  • Here in Australia just about all methods of restraing assailants are illegal. The louts know this and take advantage of it.I've survived 2 home invasions, several assaults and 2 attempts on my life.We used to be aloud to defend ourselfs by any means practical.Including with firearms. This has gone. We're now prisoners in our own domociles. If it can happen here it can happen any where.

  • Look, the WHOLE point of the 2nd Amendment and private gun ownership is NOT hunting!!! THe whole purpose is to be a line of last defense against an out of control government that gets tyrannical. It is not only our RIGHT (in the USA) to own guns, but also our DUTY to throw off anyone and any government who would pervert our Constitution and our GOD GIVEN rights. If you ban guns, ONLY the criminals will have them!!! Criminals do NOT obey the laws and will NOT give up their guns.

  • Some people like airsoft guns so y the fuck does the government take it away, take some o them away but not sniper airsoft guns

  • Old but still very relevant, we have drive-by shootings in the news almost daily these days. Pretty awesome huh?

  • Libs want our guns and fools do nothing!

  • gun-crime in Australia has TRIPLED since the buyback scheme..

you know why? because the crims said "you know what, i think i'll keep mine"

  • This was in response to the Port Arthur Massacre where 35 people died where the gov introduced restrictions on self loading weapons like the one Adam Bryant used to kill those people. I see no problem here at all except for the worst journalism in history.

  • @theJoeshomshow Except no laws exist that can stop criminals...and Martin Bryant was unlicensed using an unregistered firearm. How on earth does taking the private property of the law-abiding gun owner prevent crime?

It makes no logical sense. You must believe that criminals exist who are willing and able to break serious laws such as those prohibiting murder, assault and robbery, yet who are not willing to break gun control laws.

  • @zhukie Get back to me when you actually say something that makes sense......It was clearly in response to mass shootings which haven't happened on any scale remotely like Bryant since. So to all you dumb gun nuts, suck on that one.

  • @theJoeshomshow

No I'm afraid you're failing to understand. That was an excuse by PM John Howard who cynically used the massacre and the resulting public grief to "bring about a fundemental change in our gun laws". He was already on the record previously as saying "I hate guns - they're evil." He was waiting for the opportunity

As for any mass shootings not happening since - no mass shootings had happened prior to Port Arthur, when the now-prohibited firearms were in free circulation Why not?

  • @zhukie ah yes there has mate....Julian Knight ring any bells? Oh ok cos guns aren't evil? no no of course not they're safe as. We should give them to kids. pffft at least get your facts right.

  • @theJoeshomshow Sorry you're still having trouble discerning the difference between the actions of criminals and those who are law-abiding firearms owners. Ever-increasing laws do not affect the actions of crims, only those who follow the. Criminals by sheer definition they do not follow any laws. Read my first reply again.

  • @zhukie Your argument couldn't hold water. You can be a law abiding citizen who registers their gun right up until you shoot that first person. Criminals rob homes, some homes have legally owned guns, those guns are stolen therefore criminals with guns. Therefore lets make the legal firearms less dangerous, cos who really needs an uzi?

  • @theJoeshomshow Of course you'd be a criminal if you shoot someone. Thing is, statistically according to the AIC it is the unlicensed with unregistered weapons who are committing crimes, in the region of more than 97%. Strange I know. The majority of illegal weapons are not sourced from legal owners - 10 years min jail+$20,000 fine for unsafe storage. You really know very little about our laws. I'm all for licensing, registration and a sensible measure of regulation. And no we cannot have Uzis.

  • @zhukie Yes thank you for supporting my argument, presuming your right with that source, that would mean the laws are doing their job. What again is your argument? You're against laws restricting assault weapons?

  • @theJoeshomshow My point is that the laws have in fact made little difference, the homicide rate was falling pre-96 and continues to now. Yes Bryant had the mental age of a 10yr old - but he wasn't licensed neither was Knight. Ramping up laws which only affect the law-abiding can have no possible effect on the lawless its not logical - Those wishing to *Increase* laws must believe that persons who are willing & able to break laws prohibiting murder/assault/robbery yet would not break gun laws.

  • @theJoeshomshow NZ had a massacre/tragedy of their own but did not ban outright that semi auto category for those competitve shooters who could go through the very onerous legislation necessary. Just as we used to have here - for specific competitions. Can't see why theoretically that could not be the case again - after all international service rifle competitors were not the people committing crimes. We only have bolt actions now but plenty of crims have semis, which came not from the lawful.

  • @theJoeshomshow

Oh and no need to get all emotive with the 'kids and guns' suggestion. I certainly did not say anything of the sort.

  • We Aussies will be screwed if an invasion happens...

  • @Hell6125 thats why we went to Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan

  • Ironically a law designed to disarm the Australian people resulted in the creation of what can only be described as the Australian Underground Army. Whilst a lot of guns were handed, many more were not. The government of the day were in error when they introduced the law before have a pre-licensing phase and comprehensive audit to determine what was out there, how many, and who had them. In addition to the weapons pre 79 are the W11 surplus weapons .. Lawrence LYons (infowarsnetau vid clip)

  • byron ... when the government takes guns away from it's good citizens then only criminals and the government will have guns. Don't trust the government to protect you. The government must be kept in check by the people. Like the saying goes, "When seconds count ... the police are only minutes away." No, you need to believe in the goodness of the majority of citizens and protect their right to keep and bear arms.

  • @crankabit - Just a thought;

Good lawful people don't kill people, Criminals with weapons do, and Countries that disarm their own to enable the Criminals, make… them... Criminals as well, right? This sounds like collusion to me. The US Gov with (NDAA - and - ATF "Fast and Furious") and the UN (Small Arms Global Treaty) are trying hard to remove the same freedom /rights from the citizens of many countries as we speak.

  • wtf man..... thats a kick in the balls. take my guns see what happens...

  • Wow! Let me quote indianajones' comment: "... yes, criminals do have some guns but 99% of the time they use them on each other, not the public and rarely on the police." OMG are you for real? Well then, let's take guns away from law-biding citizens and then hope that the criminals don't change their MO. Good people who own firearms for protection are not the problem sonny. Take guns away from good people and only crooks and nut jobs will have them. Get it?

  • This was implemented after a massacre at a cafe, where 35 people were killed.

The point of it was to get semi-automatic guns out of the hands of nut jobs and domestic violence situations. The data you see in this video is horse shit. And before you say it, yes, criminals do have some guns but about 99% of the time they use them on each other, not the public and rarely on the police.

If you live in a country where you think you need a gun to feel safe, then you obviously have a crime problem.

  • I'm surprised how so many Aussies actually let the government take their guns. In America, there would be a mass revolt.

  • "If you own a semi-automatic gun or shotgun you're likely a nut anyway." Wow! What are you some kind of a nut? There are evil people out there .... I intend to greet them with a bazooka if necessary. Law abiding citizens who own guns are not the problem. You need to get a grip on reality.

  • @crankabit bidswano aint ever going 2 get a grip as he/she lives in la la land with the statements that come spewing out without any logical reason apart from he/shes opinion that guns are bad. this land was kept safe by the gun which was used by conscripted ordinary aussies & volunteers so he/she could dribble crap. put the hard question on bigs & there is no answer except 4 more ill informed opinion & subject changing 2 avoid an answer

  • this is propaganda

australians never had a 'right' to own guns

and if u own a semi-automatic gun or shotgun you're likely to be a nut anyway

also those gun death stats are bullshit. gun deaths have fallen since 1996, not just as a percentage but also in absolute terms

  • @bigswano So you don't think that they had the right to own private property? Asshat...

  • @bigswano Why would owning a semi-automatic gun or shotgun make someone a nut? I am sincerely curious to hear your answer?

  • @SeeMeEat I'm sorry if you own these weapons and I insulted you. But as a peace loving non gun owning Australian citizen, I find it hard to comprehend what purpose anybody would have for such weapons that have to potential to inflict lethal force upon many people in a short space of time. Unless you plan on going on a killing rampage, why do u need these things? In my opinion the only people that need guns are the army, the police, farmers and security personnel.

  • @bigswano Thanks for your honest answer. I do own both kind of weapons. I am a law abiding citizen in America who also is peace loving. I own semi-autos and shotguns for two reasons, recreational shooting and home defense. I believe it is my responsibility to protect my family and not depend wholly on the local police authorities. It just always amazes me how people assume that shotguns and semi-autos are somehow inherently evil.

  • @bigswano a gun is just a tool. used the rite or wrong way. its the persons state of mind & intent. say all guns were banned & all guns vanished from oz, humans being what they are will still come up with a way of killing as many people as they could if thats what they intend. next will be the knife ban ( already started), then the 2x4 ban. where will it end? i know, lets ban humans as that is the root of the problem is it not & the rest is just an excuse 4 others 2 impose their will on others

  • @frasatat2 yeah a tool to kill people

  • @bigswano & a tool 2 survive. how convenient 2 ignore all else

  • @frasatat2 because people are threatening your life? how recently has someone tried to kill you. i'm guessing never

  • @bigswano was 10years ago when a gun was pointed at me & 3 years ago a knife. but thats not my point. i use a gun 2 hunt 2 get food, not shoot people . & your still stepping around the real issue of intent

  • Comment removed

  • @bigswano are u going 2 a address the issue of intent or remain silent & look foolish?

  • @bigswano yeah, didnt think u would reply. the 911terrorists or the bali bombers didnt use guns, the nazis killed millions with gas.if that twat in Europe used a bomb, no gun ,bigger bomb ,it all comes down 2 INTENT. there are thousands of guns out in the world but death by car far outstrips gun deaths by a long way. ban cars? where does it all stop? u dont like guns, thats your choice & your welcome 2 it, but dont say some1 who doesnt share your views is a nut. just makes u look stupid.

  • @frasatat2 a lot of people have intent to do bad things. But fewer people act on that intent unless they have firearms. And those that do act aren't nearly as dangerous. I have no problem with someone like a farmer who genuinely needs a firearm to have one. But keep in mind this was a ban on semi-auto weapons. Who needs a semi-automatic rifle or shotgun unless they plan on killing some people.

  • @bigswano so why say that the only people who should own guns are the army, cops, security n farmers if your only talking about semi auto n shot guns? semi auto guns help with the eradication of pest animals & helps with a humain kill if the first shot only wounds. the quicker the follow up, the more humain right? do i not have a right 2 hunt 4 food seeing im a law abiding person as well as controll the massive pest populations in this country?

  • @bigswano oh yeah, 2 say people who dont have firearms arent nearly as dangerous is not right either. look at the fools running the country letting assorted groups from overseas buy up every thing in site. banning live exports at the whim of a set up from animal rights & ruining countless peoples lives as just 2 examples

  • @frasatat2 i don't care about stupid political statements like that

  • @bigswano political statement?

  • @bigswano if u carnt c that the pollies are the biggest danger 2 this country as well as the biggest killers thru their actions & in-actions, god help us as u are the future of this country being only 23 & your interested in politics.

  • @frasatat2 i am not interested in that cynical view of our democracy. i am an idealist (perhaps as you say because i'm only 23)

  • If they ever come for my guns they better bring theirs because I will fight for my freedom! I will make the price they will have to pay to take my freedom very very high!

  • This was flagged as spam below by someone who doesn't believe in free speech, so I'm going to post it again:

"This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead." (Adolf Hitler: Chancellor's Speech, 1935)

And I'll add, those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

  • @VirtualR Ah... I was confused untill I read the adalf hitler part. How dare someone keep marking that as spam.

  • @VirtualR - The funny thing is I bet you actually believe this quote is true don't you. You gun nuts have fucking led for brains. You always use fake facts like this report and then add fake quotes like the one you have here.

The U.S. has the most guns of any first world nation and the most gun deaths of any first world nation. 35,000+ gun deaths each year. In the UK we have a total ban and 40-50 gun death per year. Those are the facts.

  • @WillShakespeare2007 Stay in the UK then, we wouldn't want such a bitter asshole like yourself in this country.

  • @VirtualR - Actually I owned two properties until very recently in Fort Myers Beach and fortunately most Americans are fantastic people. You just happen to be a gullible fucking idiot that believes some fake Hitler quote you found on the internet. But fortunately you do not get to decide who visits the U.S. or owns property there. The irony is I bet I have paid ten times the tax in the U.S. as you have you fucking half wit.

Oh and pointing out someone's wrong does not make a person "bitter".

  • Perhaps one day we can get Australian's gun rights. I am here in America, and am from the gun control state, California. But now I live in Free Arizona. Gun Control is saving Criminal's lives, And putting law abiding citizens in the dark. From what I've been informed, over 80 Million Americans own and use firearms. We stand with you, pro-gun Australia. Fight back against Gun Control at all costs. Should Australia need help in the battle AGAINST Gun Control, Give us in the USA A Ring.

  • so sad, but how about this- keep your guns, and when the cops come busting down your door looking for them fill them full of lead

  • i dont c why you dont just keep the side arm at the side of your beed its not like the cops just come in saying frezz cunt we want to c if your gun is in the case or not and i own a gun they havent ever done a check up on me and i have had the thing for 4years now

  • this is a big case of shit all the gun murdes would have been worse then now because of imgration maybe if we had kicked out all the wogs asians and blacks there would be no crime i mean look at aus before all the wogs and shit we had no crime maybe some one would take a car or a bike or food but thats it but now there is so much rape murder theft its all on the none whites just fuck them of they would buy guns because they think they are cool in there shitty arse gangs fucken faggets they are

  • WHY WAS REBECCA PETERS BORN IN AUSTRALIA WHYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • We have no right to defend ourselves as Australians. Even on home invasion, we have to wait until the invader harms us before we can even do a thing.

  • @Lasen7 Not in New South Wales.

  • @Lasen7 Actually use of reasonable force in self defense is perfectly fine in most states... NSW just has very clear laws stating the use of firearms, thanks to the Shooters and Fishers Party making it so. Of course none of this negates the strict storage requirements for firearms which of course work against their use for self defense, nor the fact that firearms cannot be owned/registered for self defense purposes. You need access to land, etc. for rifles and handguns require club membership.

  • @hedwerkn Recently a WA person shot 2 home invaders, he only got charged for having an unregistered firearm, not the shooting itself. Provided you're licensed, your firearms registered and properly stored and the circumstance justified their use, you should be fine. It's your call, but it is generally considered wise to aim to kill rather than wound, so the perpetrator's version of events doesn't cloud matters later on.

  • And I thought our(USA) leaders were stupid! There was a time I wanted to visit Australia, but...NO MORE! I would not feel safe there! No difference in your leaders than in Hitlers Germany!

  • @40172 I'm from Australia and I get more and more disenchanted as time goes on with the way things are here. This is basically a socialist dictatorship where you have no rights other than what the Government says you have. I grew up in a time of personal freedom and choice (I'm 51 now) and this has slowly been eroded over the years by the nanny state mentality of the various politicians of ALL ilk. Sad as I look at my kids and realise they will miss out on so much unless things change here.

  • we still cant even defend ourselves is just messed up
