premium & thinner bbls seem to cool down quicker.

  • nice heritage. but u have no blood relation to him cause your stepmom isnt your real mom

  • lol this is the first video i watch about the mini 14 and at 2:25 like that i thought i saw a bolt. i was like how the hell can a bolt action rifle be a good home defense gun.

  • stupid california only lets you get 10 round mags

  • cause of stupid gangsters

  • That's what the politicians want you to think. It's about control, power, and making the people dependent on the government.

  • @yolk1234 yep i hate livin in cali it sucks for buying anything that has to do with guns

  • @yolk1234 Buy 10 ten round magazines!!! then figure out how to strap them on!

  • @yolk1234 ya, it really sucks, I at one time had 30 and 40's. but they used to be badly made. I reccomend 20 round mags for the minis, but I havent had a chance o try any higher cap ones. Can't even have em here in Ca. Nutn makes a good point about heating the barrel up, but no gun can stand too much fire.

  • @yolk1234 5 round only in canada....

  • @yolk1234 stupid canada only lets you have 5 round magazines.... :P

  • @yolk1234

Thats one of the many reasons why I'm moving to AZ.

  • @yolk1234 stupid Canada only lets you get 5.

  • @yolk1234 Mass is the same way i believe, its retarded

  • @yolk1234 You gotta get outta there dude!

  • well could be worse and the way California is looks like it is fuck this thumb print ammo shit sucks for the good ol working American man@yolk1234

  • I just picked up my Mini 14 today ( wood stocked ranch rifle style) and it came with a factory 20 round magazine

  • Dude nutnfancy, you shot that first target on my exact birthday! cool.

  • sweet gun to shoot

  • how can you tell which barrel you have?

  • The closest thing I have to the Ruger Mini 14

is a Type 56 Carbine,semi-automatic intermediate chambered rifle.

  • My Keltek p3at isnt as reliable(sold and bought pf9 with extra 20 cash afterwards), my keltek pf9 isnt as reliable (still own) my Python .357 is believe it or not, not as reliable. The guns i own that are more reliable, a rossie single shot 20 guage, a winchester bolt .22 LR (some old thing i never saw before but i love it) and a remington 700 bolt action 30-06 (havent had a jam in it unles you count the 2 or 3 times i really had to jerk the bolt) way better than m16 var.s (i own 3 of them)

  • my 1911 .45 isnt as reliable, my mossberg 500 isnt as reliable, my remington 870 isnt as reliable, my remington 1100 (badass gun i would LOVE a review on this one btw, just because its so badass) it isnt as reliable. my off duty .38 special isnt as reliable, my .40 smith and wesson single action semi auto isnt as reliable, my RUSSIAN MADE AK47 is very reliable, but believe it or not, is still not as reliable. And its not your run of the mill romanian ak47 either. it is a genuine ak47 . mini14win

  • Gren moyo my friend, these are not garabage guns. Infact i challenge you to name a single gun other than the m1garand or m-14 that is better and more reliable than the mini14. And dont even think about coughing up some m4 out of your ass. ive got a bushmaster and a colt (accually 2 bushmasters and 1 colt) and they are just plain not as reliable as a sturdy ethical mini-14. Infact, even INCLUDING my pump shotguns the only guns more reliable i have are a bolt .22 bolt 30-06 and single shot 20g.

  • ihome34567 has a very valid point. I have a mini that i bought just for fun and it is now what i keep near my bed. 3 rounds(5.56) will stop someone yes. But there may be more than one. But at the same time keeping a hot 30 round mag is not a good idea. There is ALWAYS a chance that you will some how lose that weapon. You dont ever want to have more rounds than you would need. My advice would be keeping 8-10 rounds ready with a 2nd mag sound there be a need.(which there wont be)

  • i always used my mini 14 as a hog gun, and to think i was going to waist money on a AR LOL

  • this garbage gun...4:47 lol love ur Reviews don't stop makin them ^^

  • OMG ur the guy who went out in that snowey plae with ur friend and ur dog i luved those 5 videos dude u ROCK!!!

  • i got a 30 rounds mag in germany at egun, what´s the problem?

  • ihome34567 its not that u need a 20 round mag its if u want one u should go buy one if thats what u want , do u have to have running water in ur house ?? no u dont but it makes life alot better ,

  • OK, all I'm saying is that he is advertising this as a home defence gun. He is recomending a 20 round magazine for home defence. I believe you really don't need a 20 round magazine for home defence. 3 bullets will stop a man in his tracks. If you want a 20 round magazine, that's fine. I'm just saying it's not necessary for home defence. I would also like to ask that if you reply to my posts, type your reply in english, not this text lingo. I don't unsdrestand the run on sentences that you typed.

  • ihome34567 and thats why u dont understand why u want to have more power , than what u need , lol its ok when u get out in the real world things change lol

  • i no u no understand u post no. Please type like an eglish speaking person to show me your not some punk ass little 13 year old who just got a paintball gun and is looking at real ones that you'll never get.

  • Edit: Second sentence: :"Please type english", instead of "Please type eglish"

  • my take is he was talking about wrol situations for home defense

  • I'm assuming he's saying that you would use a 20 round magazines for a WROL situation where you would be running your Mini 14, tactical shooting, or if you're using it as an LEO.

  • Exactly. I think that 20 rounds is not unecessary, but home defence isn't where it belongs.

  • Nutn, it would be nice if you would either annotate the multi part videos with the next vid or put the link of part two in the description. I know your busy maybe have your sister do it if she has time...sometimes the second or third video doesn't show up in the bars beside the comments. Just a thought

  • I had a Colt Ar-15..It jammed a lot..

My Bushmaster and my Superior Arms have never jammed. I sold the Superior..But just saying the Colt wasn't that great...

  • is this the same weapon that the military uses "M 14" and the mini 14 just wondering since they look somewhat similar from my point of view

  • Nope.

  • No the Mini-14 (5.56mm) is a smaller version of the M-14 which is 7.62mm

  • I've been shooting my Mini 14 for over 10 years now. Carried it as a deputy sheriff. DON'T USE ANY MAG IN YOUR RIFLE OTHER THAN A FACTORY RUGER MAG. Everything else is junk.

  • Hey Nutnfancy have you ever considered taking donations from your loyal compatriots so that you can fund TNP? I think it would be a great thing so you can field test more stuff w/o it coming directly out of your pocket. You know like a TNP fund. Just and idea.

  • I like the sights onthe newer weapon too. The oder weapons sights look corny...

  • Anyone know where to get a rail assembly to put a tac light onto it?
